What follows is my real life story on how I came to The Smile Mission. I live in Columbus, OH and was shocked after my annual dental exam and cleaning to be presented with three treatment plans. Plan one, 4 root canals and 16 crowns for an out of pocket expense of over $18,000. Plan two, snap in dentures for an out of pocket expense of over $23,000 or plan three, which was Zirconia Dental implant arches for an out of pocket expense of over $38,000. I decided to shop around and had many consultations that provided quotes for the Zirconia Dental Implants for $108,000, $ 55,000, $50,000, $45,000 and $42,000 in my area. I decided due to the cost I would check out state costs. I began researching different states and dental offices when I came across The Smile Mission located at 9900 SW 168th Street, Miami, FL 33157, Phone 786-701-8246. I sent them all the information and x-rays from my Columbus, OH primary dentist and The Smile Mission held a phone consult with me. I came out of the consult very impressed and since I had to be in Miami for a work conference the middle of June I decided to visit the office for a full exam and possibly move forward with treatment. I met with Dr. Michael Scott who agreed my best option was to extract my teeth and get Zirconia Implant Arches but he did present alternate options as well. I choose to move forward with the full upper & lower Zirconia Dental Arches. After phase one of my treatment I went back to Columbus, OH for the required 3 month healing period. During that time I checked in several times to provide updates on my healing and emailed a few times with follow up questions. My emails were always answered quickly and professionally to my satisfaction. I am happy to say that on September 13th I finished the last of Phase two which was the placement of my permanent Zirconia Upper & Lower Arches and I could not be any happier with the final results. The teeth look natural, feel comfortable and best of all the cost was a fraction of what I would have paid in Columbus, OH in fact I saved $19,000 from the quote I received from my primary dentist. I paid the full amount a few thousand dollars, through Cherry Financing, which meant the dental office was paid in full upfront, and I made my payments to Cherry. I want to point out that the doctor himself is very friendly and professional. However, I was repeatedly told by the office staff that the doctor is not in charge of pricing, billing, or deciding what is or is not covered under the treatment plan. That made it very frustrating because even if the doctor discussed my treatment with me, the office staff claimed his decisions did not determine what I would ultimately be charged. Halfway through my treatment, the office staff--who, unfortunately, were often dismissive and belittling--told me I owed additional money because the doctor had performed extra work. While the doctor did mention he would be doing an additional step, he never told me there would be an extra charge. If I had known beforehand, I could have made an informed decision. When I questioned the charge, the attitude toward me changed completely. Even the office manager, who had always greeted me before, stopped acknowledging me when I came in. Eventually, we reached a compromise where I paid only a percentage of the additional charge since I had never been informed of the extra cost in advance. To make matters worse, my final deep cleaning was never completed because the office claimed it was not included in my original treatment plan and that I would have to pay out of pocket. I showed them the original treatment plan, which I believed supported my understanding, but they still refused to complete the treatment without additional payment. My experience taught me to get every detail in writing and to ask specifically whether any part of your treatment could result in additional charges. The doctor was always kind, but the billing practices and the way I was treated by the office staff after questioning unexpected charges left me very disappointed.

I have mixed emotions about this office. The staff was great. The dentist I believe did not give…read moretruthful answers to a few concerns of mine. One being the size of crowns and shape. Said the lab could only go with the impressions taken and nothing could be done since they were so worn from grinding my teeth. I personally feel the lab can do anything but will cost you. I was asking if they could be a little bigger and give them a little definition. How hard is it to take the little tool and make a "x" in the molers and a few slashes to give some form of definition to the front ones? Instead they are smooth and roundish on the top portiin so they look a little like tiny white marshmellows that cost how much per crown? They were up in the $600 range times 6. The dentist before did 2 crowns on the lower teeth and reason for leaving was they somehow ended up as being bright white crown which were supposed to be to be B1's. Later for the lower partial that dentist wanted to change me an extra $150 to match the bright white shade and said that is what his lab charges him extra for the bright white shade. Hmm, I didn't get charged the extraa charge for the 2 crowns. I questioned that vs the shade of my upper temp. denture he did. Out came the shade charts. This time there were 3 charts being shown to me where as before only 2 were shown. I feel someine un the office ordered the wrong shade. Outcome, I found Premier as my new dentist. The bright white shade was mentiined during my 2st appointment. I also told them I needed suggestions when it came to selectung the shade for the upper permanent denture he would be doing. He did a great job and was very helpful to match that bright white shade with the 6 crowns he did. I feel while talking to someone face to face the lower teeth have a balance and don't jump out at you screaming and flashing neon white like they did before. I'm not happy with the work he did concerning my upper denture. The day that was supposed to be for adjusting the fit, shape and shade, I never was shown choices for the shade, mainly due to the confusion going on concerning the hugh gap 1/8-1/4" between the upper and lower teeth on my right side. None on that side made contact with the liwer teeth. He should have pointed that out as soon as he saw it and indicate he was not happy with the gap but he didn't. Maybe i wouldn't notice it. You would think it would go back to the lab. Instead he ended up with torch in hand and spent a long time lowering the teeth on the upper denture. 3 attempts and it was a lot better but still a slight gap. That for sure was not very cost effective; his vs the labs. He made that choice. It seemed like a rush job after I finally said I was OK with the gab to get me on my way. With all the confusion trying to adjust the gap going back and forth to that torch the several attemps the shade was not even addressed and I didn't remember to mention it. After getting the finished product several friends mentioned the difference between the upperband lower shades. They ended up being the same shade as the temporary denture and all that was mentioned during that 1st appointment. I emailed the office about the shade difference and even considered it to be partially my error because i didn't remember to mention it during all the confusion. I went as far as offering to pay for it out of pocket and asked if the price could be discounted due to not having a choice with the shade like I was told. I got no reply, I just got ghosted.

I have had about 5-6 adjustments up until about March 31 at 10:00, I arrived on time and was not taken for exactly 11:45, at which time I stated this was unacceptable and was told that was the best they could do. I have been complaining that in spite of all the adjustments every time I try to chew the dentures cut into my cheeks. Fast forward to April 3 I spoke to the young male at the reception desk who said they were having issue and he could not get me in for a couple of weeks. I am trying to refrain from going to BBB with a formal complaint. But suffice it to say I am very dissatisfied with their treatment and like a refund in full. By the way I have had dentures for over 60 years and never had any issues.
