I called here needing a lymphatic drainage massage for post op care. I was scheduled a couple weeks out. On the day of my visit I was greeted as soon as I walked in. The lady in reception is super sweet and made me feel so welcomed. I was in a bit of pain and discomfort and she made sure I was comfortable when filling out my paper work. They also have goodies while you wait or for after the massage. (Snacks, tea, water) the environment is very relaxing and homey. I was greeted by Ellen and she also was very warm and understanding of my needs at the moment. She took her time in making sure I was comfortable and safe. Even though these massages are not relaxing she made me feel really good for the purpose of the massage. Ellen was very knowledgeable and also gave me tips for home that will help with the healing process. I will definitely keep coming here. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. I went in today with so much stiffness and knots in my neck, shoulders, back, and hips. When you have that many issues, massages aren't exactly fun and relaxing, but the end result is incredible. I'm a pretty tense person in general which caused the issues. I finally feel limber again and much more relaxed. Now I'm definitely going to start coming back here at least once a month for maintenance. In the last 40 years, I have had massages at some of the finest resort spas, as well as medical facilities, around the world and have searched throughout the last 14 years in Modesto for a consistent therapist I could rely on. I've had a couple of good ones but nothing extraordinary and definitely not consistent. I have severe TMJ, chronic neck and shoulder issues and have endured a few serious injuries that I use massage and acupuncture for increased mobility and pain management for instead of drugs. I can, usually, tell how long a massage therapist has been practicing within the first 5 minutes of a massage which is why I was SO surprised by TIM in my first experience at Helping Hands Massage Therapy in Modesto. 20 minutes in to his AMAZING massage he admits he recently graduated from a MT program just over 6 months ago, so, my immediate take on that was that he was just born with powerful hands and became an avid learner of kinesiology and muscle groups. I felt blessed to have his hands on me. He carved me up, so to speak, and attacked every single knot on my body, used the cool massage table to bend me in half and worked on my aching hips like I have never experienced. I had immediate increased mobility and, sure, I was sore but that was gone in less than 24 hours and I felt better than I had in years. ONE MASSAGE! Unfortunately, as I was probably overtipping him at the front desk, I go to make another appointment and was told that he was moving on to another place and I was crushed! But I thought, if he was so great, others here would be have to be comparable, right? So, I signed up for another massage and they assigned me to Sophia and was praying for two weeks that she was of the same caliber. Not.Even.Close. The disappointment was immediate and stayed with me throughout the 90-minute massage. I kept waiting for something, anything but what I got was a real "rookie" (just licensed less than a month ago!) who barely knew enough Swedish moves to have a massage routine but with no pressure. All of her moves were so 20 years ago that I actually felt sorry for her. I had to ask for a bolster for my ankles as I laid on my stomach in the beginning. I stressed that I needed neck, shoulder and extremities worked on and didn't get even close to that. No shoulder work, little neck attention and a lot of time long-stroking back with no definition. I had to tell her to pay more attention on my very sore right forearm that she had glazed over and was starting to wipe off with a towels as if "that was it" so I stopped and told her I needed a lot more work there. Suddenly, she gets some pressure and "discovers" a slew of knots, a few of which she rubbed out. But she never touched my upper arms and kept going back to the tips of my fingers to "flick" them for some reason which only annoyed me more. The foot massage was simply ridiculous, if you could call it that. It really sucks because Carol (the owner) is delightful at the front and the facility, as a whole, seems rather professional. But getting off the massage table, all I could think about was where I was going to look next on my quest for a decent, consistent massage therapist here in Modesto. read more

Helping Hands Massage & Aromatherapy is so fantastic. I would go twice a month if I had the time but never miss my once a month massage. I prefer the 90 minute massage because the masseuse can really get in there and work the muscles. I have a deep tissue massage so it is a tad intense but worth every minute. I come out with muscles relaxed and feeling 10 years younger. The best part other than the massage is the people who work there. Carol who is the owner with her husband is always pleasant, remembers my name and creates an atmosphere of calm which gets you into the mindset for your massage. Walking in you can feel a calmness and smell of essential oils. Carol checked me in and she was so kind. I met my therapist Afrena who was so kind too. It was my first massage ever and she explained the process and steps to ease my anxiety. The massage was amazing, I know I fell asleep for a bit and was totally relaxed at the end of my session. She stretched and massaged part I never realized needed it and just had a baby so my body felt so good.
