    Catfish plate

Food was amazing here! Ordered the catfish plate and added seasoning salt. Dine in area has the old diner feel.

This was the inside of the fries not all the fries were like this, but quite a few.

My husband and I decided to try Jimmy's hotdogs. First walked in we were greeted with a smile. Customer service was good. We ordered hotdog all the way, and we ordered a cheeseburger with fries Cheeseburger was average. It didn't really stand out to me, but it wasn't terrible. Either the french fries were OK but some of them on the inside looked gray was also I think if they worked on the chili and made it a little bit better that would possibly make the hotdog stand out more on both of them go with a bun maybe a potato bun and maybe toasted a little bit on the grill then I would say that the food would live up to its name but as it stands right now, I thought everything was just mediocre not great, but not bad .

This was my first time eating here, at recommendation of my boyfriend who had been and knew that they have good food. We had a good experience. The lady taking our order wasn't overly friendly but she also was not rude (fine with me) .. the wait time for our food was not long - when we got the food everything was hot and fresh, literally just cooked. My catfish was very good and so were my boyfriend's hot wings. I've seen other reviews knocking this place.. I think that these people are expecting this to be more than what it is.. a simple neighborhood grill /cookout. Not a place you ask for a "medium burger" lol...... this isn't fine dining. If that's what you're expecting - wrong spot. The restaurant itself was not dirty. No flies etc; the only thing that bothered me was it was kinda warm inside, I'd go back

Hot dogs tasted great! Catfish was good. Onion rings and sides were good, service was fast. Atmosphere is a little old and the place could definitely use some renovations but other than that, great hot dogs!

I will admit, it's pretty tough to give anyone 1 star. At the same time this has to be the worst child dog ever. The dog was void of taste...either all of the salt was boiled out of it or this is a woefully miserable and tasteless brand of protein. Condiments nor chili could save it. I'm sure I grimaced with each bite but powered through, anyway. The chili was equally lifeless. Here's my suggestion, stay far away from this place unless you have absolutely no alternative- I know I will.

We frequently Google "best ____" (food item). Then we take a road trip and rate the food on a 1-10 scale. This took us to Durham Sunday for hotdogs. We went to Jimmy's Famous Hotdogs on Hwy 55. We ordered the Nathan's hotdog all the way =9, chicken wings =6, onion rings =10, crinkle fries =5 and fried catfish =15! We like to sample a lot when we go somewhere new and out of the way. They have FANTASTIC catfish! How weird is that? We only ate one filet and brought the rest home for catfish Po Boys. I make a mean tarter sauce. We got it to go then ate off the tailgate in a shopping center because it was nice and sunny. We were nearly attacked by a flock of seagulls. SEAGULLS!! Luckily some woman started feeding them McDonalds fries so they left us alone. Anyway, it was a nice drive and good food. If you go, don't be discouraged by 3 stars because people complained about the wait. What they don't tell you is they fix it fresh so the delay is worth it. Health rating is 96. Since we were fighting of birds, I only took a picture of the catfish at home. UPDATE FOR ONION RINGS: I should've described them. They seemed to have both beer batter and just enough Panko to add more crunch. I don't like Panko only because they hurt the roof of my mouth. I think you would get onion in every bite but I fold and cram it in, in one mouthful.

My first visit here and the food did not disappoint. Go "all the way" with Jimmy's Famous Hot Dogs. I got the combo: 2 dogs, drink and fries for under $10. It's counter service so someone will call out your number. Let's get back to the food. all the way gets you a dog with a chili sauce with a great taste and the right consistency. Over some Cole slaw that added a nice touch of crunch on the dog, throw on some mustard and onions and you can savor one of the best hot dog joints in the Dominion State. The only disappointment was the woman behind the counter who was loud, obnoxious, and gave the place a ruff vibe. 2 stars off for her bringing down the place.

Super great beef hotdogs and amazing chili. Definitely returning! The service was good and the atmosphere is homey

    Catfish sandwich

I'll keep this short and simple. First time visiting and I wasn't impressed . . My girlfriend ordered the hotdog/hamburger combo and I ordered the catfish sandwich combo. All three items had ZERO FLAVOR!!!!! I'm so confused how you fail to season the catfish as well as the batter?! I even added a tremendous amount of hot sauce to help & NO! Also the fries were super light in color and bland

For the main, I ordered the standard burger despite several limited-edition options being available (ask about the Hamilton theme!). It was cooked precisely to my specified medium, with a flavorful patty and nice structural integrity throughout. The tater tots were basically as good as they come. We paired the meal with IPAs - Dancing with the Bulls and Bull in a Bottle Shop - both of which held up well against the richness of the food and worked particularly well with the burger. I finished the meal off with the amaretto which provided a balanced finish and was reminiscent of my usual espresso martini without being overly boozy or heavy. Service was friendly and professional as always, and the atmosphere remains a strong point: upscale casual without feeling forced. One of my favorite spots in downtown Durham for so many reasons, and one I'll definitely continue to return to.

I think there's a sports ball thing going on somewhere, too. One person ahead of me and I gave the nice lady my order. The tacos came out pretty quickly, followed by the beer, cool and frothy from the tap. As I've mentioned before, there is a nice adult contemporary soundtrack that is neither background or overpowering. It just hits, and you can chat over it if you want. Or sing along. After a nice bike ride, I stopped in and ordered their three shrimp tacos. I've had them before, but they seemed even more amazing than past visits. Were the shrimp larger? Were there more of them? (4 per taco seems about right!) It was such a lot of food (added to the hazy IPA) that I had to take the last one to go. It may last the night. Or it may be breakfast. I think I've had their burger once. I'm such a sucker for grilled shrimp! Hehe. They have sides and apps as well, but I can't even finish the main!

Definitely nothing to complain about tonight. This place is great. And I love their celebration of minds of all kinds.

I really enjoy Detroit style pizza and it's not something you see a lot of around NC so that's nice. They also have a very good Gluten Free option which is nearly the same as the traditional crust - and if you ask they can mock up the cheesy sticks using the GF crust as well. The service is always super friendly at any location I've been to. Sweet with a little bit of tang and you can definitely taste the seasoning. The crust has the right thickness the right crunch and the right give. The crust could stand to have a little more flavor but overall it was a solid crust. My issue with the food was for $25 on a 8x10 pizza, there should be enough cheese in the mix to cover more than 60% of the pizza. They have a "signature cheese blend" but then 40% of the pizza doesn't get any of it. A bit disappointing. Which gives the value a 2/5 at best. In addition to these two factors I was asked my name for the order when I arrived. The young lady walked off and then I spotted her on her phone in the corner, followed by folding pizza boxes in a different corner. Eventually a gentleman approached with the same question. Wouldn't you know it, my order was sitting right there next to the host stand. Not impressive. The ambiance is a bit pretentious for a place serving pizza which I found to be pretty greasy. The ambiance definitely matches the price so I guess that's what they are going for. The only lot for parking is paid but I suppose that may be the norm for "downtown" Durham. The flavor again was very good, but the value and the competency of the staff are a miss. As a frequent traveler I think I'd explore the other options next time rather than return.
