Good food, great service... and best of all, it's located around the block from our place in Brooklyn Heights... so I can walk there any time! Some of my favorite items include the Chicken Shawarma platter which includes grilled chicken, saffron rice, salad, and hummus. I've also had a couple of their sandwiches, which are served in pitas and chocked full of ingredients. I recommend the falafel sandwich and the grilled chicken. By the way, their hummus is first-rate, so be sure to pick some of that up, too. Another good side choice is their lentil soup--they give you alot, and it's cheap... you might have to spice it up a bit when you get home, but it's tasty! Come here early for lunch... The line gets insane and there is limited seating. They seem to get through the crowd quickly, but u did feel special with my food and my table watching the masses suffer bwaahaha!! I got the chicken shawarma plate, which came with salad, hummus, rice and chicken. I got hot sauce and tahini on top when I was asked. I had food for two meals for 9 bucks. Since moving to NY I have been going around and trying many different falafel carts and restaurants, this one is still by far my favorite one. It has consistently been delicious and never disappoints. I order the traditional falafel sandwich and add hummus. The chickpeas taste so fresh, light and has a light crisp on the outside to add a nice crunch. It is then topped with fresh lettuce, tomato and tahini sauce, don't forget the hot sauce because it adds another complexity and doesn't burn your palette like some do and is just right. Best of all, you can have a whole meal and be satisfied for $4. That just doesn't happen in NY. read more

Green! If I ask you if your falafels are green inside...don't lie!! Green. It's a primary color. With the exception of 8% of the male population of the world...we all know this color. The wait was super long for no reason. I stand by my previous falafel reviews; it doesn't take long to fry balls of mashed chickpeas. As I watched others get their food loaded with tahini sauce I asked twice if my take out had sauce. Yes he said but alas yet another lie. Thank goodness I asked for sauce on the side. He barely wanted to give me two tiny containers. A lady shouldn't have to beg for sauce. Also I recommend adding onions as a topping. All great falafel places have onions. This place doesn't. Very, very good falafel and shwarma and even better at this price. Each is about $5. The brightest spot is the "white sauce" which is extremely flavorful, unlike most white sauce you will find with street carts. The meat is also just salty enough to combine with the sauce. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to hit this place up but since it's less than a block away from where I'm living, I'll happily go when I find the falafel fairy calling my name. The service was quick and friendly and the food was good to-go. Definitely not a place you probably want to sit down for hours at, but for a quick bite, it definitely suffices. Last night I was served what were definitely the biggest pieces of falafel I have ever ate and all at a good price. The hummus was tasty too and the the worker gave us three pieces of hot and soft pita to round out the meal. All of the salads (especially the mousaka) looked delicious so I will definitely be going back soon. Please understand: this is one of the greatest Middle Eastern spots you're going to find in America. I've just written a book about the region, after traveling from Syria to Iraq to Afghanistan to Yemen (not for the sake of falafel comparisons per se, although that was definitely a side perk) -- and I can tell you that this place has in its heart the very best parts of it all, in hospitality and in hot sauce, in adherence to classic recipes, and in their commitment to balancing flavors like Philippe Petit on a highwire. Get anything as a salad or as a sandwich: get eggplant or moussaka, kibbe or kufta. The harisa (hot sauce) is perfect. The spinach pies are phenomenal when hot, and kind of amazing with the yogurt dip (like tzatziki) they also make (incredibly generous, affordable prices and super easy to take out). The grape leaves are perfect. The eggplant is perfect. The chefs (from Morocco and Syria) are unfathomably kind. Yesterday I met the cook Samira, from Latakia in northern Syria, and she beams with the kind of smile that says: I have cooked all this for 75 years, and dammit I know what's good. I have waded through the "Mexiki" shawarma in Abu Dhabi and the dry ta'amiya in Egypt. I have been to Mamoun's in New York and Mamoun's in New Haven. And I can tell you: Heights Falafel is a hidden gem. And it's cheap. And I've never even had their baklava. read more

Food is OK and I would have given 3 stars but the guy at the counter made me never want to return to this place. Price listed for sandwich $5.75, when my guy hands me my sandwich he says it is $6.25. I mention it says different right above my head and he says "well you'll know next time". Wow. I love this little hole in the wall. I've been coming here since I was in high school, and I'm always happy to stop by and bring a friend or two (really, it's quite small, I wouldn't bring more than three people with you at the most, if you plan to sit). The television's always on, but rarely in the times that I've stopped by has the volume been up too high, so conversation can flow freely and you can always refer to whatever seemingly out of place images and commercials pop up. The guys behind the counter are funny and friendly, and I always feel welcome and seen, which I think is important for good customer service, especially in such a small shop. The food is good, the price is crazy affordable (especially in Brooklyn Heights!!!), and the portions are awesome! On my endless search to discover ALL the best Falafel and Shawarma in my area(Brooklyn Heights-Cobble Hill), I LOVE when I find another treasure among the gentrified labyrinth that is old Brooklyn. So I ordered a chicken shawarma for my first visit. $6 after tax. It was LOADED with spiced chicken and accompanied by fresh veggies and seasoned tomato mixture. Then I performed the ultimate(OK, its not THAT ultimate, its pretty basic) test of running home with my hot little pita. 10 min later, and about a mile and.........it has SURVIVED a turbulent run and the pita integrity with two sauces within the meat pocket. This is NO easy feat, and I commend the chefs and the pita quality for ensuring a safe and delish resolution. Also, the lady at the counter was super nice. Bonus. I will update my review once I've tried the falafel, but this wonderful lil chicky shawarma has tapped into my heart and soul. So happy to have found this spot. read more

Went here for a quick dinner on a Wednesday. The place wasn't super busy so I was able to get my food pretty quickly. The chef was amusing and I liked his sense of humor. Food was pretty good. We walked the Brooklyn Bridge specifically to eat here, and it was worth every step. Authentic middle eastern food, I will be thinking about the food I couldn't finish for weeks. The owner was so friendly and attentive. While we were there about a dozen locals came in (always a great sign), and he knew several of their orders without them even speaking. It's a ten minute easy walk from the Bridge, and very close (about a half of a block) to the Clark Street station if you, like us, get too full to walk home. No alcohol, just delicious, fresh food and good company, and there are plenty of bars on the street to grab a drink before/after you eat. The falafel are moist inside/crisp outside, and generously sized and the tabouli was outstanding. You won't be sorry you made a point to come here. read more
