I like this place and have reviewed it in the past, new owners that's great maybe some upgrades in time. We went last week and had breakfast "the western omlet and hashbrowns" went a week later and the same dish was not fit to eat, the hashbrowns tasted like they were green and way under cooked with a bunch of grease soaked into them, the omlet had a fermented taste like something was bad in the omlet. Our favorite breakfast spot. They offer a little bit of everything. Always friendly wait staff. We love to chew the fat over at McClains. My favorite seat is at the bar top. One of the best places on the lake. They've stayed a small town restaurant with the recipes and menu for as long as I've lived here.

Great first impression. Walked in as they were closing. Went to leave but they encouraged us to come on in and have a seat. We were tired and hungry. We took the waitresses recommendation and had a club sandwich and homemade chips. The chips are the best I have ever had!! I've had alot of different home style chips over the last 60+ years from many different cities, towns and states but none compare. I am moving to that area and will post reviews as I try the different meals. Their customer service exceeded our expectations. read more

We hadn't been to McClain's in many years, but going down to the country to visit Mom, we thought we'd grab lunch. I ordered the hamburger steak which was pretty good, and the fries were good too. The salad that came with it was real weak, only lettuce and shredded carrot with dressing. No tomato, no crouton. They did have crackers. They were an off brand and a bit on the stale side. Mom ordered the vegetable plate, and enjoyed hers, especially the pinto beans. The cornbread and rolls were good too. My wife ordered the special last Saturday which was chicken and dumplings. She said they were just okay. Also, the portion size seemed a bit small, but she was satisfied. We had gotten a had order of the onion rings to share, and they were just okay. The food at McClain's deserves a two, maybe two and a half stars, but our server Carol earned them the higher rating. Carol is very nice and friendly, as well as quick. Kudos to her. read more

Had lunch on a Friday. The 2 things I wanted, they were out of, BBQ chicken & smothered pork chops. Strike one... ordered beef tips over rice, mashed potatoes, Mac & cheese & corn casserole. The beef tips seemed canned & there was very little rice. No gravy on the potatoes & the corn casserole was gross. Strike 2... Made from cheap canned corn & tasted like institutional food. Menu said rolls & cornbread but I got only one rock hard,small roll. Strike 3... Came with banana pudding for dessert. Not real banana pudding, just a tiny bowl half filled with instant pudding. The whole meal tasted like it should be served in Huntsville. It was slapped on my plate as if that's where I was dining. No drink refills. I'm not sure I'm not being overly generous with a 2 star rating. I won't be done dining there again. read more

They were somewhat busy when I visited, but there was still a place to sit in the non-smoking section, even though the entrance, exit, and restrooms are through the smoking section. I'd probably give them another star if they did away with the smoking section completely, making the entire facility non-smoking. There were plenty of parking spaces, and the restrooms were well-maintained. They were either one-seaters or they had 2 stalls, but for some reason I don't remember much about them. They serve breakfast all day, and they have several vegetarian-friendly options. I had a veggie omelette, with hash browns & a side-order of biscuits & gravy. Although for dinner, they don't have biscuits, but they do have delicious dinner rolls. I needed to ask for extra hot sauce (salsa) for my omelette & hash browns. They also have some cocktails & adult beverages. I had a cocktail called the "Malibu Barbie", which was good enough that I would get it again, but I would still like to try some other cocktails. Let me say to the poster that said she was called a Fat Ass, we all know that never happened. Been coming here for 30 years and the ladies that work here are the kindest sweetest people you would ever want to meet. Food wise, everything is great! Best chicken fried steak around the lake. Unbelievable homemade cooking with an inexpensive daily lunch special. There is a reason they have been open for 40+ years. Great food and great service! read more

Excellent service and food. My family has been eating here for over 4 decades and love the homestyle cooking. The servers are always friendly and welcoming to new comers. Only problem is the restrooms have not been updated since opening. A must when visiting cedar creek lake!! read more

Great place, will be back. The wait was worth it, waitress nice and attentive but not overly pushing. They were packed.

This morning we received the bill and WOW what an increase. 25% increase on what we normally pay. The new owners have been slowly increasing their breakfast proce, I could see an increase if they had changed the menu, but when you've been coming here for 13 years at breakfast, you notice the price change. We are not going to support this , so we will find other options. read more

Been going to McClains for over 30 years. Went there Saturday for lunch. What happened to all the good country food? No veggie plate offered. Mostly sandwiches and burgers. Very disappointed !!! 2 sandwiches with fries and 1 drink was $16. Never again !!!! read more

I've been coming here for 3 years now, and it's always good. Good lunch specials, and good staff. I highly recommend the SAS. For the price it's a hefty breakfast. *UPDATE* Something has changed in the last year or so. The menu seems different, and the pricing has definitely gone up. And i just had to pay the same price for a tiny piece of cheesecake, as I did for my cheeseburger and fries. It seems as if the owner is trying to cut corners, and overcharge customers, to make up for the lack of business. This place used to always be busy. Now, not so much. read more

Their lunch specials are great you get the entree, 3 sides and dessert. Friday night prime rib is huge.

If you are looking for fancy, this is not it. If you want great food and great service, this place is for you. Priced right...I loved it.

One of the best places to go for breakfast anyday. Just try and come in after 8am if you are a non smoker as they still have a strong smoking section. In terms of service speed they are quite fast for such a usually busy location, and the food is always great. read more

Wowawoowaa. LOVE this place! When we drive out to the lake my Dad kept suggesting we go have breakfast at McClain's. Finally showed up around Brunch time. I had the daily special: country style ribs, whip potatoes, spinach casserole, pinto beans, yeast rolls and chocolate pudding for dessert. ALL for five bucks! And the food was simply fantastic. The service was excellent, the place was clean and the prices can't be beat. read more

I'd give it a 3 or 4 except for the horrifically bad service. I got greeted with a loud "Hey fat a$$!" by the cashier. The manager was completely unresponsive. Breakfast is good, the specials are a good value, and the rest is decent. read more

If you are looking for great home cookin', McClain's is it in the Cedar Creek area. Great chicken fried steak! Do not let the exterior of McClain's keep you from visiting. It's a smoky, diner-like establishment, but it takes me back. The staff is friendly, but don't expect any charm. This is a country kitchen. You go for the food. They also sell art here. The paintings are interesting to look at even if you wouldn't buy one. Nice place. read more
