Theres a nice play area and book shelf full of children books. Everyone is so nice too. Extremely disappointed with our experience at Hello Smiles in Oakley. My wife has a trained diabetic alert service dog, and we felt she was discriminated against because of her service dog's breed. Instead of treating my wife with dignity and understanding her rights as a person with a disability accompanied by a service animal, the situation was handled in a way that made her feel singled out, embarrassed, and unwelcome. What made the experience even worse was the way the doctor communicated with us. We felt the conversation was manipulative and dismissive, and when we tried to explain our concerns and my wife's ADA rights, we felt like the situation was being twisted around rather than addressed professionally. A medical office should understand the basic rules surrounding service animals and the ADA. People with disabilities should not have to argue for basic respect and equal access simply because someone has an issue with the breed of their trained service dog. We left feeling disrespected and extremely disappointed. I strongly encourage this office and its staff to educate themselves on service-animal laws and how to appropriately treat patients with disabilities. No patient should be made to feel this way while seeking medical care. read more

As my son got older and stronger, dental visits became increasingly difficult, and he would not allow anyone to check his teeth. I searched Yelp for a new pediatric dentist and am so thankful we found Dr. Kim. Dr. Kim is incredibly patient, which means so much to our family. In addition, Damaris, the dental assistant, is absolutely amazing and so patient with my son. Every time we come in for a routine visit, my son is paired with Damaris, and I truly appreciate that the office recognizes and respects that he has a preferred person. My son allows Damaris to do more than any other dental assistant we've encountered, which speaks volumes about her care and understanding. My almost 2 year old son had taken a tumble off his strider bike, resulting in 2 shattered teeth. We knew it was an urgent matter, however we were nervous with availability as it is literally the day before Christmas/Christmas eve! Thankfully, my dentist, Dr. Freitas, had referred us here to Dr. Kim. He immediately called me and spoke with me after seeing my son's teeth. They got us in just an hour later to see my son. Did X-rays, kept him comfortable (as you can imagine taking a 2 year old to the dentist...) The receptionists were welcoming and same with the dental assistants! They were very fast, caring and walked us through the entire process. Once it came to the extraction part, it was not pretty or easy, but they made the experience as good as pulling 2 front teeth from a toddler could be! They made sure he was cared for, and helped me understand recovery and what to expect. Overall, we had an amazing experience here and would recommend this pediatrics dentist to anyone looking. My daughter has been going there for years with no issues. Then they decided they no longer wanted to accept patients who were covered under dental, but we were told that doesn't reflect on the patients who already go there that have that insurance, so no problem. She has been to the dentist once a year for routine care; the last time we took her was last year for a routine appointment. Now they are saying they can't find those records, so they won't take her because of her insurance. It feels like they're doing this just so they can stop taking patients with our insurance without being straightforward and letting us know. Now my daughter is in pain because the filling they put in cracked, and I have to find somewhere else to take her. We expressed our concerns and let them know of our daughter's special needs. They did everything to make sure her teeth cleaning went smoothly. Offering glasses, headphones and talking her through and asking if she was alright. We came in for a filing but needed to have the cleaning done first to establish new patient. Came back in for a different treatment instead of a filing, the dentist gave us 2 options and my daughter chose not to do the drilling because she was traumatized. Highly recommend this office for children. Switch to this office last year and now my daughter looks forward to going to the dentist. When my daughter has her cleanings she gets to pick a movie and flavor of toothpaste. (they have chocolate and strawberry!) What I really love is that they talk my daughter through her cleaning and explain what tools are going to do what, they make her apart of the experience! We have been going to Hello Smiles for years now and have referred several other families in that time. As an adult, I have anxiety about going to the dentist and I didn't want to pass that onto my kids. It was important for me to find a dental office that specifically caters to children, because I knew it'd mean the dentist(s) and staff would likely be more patient and kind. Dr Kim and his staff are truly all I could have ever hoped for in pediatric dentistry and more! My kids have had routine cleanings, X-rays, fillings, and now even caps from Dr Kim. While watching my 6 year old get a cap on one of his molars, I even texted my husband telling him how I was so thankful we had Dr Kim because you can just tell how much he cares about 1) making sure our kids feel comfortable throughout any "procedure" and 2) making sure the job gets done efficiently and effectively without error. My husband even text me back "Yeah, I really like Dr Kim too" and he's WAY harder to impress than I am! Oh and I should mention the office itself. It is always so clean! They provide mini bottles of water in the waiting room, toys for kids to stay busy, and books plus a TV always playing the best kid movies. Every station has a TV on the ceiling too so your kiddo can watch their fav show while they're getting worked on. My kids say their favorite part is the TV on the ceiling and the balloon animals/swords they get when they're done! Dr. Kim and his staff are just absolutely amazing when it comes to the way they treat their patients. Our daughter is 2.5 years old and we brought her in for the first time when she turned 2. From the moment we walked in until she was seen by Dr. Kim, they made her feel at ease and at home. She wasn't too scared but did cry a bit during her first visit, however, the dental hygienist made sure to do everything she could to cheer her up.
