Maria did not let my foot soak so, I thought I she was going with the dry pedicure method. In fact, it was the furthest thing. Foot Care - 0/10 (Basically nonexistent) She gently rubbed a scrub on my heels and quickly used the e-file drill on my toes. She spent more time on the big toe extension nail (which she suggested) than anything else. Polish Job - 0/10 -- She sloppily applied the polish (some areas not done, polish on my skin, plastic like top coat over areas with no polish underneath. -- The paint also looks like it is running away from my cuticles -- Then, 3 HOURS later, I took a shower and the polish came clean off one nail. It makes sense considering the topcoat was applied to my skin Professionalism - 2/10 -- At first she inquired about my nails (cateye nails Russian done by a great salon, Glowly in Fidi) and that was fine. Lots of questions about the pricing, how long they last, and that it takes so long. Maybe that's why they last! Things done with care last - what a concept?! She was surprised that my week old fingernails were not done that day. Makes sense since my hours old toes look like they were done by a 2nd grader two weeks ago. -- Then, she insisted on showing me their cateye colors. I was taken aback because for my pedicure, I was only shown about 30 colors in a book and none were cateye. She then proceeds to push the work of the owner Sophie and asks that I check out the Instagram. Fine, she is trying to steal me away from my salon I thought. Not unusual or the end of the world. -- Here is where it got uncomfortable, on the way out she said versions "see you next time," "on your next visit," "see you soon," and the like several times. It became awkward and I wanted to get out of there. If she wanted my business that badly, why not put more effort into the service? I wish she put the same effort and detail into the actual work. I live 8 minutes away walking and would gladly have come here for pedicures but, I doubt it. -- She was friendly and generally pleasant and the salon is pretty and clean. So, I give them a 2/10 Cost - Standard The cost is the same as run of the mill salons everywhere. There are so many salons in JC and a plethora in the city. Go somewhere else! I think this place stays open because there are so many newcomers like me are unaware. I came here to save money by not getting a pedicure at my Fidi salon and instead I feel like i have been robbed. I should just flushed the money. I contacted the salon and asked that they remove the service and refund me. It has been less than 24 hours. The first time I came here my nail tech did such an amazing job and the shape was perfect but the photo attached is for my second time when I asked for almond nails, and some of them are really crooked and weirdly shaped, and she didn't go all the way up to my cuticles..?? so I won't be going back to this particular nail tech. I usually go for gel pedicures and it's been fine. Nothing special but nothing bad. But today my gel pedicure was very sloppy the gel was stuck to the sides of the nails and I even asked her to redo some and she started cutting the color off with a cuticle cutter. This was kind of crazy to me. I ended up going to another salon and changing the color because it was so sloppy. I made her re do them and they still weren't good so I felt bad making her do it again maybe that's on me. Not sure maybe bad day but I don't think I'll be returning I wasted $75 unfortunately. read more

Upset because I started coming here a year ago and have since spent thousands on acrylics with two very specific nail techs that have always been consistent and wonderful in demeanor. This place though expensive, is very clean and I enjoy coming as it's typically very relaxing. Today I had someone random do a full set out of necessity as my typical tech is on vacation.. and not only was she not receptive to feedback or interested in doing what I'd asked from the jump - she cut my cuticle and wasn't very personable. I'd asked several times specifically for rounded edges and I very clearly am leaving with square. This place is generally very good - but I would ask around and stick to the people you know are solid. Linda is one I highly recommend as she is wonderfully kind, patient and dedicated to making your experience great. She also does great work with acrylics. Marisela is also lovely. Even with this particular experience I consider it one of the best places around and will continue to be a customer. However, I am an advocate for good customer service and I think the owners should be made aware if they are charging these prices. read more

Easy fix if you need the basics but don't bother coming here for anything else. I have been here at least 4-5x and always got only the basics: french gel pedicure and structured gel nails fill but today I hit my limit. This place very clearly nickels and dimes which you can see on the menu. The first time I came the tech tried to charge me $5 for a tip add even though it was very clearly my natural nail. This isn't a problem when provided with a service you can't complain about. However they offer services that can't be provided by every nail tech for designs as simple as a flower. Don't even bother trying to come here for a walk in, they always have just enough nail techs for the bookings. I finally reached my limit when they told me they couldn't do structured gel nails with a tip/extension.... Which is insane as a nail salon. Lastly, they don't offer paraffin treatments for your feet or any add-on except callus removal. I was told by the front desk associate and the nail tech to make sure next time I book with right person and if booking online call to make sure the nail tech you booked can complete the request..such an inconvenience to my day. I had to go to another nail salon to get what I wanted in which they talked about how much damage had been done to my nails!! If you do go I suggest booking with Lisa, she's not very personable but she's efficient and quick. read more

