Ever since I found Yuna's salon, I can't go anywhere else. She's the top stylist in the Bay Area in my opinion. She's totally transformed the way I look, just with my hair alone. I constantly get compliments from people, asking where I go. People even go to her to fix their hair, after it gets messed up by another salon they went to in order to pay less. At other salons, even if I get the senior stylist, I'd always worry about how it will turn out. There'd always be one or a few things that I'd be disappointed by, and I'd have to wait a few weeks for my hair to grow out and hide it. With Yuna, I can literally just close my eyes and fully trust her skills. Other stylists usually get my hair to a basic level and do the same generic things they're used to doing. Yuna custom tailors my haircut and styling to me, paying close attention to the little details, how it looks at each angle, and what enhances my features. The best part is she also does finishing touch ups after shampooing, making sure the final results are perfect. Also, when I get perms or do both color and perm on the same day with other stylists, my hair would immediately be very dry and damaged for months. It would even be hard to style because it'd be so rough. But I feel like Yuna not only cares about how my hair looks, but also its health. She gives me advice for the long term health of my hair, she's like a hair doctor. And my hair is always left looking and feeling silky smooth. There are many stylists in the Bay Area that try to do Korean and Asian style perms and down perms, but nobody does them as well as Yuna. Her haircut, perm, color, and styling skills are on a level above. And she doesn't hand you off to a junior stylist either, you get her every time. Cool, okay. $670 $820: Day of, she says the perm is actually $600 because your hair is "bra strap length." That's... average length? $820 $979: Then she says you'll damage your hair without the add on treatment, and actually everyone absolutely needs it. If it's mandatory, why isn't it in the base price? $979 ~$1,200: Mandatory 20% tip. Look -- if this was a $1,200 service marketed as a $1,200 service, fine. But every single add-on comes after you've already put down $400 you can't get back. By that point you're locked in and she knows it. The work itself was fine. The pricing strategy is not. read more

I've been trying find the right stylist for me, and Yuna is the one! She really knew what to do with my thick asian hair and gave me great suggestions on what might suit my face. I came in with long hair (belly button length) and old grown out layers, so my hair felt pretty heavy. She gave me some long natural layers that gave it some movement but also still kept it feeling/looking full, and some curtain bangs/face framing pieces. This is honestly the best haircut I've had. Styles I've done with Yuna so far (across 4 years): - Basic cut, style and trims - Balayage - Peekaboo Service: I have been going to Yuna for almost 4 years now at the time of this post, from my first time for a simple haircut, to my first experience getting my hair colored through Balayage. Now as I become more adventurous with styles like Peekaboos, I trust Yuna more for her eye and recommendation on what looks good while being respectful of my preferences. She had also given me guidance on how to style my hair when I got my first haircut that involved super cute large curls! Every time I've gone in, she always asks for my opinions and confirmation on recommendations. And if I raise questions to her on whether I should go for a certain color, style, etc., Yuna has been able to work with me to make sure I get what I want and that I'm not asking for something that will make my hair disastrous :) Yuna also always offers me tea, coffee, or water whenever I go in as well, which was nice :) and Yuna is easy to talk to -- 3+ years of sharing stories of our lives lol Hair quality & results: Yuna gives the best hair wash massages :D! In all seriousness though, in my experience, my results were always amazing and exactly what you ask for or even better! Yuna knows exactly what chemicals and processes are involved in order to achieve the hairstyle I wanted. She has kept in mind things like what colors and chemicals will damage your hair or not (bleach, etc.) and made sure I knew what I was getting into -- even when it came to maintenance. For example, I started off first with a Balayage in brown and did not want to deal with heavy maintenance (no toning, etc) and I did not want to damage my hair in the process (no bleaching), as I was nervous about dyeing my hair since I've never done that before. Because of that Yuna, suggested starting off with certain browns to achieve that and I couldn't be happier! The hair came out super smooth, bright, and the results gave me some dimension (since my hair is considered thin). Ever since then, lighter browns as much as possible (for Balayage) without requiring bleach and results got better and better to my liking. Fast forward to today, I trusted Yuna's recommendation and bit