Sampler: 2 Meats, 2 Sides, Texas Toast. Pulled Pork, Brisket, Collard Greens.
Florence C.

Brisket before business. This fast-casual BBQ spot offers meals of all sizes. Right after landing at RDU and grabbing a rental car, my coworker and I headed straight to this spot for lunch. Priorities! I got the 'Sampler: 2 Meats, 2 Sides, Texas Toast' with my choices of 18-Hour Brisket (smoky, tender, yummy) and Pulled Pork (bland without sauce). Thankfully, the vinegar-based Swine Wine sauce from the sauce bar saved the day. The Cornbread was okay and too smooth for me (I like crumbs and crustiness), but the Collard Greens were delicious! NOTES/TIPS: **Super friendly, patient, helpful, fast service. **Huge space, lots of tables. Easy parking in their own lot. **The sauce bar (~8 sauces) deserves a medal. Swine Wine carried this mission.

Pulled Chicken ??

Ordered a combo meal with 2 meats and 2 sides. For $20 I was a little taken aback by how small it was? I love bbq and order my fair share but have not seen portions this small from anywhere else. The "smoked" turkey wasn't smoky at all. The pulled chicken was mixed with mayo? That's a first... potato salad is decent and same with cole slaw. Certainly nothing to write home about! Not impressed and a tad annoyed, but hey, at least I know where not to head back to!

The service was fast and kind! The meat had so much flavor in each type. The fries came out hot and crunchy! Every bite was delicious. Im glad I dropped in between doctor visits!

City Barbecue is one of my go-to places. It's always good, always reliable, and I love their sweet city bbq sauce! I usually always order to-go, but this restaurant is clean and has a good amount of seating. I love their baked beans and their pulled pork! Their ribs are pretty good too. My absolute favorite is the corn pudding - I highly recommend. The staff is also very nice here.

LoLo's Pulled Pork, 3-Cheese Baked Mac

Before I moved to North Carolina, you would never catch me with coleslaw on my plate, but that all changed the first time I tried Lolo's pulled pork sandwich. Something about the mix of the swine wine sauce and the creamy yet crunchy slaw just makes for the absolute perfect combo and now, more than 8 years later, I'm a slaw-on-my-pulled-pork-sandwich convert! Truly, all thanks to this sandwich. And over all these years, it's remained consistently delicious. Service here is usually pretty good! Staff is friendly when you order and pickup at the counter. That's all you'll really interact with them. Pre-COVID times, there were pickles and onions for your sandwiches and lemon wedges for your tea set out in a condiment bar by the self-service sauce and drink stations--that hasn't come back. Now things sit empty and collect random straw wrappers and lids because customers can't be bothered to put their trash in the correct bins and as is the case in most food service locations, they're too understaffed to have people maintaining the dining area. It's off-putting when the receptacles for dirty dishes are overflowing during busy rushes. So I'm taking off a star for ambiance only because things don't feel as clean as they could be. Again, with staffing issues, it still feels like they're doing the best they can and prioritizing getting quality food to you fast.

You know a BBQ place is excellent if they 1) sell meat by the pound and 2) have paper towel rolls at the tables instead of napkins. Check those boxes for City Barbeque. Great brisket, juicy chicken, ribs were perfect with a great pull, seasonal cucumber and onion side was tasty and not sweet, green beans and bacon side definitely had a subtle bacon flavor and the beans were not overcooked and the Hoppyum IPA was hopyummy. Everyone behind the counter was really friendly and they brought out a couple of slower items directly to my table. I will definitely be back. Remember to tip well. They all work hard there.

I loved my experience in this bbq place! The menu offers quite a few delicious and affordable options. I ordered the chicken sandwich with cole slaw and the banana pudding for dessert. Oh yeah! It was good. This City Barbeque is located in a centrally located space with its own free parking lot. Overall, good stuff!

This is the way that BBQ should hit!!…read more We stopped in the "Shack" while visiting Durham. Having been huge fans of North Carolina style BBQ, we were not disappointed. My wife and daughter enjoyed the Pork Plate. By for me, I went with the two meat combo with Pulled pork and brisket. The pulled pork was spot on. It was perfectly smoked and almost melted in my mouth. With a touch of spicy vinegar sauce, I was gone to Carolina in my mind for the rest of the day. The brisket might have been some of the best I've ever had. It had a nice fat layer and was also "melt in your mouth" and juicy. The brisket didn't need any sauce at all. It was that good. The hushpuppies were the star at the table. My family considers themselves to be connoisseurs of hush puppies, and these were ranked in the top five. A respectable ranking from such a discriminating hushpuppy panel. The sides we sampled included collard greens, mac and cheese and BBQ beans. The collards and Mac and cheese were out of this world. I should have ordered a double serving of the collards. However, the beans were a huge disappointment. They were more like a bowl of sub-par chili than BBQ beans. If we return, they will not be selected. A great BBQ spot when you are in Durham. Highly recommend you stop by, if only to taste the brisket!

The hush puppies were crispy on the outside and perfectly fluffy on the inside. The collard greens were well-seasoned and the mac and cheese was solid too. There is plenty of parking on the backside of the building, paid parking out front, and be careful not to park in the apartment spaces on the side...they sounded pretty serious about towing. I had made a reservation but it was probably unnecessary as it was pretty empty when we arrived (it was about 5pm on a Saturday.) The waitress brought a bottle of water to the table and took our drink order. And I know that this place is literally call it's a Southern thing but can I mention how much I dislike drinking out of mason jars? I ordered the chicken n biscuits, my husband got the country hamburger steak plate, my BiL got wings, and my SiL got the crabcakes. We also orders charred jalapeno & sweet corn hushpuppies and frickles as an appetizer. I was VERY excited about my food. Y'all...the only thing that impressed me were the Frickles. Everything else was distinctly underwhelming. I also ordered Blackberry Betta Have My Money which was not that great. My SiL ordered a espresso martini that they said didn't come from a mix but she said it tasted like it was. The bathrooms were very clean. The decor and the vibe were great. Cute even. I really enjoyed that part of it. After dropping off our food, we never saw our waitress again unless we flagged her down for drink refills. It was especially frustrating since there was automatic gratuity added. And since the place wasn't that busy, it felt like she didn't feel the need to earn her automatic tip. Overall I was disappointed in my birthday dinner. I won't be coming back here.
