They showed up unprepared for my move with a small truck. They ruined my mattress by not wrapping it in the mattress bag that I provided. Almost every piece of furniture they moved for me was scratched or damaged. They caused several instances of property damage to my home in the moving process. They accused me of lying and were incredibly disrespectful when I reported my concerns. Would not give me their DOT number to file an insurance claim. They never made any attempt to rectify this situation. I will be reporting them to the BBB and the DOT. Beware of dishonest business practices.

I was really disappointed with my movers. They took five hours to move from my one bedroom apartment to another, granted they were third floor apartments but I had caught them taking long breaks several times. They also told me that they were unable to move liquids because it wasn't allowed in the van It seemed to me that they were dragging out the time since they knew this was an hourly paid service. They also broke my smart TV and refused to get me a new one as the insurance covers only 60 cents per pound. They also scratched up some of my furniture and my bed frame as well. The only reason am giving any stars is because they were very responsive and communicative. They refunded me $200 because of the scratched up furniture, tv, and the time it took for the move. Update: the owner had reached out to me because he felt bad about what had happened. He told me he would replace the tv and asked me to send him some tvs that were the same size and reasonably priced. I sent him a few and followed up several times with no response. Definitely disappointed . Should've never reached out in the first place.

This is my second time using this company for a move & I cannot say enough - they were fast, efficient, and accommodating to any of our needs during the move. This was a first move from apartment to a house and felt very stressful - but this company and the movers really made it 100x easier. We were moved-out & moved-in in less than 2 hours. So thankful!!

Wide hallway, small cart. How does this happen?

Have never felt the need to leave a review before, but changed my mind for this one after attempting to come to a reasonable resolution with my experience using Man with a Van. Short version: Crew was scheduled for 12-2pm on a Saturday. Arrived at 5pm. Poorly handled the cargo and caused damage to the walls at the destination with a drawn out move. Repeated attempts to speak on the phone and via email to come to a resolution met with frustration and hostility. Card was charged anyway. Long version: Mistakes happen, jobs run late, crews get tired. I understand and was prepared to make sure I did everything on my end to make sure this process went as smoothly as possible: parking permit for a busy street on Saturday afternoon and reserved freight elevator for the destination. Due to the crew showing up at 5pm for a 12-2pm window, those efforts were meaningless and a lot of time was wasted looking for parking and taking multiple elevator trips. A crew of 3 guys showed up exhausted from their day. I know because they were frustrated and made it apparent to me immediately that it wasn't their fault that they were late and they were going from a job in Brooklyn to Jersey to Philly now before having to head back at the end of the night. I get it and that sucks. I offered water, helped move, whatever I could do. On a first glance assessment, one of them estimated a half hour for the first part of the job. I was in a studio apt with 15 boxes and a queen mattress along with some smaller furniture, nothing over 50lbs. They played tetris in their truck with no blankets or mats for the furniture and a complete disregard for boxes labeled fragile. Only one guy ever moved anything at a time. Another took a shit immediately upon arrival and I don't even want to think about how he cleaned up because there was no toilet paper or towels available. And if you're concerned about COVID, masks were pulled down to the chin after the first five minutes. At the destination, the crew somehow managed to put a hole in the hallway with a moving cart. The hallways are wide and I still don't understand how that happened. I haven't unpacked fully but am continuing to find minor damage. Honestly, the worst part of this experience was not the moving crew. If anything I felt bad for these guys that were clearly exhausted and I tipped them for the full time, despite my issue with how long it took them. The worst part of this move was dealing with Paul. Paul's a busy guy. You can tell because he loves telling you that he's a busy guy. After not responding to an internet quote submission, I called to schedule my move. He put me on hold, asked who I was, repeated incorrect information he had just told me minutes earlier, etc. If you're wondering why I didn't just give up on this company immediately, it's because I had a completely different experience just a year ago. Same cargo, different crew, job was over in under an hour. Five-star experience and I was really hoping this would be similar. Instead I got Paul. The total move took 2 hours with a 15 minute travel time. I was charged $140/hr with a $40 travel surcharge. Total charged was $320, but forgot to mention there was a $5 deposit made days earlier that for some reason wasn't taken out of the final charge after all, so $325. This doesn't include the cost of a parking permit, having to reschedule cleaners due to the massive delay, and whatever the cost of fixing the property at my new residence. Paul refused to speak on the phone and wanted me to email him. Never heard anything back on the night of the move. Woke up Monday to find a charge on my card despite assurances that I wouldn't be charged for the job until we had talked. Called back, was told to "call the cops (?) or do what you have to do because I'm busy and I just can't". This was just my experience with a specific crew, I didn't even catch their names but they said they were from Brooklyn. I'm sure the time of day and who you get makes all the difference. Unfortunately it seems like you're stuck with Paul. Avoid if you value your time and belongings.

