They send in four guys, two of whom I said to at the top of the move "hey, thanks so much for being here but we have additional friends as well, and planned this all out very specifically according to two additional hands for two hours, and I'm not able to compensate you anything further than what I agreed upon with your boss already." They shrugged and said "oh that's totally fine you don't have to pay us, we're just here to hang out." They were young, probably 17, and it was Easter (that was another thing that rubbed me the wrong way - we didn't wanna move on Easter but had to move that weekend and they don't work on Saturdays (totally great!) but I said on the phone to the boss, Darryl, "I guess your guys don't celebrate Easter" and he just sorta awkwardly chuckled. Now that I know he's pocketing most of the money and not moving a single box himself, I don't think he's an honest or equitable boss, but what do I know right?) and I thought they just wanted to hang with their friends. So I didn't force them to go... well then at the end of one hour, I get an angry call from their boss asking me to pay more. I explained to him all of the above, and he said well since you have four men for 1 hour, you have to pay more. And then when I told him I couldn't, that's not what we agreed upon or what was in the email confirmation I received, etc. he told them all to leave in the middle of the move, after only one single hour, with the truck still full on the street. Scam, scam and scam. I reviewed their contract disclosure on the website just to make sure I'm not in the wrong, and our email confirmation throughly to see if they do hold the right to change the number of people or hours at their own discretion at any point, and at no point in the written documentation does it say they hold the right to do that. This company is dishonest and I do not recommend them to anyone. Further, the guys really didn't pack the truck with care or any logical way. Threw things in diagonally and not in a spacially-economical way. That's a smaller thing, but something I feel real pro movers wouldn't do. However, they were nice guys. Daryl and his movers seem like nice people. But sounding nice isn't enough to make a good moving company. Here are some of the issues I had with my move last month: MAJOR: - They lost an important part of my bed. So when they realized this, they went rummaging through the trash to find something that could replace it. They tried using a piece of metal but my bed still wobbles tremendously. - They didn't use protective blankets or bubble wrap for my furniture so there are scratches on it and even two dents on my desk. It's cheap ikea furniture, but I still paid for it. They should do a better job. -Daryl gave me a certain estimate. The move took pretty much the amount of time he predicted it would. Plus some more because they lost a part of my bed and spent time trying to fix it (Although Daryl detracted one hour for that). However, he charged me over $200 above the upper end of the estimate range. What is the use of an estimate then? I only went with them because their estimate was lower than others. - At the end of the day, Daryl emailed me my invoice and then the movers stood outside my door until Daryl received the payment. Apparently, Daryl is very strict about this. I understand wanting to receive the payment. But you've emailed me the invoice, and I can respond to the emaI've never had another moving company stand outside my door and call me every five minutes until they got the payment. I think its unprofessional, rude, and simply, quite bizarre. MINOR: - They started ringing my doorbell and calling me early in the morning over an hour before they were scheduled to come. I got woken up really early. Then, I called them on the dot at the time they were actually supposed to arrive, and they were filling up gas. It was super annoying. - I think they worked a lot slower than other movers. I was moving a one bedroom apartment (a few boxes and a few pieces if small furniture). They were nice and made a lot of conversation. it's nice to have friendly movers but not at the expense of a longer and pricier move. - On the day of the move, it was very hard to get in touch with Daryl. - Before the move, even though Daryl responded to texts, sometimes I had to send him multiple reminders to email me something or respond to a question I had asked. He eventually did it and it's a minor point- but, it's such details that separate a whatever from a good and reliable business. read more

