Ok, here we go! As you may or may not know: I enjoy Corned Beef Hash! My go to breakfast selection! Inquired of Armando, our server about the CBH, he assured me that he was 99% certain it is delicious, homemade etc...so that was my order. Two eggs, overwell, bread the yolk, toast and it was served with hash browns. The dish came out piping hot,crispy edges, eggs were over well, but not burnt, toast was toasted and the ramekin of strawberry jam....delicious strawberry flavor with a flair of homemadeness. Everything was tasty and delectable. What a refreshing experience-from the decor to the wait staff to the foodstuffs. Rating the CBH 4.50 out of 5 stars (portion was a bit small), but the taste & seasonings were on point, eggs are a 4.25 out of 5 stars,hash browns were 4.75 stars out of 5 stars (larger portion that CBH), they were flavorful, seasoned well! My wife was with me and ordered a crispy chicken sandwich with Swiss and honey mustard cole slaw. Listen, the chicken breast was freshly prepared, seasoned very well, not dry at all, the brioche bun held everything in place. The star of the show was the honey mustard cole slaw (who would think?)was creamy and plentious,that set the Swiss cheese and the rest of the ingredients to stardom! I will order that sandwich when I return! That sandwich right there rates a 4.75 stars out of 5 stars: it might have received a perfect score of a 5, but the slaw was a bit warm but delicious none the less! Her sandwich was presented with shoestring fries which were hot and tasty, a slight crunch but was void of s&p or any seasonings! Rating her meal (just tasting the sandwich and fries) will garner a 4.25 stars out of 5 stars for the fries. She ordered an iced tea-not sweetened and OH BOY did it need alot of sugar I'm not rating the iced tea at all. Normally I would order coffee, but didn't have a taste for coffee-imagine that...The CBH was $19 by itself and we paid $43.35 and left a $10.00 tip for Armando-so $53 for brunch was not bad, on the edge of pricy, but well worth the service, atmosphere as well as the foodstuffs! I read that they were under new management same family, but new management and they were raving about the changes that was so positive so I gave it a shot. Hence the one star review waiter was great but food marginal. I ordered an egg white omelette with spinach and avocado so they consider an egg white omelette three eggs because I was charged extra for the avocado and extra for the spinach that's not even about it. There's no doubt diners are back to basics but when it comes to Sherwood Diner, I'm calling Sherwood D in Westport, CT- the "Index Card Diner". Yes- I said index cards. This could probably be more spacious than any other (Greek) Diner I've been to. The menu is standard diner fare done nicely and it's less in-your-face than other diners with an gazillion pages. Busboy is ready with an index card, asks what beverages you'd like, writes something on it and places the card on our table for the server to write what you'll order. I'm not sure what's highly recommended here- but my Bagel+Lox with the works- had the right ratio of tomatoes slices:thinly sliced onions. Since I'm so particular with just a sliver of cream cheese on any bagel and I'm never understood, it was brought in a small container so I can personally control my own amount. Perfect! We keep giving it another chance since we frequented it so much, updating this classic was a huge mistake. The quality of the food has gone downhill. The offerings on the menu are limited and the young gentleman running it now does not seem to have the passion of the old guard. The Spanakopita comes with 2 pieces of pie with a greek salad. It's perfect! ($15) You must try the milkshakes (strawberry) it really makes hangry people happy. They're made of strawberry ice cream not too sweet and very light. Let me just state - I have not been back to this location in a few years... so not sure how it is right now. However, when I used to be in the area - this was my go to stop - Every Time! It is the perfect greasy spoon east-coast diner that we all know and love! The place is warm and inviting, the service is great and the food is excellent (chef's kiss!). We were seated almost immediately and our waitress was very sweet and attentive even with a busy diner. It's a cute place I liked the vibe there too! Ok, so, I feel like I have the pedigree to review a diner. Growing up on Long Island with many late nights diner meals and even parked cars at one. I can say that this diner is extremely solid! First, cleanliness creates "ambiance" in a diner. It's roomy, not cramped and cluttered, which is nice. Plenty of helpful staff. The food has an above diner quality at least in the patty melt, fries with gravy (the gold standard test of a diner IMHO). The PM cooked perfectly, good quality and delish! They serve theirs with bacon, if you it like that way, but, I go for OG patty melt. My dining mate (nameless to protect the innocent) had not one, but, two Belgian waffles. Excellent. We pulled up and were a little worried about the packed and tight parking lot. But, we got seated as soon and we walked in. The waiter took our order. I didn't want something that was noted in the omelet that I ordered, and was told I would have to order a custom omelet, which was confusing to me. So, I ordered it as is and picked out what I didn't want. The food was VERY good. One of the best corned beef hashes that I've ever had. The service was meh. No one checked in during our meal, so we were really thirsty when we were empty. We finally got the attention of the host and he gladly filled them for us. Upon leaving, I noticed they sold t-shirts, so I wanted to buy one for my son. The host was very helpful and then asked someone to ring me up, so he could seat people. Instead of helping with that, they told him they don't know how to ring it up. So, he ran over to do that too. This used to be one of my favorite diners in CT which is the land of diners. We used to time our drives to NYC from our former home in CT. On a return trip to the area for the burial of my parents, we had the opportunity to stop there fir lunch on the way to LaGuardia Airport. What a total disappointment. The menu had shrunk considerably and many of their best offerings were gone including the fish @ chips I had always enjoyed and my wife's favorite Greek dishes. Adding insult to injury, the formerly superb service was missing at least that day. Steve took four seconds on deciding on the pesto chicken panini, but I wanted something...else. Cajun chicken wrap for the WIN! We got our food piping hot - not lukewarm like some other places. The cajun chicken wrap had an amazing kick to it, and had tons of peppers, melted cheese, and flavor to calm my inner hungry troll. Steve was in love with his panini, and commented that if we were closer, that he would need to have this more often. Barbara was very professional and also very engaging, personable, extremely kind and a pleasure to speak with. We miss all of she's about back in Florida. We lived in Westchester county most of our lives but this was always our fave place to dine in between trips to Rhode Island. The restaurant was perfectly set up with plenty of socially distanced space between all of their tables. The eggs Benedict I picked up had shells in it - so many shells after the two first bites it became frustrating and inedible. It's a legend. Everyone who grew up in Westport grew up going here at some point, for some reason. Either for breakfast... After school lunch ...or late night food after being out. However, it has gone downhill, still offering traditional, classic diner food and no frills service, but with restaurant prices. Have been going here for over 40 years and last time I went a friend we had two burgers and two sodas and it was over $40. We could've gone to a proper restaurant and gotten better food, service, and environment. As well, they open so late now it's impractical for breakfast. However, ever since the pandemic, new management has adopted a laughably downsized menu, changed out classics (the amazing thick fries have been replaced with forgettable McDonalds-esque, no more chicken pesto panini), and cut their hours. Sherwood has always been an expensive diner, but it was always worth it. Now? No way. New owner has clearly optimized for profit and sucked the soul out of this Westport classic. It was a pretty traditional diner. But they serve really delicious and comfortable food. The service was fast and the atmosphere was pleasant. the seating was a little tight/close. As someone who doesn't usually order potatoes, the fries that came with eggs Benedict was very buttery and tasty!
