We were shocked and extremely saddened by Helder dropping us - out of the blue - after providing a quote for a major project. Our relationship had been fantastic and the work fantastic, for years. We referred many customers to him. A month after providing a quote and not receiving a response to our emails or phone calls, I finally connected with his receptionist who couldn't understand why we had not been contacted with a date to begin work. She was totally preplexed. After calling many more times we were finally told Helder didn't want to come into the "city" (D.C.) anymore (??). Why give us a quote? Why couldn't Helder himself provide this information after years of contracting and referrals of new customers? We absolutely did not expect this kind of unprofessionalism and unkindness from someone we valued so highly and had such a great relationship with. Still sad... read more

It took the person who called himself "helder" weeks to finish a simple Job. Despite us being communicative and trying to work with him he was constantly late, stated that he wasn't able to make it to the site and continuously delayed our process. Stay away. read more

I was looking forward to working with Helder Electrical based on their reviews, but I was quite disappointed with their process and lack of follow up. Scheduling an estimate with Vanessa went smoothly, and Tito arrived on January 6th to look at my property and go over the projects. He answered all my questions and even took a picture of my house for reference. However, I didn't hear back after a few days, so I followed up with Tito, who texted me back about a basement project that was clearly not mine. (My project pertained to the driveway and fireplace.) I mentioned that there must have been a mixup, but I never heard back after that. It is now January 22nd, and I still have not received my estimate. I doubt that I ever will. Still, I am grateful this "ghosting" situation happened now rather than during the actual project. In case I ever do hear back, I've lost too much trust in this company. As a lifetime do it your selfer and perfectionist, I finaly had to admit I was too old to crawl around an attic to install ceiling lights and fans. So I contacted Helder and I was glad I did. Thier performances was more than expected. They were hired to only install the wireing but since I already had the fans and fixtures they also installed them. The work was done well in a timely fashion and cleaned up afterwards. read more

Helder and his team are wonderful! From quote request to project completion, they were a joy to work with every step of the way. They are professional, prompt, and reasonable with pricing. We had five light fixtures replaced, an issue with a light in our bathroom fixed, and a gas flue repaired, all in under an hour! Helder also went out of his way to help us, giving us an estimate the day after Thanksgiving and completing the work on a Sunday morning. Our huge oak fell down in front of our house and pulled down all the power lines with it during an intense heat spell. Helder came to the rescue and for a fair price! Helder and his team worked for two straight days to install new lines inside and out , replace our old circuit breaker and coordinate all communications with the inspector from NOVEC to ensure that we had power by Friday (since NOVEC won't do anything over the weekend). We were very impressed with the degree of professionalism of this family run business and couldn't be more grateful for Helder's expertise. Setup an appointment for Friday, Nov 20 from 12-2 and the technician did not show nor call even after I spoke to someone at the office informing them of the technician not showing up promising he would call. Setup another appointment for November 24 from 12-2 and again the technician is a no show. Clearly they frequently do not show up for appointments that the office sets up. read more

My wife and I have considered remodeling our kitchen for the past few years now. We have had multiple estimates from many reputable businesses in the Northern Virginia area but none have ever been affordable until now. I can honestly say we have not had the best of luck with contractors in the past so I was extremely cautious going into this project. Especially, knowing that most contractors require half of the money up front before they will even begin a project. There is nothing more unsettling than handing over a check to a complete stranger, knowing that it will most likely be cashed that same day before any demolition has even been started. The first time I met Helder, he arrived on time, actually he was a few minutes early. He introduced himself and asked us what we were looking to do with our kitchen. We explained that we were looking to upgrade our existing kitchen with new cabinets, a new countertop, and backsplash. We already knew the color we wanted for the cabinets but were unsure about the colors for the countertop and backsplash. When we asked Helder for suggestions, he provided us with a few names of tile and countertop places so we could get an idea as to what was out there. He then explained that once we had picked out what we wanted he would send us an estimate by e-mail within 2-3 business days. The first day demolition started I was extremely nervous. Again, in the past, contractors have started projects and then never returned to finish the job and by that time the check has already been cashed and the contractor is gone. Helder and his crew showed up at the time he said they would and came prepared to work. Before they started ripping anything out they made sure they put tarps down to protect my floors. This was the first time I had experienced a contractor who actually cared about not ruining anything in our house so I was quite taken back by it. Helder is very personable and makes you feel completely at ease every step of the way. His crew was very polite and friendly as well. Once demolition started, Helder noticed some electrical issues in the kitchen and felt he should at least mention them to us so if we wanted to fix them while they had the kitchen apart we could. When I asked him about the cost he said he would add it on to the original estimate and have a new one written up to include the extras. We ended up adding two new electrical lines in the kitchen and moved the plumbing over a few inches to allow for a bigger sink and more cabinet space. We also had them install a vent for the microwave. All extras were discussed and re-written into the contract as we went along. All of the prices quoted were very reasonable compared to what was quoted by other contractors for the same service and the quality of work was excellent. Even the glass tile backsplash that was done by Raul looks amazing. Overall, this was the best experience we have had with a contractor in the past 12 years living in this house. There are a few more projects to be done around the house and I will definitely be using Helder Electrical Contractors to complete them. read more

Had 2 light fixtures installed in ceilings where none existed, as well as 2 ceiling fans. Helder had much more modern installation ideas than the handy men I contacted...and the price was comparable. They did exceptional, timely work with efficient cleanup. read more