Terrible all around. First, Arrived 3 hours late after the given 2 hour arrival window. (8-10am window, arrived around 1pm). Second, destroyed some of my furniture. See attached photos. Looks like the people dragged one end of my furniture across concrete as the finish was completely removed. The top of one of our nightstands was gouged like it was dragged across metal. Other furniture was broken in parts. We have to replace these parts now. The movers did not take care with our stuff. All of the damaged furniture was brand new at our place. Our brand new mattress was in a plastic bag and although it was raining, it looked like the movers dragged the taped end of the bag through the puddles on the ground rather than carry it. The mattress is stained yellow on that end. Thankfully they arrived with a smaller truck that couldn't fit all of our furniture so a lot of furniture was safe. Please believe every one star you come across for this company. smh I was honestly tired of looking and settled on them bc of the good reviews I came across on google. i see you gotta dig deep to find the bad ones. They were completely unprofessional. I asked them to help with a bolt in my sons bed that ended up being a disaster and the bed was destroyed. They were not able to finish the job in a timely manner due to constant disagreements and ended up leaving some of my furniture in the living room that should of been in my bedroom. There was a guy screaming mad bc the lady with them told him my furniture needed to be wrapped AFTER they put it on the truck smh I have screws missing, one of the guys left with my bolts and I had to pick them up from him. A piece of my bed was missing and I reached out to them about it they assured me they didn't have it but after going back to my old apt to check I ended up reaching out again and guess what they did have it and guess what I had to wait days for them to bring it back after I told him (Darryl) my bed was unstable to sleep on! There were scratches on my bed frame and nightstand because they were supposed to wrap my stuff before putting it on the truck and did not do that. He offered me $40 for Mr clean to rub the scratches off and get a stain pen. They quoted a time of 12:53 that they began but they began a little after 1 pm and I was in the phone with a friend from 12:40 until the end of her break which was 20 minutes and after I ended the call with her I told her I would go outside to get them. I complained about all of this to owner DARRYL and was treated as if I was the headache when I requested to have my money back. I see him very nasty in review comments talking badly about ikea furniture and no matter where it's from it should be treated with the upmost respect and while my bed set was not from ikea this man sent me $40 for damages and told me to buy Mr clean and a stain pen!! smh screws missing to the bed and dresser drawer. I do not typically write reviews, but this company is an absolute nightmare to work with. Darryl seems nice when you first talk to him on the phone and the company appears well-managed, but when it came down to the day of my move, I was lied to, told by the actual movers that my apartment was a "low priority" for the day, and services were never rendered as agreed upon. I waited first for 1.5 hours after our agreed upon start time of 10:30 am for someone to show up, and after calling and texting Darryl ended up carrying all of my belongings down two flights of stairs with my parents and packing the truck ourselves. A good Samaritan walking by offered to help us and probably did a far better job than this company ever could with assisting us with loading the truck. I finally received a call that the movers I had hired were ready to assist me at 2:55pm, 4.5 hours after they were originally expected at my apartment and far outside the agreed upon 3 hour window. My move was across multiple states and still marked as low-priority by Helping Hands Philly. To say I am disappointed and angry is an understatement. Since blowing off my move, Darryl has ignored multiple texts, emails, and calls I have made to try to rectify the situation. I saw an ad on Craigslist for Helping Hands Philly Movers and called to price a moving job. The communication and professionalism of the owner was excellent during scheduling. The website is up to date and trustworthy. We worked together to determine what service was best for me. I received a confirmed the day of the appointment and was even offered an early time. I wish the confirmation came early because I had left a few messages leading up to my appointment to make sure we were still on and didn't get a response back. They showed up promptly, were polite and efficient. They were very careful with my items and worked quickly. Darryl emailed me twice to move the date with the last email coming after midnight less than 12 hours before my scheduled move. However, I had to be out of the house within 24 hours and I was forced to cancel with them and find/hire someone last minute. I realize that it was one of the busiest weekends to move but shifting around the date TWICE caused utter chaos with my move and I am still paying the price. Best case, you could say that I did not have a very good customer service experience with Helping Hands. I hired 4 guys for 2 hours. I have never hired a moving company before, so I was a bit nervous. Robert contacted me when they were going to be a little bit later than anticipated because of the uhaul place not opening until 9. They showed up at the decided time and began to work. Everyone was very nice and quick. They were extremely careful with my furniture (way more careful than I would've been with my cheap IKEA furniture that has already been damaged). They wrapped my TV and mirror with blankets and packed them into the truck strategically. The guys unloaded into my new apartment very fast and were cautious going up a winding staircase to the second floor. Darryl followed up with an email asking how they did shortly after I was in my new apartment. Overall, a great experience ! read more

