DO NOT TAKE YOUR KIDS HERE!!! PLEASE READ!! I took my 19 month old boy to two appointments with Dr. Melanie Hecker. When I found this practice I asked the front desk if they take kids, and they said yes. Their website also states they take kids. On both appointments Dr. Melanie Hecker entered the room with an extremely arrogant attitude and never even touched my boy to see his skin conditions. She didn't approach him in a nice, kind, empathic way, or however you should approach a baby, or a little kid!!! My boy was a little scared (as all babies and kids are of doctors in general), and he cried, and she was clearly annoyed by this. She didn't have a good approach for a doctor to see a little kid. And if this is the case, then why do you say you take kids in your practice!?? I don't even think this is a way to treat adults!! She lacks empathy, kindness, respect, and understanding of patients needs! On the second appointment she diagnosed my boy with vitiligo, without even touching him, and didn't even explained what this condition means, and just proceeded to give my husband a brochure with information and said "you can read about it here". Yes, my boy was crying in that moment, but she could have just told me to go out into another room to explain this. Appointments are rushed, both times they made us wait 1 hour to be seen, and it was a HORRIBLE experience. Last but not least, on the second appointment, when she was done with what she may believe was a successful approach, she proceeded to say to me "do you sleep with him?" (Referring to my boy), so I said "umm yes part of the night", and she responded "ohhh that's why!!". WHAT THE HELL!??? Why is this even relevant!? Do not go here! Not even adults!! 6/19/2023 I am not the only one rating only one star for that rude customer service dermatologist. For one week, neither one answered the phone or returned the calls. Then today by miracle I got some one picking up the phone. The rude person could not tell me when the first appointment was available. She wanted to get the referral first. I needed to know if I could wait or not. I called hundred times and they blocked my phone #. I decided to go somewhere else where I could be treated humanly with respect. Shady and unethical doctor. Sent my 19 year old son in by himself when I was out of town on business for a small patch of dry skin. They ran up an $850 bill running tests including charging $275 to take a flake of skin. Just horrible taking advantage of a young man like this. Called twice and could not talk to someone to schedule an appointment. Decided to drive there and walk in to schedule but they had a the parking lot blocked off and no vehicles parked. Tried door anyways. Nobody answered locked door after I knocked and rang bell. It was 3:30 on a Wednesday. Signs on door said wear a mask but no other info about not being open. Sign on mailbox said to put mail in slot since the mailbox was missing. I will not be back. Will definitely drive out of my way to find another derm. read more

Let me advise who ever is reading this and plans to visit this group. These people are crooks. My husband has been going to them for years. We changed insurance and told them. They accepted to take him in for a procedure and then sent him a massive bill. They failed to advise my husband they do not take our new insurance just so they can collect money. At a biopsy done there after not receiving a call back for almost 10 days when I called the office they told me typically it's 3 weeks on a biopsy. My experience (in the Tamerac office) was pretty terrible. I have a terrible intensely itchy persistant rash on my back, shoulders, buttocks and in my hair. Went into figure out what the heck it is. Address on the website is incorrect. Apparently, they cannot fingure out how to change it. So I went to the wrong address, knocked on the door - no answer, no note, but a tenant up the walkway told me the office has been empty for ages. When I finally got to the right place, the reception said "oh yeah, that happens a lot (!!!) I suggested they CALL Google https://support.google.com/business/topic/4596687?hl=en&ref_topic=6377335 Then, got what I knew was an incorrect diagnosis, which it was. She did a biopsy and after nearly 3 weeks FINALLY got a copy of it. It reported that I Keratosis, and is pre-cancerous. Unfortunately Keratosis develops where you have been excessly exposed to sunlight, and again, this rash is pretty much everywhere on my body that rarely or NEVER sees the light of day. Nor does it resemple the picture of this condition whatsoever. Overall, a very frustrating and disappointing encounter. Maybe this place is great for cosmetic treats (that is what ALL the literature in the office refers to) but not for serious dematologic treatment. I don't need any fillers. Oops. read more

