I have a vague recollection of stopping here as a kid for a burger possibly with my grandparents. Having read that the menu has been updated since back in the day and having promised my wife a lobster roll we made the trip not really knowing what to expect. Luckily for us since it was a rainy afternoon the place was not too crowded and we found a seat on the covered part of the patio. My wife ordered he lobster roll with fries and I ordered the shrimp po'boy with a side of potato salad. Everything was excellent both sandwiches hop and fresh tasting. The potato salad tasted like real homemade and not from a gallon industrial bucket. We also took 2 ice cream sandwiches home with us and they were also very good. Well worth the trip from the surrounding towns to visit an institution that has been around since WW1! Next time I want to give the dogs and burgers a shot, they looked very good. read more

It seems like Heibeck's doesn't get as much coverage in roadfood-type lists, compared to places like Harry's in Colchester or Blackie's in Cheshire, but after my lunch there today, I thought they deserved rather a bit more. I wanted a way to sample both their chili and their relish, so I decided on a "Heibeck Original" burger with added chili, and a "Heibeck dog", which includes relish. Wow. This was, hands down, the best chili I'd had at a restaurant of this kind, and it had everything to do with the tomatoes and whatever sublime combination of spices were used. Just exceptional, and I remarked so to the woman that came out to ask me how everything was, who informed me that it was a new recipe. I've no clue how it tasted before, but it was sure as heck delicious now! Combined with the cheese and the "Heibeck sauce" (a cousin of the Thousand Island dressing / Big Mac sauce family, I guess), it elevated the burger to the highest tiers of my personal rankings. It was that good. Alas, the hot dog did not reach the same height. The relish was excellent, in the spicy-sweet tradition, but there wasn't quite enough of it (you can't even see it in my photo, buried in between the dog and the bun), and the dog itself was an unremarkable Hebrew National. Sorry, guys, but Hummel's, Thumann's, Martin Rosol's - that's the level you have to play at. I was excited to see potato salad on the menu, since cold sides aren't something you see a whole lot of at roadside stands, but I'm afraid it wasn't a memorable one. Undoubtedly, it would be better if it reflected the same kind of effort that they clearly put into their chili. Ah, well. Fries next time. It's not uncommon for a place like this to earn a recommendation solely on the strength of one dish or even condiment. For Heibeck's, it's their chili, at least in my book. Both that and their relish were good enough to potentially rehabilitate their hot dog on my next visit: I foresee a chili dog with a double or triple portion of relish. Mmmm. read more

Absolutely craving a lobster roll, so drove down from Danbury with my daughter. Beautiful day. Both of us ordered lobster rolls and fries. I got a root beer and my daughter ordered a chocolate shake. What a wonderful lunch. Lobster rolls were piled high with sweet meat on perfectly toasted rolls. Fries, excellent. And my God, my daughter's shake was decadent. Heibeck's means summer!! Heibeck's means summer for us. I went here as a kid with my parents, then brought my own kids here when they were young. In the old days it was more of an ice cream stand, but they've really expanded their food offerings. Moreover, they used to just have a couple of chairs out front, and now they have a very nice garden with tables and chairs in the back and parking in the back that is a bit easier if you have small kids with you. I just love this place. I think most would give it a 4, but for me it is wrapped in memories of young kids with smiling faces and dripping ice cream cones, so I have to give it 5. read more

Lobster roll was really not good... don't understand the hype. They need to clean their grill because the roll had black spots that ruined the flavor. We really love it here! The food is great and we love the ice cream too. I took away one star because there seems to be a bee hive around there and it's very stressful to have bees constantly swarming around, especially with kids. I know bees are good for the environment but I wish they would relocate the hive for safety. read more