Darryl was a breeze to work with in setting up our move only 3 days before. Our movers (Darnell and Malik) were prompt, communicative, and conscientious with our stuff (with a few minor exceptions...the only things that broke were pretty cheap to begin with...nothing that can't be easily fixed with a little glue). They had a really great work ethic and a positive attitude, especially since our move day ended up being 90 degrees, 99% humidity with several torrential downpours. The price was flat and reasonable, we got done in exactly the amount of time that was the low end of our estimate, so our deposit covered the entire move, including the Yelp discount he applied (not including the tip that Darnell and Malik easily earned by lugging our stuff in the rain) down two flights of stairs and back up two more. Would recommend. Don't be put off by the snooty reviewers who don't realize that movers are HUMAN. You have to help, you have to be directly involved, and you have to recognize that you are ultimately responsible for your own stuff. Not just as an aloof supervisor with a clipboard in one hand and a cocktail in the other, but with hands-on engagement with the entire move. They used protective blankets, bubble wrap, and cling wrap for everything that needed it. No clue what these primadonnas are talking about...my experience was quite different. read more

Darryl and his team are personable, polite, and hard workers. They were low-drama...which helped minimize any stress on our part. He was very direct about pricing, his rates are reasonable, and he worked (for us anyway) on a fixed price basis that was maybe overly fair to us...and he didn't quibble. Oh my gosh, Darryl! (I didn't forget about you!) I am so grateful for Darryl's prompt, thorough, crazy kind, exceedingly helpful service! When I decided to move within my apartment building, several other local movers either balked at only moving me five floors and blew me off or they quoted me crazy ridiculous, why-would-I-need-a-moving-truck prices. Darryl called me almost as soon as I hit send on my initial inquiry, locked in a date with a rate that was so good I almost thought he was a family member. He checked in before moving day and showed up promptly with 2 ready-steady associates (I'm so sorry I don't remember their names, they were so awesome and funny!) who made quick and easy sense out of my mayhem. It was a partial move; I really only needed these guys to move all of my big and heavy stuff--treadmill, dressers, sideboard, chairs, mattresses--and they did it well under the 2 hours I'd initially proposed. I mean, from the reviews you can gather that they'll do whatever you need in and around your home, even if it's just moving one thing or removing stuff you no longer want. They got rid of my terribly decrepit sleeper sofa and an old box spring, and moved those items with the same gentle awareness that they moved everything else. Bonus: the removals were included as part of my overall fee! When they were done, they were still looking for other ways to help. What can I say, I was in the closing hours where you just start shoving ish into bags and boxes--disorganized doesn't begin to cut it. But I was so grateful that they were even willing to help me pack more things so they could move them, and they were jovial, upbeat and efficient throughout. I'm really impressed by their go-getter, get-it-done hustle, and the fact that they all were so gracious and kind, but especially Darryl. It went AWFUL! Not only were they 45 minutes late, they forgot the protective plastic wrap to protect the furniture. They told me they rushed out and forgot it. This was just the first thing that went wrong. The talked the entire time and told me how unorganized the company was. While trying to move a bakers rack up from the basement, they put holes into the walls, scratched the banisters and put marks all over the walls. When I spoke to the owner 'Daryl' he said that it would be a $50 repair tops (he never saw it) and that he would not entertain a discount (even after sending him the photos of the damage). I assured him that I would not pay until it got resolved. After I wrote Daryl and email explaining the damage, he wrote back (2 weeks later) saying that I was rude and I rushed the movers and told them to get the wall unit up anyway they could. It has been over a month and I STILL haven't heard back. I have since hired a contractor to come in and fix the damage that was $483 (not $50)! WORST