Highly recommend Heleyna Holmes Photography for several reasons: First, she has been taking our family pictures for the past year in Seattle and we will continue working with her, even though we moved an hour south of Seattle. She first took our Holiday pictures in November 2009 at Greenlake on short notice after the rain cleared and was able to get so many great shots in just 30 minutes in the cold windy weather. We continued taking photos with her for 6 month family photos at Golden Gardens, 1 year old photos at UW, 1st Birthday party at Meridian Park, and Halloween mini session at Magnuson Park. We plan on scheduling this year's Holiday pictures in December 2010, maternity photos with the new baby on the way in January 2011, and newborn photos April 2011. Second, she's great with kids and husbands. I find it hard to get my son and husband to smile AND look at the camera, but Heleyna has the magic touch to get them to do both. She's great with kids, especially since she use to nanny and most importantly she knows how to get husband's on board with the pictures too. Third, she knows good locations in Seattle to take pictures. We've done photos at Greenlake, Golden Gardens, UW, Meridian Park, and Magnuson Park. I love the look of natural light photos, so it's worth the "wait and see" in terms of getting the weather to cooperate too. Fourth, Heleyna's work is always evolving. I used Heleyna for the first time to take newborn photos of my 2 week old son. She was very flexible in scheduling, which was greatly appreciated because we live an hour south of Seattle. She was also incredibly understanding when my son got sick and I had to reschedule our appointment on short notice. That took a lot of stress off of me. During the actual shoot, my son was less than cooperative and Heleyna just rolled with it. She was so calm and relaxed during the entire shoot; she allowed the shoot to run a little long so I could feed and change him; and her demeanor even convinced my husband to participate willingly (which is very unusual for him). Despite the difficulties my son presented, the pictures turned out AMAZING! She caught multiple shots that I would not have thought possible and had a variety of pictures for us to choose from. If all of this was not enough, she finished editing our photos in record time! As new, first-time parents, we were eager to see the pictures and her timeliness truly suprised us. I'm a photo fanatic, so I'm always skeptical when selecting a photographer. Particularly because I have a super active toddler and generally have a specific style in mind for a photo shoot before I even get to the location. Leyna exceeded all of our expectations. Leyna consults with all of her clients about what 'style' of photography they like, she asks all the right questions to ensure that the props she brings to a shoot match what we're wearing or what style of shots we want. She truly is a photography consultant. Days before our shoot she visited the site to make sure the lighting was right for the time of day we had decided on, then she recommended we start earlier for better light. As I mentioned before, I have a very active toddler. She has two young kids and knows exactly what to do to get the perfect shots every time, she has the patience of a saint. Plus, with her packages, you often get the images, which is an amazing bonus. I've used Leyna multiple times and recommended her to everyone I know. We knew choosing Leyna as our wedding photographer was the right choice from the start. Especially since everyone had told us that the day would fly by and the photos would be our best resource for remembering the day. I have had the pleasure of being friends with Leyna since high school. Not only is she a great person, but she is great with children and also a great photographer!