Note: This review is only for the ice cream and not the food I stopped here after going to lunch down the road (I have a separate dessert stomach). I got a scoop of the kahua sombrero (Coffee ice cream with a touch of coffee liquor) on a sugar cone. The ice cream was flavored well but I wasn't blown away by it. My scoops had a few chunks of ice crystals in it, so wasn't too thrilled by that. The outdoor seating area is very cute. Looks like it is BYOB too. It seems like a great place for summer night out. Lobster roll, boooom! That's all you need. They butter a hot dog roll, toast it on the grill, and than stuff it with real whole lobster chunks (no filler). This is a fitting review for Father's Day, since good ol' dad insisted we check out Heibeck's for lunch. He'd read about it in CT Magazine and since it's only 20 minutes from my parents house (and over an hour for me - boooo) we figured we'd take advantage of the sunny day and meet up there with the whole family (I think we're the anti-fancy brunch fam). I'm a fan of basically any roadside food shack but Heibeck's truly takes it to the next level. What seems like an unassuming burger + hot dog stand ended up having a full menu of creative tacos, sandwiches, seafood, burgers, dogs, and plenty of ice cream. Perfect for a hot Sunday in June. And there's surprising amount of seating tucked around back - it's a little oasis with eclectic and charmingly mismatched tables/booths and some lovely bistro lights strung around. Ordering was a breeze - order at the counter and a server brings it over to your table. There were 9 adults and a baby and we all fit at one long table. Among everything we ordered some highlights included the hot lobster roll (obviously!) in a butter wine sauce, baja fish tacos, classic cheeseburger, freshly squeezed lemonade, caramel heath bar ice cream -- the finest in beachy summer fare (though sadly too far from the beach). Ok...so this place has been around forever...and it is sort of a landmark burger and fries kind of place on the main route between Norwalk and Danbury. My only concern is, when did a burger lunch for one, without fries or a shake mind you, not only blow past the $12 mark but roar past a whopping $15!? Now don't get me wrong...they do make a tasty burger. I got the 1/2 lb. Cowboy...and I have to admit it was terrific...but 11.99 for a burger, even one this good, seems a bit over the top. I cringe to think that had I gotten fries and a shake, I could've gone past what I spend at the trendy and overpriced Shake Shacks or Plan Bs At these prices they ought to be paying me to get a t-shirt, not charging an even more absurd $22 for one. I'd get a frequent-visitor punch card if they offered. Both soft-serve and scoop ice creams are excellent (I am a serious connoisseur of soft-serve in the tri-state area). Staff are so cheerful and friendly even when the lines get really, really long (which they inevitably do, especially on weekends). The outdoor tables encourage hanging out. Really appreciate the chalkboard signs that support community goodwill (like Pride, for example). Easy parking. Food prep takes a while, because it's made to order! Good hamburgers, fries. Heibeck's Stand has been on my radar for quite a while. Last Friday I was finally able to try their wonderful looking creations!! I grew up in New Fairfield but I now live in Long Island NY. It's a bit far but totally worth the trip!! I was able to catch up with 2 friends from High School!! One is Vegan and she raved about the Vegan Veggie Burger!! She will definitely go back just for that!! We also tried the Hot dog with chili and cheese as well as the Cheeseburger. All the food was simple and delicious!!! (We were so hungry and the food looked so good that we didn't even take pictures) After lunch we had to try the ice cream. The peach ice cream was light and refreshing. They also offered 2 Vegan flavors, toasted coconut and mocha fudge. If you like coffee...you will LOVE the mocha fudge!! The toasted coconut was to die for as well!! Delicious comfort food at its finest!! I've had this road side food stand on my radar for some time, and been drooling over their gluttonous food porn posted to their Instagram page for months. Having just moved to Wilton last month, I've been to Heibeck's half a dozen times to get my fix in before they close for the winter season (their last full day of service was yesterday Oct 22) and can't wait for them to re-open so I can have them part of my regular eating out routine again. If you are a burger lover, the Heibeck's Original is a MUST HAVE burger. It reminded me of a Shake Burger, only better. Assembled in a messy-in-a-good-way fashion with lettuce, tomato, hand-cut pickles, and American cheese this is the quintessential beef sandwich that you dream about but avoid partaking in on a daily basis because you prefer to clog your arteries every other day. The literal icing on the cake for this burger is the Heibeck Sauce, which is akin to a mayo/ketchup mix you find on a mass produced BigMac, except this one is made fresh daily and gives the burger this rich and tangy kick that sets it apart from your regular loaded burger. I went with the 1/2 pound two patty version and OH EM GEE talk about self-indulgent euphoria! I also chased it with a side of falafel, which comes with more home-made savory saucy goodness. This time it comes in tzatziki sauce form, which is thick, garlicy, and dill-y just the way I like it. My wife has been on a serious fry kick as of late, and they come in all sorts of shapes and sizes at Heibeck's. You can get your traditional straight cut russet potato style, or if you're looking for a more seasoned curly fry they got that too, or if you have that sweet potato craving and are looking for it in waffle fry form to create a netting like grid to scoop up even more ketchup, they got that too! When I brought my niece and nephew here they split a chocolate milkshake, and they both said it was one of the best they ever had. And being ice cream loving early teens, they have had their fair share of experience! I got the lobster roll here and it was solid, and the buffalo chicken tacos were great as well. Looking forward to trying the fish and shrimp tacos down the road, as well as some of their creative hot dog creations! There is a great patio out back with lots of picnic table seating and big umbrellas to shade you from the sun. For this area in redding/ridgefield/wilton, the best ice cream, no question! They don't have a vast array of flavors that I am used to like at Il Bacio or Rich's Farms but it's good, make no bones about it. Never tried their food altho many swear by it but that is just not my thing. Love their Black Tiger, three red heads and a geek and their orange chocolate(?)-so yummy and good. Their ice cream cookie sandwiches are very good and generous in portions. Only bad drawback about this place is the scoop size...they can be pretty chintzy for the price-even the visual of their plaster one scoop on the counter is cheap!!! Staff of kids that work there are very perky and enthusiastic. Only other downfall to this place is their inconsistent times of closing at the start of the season...so many times we dashed here knowing closing time but they had already closed due to weather or slow crowd, so if you are banking to go here and it's after 7, call ahead! read more