experience with movers I have EVER had! 9/12/2016 UPDATE Daryl, I NEVER spoke to you during the whole time with the situation of the bakers rack being moved when it was happening. There was no hole before they started moving the Bakers rack. YOU NEVER SPOKE WITH ME AT ALL UNTIL AFTER THE MOVE WAS ALMOST FINISHED so that is a 100% lie! The movers who moved the bakers rack into the basement in the first place, had no problem moving it. Only after your movers got it half up the steps and got it stuck to the point where they had trouble moving around it did they say anything! You think it is appropriate to leave a piece of furniture in the middle of a stairway because they couldn't move it correctly? I told them it had to be moved in upside down. The 6 inch scuff marks you speak of are a total lie as well! I sent you photos of the holes, damage to the banisters and ceiling. I in fact will post the photos from that damage that I sent you! You said you would be sending me an invoice... 2 months later.... NOTHING! It has taken you 3 weeks at a time to get back to me about this situation. I had to hire someone since you lack in communication to fix the damage, which again was OVER $400! You are correct about one thing, I contacted you 4 times and you responded weeks later with emails about my troubling tone and completely ignoring that the movers had done a poor job and you as a business owner not following up. Again, YOUR employee spoke to me about the disorganization of your company and how bad it was! You did absolutely NOTHING to ensure a positive experience. You actually did the complete opposite. The guys did a great job! They were personable and efficient. I moved into a 1-bedroom third floor walk-up and they completed the entire move in 1.5 hours. One of the workers was late - possibly went to the wrong address based on a comment he made - but the other worker was timely and moved items while awaiting the other's arrival. One box was dropped during the move by accident and one worker asked me to open it to inspect for possible breakage. His interest in the protection of my belongings was appreciated. read more

I would give Helping Hands a 4.5 if I could. Pros: Darryl is incredibly responsive whether by email, Facebook, or phone. He makes you feel important. He's also very kind and introduced himself to my family as well. The other two lead guys were also very polite. The price was reasonable and they are upfront w pricing. They rented and drove the truck so I didn't have to worry about that. They gave me break on having things in bags, which a lot of movers dont allow. No one complained about working in the rain. Or my leaking apartment roof. They disassembled and reassembled the bed for me. Cons: A media cabinet did get broken (the door) and no one mentioned it, but they did have trainees that day, so it could have been from that. They didn't having moving blankets w them. I think this was more because the truck was rented instead of the one they normally use. The yelp page needs updating w terms of payment. Overall, I would book them again. Darryl was super friendly from the get go, agreed to help move with a short notice period (something like 3-4 days?), and the two guys he brought along with him were so funny and chill (in a very positive way!) that it took out the stress of moving alone A LOT. Showed up early too! Customer service was A+++. I had a very specific service request which consisted of going to 5 different locations to pick up 5 different pieces of furniture and Darryl was not at all annoyed by it and offered a very good price for the move. They were also very reasonable when hiccups occurred. For example, a study desk I was getting was half disassembled by the seller and thus a wood panel didn't bear weight when used to lift the table and broke off from the main part of the table while it was being moved out of the house and onto the vehicle. Chris (one of the associates), apologised sincerely, immediately used his tools to fix up the table and checked to make sure I was okay with everything/ if he could do anything else for me/ took very great care to make sure to hold the table in a specific way so it's half-disassembledness didn't cause any more incidents. I'd definitely recommend these great movers for any job! Especially for students living in university city. They are very reasonably priced, okay with wierd requests (as a result of buying random pieces of furniture from graduating seniors), and they make moving stress-free and even fun. read more