the bullet on the Peekaboo and now I'm even more floored with the results! You can see in my photos the results, including a bonus transgression of what it looked like coming out of the salon to dunking myself in salty ocean water for a week and what that wash-out looked like. Every time I walk out of the salon, my hair is super soft and the results are great. Pricing: The pricing on some services do may seem high as it depends on what services you're looking at and that some services as itemized add-ons e.g. Olaplex to help protect your hair if you dye it (it's so worth it though!). But to be honest, the pricing actually seems pretty competitive to other salons for the same services which may or may not even bake in things like uses of Olaplex treatments. So make sure you confirm with Yuna the pricing before going ahead with her services. In the past when I come in, Yuna lays out the price before me after a quick discussion on what we're doing today and makes sure I confirm I'm good with the cost before proceeding. I very much enjoy that level of transparency. Conclusion: You won't go wrong by having your hair done by Yuna! I'm so so happy with the recommendation to check out Yuna!! She is so friendly and obviously experienced with different types of hair. Although not always an easy ask to go short, I was so happy with the collaboration we did to add layers and movement. It came out so much better than my reference pictures! My experience today was absolutely ridiculous. This place is a scam. I booked a magic straight on the website a month in advance and paid the reservation fee of $200. According to the website, the total was $500 for a magic straight perm. I came into the appointment expecting to pay around $400-500 (+$200 reservation fee) with potential additional charges. This morning I walked into the hair appointment, and was told magic straight perm does not include a trim. So I agreed to adding a hair cut. But even with a haircut fee of $200, I was quoted $1060 (+$200 reservation fee). The reasoning was that hair is "dense and thick." Yes, I have dense and thick hair but I have been getting this treatment and cut for ten years with a variety of hair stylists and I have NEVER paid more than $50-75 extra for my hair thickness. She charged me $500 extra when I arrived. Even with the extra hair cut fee, this is DOUBLE what I was quoted. THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN CLEAR COMMUNICATION that the perm is between $500-$1,000 DEPENDING ON HAIR DENSITY. Wtf? When I asked for just the hair cut to make up for the $200 reservation fee, Yuna laughed and refused. She stated that the only way to get my $200 reservation fee back was to move forward with the perm treatment, which would be $500 more than I was quoted. I think this place is a scam, has false advertising, and you should not book. I cannot believe I paid a $200 reservation fee for a $500 appointment only to be quoted an additional $500 when I showed up to the appointment because I have thick hair. read more

I honestly had such a great experience getting my hair cut by Yuna. The whole process was easy and relaxing and I definitely feel super satisfied with how my hair came out! I booked online about a week in advance (opted for a weekday cut since weekends were pretty full) for a cut only. I came in hoping for a good experience, as her price point is a little higher than the salons in my area, and it was my first time getting my hair cut at an actual salon. Yuna was super helpful and communicative. I showed her some pictures of hairstyles I liked, and she offered advice based on my hair texture and thickness. She was very thorough and detailed about laying out a structure for my cut, even suggesting things I hadn't considered, like invisible layers to add texture ($10 extra, but I didn't mind). It's COVID, what better time than now to experiment with your hair style? So I did some research and came to Yuna with a bob cut and some lightened colors in mind. I almost don't want to write this review because I'm worried that once people see how awesome Yuna is I'll never be able to get an appointment with her again! I made an appointment on a whim because I wanted to get my hair toned before the long weekend. I went in on a Thursday and when I was seated I was asked by Yuna what color I was expecting/hoping for. I had my hair bleached blonde a couple months prior so I expressed to her that I'd like to keep it blonde. She seemed a little hesitant and explained to me that she didn't think toning the blonde would be a good idea because my hair had a very harsh line between my natural black hair and the blonde. I was a bit shocked at first because the last stylist I went to put a lot of effort in getting my hair to be blonde but she reassured me that it was my decision and she would only be willing to do what I wanted/was most comfortable with. She gave me an in depth explanation of how toning hair works and was able to give me a plethora of options, she even showed me photos so I knew what she was picturing for my hair. I