I sent my son and daughter-in-law to Hedge after speaking to Luisa about ordering wedding flowers. My daughter-in-law felt comfortable with the concept they discussed and we put down the deposit to save the date. The flowers were OK, but definitely not the value of what we paid. But the worst part is that I had come in from out of state and went to the shop the day before the wedding. I understand the shop was busy, but to not take the time to talk to me and provide an opportunity to see the flowers I was absolutely floored. I guess once they have your money there was no need to be professional or remotely kind. I would not recommend this florist. They are overpriced and lack service skills. We paid for delivery and set up, yet when I arrived at the venue the flowers for the ceremony had been left for the wedding coordinator to deal with. We had ordered 4 "cloud" type arrangements for the ceremony area that were so small it was laughable. They were not substantial enough to be placed on the pillars because the coordinator was afraid they would blow off with the gentle gusts of wind. Knowing that the ceremony was outside, and that those arrangements were to frame the area for the ceremony, if the florist would have done what we paid them to do and set up the flowers, they could have either used heavier vessels for those arrangements or they could have used any number of floral tools whether it be floral tape or floral putty to assure the arrangements were in the place on the pillars as they were supposed to be. Isn't that what someone would expect for a delivery and set up fee? Charlottesville is a touristy town so naturally I was prepared to pay more than I would in my hometown, however, I wasn't expecting to be gouged and then not receive the service we had paid for. read more

Beautiful flowers and lots of sweet gift ideas! Hedge Fine Blooms is a great place to visit if you've got a last minute gifting need or just want to do something special for someone special. It's also a fun place to just wander into and stare at the color-sorted beauties on their glorious front flower table. The selection of flowers is always changing, and they carry unique and tasteful varieties. If you've never really gone to a true florist, and maybe are used to buying grocery store bouquets, (I see on that, but) you are in for a treat when you see what Hedge Fine Blooms can offer you. Leaps and bounds apart from a grocery store or kitschy florist. The floral designers can come up with a beautiful bouquet or arrangement for you fairly quickly and with amazing taste, if you don't know where to get started yourself. Trust them. They also do great wedding flowers. Huge and immaculate backdrops, or quaint and delicate details, whichever is your style. They'll work to fit in your budget, but know they are a high end floral shop so it won't necessarily be cheap. Definitely stop in to Hedge to see what gorgeous flowers they have in stock at the moment, because any day is a good day to give or receive flowers, and fresh flowers always brighten a space. read more

My good friend had to put her cat down a couple weeks ago and she was very upset about it. I wanted to send her something nice (from Missouri) and found Hedge on Yelp. They were super nice and helpful over the phone, put something together for her that was beautiful, and she received it the same day. Me and my fiancé were going to do business with them for our wedding. However when we arrived to their business we did have mask, which are required to enter regardless of vaccination status. I kindly at the door asked if they could provide us mask coverings. The lady was so rude and had an attitude. So we left. Just lost business from poor customer service. read more

OLD REVIEW, JUST FINISHED FROM FEB. 2012. Let me firstly say that I go out of my way to support local businesses. I have bought flowers from hedge many times and am usually fairly happy with my purchase. But this Valentines Day I preordered a dozen red roses and was very disappointed with the quality of the flowers. The gal I spoke with when I ordered them said they would last weeks, as in 14+ days, the roses slowly opening to full bloom in a week or so. But just after three days the petals began to blacken and fall off. The flower buds never opened before they began to droop and look sad. For $80+ dollars I would really like them to last for as long as Hedge said they would. I will still patron them for random bouquets, but big significant celebrations that call for flowers I will buy from a different florist. read more

I've now ordered from Hedge 2 times. The first time was for Mother's Day, a gorgeous bouquet I ordered online and was delivered as promised and very much enjoyed by the recipient. Hedge went above and beyond with another more recent gift I purchased. I placed an online order, and requested delivery for the following day. It was sent out as promised, but the morning of the scheduled delivery I found out that the recipients were leaving town for a couple of days. I contacted Hedge to let them know the recipients were out of town for 2 days, and wanted to see if they could delay deliver. But Hedge was fully on top of things and had already delivered the flowers, and left them at the g I thought that was that - the flower recipients would receive them a couple of days later and they would still be lovely. BUT, on their own after my phone call inquiry, Hedge decided to retrieve the flowers and then deliver a new, fresh bouquet a couple of days later. That is extraordinary customer service, and I will continue to order from Hedge and tell everyone else to do so. Bravo for doing the unexpected. My significant other ordered a very nice bouquet (from the picture) but when it arrived, it literally looked nothing like the photo and instead looked like they put cabbage on a stick and sent it to me. When he called to express his concern, the florist was very resistant and only offered a 10% discount on his next order. For a very expensive flower shop and one that is local, it was very shocked at it's service and disappointed. read more