Completely disappointed by this nail salon. I've been coming here for years now and have never had issues with them until more recent. The first issue was their phone line not working but not updating any of their socials to let anyone know that. I was calling to tell them I'm going to be late due to the trains and could not get a hold of them at all. It was a holiday so I was scared they're actually closed and did not show up. The next issue I had was a nail tech named Joyce being completely rude once she saw me. I smiled at her and said hi when I sat down at her station and she never greeted me. She was very aggressive doing my nails. She kept on moving my hands around forcefully. I started laughing thinking this is just how she works. I decided to ask the front desk why the last girl did my structure gel differently than this time and they explained it nicely to which I had no issue. Joyce ends up going to the front desk and talking to them so I went to and asked what's going on. The front desk girl said she didn't want to work with me because she thinks I don't like what she's doing. I'm still completely confused because she was giving me attitude the whole time. Their only resolution to this was making me wait an hour for someone else to do my nails. I had no choice so I came back and Mo did my nails. I felt so bad and kept apologizing. She was clearly annoyed. She had to redo everything because Joyce didn't shape or do the first layer correctly. These nails did not last long because of how many times they kept getting shaved down. They only gave me a 10% discount :) The final issue I had with them was them claiming they called to cancel my appointment or left a voicemail DAY OF when they did neither because the tech had to leave early. They wanted to switch my appointment a whole hour later which I have to do because there's nowhere else to go last minute. It is unfortunate because I love my nail tech Nami but it's not worth paying these high prices when they hire other unprofessional techs and are not on top of appointments. read more

I was excited to find Sophie on instagram. Though instagram nails can be misleading, she was actually pretty good. At first... her designs are great but her nails are thick. I still returned, mainly for the designs. She is usually booked and not having made an appointment in time for New Year's I had to go somewhere else. Once. I then came back after and you would have thought I committed adultery. She mentioned it several times though I was there happily giving her my money for these overpriced nails again (I have never paid less than $100 for a fill and designs...) This visit however she decided that I didn't need a fill. That she would just RE-shape my nails. After all of the filing my nails felt then and as if they would break. I even asked, do you have a client right after me or something? I booked a fill and will pay for one, why not fill my nails? Well I left and less than 5 days later 3 nails broke. I came in because I'm not walking around with 3 broken nails after spending $100. Sophie basically blamed me for the broken nails, and then treated me like a dog. She aggressively grabbed my hands while doing my nails, rolled her eyes, sighed and was downright nasty to me. I was so disappointed. I've spent a lot of money with her. And brought my friends to have the worst pedicures ever. Her husband who works there is very sweet however.sI won't be returning to Sophie's and wish her luck. read more

Gotta be honest. I'm staying at the hotel next door and it couldn't be more convenient. But I read the reviews after booking and almost cancelled. While I don't doubt customers have had bad experiences (with some nasty pix to prove it), I can say my experience was absolutely wonderful. Fanny knew what she was doing, didn't try to up sell and in the end, my toes are looking spiffy. Everything was fresh and new. And the chairs are mighty comfy. As a New Yorker I am used to high prices. Sophie's does follow suit but to me it was worth it. My feet look great. Might be worth giving it a shot. If nothing else, ask for Fanny. read more