My boyfriend and I had to unexpectedly move out of our South Philly apartment to another one. We moved what we could ourselves, but there were limits, such as large pieces of furniture. Darryl was able to accommodate our very small moving window. He showed up with help and a huge uhaul. He was late due to another job that ran over, but he more than made up for that with his unwavering positive attitude, efficient and no nonsense moving style, and was more than happy to move more things than we had originally put on our list. When furniture wouldn't fit through doorways and awkward stairwells, he didn't try and try and bang up our walls (as previous movers have done). He took apart what needed to be taken apart then put it back together for us. To top off a great service, he gave us an incredible deal, more than 50% less than any other movers we have used (and we have had to move yearly for the past six years)! Helping Hands movers were fantastic! This was a big move for me and I was nervous going from a five bedroom house to a two bedroom apartment. They arrived on time and Im all communication prior to the move was seamless. Being nervous, I reached out to the moving manager a couple days before and he fielded all of my concerns and reassured me that all would go well. And indeed, it did. Robert and his team were pleasant, kind with my belongings, and so skillful in packing it in the truck carefully. I felt very taken care of and really appreciated how warm and caring the team was. Called them a few days before my move and they were able to squeeze me in. Arrived on time/early for my move from Philly to dc, and the two people who came (I wish I remembered their names) were wonderful- very helpful, efficiently, and kind. They quickly disassembled and wrapped my furniture, loaded it in the truck and moved it to DC. There was a mix up with the service elevator in Philly but they were very flexible With the needing to take two elevators. They then Made a very efficient drive to dc and unloaded incredibly quick once there. I'd recommend them to anyone and would use them again. You'll talk to the owner to schedule everything and he's very responsive. You pay everything up front and will pay upfront for any additional time that is needed in hour increments (but they will refund in 15 min increments). The only thing (not really a problem) is that when the movers got to dc there was about 15 min left on the move and the owner texted me to prepay for the next hour. He was very insistent and would not believe me when I said I explained why it could be done in about 15 minutes so I pre payed the hour. It took about 15 min to unload. He quickly refunded the remaining time but that was the only tense moment of the move. Overall good experience and would use again! read more

For starters, this "company" is not legit & I found out the hard way after Daryl tried to hold my stuff hostage until I paid. NO JOKE. After contacting the PUC, this company is not even authorized to move in the PA area. Call the PA Public Utility Commission & see for yourself that this company is not registered! So let me begin on what I would like to say was the WORST EXPERIENCE in moving ever! Did you type in your google search for a cheap moving company in philly area & did helping hands philly pop up? Yup, me too. I looked at their website & checked out reviews that seemed good. Well after reading them again, it is quite clear now that they are likely fake reviews. But anyway, I went on the website & went to schedule a booking to receive a quote. Did you book this company because his quote seemed on the cheaper side? Yup, I did too! BIG MISTAKE! I wish I would have read up on the red flags that are clearly stated on the FMCSA website when searching for a legit moving company. It states that "Rogue movers typically work like this: Without ever visiting your home or seeing the goods you want moved, they give a low estimate over the telephone or Internet. Once your goods are on their truck, they demand more money before they will deliver or unload them. They hold your goods hostage and force you to pay more -- sometimes much more than you thought you had agreed to -- if you want your possessions back." Unfortunately, I wish I could say this didn't happen to me but it did. I received a low quote which is what enticed me to book with them in the 1st place. However, I had to contact him & run through the items that were going to be moved. If I had not done that, I wonder if Daryl would have ever contacted me to discuss the move. It didn't really help much because the 2 movers (who by the way were very nice & I do not blame them at all) showed up in a small Penske truck. After stressing to Daryl for a bigger truck to move my belongings, he could care less that his movers would have to take multiple trips? Who wants to make two trips? I don't. So again, I do not want to blame the movers but clearly if they had a bigger truck, then they would not spend so much time packing it to the brim where things got damaged. We finally were on our way to the new destination after 6 hours. At this time, YOU SHOULD RECEIVE INVENTORY. Read his terms and conditions. I did not receive anything! Once we arrived at the new place, I started receiving invoices of the bill & to my surprise was A lot more than we had discussed. Not to mention, the movers were not even done yet. I contacted Daryl and tried to ask why I was being charged for so many hours when we did not agree to this and if they had a larger truck, they would not have