After doing endless research on the best curly hair stylists in the Bay Area, I booked an appointment with Paul - I just got home from my haircut and I had to immediately write a review!! Not only was he warm and inviting, but demonstrated excellent attention to detail and listened carefully to what I was looking for. I have temperamental waves that want to be curls but also stay straight in weird areas, due to hair damage and using the straightener too many times. Every hair stylist I've been to, I ask plainly for details on how to style my curly/wavy hair, and hope that they will demonstrate every little step and write it out for me. They usually respond with hesitancy and end up blow drying my hair straight anyways. Not Paul!! He literally talked me through the entire process, gave me a mirror to look at what he was doing in the back, told me what products to use, techniques, etc. My hair has ringlets again, which I haven't had since I was a girl!! When I got home I wanted a little more volume on top so I did a quick blow dry under my roots to lift it, and the curls stayed in place nicely. Needless to say, I'll definitely be back. I delayed 6 hours as I was stuck in meeting hell at work, and rebooked after my spot got cancelled due to my radio silence. Keep in mind, good hair waits for no meetings in these times, especially as salons these days, if they are indeed open, are slammed with business requests. My before & after follows, though I got a bit overly heated in my car after so my selfie doesn't reflect 100% of that salon high polish, but trust me, this is a great cut by Eddie and it looks SO MUCH better than when I walked in looking like a fried, frazzled blonde beach bum. Eddie did an amazing job cutting my hair - I went in with an idea of what I wanted but wasn't sure if it would work well with my hair and face shape, so I asked him to use his judgement and expertise to figure out exactly how to cut it. I asked for bangs and he made sure I knew how much work they would be before starting to cut them; he also cut them long at first and then gradually shortened them until they suited my face, as well as blending them in until he was satisfied with the overall look. I absolutely love my hair and I have received so many compliments on it, both from people I know and from random baristas and cashiers! LANG AND PAUL ARE BOMB!! Warning: long story ahead I came in about a week ago for color and a cut. It was my first time at Reconnect, but after reading reviews for Lang and Paul, I felt confident I'd have a good experience. I have fine, very curly hair and I've found it hard to find stylists who know how to color or cut accordingly. Paul came over first and talked to me about what I was hoping for in a cut. I'm easy about my hair, I usually just want "whatever will look good", so he walked me through some ideas and we crafted a plan. Then Lang and I spent awhile talking about my color. I showed her an inspiration photo and we talked about what we both liked or didn't like. She was very straightforward about her thoughts and let me know where she thought the color in the inspiration photo might look too artificial and some workarounds for that. We agreed on a plan and she got to work! Through my time with both Lang and Paul, they kept an easy and friendly conversation going with me. I felt pampered and taken care of. Paul even gave me a bunch of tips on how to better style my hair, especially so I could wash it less often and revive my curls on days two and three. At the end, I was happy with the result. I wasn't blown away - it was exactly what I had talked about with each of them, but I found myself wishing the color was a little brighter, and the pieces around my face a little more sculpted. That said, I also wanted to give it a few days to wash and wear and see if I changed the way I felt. Well, what do you know, 24 hours goes by and I get a text from Lang & Paul! They literally felt the same way and insisted that I come back in to brighten the color and fix up the front pieces. I went back in and was absolutely blown away with the end result. It was bright and flirty, and Paul gave me more styling tips for wearing my hair straight or wavy. All in all, Lang & Paul made a lifelong customer of me. I'm actually glad my hair wasn't perfect the first time because it showed me how above and beyond the two of them are willing to go for their clients. Thank you Eddie! I have struggled with finding a hairstyle that works for me. (Mainly because I'm cheap, lazy and have pretty boring hair.) I generally go to Cost Cutters once I'm past the point of scraggly... surprisingly this has not resulted in a great style. I finally decided to go to an actual salon like a grown up. I read many reviews and finally reached out to Eddie. The reviews on him were spot on! I knew instantly he cares about his clients. He reached out to me for a phone consultation before our appointment and asked for pictures of my current hair as well as some ideas of what I may want.