Dr. Hecker and her staff are nice people... but I rather dread coming here. Back in 2006, I asked her for a medicine I used to take and really liked. She wouldn't give it to me and instead wanted me to use a $100 foam wash. I told her I wouldn't fill a $100 prescription and just wanted the $20 medicine I had asked for. She told me she didn't like that medicine and then told me I should get a facial by one of her aestheticians... who in turn tried to sell me some really expensive face washes. I refused all of them (and the facial) and stopped going to her (never did get that medicine I liked), but had to go back this week because of an allergic reaction. Parking is a problem here - there are 3 spots available that aren't handicapped. You can't park on the grass next to her office because you'll get ticketed by BSO. So you're forced to park next door in the parking lot of the office building across the street. Brace yourself for an interminable wait. My mother and I have both had appointments here before where we've waited over 2 hours past our scheduled times to see her. I thought this was just because I had appointments around midday or the afternoon, so this time I made sure to make an early morning appointment for 9 am. Apparently that doesn't make a difference: this latest wait was an hour and twenty minutes. The waiting room is entirely too small for the amount of people that inevitably are crammed in it, which leads to some people being forced to stand while they fill out their forms. It makes you wonder why they schedule that many people when obviously it's a consistent problem they have. I was thankful for my BlackBerry so I could at least play brickbreaker to pass the time. Also, keep in mind they keep a credit card on file so they can charge you for any costs your insurance company doesn't want to pay. You won't get a bill from them, but you'll see their name pop up on your credit card statement. I understand why they do it, but it makes me uncomfortable to know they have my credit card number on file. If I had much of a choice, I'd go elsewhere... but unfortunately there are just not many dermatologists in my area. The ones that are either won't take new patients or won't see you for an emergency appointment. When I called about my allergic reaction, Dr. Hecker's office gave me an appointment the very next day. So I guess I'll stick with them for lack of a better alternative. read more

Went in for my appointment today and because I did not want to leave a credit card on file they would not allow me to continue with my appointment. I was paying my co-pay as needed not even seeing the doctor to see any other procedures would be necessary. None of my other doctors have EVER required a credit card number to be on file. Best experience by far! I found this gem while doing a google search for Dermatologist open on Saturdays and this one came up! Upon arrival we were greeted by Jusie who handled our paperwork and all of our questions with a smile. The wait was short and before you know it we were being called in by Giselle, we went into the room told her our concerns and she came back with the Physicians Assistant Tori. Together they took their time to answer all of questions, offer advice and explain what is to be expected with the medication. I've been to other dermatologist who try and sell or up sell you products that have nothing to do with the reason of your visit. Not here! The first visit was done by the doctor's assistant. She took 3 biopsies of skin. Today, three weeks later, I did not see the doctor as promised. When I asked, a nurse said Oh she is doing a cosmetic procedure. Although the staff is personable, I was told was getting my three blasts of the nitrogen which I did. At least six times in five minutes that I was in room several nurses came in room to ask for nitrogen etc etc or had a question. I felt very rushed indeed. Avoid this place if you are looking to get a facial peel as they have no clue. I paid $125.00 for the service which was less than 5 minutes complete. I could not tell that I received a peel the aesthetician had no knowledge of what she was doing there were no medical professionals around. I went millennium day spa where I received a VI peel the next week which worth every dollar amount I paid . As to the peel I had at Hecker derm. the aesthetician coul not tell me what kind of peel it was only that it was a specially made. IT WAS USELESS. DO NOT GO THERE FOR FACIAL PEELS. read more

First of all, I was not impressed with my first visit with this office at all. I felt pressured to buy cosmetic services instead of medical treatment. As I was leaving I did not commit to a second appointment as I wasn't impressed. I am now receiving statements for a $25 no-show fee for a second appointment I never made. Not only that, but they refused to take off the $25 fee and say that someone did verify the appointment over phone which I did not as it only comes to my personal cell phone which only I have access to. Not only that, I was out of town the whole month of March. The ladies at the office refused to let me talk to a manager or doctor in charge nor do they want to take the fee off of my account. In my teen years I had horrible problems with acne and eventually went on Accutane to heal my skin. It worked fabulously. Fast forward to me now in my late twenties and I have normal skin with normal breakouts but it's as if my skin is figuring out what it is. Is it oily? Sometimes. Dry? Sometimes. I've gone to a few other dermatologists during my twenties but no one could really solve my skin issues. Either they would treat my dry skin and cause me to break out or treat my oily skin and make my dry skin worse. A friend recommended Hecker Dermatology to me and they've done a fabulous job of getting me on a regimen to keep my skin perfectly clear. By Melanie's prescription, I get a Hydrafacial every here and there to rejuvenate my skin and use some of their HeckerDerm products. This combo has been completely groundbreaking for my skin. I absolutely love everything about Melanie and her team and believe they've found a patient for life. read more