The nail technician was frustrated because she was having trouble taking off my gels. She asked what type of gel it was and I told her I'm originally from LA and the nail salon I go to uses Japanese Gel. She drilled a little too close and i felt the burn a few times, when I pulled my nails back she would give me attitude. She gets up and told the host the situation and the host came to the table to inform me their's a charge to take off the gels (not an issue I would have paid the cost, but could have told me at the counter, I felt like her intention was to tell me because the technician complained about how hard it was to remove the gels. She was very obvious how annoyed she was because she would lift my hand up to show the technician next to her my nails. The technician also told me they had to switch technicians because the girl was having troubling taking off the gels. WE ARE AT A NAIL SALON WITH ALL THE PROFESSIONAL TOOLS TO TAKE OFF WHATEVER TYPE OF NAIL GELS I HAD ON, DON'T MAKE ME FEEL LIKE IM THE PROBLEM. YOU'RE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE YOUR TECHNICIANS CANT TAKE A GEL MANICURE OFF. I told the second technician forget it I'm now uncomfortable and would like you to finish taking the polish off, I'll get my nails done somewhere else. TLDR, this was the worst pedicure experience, I got an infection and was told I needed to pay more money but did not actually do what they said they would do. This was the worst pedicure experience I have ever had. I wanted a basic pedicure $35 and callus removal, but was told that the only way I could have a callus removed was by opting in for the $65 or higher spa pedicure package. I specifically told them that I needed the large calluses on my heels removed. Ultimately this was why I agreed to have the more expensive pedicure, but they basically avoided my heels and at the end of the pedicure still had large calluses. I was told there would be a 10 minute massage, but they never timed it and did not give 10 minutes. Worse yet, after the fact I developed a toe infection from the pedicure. I got a pedicure and a gel manicure and I was truly impressed and satisfied. Sanitation was 10/10. For Those of us who know sanitation is a priority number one. The ambiance! I felt like I was in a five star hotel salon. I stepped in and I was immediately on vacation. The receptionist met me at the front desk, confirmed my appointment and offered me a seat. My technician Maria arrived shortly after I connected to their free WI-Fi. The Wi-Fi network was good. I had a work zoom call to attend. We went into the pedicure room. Enclosed in floor to ceiling glass walls and doors the pedicure room give luxury. Maria offered me water, sparkling or flat. I had sparkling. Then she proceeded to administer an amazing service. It was so relaxing. Afterward she did my manicure (Gel) and the owner's mother made the rounds. She inspected every technicians work. I've never see that before. I've never been in a nail salon like this either and I've been places. I kept looking out the window to remind myself where I was. In conclusion, Maria was excellent! The salon is a five star experience. It's a family affair and I will be back. It costs the same as every salon I've been to in City except this one is worth it. I'm posting some pictures. read more

I went for my first time yesterday and really enjoyed my pedicure and got a structured gel manicure. I loved the way my nails looked, and the girl was so sweet, but I'm really upset that after paying $55, my nails are lifting at the tips less than 24 hours after the service. I won't be going back there again. I am willing to pay whatever but not if it's going to last less time than just regular polish...super annoyed. Updated my review to 3 stars as the salon agreed to fix my manicure for no charge. I had it fixed this past weekend on Saturday and it appears to be lasting, without signs of lifting, as of Tuesday. The reason I still have only 3 stars is because it felt very rushed since I wasn't a paying customer (which wasn't my fault since it was their mistake with my manicure) and the gel color is kinda splotchy in places. May or may not give them another chance but let's see how these actually last... Update: Spoke too soon. 4 days after the second structured gel, one nail is already completely lifted. I tried to give this a chance but honestly, don't go here. It looks pretty inside but that's not indicative of the quality of the products. Everytime I get my gel manicure here I always get compliments from friends and strangers alike. I've came here a handful of times for gel manicure with Cheryl and she's always done a great job. Just make sure when you book your appointment to book a slot for designs as well so your nail tech can accommodate you as best as possible. It gets super busy here esp on weekends so you might have to wait a few minutes past your appointment time but that's fine for me, as i know how busy peak times can get. I like getting my nails done here so the wait is worth it imo. They also take apple pay unlike other salons, which is super convenient. I often get designs on my nails and usually come in with some inspo pics to show my nail tech. she makes sure i like the colors i chose before we end up curing it. it's also always a nice time chatting with her. the atmosphere here is fun and relaxing. read more