spent so much time trying to fit everything so they can make one trip only. Well as I said before, he does not care about his employees & insist you pay full invoice before the movers leave. Hmm, okay well Mr. Daryl quoted in the PUC brochure "If the actual bill exceeds the estimate by more than 10 percent, you do not have to pay the full cost on the day of the move to get your household goods. We as consumers have up to 15 days to pay that invoice." Were you aware of that Daryl? No. So moving on.... I started to discover ripped furniture, broken knobs, ripped couch, storage closet had a broken leg. It doesn't even stop there. I immediately contacted Darryl about the damaged items & his response was they will reimburse for damaged goods if they were noted in good condition on the inventory? WHAT INVENTORY??? Never received it. He goes on and insist that the invoice is paid in full before the movers leave. I'm sorry, I am trying to get over the fact that stuff is damaged right now and I have a ton of boxes that are not checked yet. The last thing I want to be told is cough up money when you have damaged items. After telling him that he was unprofessional & I will not pay any remaining amount until I check every item, he completely crosses the line. He continued to harass his movers to make sure he got the remaining payment & told them to drop everything, "f**k her", just leave. He then told them to hold my stuff hostage until I paid the rest. Well thankfully the movers had a heart and were able to drop everything in the house. No, nothing was reassembled or even put in the proper area but better to have it in my hands then their truck. At first I thought this was a good company, workers were very friendly. When I made my reservation, I added the additional service to make sure my furniture was padded/wrapped. None of it was, and it turns out this company did not take good care of our belongings. We are missing the bottoms of our couch and they ruined the screen on our 65 inch TV. When I reached out to the owner regarding our broken/missing possessions he pretty much said "oh well, were not responsible." DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. It might be less expensive than other moving companies but they do not provide the service they advertise. read more

Please NEVER use this service. They are unprofessional and just horrible. They will destroy your stuff, steal your money, and not pay back. Absolutely scam. PLEASE stay away and you'll save yourself a lot of pain. The job: Move stuff into storage for two months, then bring it back to a new place. Move to storage: 1) Had requested packing materials, the crew showed without any saying the owner Darryl Brown never told them 2) They manhandled the equipment, dropping things along the way and damaging others 3) They forgot to load some of my boxes , I contacted Darryl multiple times, but he never came back to pick these up despite promising to do so. Don't believe a thing that comes from this guy's mouth. 4) I had to pack the fragile items myself -they didn't have any materials 5) They arrive 4 hrs after scheduled time and don't even update me about the delay 6) They charged $508 for this service, an atrocious amount given the quality Move back: 1) They arrived with no clue about the job, the crew didn't have any of my stuff 2) They went to get the stuff and then called me and made me wait for hours saying the storage place would not let them collect my stuff 3) They come back and have destroyed my TV, side table, 3 plates, hangers, have nicked my center table, destroyed the handle of my dresser 4) Completely manhandled equipment 5) Demanded I pay up using cashapp $775 this time and didn't even refund me for the TV 6) The horrible owner ignores my texts and calls I need to be compensated for the loss of my equipment. I have pictures to prove damages and screenshots of payments to these people. PSA: never use this service, even if it costs you more, pay for a better service. Helping hands was hired recently for 2 moves. the first was a small - a one bedroom apt and although they were two hours late, the move went well, a little over the estimated time but nothing terrible.Based on this move we contracted 3 weeks later for another move. The second move was for a 3 bedroom house and for anyone who absolutely needs to be out on that moving date,beware. The original time given was a three hour window from 10am-1pm. Then it was moved to 2pm, then it was moved to 3-3:30pm, then it was moved to 4:30pm and they finally arrived at 5:30pm. Each time they changed the arrival time they said, no problem we'll get you moved. They pulled up the block in a 20ft truck. There was no way the furniture would fit and the movers at the scene agreed. The owner said they "don't own a 26ft truck" and "cannot control the size of the truck Uhaul provides us with" so in effect they knew from the very beginning of the contract they didn't own a truck large enough for a 3 bedroom house and they knew the morning of the move that Uhaul