I was also nervous about a "mole" on my back ... and I had been putting off getting it looked at. Same day visit it was removed and all tests came back negative. I arrived for my appointment, and had all paperwork completed in advance. Then I waited for two hours to be seen. The topic in the waiting room was about how long the wait was. But, I waited patiently as I needed help. The staff was kind and polite. I finally saw Dr. Melanie Hecker. I was not impressed. Here are my opinions and observations...... She was curt with me. She interrupted frequently. She talked down to me. She did not listen carefully, nor did she seem to care. Her observations made zero logical sense to me, and she was just plain rude. I should have walked out on her in the middle of the appointment. But I chose politeness instead. She didn't deserve it. I have to say that she was among the worst doctors I have ever seen, from an interpersonal skill standpoint. I won't be back. The visit was a waste of time. Horrible bed side manner. The doctor we saw, 2/16/19 was distracted, condescending and rude. I brought my frail 92 year old mother in law, who suffers from dementia, in for a growth on her hip. Apparently there was a typo and they thought she was there for her lip. There was nothing on her but the doctor wanted to freeze a spot on her lip and her chest. I said I wanted to call her caretaker and discus it with her. She snapped that SHE was the doctor! She was the provider and SHE decided what my MIL needed. I explained that she did not know my MIL for more than 5 minutes and the caretaker was with her every day for the last year. Her body language became agitated, she said her caretaker was ONLY a nurse and SHE was a DOCTOR. So enough, we left. We will never go back and I urge you to keep looking for quality skin care elsewhere. read more

BEWARE.... This office is very unorganized. They are quick to take your money, but when you have a billing issue or question they are nowhere around. They never return your calls, and then when you finally do get to talk to someone, they tell you that they don't keep the billing record in their office, and you need to talk with their billing people... I would give no stars. This woman Melanie Hecker is a liar and awful. I called to get an appt for a cosmetic procedure and was told $100 consultation fee but if I did service it would be applied toward the service fee. Well that did not happen. When I got to the office was told by that I was a first time patient and would be a $100 and not applied to the service. I left as I was not going to just give her $100 extra The woman is a liar and just out for your money. Was probably a sign from God to not let this woman touch me. To begin, parking lot is too small. In 2016, for my morning appointment, I made it on time. Dr. Melanie Hecker was not even in the building. I spoke with the front desk and they did not seem to care that the office runs late and I had to wait longer than an hour. Dr. Melanie Hecker misdiagnosed the two quarter-size pink marks on my face as "eczema", and I was prescribed a medication cream; and I had no improvement. Dr. Melanie Hecker should have recognized skin cancer, or at the minimum, test for possible skin cancer. Instead, she gave me a 6 month check-up appointment. I did cancel that appointment later on. I felt all she wanted was money and for me to buy her shampoo for my red and itchy scalp. I did not purchase her product. At my age as a senior and with my insurance I felt she just did not care about me. In 2017, I went to another doctor of dermatology office and was tested by a biopsy for my face that later the result was positive for basil cell carcinoma! I have gone to another doctor of dermatology for surgery on the two spots on my face, one required 7 stitches and one 10 stitches. Also, in 2017, I was prescribed a medicated shampoo, for my scalp, and it did improve the areas and it helped. No one tried to sell me their personal products. I thank God I had a proper and accurate diagnosis for this year. Yes, I regret going to Dr. Melanie Hecker for my dermatology needs. I, therefore, will never recommend Dr. Melanie Hecker to anyone. In the future, I hope no one else ever has to suffer with a misdiagnosis from Dr. Melanie Hecker (or anyone else at the Hecker Dermatology Group). We all need a proper and accurate diagnosis when it comes to any kind cancer. read more

My first review ever. I had the unfortunate pleasure of going to Hecker Dermatology twice. Once in 2015 and 2020 for the same case. It is close to my house and convenient and my case seems to be simple enough. Both times, I went there, I felt extremely uncomfortable that they make you sign a blank credit card form so they can charge for any unpaid bills. Meaning if the insurance rejects the claim, they will automatically charge your card. I have never seen that with any doctor. I reluctantly agreed. Second, they tell you that the prescription is going to be sent to the pharmacy and you call the pharmacy for two days and there isn't anything ordered from the doctor. You called the doctor's office and they finally call you back to let you know you need to buy the medication from them. No apologies from them of course. I was already so upset that I went and bought hydrocortisone with Aloe from them as they made me believe over the phone that the Hydrocortisone with Aloe with was only available through them as a special formula. I did some quick research over this weekend as I was puzzled and felt bamboozled by them and found out that Hydrocortisone 1% with Aloe is available for $4 at the Walgreens. They sold me their formula for $26. My condition hasn't improved and they had already scheduled another visit as a follow up, but as finish writing this review, I am reaching out for the phone to cancel it.