This salon may look nice when you walk in but beware it's not a nice salon. I scheduled an appointment for a regular mani and dip powder. The nail tech, Joy, gave me a book of gels colors. I explained to her I am not doing gel pedi or mani. She looked confused and said ok. Then I chose a color for both my hands and feet. She did the pedicure in 20 minutes. Rushed through it. I explained to her that my feet were dry and if she can scrub more. She was like next time. I said no I am paying for a pedicure and need my feet to be properly done. She looked annoyed and made up some excuse how she cannot use a callus remover. I have never felt so rushed before. Then, when it was time for the dip powder she said oh we don't have the color. I was surprised and asked why she didn't mention that before when she did my pedicure as I wanted the same color for my feet and hands. She looked even more annoyed and spoke to another technician in her language. She gave me so much attitude and did a horrible job on my nails. She left stains from the soaking on my hands and rushed through the dip. She basically gave me a clear dip powder and then used a gel coat on top. I got my acrylic nails removed after getting them done (at the same salon) for the first time and the nail tech filed so much of my nail off I could feel the tool on my nail bed. I had to stop her from continuing because it was so painful and my nails were paper thin at that point. The pink spots in the photo are areas where the nails are almost completely shaved down to the skin underneath. My natural nails are so thick that past nail techs have had trouble cutting them down and commented on how they're the thickest natural nails they've encountered. I told the man at the front desk the acrylic nail removal left my nails alarmingly thin and he had no sympathy, blaming it on my natural nails and the acrylic nail application process (which they are also responsible for) and would not take any responsibility despite my repeated explanations. When I asked what I could do to repair my nails or at least protect them since they are so thin they barely exist anymore, he said I could get another gel manicure. Absolutely will not return and will not recommend this salon to anyone. read more

I have had the most horrifying experience with them. I had an appointment booked at 3:15 PM that was accepted by the nail shop, and I was shouted at by an employee because I was asking her why I had to wait 30 minutes. I asked the front desk twice about when I could get on with my appointment and she said five minutes at first and then she said I don't know afterwards AFTER 30 MINUTES HAD PASSED. Then another employee comes up to me and starts talking about my appointment and how I am going to have to wait another 15 minutes that's 45 minutes of waiting and this was not a walk-in. She then had a yelling match with me for 10 minutes! I am absolutely appalled. The fact that she had the audacity to yell at a customer that did no wrong is mind boggling. By the way, this was my first time walking into the nail salon. I see that this shop doesn't have great reviews on google if you look into their latest reviews. Hope mine is another one. I also have a soft spot for small businesses because they add so much to the community. This shop was horrendous. NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY. read more

All of the bad reviews are true . I just left her after spending over two hours for the worst pedicure. I had an appointment with "Ivy" at 12:15. By the time it was 12:55 finally an older man came over and it was definitely not ivy. No massage, rushed the whole time. The paint job looked like my 4 year old daughter did it. I asked them to repaint and he took 30 minutes to do so. The manager came over and said he painted 3 coats to "make it pop". It was so thick and chunky. Had a really good first visit to Sophie's today! It had been recommended to me by a few people that go there and I'm really glad I went. Yes, they only do gel or acrylic or dip, no regular manicures, but they do regular pedicures. I saw May and she was SO lovely. The color selection is fantastic. It was $70 for a regular pedicure + gel manicure (and I tipped in cash, but I believe they have a venmo option!). Will be back in a few weeks! Very happy, although I do wish they offered regular manicures for when my nails need a break from gels too. read more

I have been to this nail salon multiple times before and had nice dip powder manicures done. I went last week for a powder manicure and the manicurist left me with nails that were not properly filed down so they were very bumpy and thick, not shaped correctly, and left pigment all over the skin around my nails and on my fingers. The front desk offered to have someone else "fix" it, which I then found out meant they had to completely remove the polish and re-do the entire manicure. Once the polish was removed she informed me that since my nails are now so thin, she would have to cut all of them down short (I had grown out my nails long for this manicure but one had broken and they were so thin that a tip extension could not be attached to it) and can only make them square shape when I had told her my nails are always round. TWO HOURS LATER, I am fuming, ready to finally leave the salon unhappy with my short square nails when I went in wanting long almond nails. The front desk had the audacity to tell me that the owner said I had to pay $55 for my destroyed nails that had to all be cut down short. I asked them to call the owner back, they did, and they said I did not have to pay. 3 days later, the shiny top coat of this manicure begins to peel off on all of my nails, on a few nails it peeled off completely. I have never had this experience with a dip powder manicure before. Considering that dip manicures normally last me 3-4 weeks, I reluctantly returned because I wanted them to fix the manicure so it would at least last 2 full weeks. They fixed the nails and then told me on my way out that the owner had "banned" me from returning, which is hilarious if they thought I would ever be returning to their salon after the way I was treated by them. There are plenty of other salons in the neighborhood, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. read more
