This is a horrible job. Young lady had an attitude and acted like she was doing me a favor for a simple mani pedi. No hot towel for mani or pedi. No clean up brush for pedi. Solution for cleanup was bring reused again. Sloppy job. Sloppy attitude. And I gave a tip anyway. I wanted to like this place but 55.00 plus tip and no receipt I won't be going back. I called in advance to ask how much a gel manicure and gel pedicure would be. I was informed by the front desk manager that it would be $75. When I was ready to pay for the service, he told me the total was $90! I asked him how did it get from $75 to $90, and he replied because I asked for a design, and because I was given callous removal in the pedicure process. I told him that I didn't know the callous removal was extra. I also told him it's just glitter over half the color, it wasn't a complicated design because I have natural nails, short, and it's not acrylic or anything too fancy. I was taken by surprised with the additional fees. I was charged $15 more! It's like taking the tip money I put aside for the nail tech. To keep your customers, I highly recommend: 1. BE TRANSPARENT. Be honest and let the customer know that a service would cost extra BEFORE providing it. Give the customer the opportunity to decide whether or not they want the service BEFORE charging the additional fees at the end. It is unfair to expect your customer to pay for something they weren't expecting to pay extra for. 2. STOP the hidden fees. It is unprofessional and it says that you are not interested in building a positive reputation with your customers. 3. Common courtesy and consideration is key. Everyone is on a budget. Be considerate with how you treat your customers. I want to support local businesses without going over my budget. I had no complaints with my nail salon tech, Ana. She was professional and gentle with my nails, and she took her time. She deserved the tip! The manager, however, told her to "hurry up" in Spanish, so basically to rush my service, just to charge me extra. Management, please DO BETTER. Be professional. A little respect can go a long way. Well... not my fav salon because sometimes they make you wait for a long time even if you have an appointment, but when nobody else have appointments I guess it's a decent place you can settle for. It's on a corner limited parking available . First time I went they did ok with my pedicure , second time they told me they are done for the day at 5 when it say they are open later , third time she told me I had a Appt for tmm when it was really that day and I had to show her my messages so they did my nails and these were the outcome. This is a SERVICE review, not a quality review. The quality of their nails are second to none. My issue with them is their customer service. My biggest complaint is they don't take appointments & they are ALWAYS busy so if you're not there at the a$$ crack of dawn waiting in line at the door for them to open you're not getting your nails done. If you come and they are busy and you ask if you can write your name down and come back in 2 hours (which was the waiting time) the answer is NO! If someone comes within that time period they are going to be seen first. They will not write your name down. Second issue, they open and close when they want, I come at their "opening time" which is supposedly 9:30, not a light on in the place. I come at 6pm, and they are already closed!! And their closing time is supposed to be 7. Every time I've been there, there has been so many angry customers complaining. Wouldn't taking appointments be the smart thing to do? And it's a shame because I live a block away, this would be my go to salon. My advice is, accept appointments!!! You will save SO many regular customers. People work! I will never go in this salon again. NEVER! I deserve better and have clearly had better. I've been looking for a great salon in Jersey City that's able to do lovely nails, nails with artistic design and merit, hygienic and have ambiance. So I looked here on Yelp! and I found this place. From the view of the street the front of this "salon" is quite deceiving. I thought it might be an "okay" place and I will just give it a chance. I called before I came to inquire about an appointment and was told they don't take appointments only walk-ins (1st red flag for me). So I said okay I'll just do a walk in and I did. Why???? I went in and there was absolutely no ventilation so the whole salon smelled of acrylic and more! The place had absolutely NO AMBIANCE ZERO DECOR STYLE!!! Just because it's a "neighborhood" establishment does not mean the people in this neighborhood should have less than good-great!! Why you do business you create a space where people feel like they're special especially when you're providing a luxury inspired service (a manicure pedicure in a salon is a luxury not a necessity especially when you can do it yourself!!!). I came in and there was a receptionist desk but no receptionist...why? I asked the woman who was doing a clients nails that was sitting close to the receptionist desk who HELEN was she replied I'm Helen. I said I'd like to have my nails done please. She said simply flatly..."Ok, you want pedicure too?". Not have a seat and I'll be right with