It's a cute place with a throwback atmosphere but I'm not sure if I'd go out-of-my-way for this one. I was on my way to western parts of the state and decided to stop by here to try their almond ring. While the dough itself was fine, there wasn't really much personality to the ring. I didn't find much cinnamon, cardamon, or any other spices, along with much almond flavor. Even though this ring was a couple dollars less, I think I'll stick to Crown Bakery's ring. It's small bakery that locals nearby love to go. They have 1.09 bread and pretty good sandwiches and home fries. I love getting their sausage egg and cheese on the Billie roll. It's awesome Plus their m&m cookies are also a nice treat to snack read more

I struggled with whether or not to post this. I am hoping that my review can help spare someone the anxiety and disappointment that Helen's Bakery caused me. Since my son was born I had this vision of what his first birthday would be like. Part of that vision was the cake. Unfortunately I trusted this bakery with the job of making his cake. I picked this bakery because it was close to my house and would be easy to go pick up the day of the party. I made the order on the phone with a young lady. I told her I wanted a white cake with whipped cream frosting and royal blue icing accents. I said the party was dirt bike themed so if they wanted to add a racing flag in the corner that would be okay. BIG MISTAKE. I NEVER asked them to decorate it or do anything else to the cake. I just wanted a sheet cake with royal blue icing borders. I had bought my own decorations. The morning of the party I went to pick up my cake and was horrified by what was unboxed to me. The decorator had drawn all over the middle of the cake. The drawing was of a multicolored dirt bike in faded orange, brown, and yellow colors on top of poop brown "dirt" and a happy faced sun in the corner. The girl closed the boxed and I smiled weakly. Perhaps it's not that bad I thought. Then she tells me $50. $50 for that? When I get home, I open the cake again and burst into tears. Not only were the decorations deplorable, but the handwriting of the person who wrote happy birthday was very elementary. I wish I could post a picture of the cake on here. I immediately called the bakery and spoke to a manager who offered to have me bring the cake back and they'd scrape the drawing off and fix it, but at that point the party was about to start. She then offered to leave a container of frosting in the front and someone could pick it up. So yes, for the first 30 minutes of my son's 1st birthday I spent it scraping off the horrific multicolored vomit dirt bike chicken scratch frosting to repair it with new frosting. The only positive thing to note was that the cake was good. What I found most interesting was that the manager on the phone told me that I was not the first person to call and complain about the terrible decorations on their cakes. Perhaps the person decorating the cakes should not be allowed to take such liberties ESPECIALLY when the client NEVER asked for decorations. No I do not want to a refund. I just want Helen's to know how much they ruined my son's birthday for me. Shame on you. read more

We also shared a donut appetizer, just a chocolate glaze. Should have gotten a Boston cream since the regular are a little on the dry side, but I think that's just the type of donut. Wow...I will be stopping in more often now...i always thought it was a bread shop... well it's alot more than that...yes fresh baked bread but.. they also have donuts, danishes, cookies, rolls, ring cakes, apple dumplings, Cheese and cinnamon sticks.. Helen's is an old-fashioned local bakery that has been in business for over 30 years. Nothing fancy, but good product at very reasonable prices. Has a coffee counter with the basics. No fancy breakfasts, but you can order bacon and eggs, a donut or a muffin and hang out with old-timers from the neighborhood. I ended up ordering some hermits and a couple of big chocolate chip cookies to go. Very tasty. The counter help was very efficient and helpful. Nice place to order pies or a special occasion cake. read more

Moved right down the street from Helen's so we had to stop in one morning! We both got bagels which were so fresh and delicious and iced coffee to go. Do wish they had an ice machine for iced coffee, but it's a little homey bakery with some seating for sit down breakfast. Their donut selection looked awesome! Can't wait to go back. read more

Excellent cakes! Ordered a 1/2 sheet cake for a birthday: yellow cake with buttercream icing. It was absolutely delicious and the entire family loved it. Simple breakfast of 2 eggs bacon and home fries hit the spot. My husband had a breakfast sandwich on a fresh bulke roll and he said it was one of the best sandwiches he'a had. The roll was grilled and delicious. While there we picked up some eclairs, white bread and bacon, egg, cheese bread. Apparently the bacon bread is a weekend treat at the bakery. IT IS A MUST TO GET!!! Toasted, plain whatever...amazing! The white bread went great with dinner last night and the eclairs filled with custard were light, fluffy and one of the best I have ever had. Updating my review regarding the best old fashioned donuts. Unfortunately, they are no longer to be found at Helen's. I don't know who made the decision to drop them from the menu of baked goods offerings, but the plain cake donuts which are now sold here are just plain awful. They are tasteless and boring in flavor and texture, and can't hold a candle to the originals, which had a crunchy exterior and luscious, lightly spiced interior. Bring back the old classic recipe! Otherwise, you are just like every other donut shop on the planet with their mass produced, below average, plain cake donuts. read more

Really enjoyed my first experience at Helens. They had a wide selection of breakfast foods and the girls serving behind the counter were very friendly and welcoming. Muffins were yummy and not huge so you can buy a few to get different flavors. My fiancé liked his breakfast sandwich. Overall great little neighborhood bakery! read more

Stopped in this morning for breakfast. First impression when I walked in was wow look at all this fresh baked goodies. I turn my head towards the dine in area and it's packed. One seat open so I make my way over. Everyone at the counter was joking and talking and you know it was the usuals. The person behind the counter was non stop moving but made everyone feel so welcomed. I ordered a chocolate milk and a grilled blueberry muffin. Had a little bit of a wait due to how busy it was and only one person doing the cooking and ordering. The muffin was delicious just wish there was s little more butter on it but it was fresh and loaded with blueberries. I will be back there for sure read more

Is it just me or has Helens quality of different pastry changed? I have gone there many years for pastry! Their danish rounds and birthday cakes. Lately the individual danish taste stale and their gingerbread frosted cookies shaped like cartoon characters are rock hard! Their birthday cakes are the same! The bagel was soft and delicious with the cream cheese. Well kept Mom & Pop Bakery. I'm not a local but this seems like the kind of place where the regulars gather in the morning to catch up on all the local goings on. I stopped in on a recommendation from the front desk clerk at the hotel I was staying at. Purchased Eclairs for dessert to bring for a dinner party. They were delicious! Went here today because it was near the house and it seemed like a calm place to eat. The ladies there were nice as it was our first time there, they gave us good service. However, my boyfriend went and asked to use the bathroom and they said they had no public restroom. This is a breakfast establishment that has customers dining in, you would think they would let you use their restroom if you were spending your money there. I'm not sure if it's because my boyfriend is black whatever the reason is, I Would not recommend and I am definitely not coming here again.