I am beyond impressed with Hedge Fine Blooms! I wanted to send my sister something really special for Mother's Day because our Mom passed away a few months ago, and my sis had a baby 2 weeks ago. I knew that this was gonna be a really hard day for her. Unfortunately I totally dropped the ball and didn't call and place my order til late Friday afternoon (of what has got to be one of their busiest weekends of the year). I spoke with Kathryn, and she apologetically said that they wouldn't be able to get them delivered by Sunday, which was totally understandable! She told me Tuesday would be the earliest, which I was happy with. Kathryn was soooo kind and caring over the phone and told me she knew how important this bouquet was to me, and would make sure it was perfect. Karen called me on Monday morning saying that the flowers were done early, which of course I was super excited about!!! My sister called me once she got the flowers and told me that they were literally the most beautiful flowers she had ever received!! Walked by Hedge downtown last week and was almost knocked over by the smell of flowers coming through the open door of their shop. When I walked in, there was an enormous glass table filled with fresh flowers, many of which I'd never seen or heard of before. I was looking for a bouquet for a friend, and picked one out with the help of a very friendly and knowedgeable young florist. There is nothing like Hedge in town (I've looked), except for their other, smaller store in the Main Street Market. They take their flowers seriously-there's not a fuzzy bear or kitschy card in the place. This is not someplace you go for your Aunt Martha whom you never see and don't care about. You can get her those plastic wrapped bouquets at any grocery store. Hedge is a place to buy flowers for someone you love (or for yourself)! You won't be disappointed. read more

I managed to screw up the delivery date for mother's day flowers. Realizing it on mother's day, I called thinking I would leave a message asking for delivery on Monday or Tuesday. I called to order a bouquet to be delivered to my mom. The woman I spoke with could not have been nicer or more helpful. My only request was that there be a sunflower in the bouquet - otherwise, I knew nothing about flowers and left it up to her. We got to chatting about a few other things and afterwards I thought that the sunflower part may have been forgotten. LESS THAN AN HOUR LATER my mom texted me that she received a beautiful flower delivery! I don't even know how they did it so quickly, it was magic. However, I was right and the sunflower was forgotten :-( but my mom said that it would not have fit in with the arrangement so I let it slide. My mom did, however, go to the shop today to tell them that they forgot the sunflower and said they were very rude about it. But they did give it to her and she can be a little dramatic, so I'm hoping that they weren't actually rude at all. The staff was very nice and helpful. They created a beautiful arrangement at a fairly inexpensive price. You can create your own arrangement or have the ladies there create it for you and add as many or as few flowers as your heart desires. My boyfriend and I recently began decorating our new place with plants. When we stumbled upon Karen's shop on a short visit to Charlottesville, we were like two kids in a candy shop, admiring her beautiful selection of flowers and plants of all kinds. Hedge is perfect. When you call for flowers it's usually an emergency or the stakes are at least pretty high, and the results are startling. Hedge has done yearly, massive and deliriously beautiful works for events I've hosted from afar in Charlottesville, and they're always, always show-stopping. I'm somewhat disappointed. I told the young lady working here that I wanted to spend only $15 for a mixed bouquet. She put together a nice bouquet and went to the register where she found that what she had put together was over my price range. She took away some of the flowers, which is understandable, and presented me with a slightly slimmer bouquet and said I owed $23. Needless to say I will happily drive the extra few miles across town and see my old, more personable friends at A New Leaf next time. read more

Although Hedge makes beautiful arrangements, I had a very negative experience with their online ordering system and staff. After I ordered a small arrangement last week, I never received a notification email (as their emailed receipt indicated I would) or confirmation of delivery. When I spoke with someone to follow up, they claimed they were unable to confirm the delivery and were extremely dismissive of my request. I worry from this interaction that smaller orders aren't taken seriously at Hedge. Additionally, as someone currently planning my wedding, I am glad I had this experience before I asked Hedge to do the floral arrangements. read more

My husband ordered a $100 bouquet for my birthday. They sent 1 1/2 dozen tulips (1 dozen not fresh), 1/2-1 dozen daffodils and 1/2 dozen snapdragons. Nothing was arranged, instead just dropped into a tall glass vase. I called to complain. They offered to send something else, but said that these were "arranged by their top designer." Hmm. read more
