I have written 2 reviews on this place already since my mother has been here. Corinthian Gardens is…read morethe name of the skilled nursing facility here which is one wing of the building and the other wing "The sub acute care wing is known as Bakersfield rehabilitation center" in the same building just the other wing. Operating on two different licenses. The first one not good. The second one a little better as we built a relationship with the some of the staff while constantly having family with my mother during this stay she has received good care from certain staff members "Jeff" to name one! However it has been difficult to get anything done. They say they do physical therapy here.. that's a joke. They say they have to get the order from the Dr. (there is only 1 for this whole facility) and he only comes in once a month. Once we finally got a physical therapist to come in and try to work with her... they had every excuse as to why they couldn't do it. So there she lay even though my father would do physical therapy with her everyday when he visited she needed a lot more to get her better. (she was in a terrible car accident) So over months it was a constant battle to have anything done. They would rather have your family member lie there and just collect money from the insurance. Its ridiculous. Constant battle to have anything done. As she lye there and we fight and fight and stay on the staff to have the little things that mean a lot in her recovery done... The state showed up and shut down the "Corinthian Gardens Skilled nursing facility wing!!! all patients were then moved to other wing of building and cared for under the other license of Bakersfield rehabilitation and sub acute care. So the whole building as you enter was empty all doors closed to the rooms like a ghost town. Staff tried to say they were remodeling but One staff member revealed to us they were shut down by the State. So now we are trying to have my mom transferred out as we see that the state is now walking around the other wing where my mother is and the care is getting worse. Nurses and staff are telling us not to keep her here its no good.. but they will not do their part paper work wise to help us get her transferred out of this hell hole!! as I type this my dad is there to watch and make sure they complete the paper work as we have had it and want her out of there. The state has now shut down "Bakersfield Rehab and sub acute care the other wing of this facility. It has been completely shut down but remains open while they try to place all 120 patients somewhere else!! this place is a joke!! I am only giving one star cause it wont let me go forward with the post unless I select at least one! Id rather give none! and for the few good staff members there we thank them and hope they find better employment else where!

My husband & I visited his mom for the first time today, being from out of state. We were there…read morefrom early morning until a little after lunch. The following are things I noticed: All staff members seemed to have professional attitudes and work ethics, keeping busy either with the residents or in the facility. I saw no less than 4 persons cleaning: 2 washing the walls, one a toilet and one cleaning & disinfecting wheelchairs. I didn't see any lolly gagging or idle chit chat among themselves. The facility was not only clean but, they take time there to make it feel homey, not only with the bedding that covers the beds but pictures and, with Easter around the corner, they had decorations for that on each residents' doors & on bulletin boards in different places. Each resident has their own space in a closet, their own nightstand and dresser. They can have their own decor, bedding, etc. in their room. My MIL has a lift chair other relatives bought for her in her room. There's a very nicely kept patio for the residents to enjoy complete with patio tables & chairs & healthy looking plants & flowers-cheerful. Lunch smelled wonderful! And, it was a healthy, balanced meal. All in all, I highly recommend Westchester Gardens as a facility for your elderly loved one who needs care you can no longer give. They give the residents their meds on time, are open to questions & have a caring, professional, well trained staff.

In any event, most of the reviewers either love or dislike this place. My biggest complaint is slow, or nonexistent response time, during long stretches of late night and early morning sleep tome. Also, it's been way too cold in here, even though we're in Bakersfield. My final verdict is 2 stars.

I just cleared out my mother's room after she passed away. She didn't have enough time there in…read moreMemory Care because I think she enjoyed herself. She developed medical problems, left for skilled nursing then returned for Hospice care. But while there at Magnolia Place, the environment felt like staying in a hotel. The food was good, the caregivers cared and I know she was in a secure environment. She could walk as far as she wanted, had an active social life and had a very robust life helping "work" there cleaning up after meals. Everyone made her final time there the very best for my mother and me. As difficult as death is, they certainly helped me prepare for the experience and I thank them. Kathy is the best as a go-to person. Thank you all.

Definitely not "best". Over several years of having them take care of a loved one in memory care…read moreI have been disappointed in their level of service. She finally passed away recently. Keep in mind that you are charged daily until all items are out of room. So while you are grieving you better hurry it up because its $300 minimum at last year's rates. Even a couple days adds up quickly so stop your crying and get to packing... I get that maybe that's a standard assisted living norm, but I think a day or maybe 2 to collect furniture would be nice. They refuse to have not even a single item donated to them so everything must go. That's fine, just be aware. It just was a little harsh knowing that things were broken on day one of moving in and were never fixed for years even though they were safely hazards and I kept reminding them. Their maintenance leaves something to be desired. Their phone system and people's willingness to answer the phone or respond to voicemails is abysmal. It's shocking how much you have to pester them for the smallest issue by phone. It became easier to walk in to get an answer. Just embarrassing. From the receptionist to the executive director, good luck in communicating with them once you sign the paperwork. Even their corporate body acknowledged issues with Bakersfield and had communication difficulties. Memory care is just not a good place. That's probably true anywhere. Directors made excuses for bad employees' untold number of times. Activities are slim to none and all residents are merely parked in front of tv for most part. Yes, this is memory care and you have to lower expectations and I certainly did. But its horribly understaffed which really does show and makes things worse with residents wandering into unlocked rooms and stealing things and going into unlocked laundry areas and ingesting substances. The med techs I guess are overworked but it manifests itself as they just don't care. Over several years I have seen this. They stopped giving meds to my loved one because it was too difficult or they ran out and never told me. Communication was really bad and the disorganization just made it worse. If you are not fully on top of their meds, forget it. Magnolia memory care won't be either. Aide allowed loved one to fall in shower resulting in broken hip requiring hospital stay, surgery, and months in rehab hospital. I wasnt told for several days what really happened. Just that she fell and is complaining of leg pain. Then the story finally came out that the aide didn't tell anyone and only when I inquired about it was the aide terminated. Who knows for what reason or if they had already quit. I paid thousands in extra fees on this incident because her long-term care doesn't cover assisted living rent while they are in a rehab hospital. Actually between 7-10 thousand was out of pocket not including the surgery and hospital fees. All because they allowed her to fall and admitted it was their error. No apology was given and no credit or allowances were made. The meds, of which there were few in this case, were not managed well. I simply cant imagine if blood pressure and a host of other medications were needed. This facility's med techs and staff just can't handle the requirements of these patients. There were so many communication issues between the visiting doctors and facility staff where I was left out of the loop and I had to call because they just wouldnt communicate with me on proper meds or if something was called into a pharmacy. I was on top of it and still saw so many lapses in care that I cant believe they could survive a state medical audit. I soon learned that they just are there to manage a body instead of really caring for a human being. Memory care is HARD. Hard to place someone there and hard to watch them. Anyone in this situation knows this. I wish it was a better experience and I could add so many more examples of how Magnolia let me down, but I think I have communicated enough issues to give anyone in this situation something to think about. We count on these facilities to make the best of VERY difficult circumstances and hope there is compassion and care. We just didn't find that at Magnolia Place.