really valued the information and her opinion because I felt uninformed prior to her explanation. I ended up going with her recommendation and I am SOOOOO happy that I did because the whole weekend I received compliment after compliment on my hair from friends and family! Yuna is very nice and provides her opinion based on the state of your hair and your hair goals. I went in for cut and balayage. I have a lot of gray coarse hair so she recommended a cooler color than I originally imagined. She really took her time to blend my natural gray hair with the balayage. She also offered me half of her sandwich because the appointment was quite long. I love the style of the cut and she was very meticulous. I wish I could say that I loved my hair that I paid $600 for (which includes the 20% automatic non-negotiable tip that was required before even her starting on my hair). Something to note as it's not in her website or messages. Yuna prefers Zelle and cash but reluctantly allowed me to Venmo her. I did a root volume lift perm ($350, olaplex $150, self required tip). Would never recommend this if you have super fine hair. After one wash, the volume is pretty unnoticeable. She did mention this may happen to my hair, since I have very fine hair. So then I messaged her and she responded that the results were great when I left. Okay... I'll have to agree with the fact that there was some volume when I left, because otherwise that would mean she's incompetent. The root volume ended with a hair volume mousse and a blow dry to see the results. I was expecting to notice the lift from just air dry (as with other perms), but that's not the case. I did appreciate that she explained in detail how to maintain the perm. I wish she didn't leave a sour taste in my mouth, because I wanted to support a woman owned business. Plus she is super close to me. Like many others have said, she's not worth the high price point. And who automatically adds a 20% tip to him/her/themselves before the work is even done?! If she deserved 20%, then others would definitely tip her that amount, rather than her automatically adding it to the bill. I think that already speaks for itself. Because of this non-5 star review, I'm sure she'll probably comment and say to go find another hair dresser. I'd much prefer if people were honest about my work so that I could improve in the future... rather than tell them to essentially go take a hike when they don't give me a 5-star review. ETA in response to Yuna's 2nd edited response: I'm still not sure how criticizing me as a mom has to do with how my perm didn't withstand one hair wash?! As Yuna is aware, I am a content creator. I was video recording for my page on the root volume for my followers (as this is a trending hair treatment). I wouldn't have brought my kid except she was refusing to go to summer camp that morning, so I didn't have any other option (if I didn't want to pay extra for my appointment.) You really think I wanted to have my kid there while I spent $600 on my hair?! My daughter didn't write on your white drawers. I would never let my child do that. You were scared she would color on them, so I had her only use a pencil in her workbook. And she obviously didn't color on your drawer, because you would have already charged me for that! As previously mentioned, I did like my hair afterwards. However, despite following all of Yuna's instructions, the perm didn't last after just one wash. I am just stating my facts for others to be aware who also have fine hair. As a "senior" hairstylist, you should be forward with others who have fine hair too, instead of just pocketing $600 and knowing that the chances of their hair staying permed is slim. And you also knew my hair was bleached since I showed you a picture of my hair prior to coming and asked you for perm recommendations. Now you're asking me what you can do after initially responding to my Yelp review without such an offer, but rather a good luck on finding another hair stylist... that would have been a nice and a professional response (when I messaged you privately immediately after I washed my hair and noticed the perm gone, or right after my initial yelp review instead of bashing me as a mom). I initially thought perhaps you could have offered to redo my perm without charge. But I don't want you to do something awful to my hair out of spite. So any offer of a refund would be my next suggestion. I doubt anything would be resolved. Will update my review if I get such an offer. read more

Yuna has been cutting and coloring my hair for several years now and it's been GREAT! I have always been impressed by her advice and skills in hair cutting. I saw her twice this month, once to get my Covid hair into a more acceptable style (not cut for 20 months). She asked if I had any ideas and I told her I have no clue and would leave it all up to her. There is no regret in that decision. Second appointment was to dye my hair as I needed to cover my grays and again she asked if I wanted to go with the usual coloring or look for something different.