you...so I'm to just assume it's fine and she'll be doing my nails. Red Flag number 2!!! When she was ready for me to come to her she waved and spoke out "Ok!" I walked over to her and she began to start the water for the pedicure bowl. I said to her I'd like to have this design you have pictured here on Yelp! she looked and said no you can't have you have to take all your nail off and start over. I said "No, I don't think I'd like to do that. Is there a another way to do this design?" "She said NO! You take nail off first because design under nail...okay!" Red Flag number 3!!! I said "No thank you." And I proceeded to walk out. The young lady that was in the chair who was getting her nails done when I came in cane rushing out after me to ask what had happened. I said to her, "I deserve better and so do you. That was not the best in any way for me or yourself. We need not settle for less than the best. And I will not pay for substandard service, environment and hygiene....so my answer is NO." I didn't like the potential of a negative and mediocre experience. Also being ill mannered and clearly not putting for effort in decor cleanliness and service to the community is intolerable in fact it's deplorable! ***To Helen*** Show some respect to the community that helps to feed you and your family and keeps a roof over your head and pays for your work visa in this country!!! I started coming to this place about three months ago and I love that when I walk in I was seen. I highly recommended this place very often to many people. I received drip powder on a Friday before vacation and it chipped that same night. I went back in Saturday and they add another coat to my 3 nails that chipped. Monday i left for vacation this same day in Mexico my nails started to chip off very bad. I called and let him know and I returned from vacation Friday and went straight to the shop Saturday morning. They didn't accommodate me at all and I was told I will be charged. Businesses need to know when they are wrong and know when to take a loss. A friend told me about this salon in August when they first opened and I still continue to come here because it is the best I have ever been to. The owner and nail tech Helen is extremely professional, kind, patient, KNOWLEDGABLE and talented. There's no design she can't do. Her service is impeccable. Another nail tech Annie is really good as well. She's sweet and funny, too. Love her! The space is huge with 5-6 nail tables and 5 feet stations and they also offer waxing services in a private room. It is always clean when I come which is a must for me. My favorite service here is the "Spa Pedicure" that include exfoliation, warm towels and an extended massage. It's so relaxing and worth the price. There is a hot stone massage option for an additional charge I believe. Only con is parking is tough as it is a residential neighborhood with many buildings and driveways so take public transportation or get a ride to make it easier. read more

I'm having such crap luck trying to find a decent nail spot in Jersey City. Two weeks ago I went to a place where the techs were attentive but mine was too aggressive with the cuticle nippers. Today I went to Helen Nails because I read the great reviews both here and on Google and it wasn't too far from my house. I got there at 10:30AM and requested a regular mani-pedi. When I walked in, there were 4 techs working on people and another that was on her phone. The lady on her phone asked me to pick a color and set me up at a pedicure station and then went back to her call. I assumed once she was done with her call she'd return. 15min go by and another tech finishes with her client and then after going to the back comes back and asks if I'm waiting for any tech in particular. I say no, but the tech says "oh she'll (I'm assuming she meant the woman who sat me) be done in a minute" and goes back up front. Another 15 minutes go by, my feet are starting to get pruny and I look up front to see three techs still working on people and the two other women hanging out browsing on their phones. I think 30min is ridiculous to leave someone sitting around waiting for service when 2 employees aren't working. I ended up leaving and never getting any kind of nail service done. So truth be told if I could give zero stars I would. read more

This place used to be the best in the area. I've been a regular customer coming in weekly for almost a year. The wait time and inattentiveness has shot through the roof. Despite it being always busy with a wait, they have posted a sign on the door that they are no longer opened Sundays. (A heads up for the regulars would have been appreciated.) The workers don't get along and argue openly - especially when Helen isn't at the shop. I've gotten pawned off and stuck with unhappy workers a few times now and have had to spend hours in the chair for mediocre service that should take no more than 25 minted. Really really nice people. However they talked me into paying $68 for a gel mani and pedi - which would've been fine if they had lasted. The mani chipped within days! It was embarrassing and I was on a work trip with no time to fix it. The pedi chipped a couple of days later - within a week. I've had non-gel manis and pedis that lasted MUCH longer.