Ask the Community - Man With A Van

We are moving our son from an apartment in Audubon NJ 08106 to a condo in Washington Twp about 8miles away. We have furniture in both locations that will need to be taken away does the company offer both moving & removal?

I moved from Philly to south NJ with pick up locations in Manayunk and center city. I used Man with a Van and they were great. Roughly $430.

My team consisted of Alex, the owner, who honored their 5 % discount if booked 3 weeks before moving, and my movers, Eugene and Serge. Eugene contacted me the day before to confirm & ask some questions about my contents, and he kept me informed all along as to their arrival time. All went well but it took longer than expected with only 2 men. They were careful and followed my instructions re: delicate or previously damaged furniture. I asked if they would tell me when the heavy furniture was coming inside because I wanted to put padding on the legs to protect the wooden floors. This slowed them up but it helped me because I might have forgotten about doing that later. Also, I asked them to carry many boxes to the basement, and that I appreciated so much. I was very concerned about one piece, an antique rocker that had 2 breaks in one leg. Much to my surprise, Eugene placed a reinforced bandage on the leg and I am still using it until I take it to get repaired. While packing the month before, I had forgotten where I had hid some valuable jewelry. Well, low and behold, when my bedroom was already emptied, I saw my 2 stashes of gold and silver on the window sill. When I went to Eugene, I commented that I would never have known if they had kept it, and thanked him profusely. His response, "My parents taught me right, I guess." As far as Albo's rates and overall value go....You can't put a price on this kind of integrity and work ethic. The fact that I used them twice in 2 years speaks for itself. Packing for a move is one of the worst stresses in life. But having a moving company that is reliable and trustworthy will free up your mind to concentrate on other important things during your move.

His quote was a few thousand lower than it ended up costing me; I paid the highest amount that I heard from friends in my previous neighborhood who moved to the same development but their movers were not available. He later offered to help bring in some of the boxes but we were so frustrated by how much work we had ahead of us we just couldn't comprehend having him come over but as we were getting to the end we had some heavy items that needed help to move and I tried recently to call him and he doesn't answer the phone. That is why I wouldn't trust anything he says! BEWARE! No matter what is said get exact price written down, what is exactly is included, watch how they wrap everything and fragile items you should take yourself and be wary if they say boxes are included! I originally thought it went well till I started to unpack. Now first off I had an estimate including them to unpack but they misjudged the amount of work that was required. So it ended costing me triple the price and they didn't have the time to unpack. They also only marked half the boxes with what was in them making it very frustrating for me to know what was worth to unpack immediately. Upon moving the boxes that they piled up triple high and very heavy caused the move to be extremely difficult since we are in our 70's. Upon opening the boxes the items were wrapped and re-wrapped with so much clear plastic that we spent hours cutting through to get to the items. They did this to many things that were non breakable pieces like boxes of cereal but a vase from Greece was wrapped in paper and was broken in pieces. A cup from Russia also broken was thrown in with the vase and a piece of paper place between them no wrap on the cup. My small 2 drawer file desk was emptied in a box mixing paper clips, rubber bands, pens, markers, and everything else that was in jars. All our items with cords instead of keeping them together they were all thrown in different boxes and still have not found them. We have a very heavy sewing table with machine needed taken up to the walk up attic(our second floor) it is still sitting in the garage and now we have to hire someone else to take care of it otherwise we can not park in the garage. DO NOT HIRE THEM! THEY Will PROMISE TO DO THINGS; BUT BEWARE!! ALSO I WAS CHARGED FOR EXTRA MATERIAL; THEY USED SO MUCH MORE THAN NEEDED!!

Based on the other reviews, I'm thinking I might have caught some of the folx on off-days? I will say they were prompt and polite, and Sway really tried to make up for what he could tell was not the smoothest move. It was not an inexpensive move, but the price matched with other companies I got quotes from. *I'd recommend not asking them to move plants because almost all of the plants they handled lost limbs. Not sure how to get around this if you're a person without a car or just want everything moved in one trip, but I'm glad I moved most of the plants myself. Art was handled delicately though!