could not provide them with a 26ft truck. Yet they continued to string us along the entire day. Their solution? to start loading the truck at 5:45pm and fill it and drive 50 min to the new destination, unload, drive back, reload and drive back and they were going to charge us for half the additional driving time! as if it was our fault they didn't have a truck large enough to move the furniture. At this point it would have been 1am at the earliest before this move was completed. We cancelled and the owners comment " we arrived to your house and were ready to help despite the day was not perfect". Not perfect??? It never happened. You lied to us consistently during the day about arrival time and your ability to get us moved. We contracted with Ryan movers 2 days later, they arrived on time with a 26ft truck and everything fit and was moved in under 5 hours. If looking for a mover for something large than a one or two bedroom, I'd look elsewhere. read more

Helping Hands arrived at 530 at my son's house when they were supposed to arrive between 10am-100 and with a truck way too small. Said they could do the move but would charge extra for the additional trips even though it was their fault that the truck was too small. Never even offered to come back the next day with the right size truck. Based on the other reviews of them destroying walls and furniture, maybe it was a good thing we didn't use them. Very annoying and frustrating to not move on "moving day" with babysitters on hand and out of town family here to help!! read more

I used them for a local move ( 3 men + truck) and I am so so pleased with them ! Arrived on time. constant communication when they were heading over. Wrapped furniture with shrink wrap and were very careful about moving things both big/small. They made good time and were very professional in getting things done. Very organized when loading the truck, this meant less worry about things damaging while moving. Two big things to be noted, 1.I had a couch which turned out to be a pain while unloading in my new apartment, my movers were so helpful and tried every trick to get the couch inside when I was feeling very hopeless. 2.Communication with Darryl was excellent, from the time I requested a quote until end of move. He was always just an email/call away. There was a detailed questionnaire sent out so all details are covered and there are no surprises. Their process for this was very efficient. I purchased the yelp deal, also a deposit is required to secure both your time and date for the move. I would definitely use them for my future moves and very happy to spread the word to friends and family. I would urge anyone looking to move to get in touch with Darryl first, this was also one of the cheaper quotes I got where I wasn't paying a huge travel fee for the movers. read more

In short, you get what you pay for. And what I got was a busted 50 inch TV screen. Worse than that, on being asked what he could do about it, Darryl tried to show as if he was giving me a discount on 2.5 hours of labor which I knew was a lie. Apart from that, a driver was replaced midway for "unsafe driving". They were also late by one hour to start. I had specifically asked Darryl if they transport a TV safely without a box and he said we will wrap it well and transport it just like they were transporting my glass dinner table top. I did not expect the TV to be wrapped with a single blanket with room left for it to move around in the truck. The least they could have done is bubble-wrapped it. About the lying: As per Darryl's own estimate, I had booked and prepaid for 4 hours of moving service and two hours of driving the truck (Total 6 hours). On the day of the move, the service started a 11 am and ended at 6.15 pm (Total 7.15 hours). At the end when I asked Darryl what he could do about the TV, he said that I am supposed to pay for an additional 2.5 hours of labor involved in driving on top of the two hours already paid for, and now because of the busted TV, he would generously waive it off. I did not have the energy to argue on the phone after a hectic day of moving. In all online estimates of movers, they do not have extra labor charges for driving the truck in addition to the travel fee itself. You might have noticed a mismatch in the number of hours in the earlier paragraph. That is where the unsafe driving comes in. The drive from my old place to new place was supposed to take 2 hours. But it took 3.5 hours. I reached by my car in 2.5 hours. I waited for some time and then called Darryl to ask where the truck is. He told me that one of the two helpers had to be taken off duty due to unsafe driving. He was replaced midway and that took approximately 45 minutes. Darryl said he would not charge me for those 45 minutes. They arrived one hour later than the time decided upon but that is not a big issue to me personally. The movers are cheap and nice to talk to. But when it comes to competence, they are definitely found wanting. I would not recommend it to a friend. read more
