I wanted to like this thrift store, but the inventory was really disappointing. Most of the items on the racks looked outdated and definitely not luxury or vintage. For a thrift store, there just wasn't much to look through. I appreciate that it's a nonprofit supporting dogs, but based on the lack of inventory, I'd honestly rather donate directly to an animal shelter where I know the support is going straight to the animals. One star for the cause. Zero star for the atmosphere and inventory. read more

This organization authentically helps and saves the lives of animals in desperate need of care. PLEASE do not let the petty comments that have nothing to do with this fact keep you from donating and shopping here! I receive their newsletters and they always feature the amazing work they do for so many dogs who were suffering or on deaths door! It's because of their work I was eager to donate, donate, donate all those expensive items I held on to! So you didn't like the staff member, so they were closed or you didnt get a call back...big deal! This is a non-profit with a staff of volunteer angels who do everything to rescue abused, sick, dying animals, so dont post your whining insignificant complaints that ultimately hurt the cause! read more

I am not writing about the shop, but about Start Animal Rescue, which saves animals through large scale rescue transport, and has totally AMAZED me with how unstoppably wonderful they are! I am no neophyte at animal rescue. All of our dogs and cats have been rescued, and, truthfully, every one of them has, in some fashion, rescued us. Animal rescue organizations differ dramatically: of course, there's always paperwork and vetting and endless conversations, but there's also always a good bit of associated enervating drama: the individual ego(s) of those on the organization side sidling up to the desire/need and individual egos on the adoption side. I have run into road blocks and attitudes that gobsmacked me, and made me seriously ponder whether I could teach a gaggle of fish to play catch with a tennis ball. Ah, but not at START (although I'm confident they have at least one fish that can fetch). That is only ONE of the reasons I adore this organization. No roadblocks. No ego. No drama. It is all about ensuring an animal in need and a person in need of an animal are put together in the most effortless and humane way possible, and there is not a person in this group with whom I have worked who has not been beyond kind, helpful, understanding, sincere and willing to go out of their way(s) to accommodate my needs and the needs of of the animal whom I wanted. As it turned out, unfortunately, the marvelous dog I got from them (the best ever!) was to much for a back (mine) that had journeyed through far too many surgeries, and they could not have been more understanding or quicker to help me out and reassure me about his future. It was clear they will stop at nothing to find these animals marvelous homes and that the people offering up those homes are, themselves, treated as something quite special as well. Here is an organization which has absolutely earned its wings! In future, I would ONLY refer people to this group and to their resale store. And, if I am healed enough physically in time, I will knock on their door for a cat. I would go nowhere else. Ever. In the end, this is about people because the animals cannot help themselves, and the individuals who founded S.T.A.R.T. - the PEOPLE who founded S.T.A.R.T. - not only recognize, but celebrate that. I commend them and am amazed at their astounding and consistent care and commitment. They deserve our profound respect in addition to our patronage. read more

I heard about START (Shelter Transport Animal Rescue Team) from a friend so when another friend suggested we get together on a Sunday and go "thrifting" I told him I knew the perfect place. When we arrived, we were greeted by the lovely Nicole. She had such a wonderful, energetic personality. She also brought her adorable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to the shop with her, which I loved! The store is very charming. It's clean and well organized and there are so many gems to discover - furniture, home goods, clothing, shoes, jewelry, books, etc... Some of the clothing/jewelry are vintage and some are new with tags. All the items are in great condition and are donated so the proceeds go to benefit animal rescue through spay & neuter programs and transport from high kill shelters to no-kill shelters and rescues. There is a $5 rack out front and a designer room in the back with high end Couture pieces at very reasonable prices. My friend was so thrilled because he scored a lot of great items (including a riding hat, which he'd been searching for) as did I. I absolutely love this store and the cause it supports. They get new items in daily, so I plan on shopping here on a regular basis. read more

This resale store is easily my favorite in the valley. I have found the best quality work clothes, like new horseback riding gear, and tons of cute outfits from here. Arlene is always quick to help me find something and happy to work with me on pricing when there is a sale or discount going on. The customer service and selection here is top notch and no other thrift store or resale store in the valley comes close to this one. This is a really cute resale store, they have a really good selection of mostly high-quality goods, the prices are very high, but I think it's worth it if you find something you truly love. My biggest turn off with this store is the older lady employee who works here with short black hair. She is always extremely unfriendly, I never feel welcome when she is working, and unfortunately, it actually makes me not want to shop here, I still come back because they do have a really nice selection of stuff, you can find cute stuff without having to dig for hours, but the unfriendly employee definitely dampens the experience. read more

I found this wonderful thrift shop in 2020. They take donations and have the most unique and fascinating items, from furniture to pictures, to clothing. And the shop benefits homeless animals in LA. So I get to shop and contribute to a great cause as well. Arlene is very friendly and always very helpful at finding just what I need. I have bought so many items over the last 4 years. Even my dog loves it and is always thrilled to go there! She greets everyone as they come in. I have found the most wonderful items there over the years. Think I have bought at least one item every time I go there. They just have the best stuff! You definitely should check out this shop. There is always parking on the street and even parking in the back behind the shop. This shop is definitely worth checking out. You will love it there! read more

I love this store and its helpful staff. Some people seem to expect a cutesy staff as if its all about social media fun. The best employees give you room to explore and give in to your own quest; but are there to answer questions and help as needed. I always find that here at the START resale store. These small store are not the same as a garage sale or thrift store: they are more a kind of boutique with previously loved items, waiting for a new home. At this store I know that I sometimes pay a little more, but I am getting something special, and its always worth it. I have discovered that kindness on the part of customers gives way to kindness on the part of employees at any shopping experience. read more

This is a small store with decent variety, the clothing is marked down from its retail price. The prices for second hand USED items is still so high, you can. Get new items on sale cheaper than thrifting here. Didn't love it. Random pieces of jewelry were like $10. read more

Her professionalism was such a welcomed change after going to other thrift stores where the salespeople look at your donations like they're fecal matter, particularly when those very stores sell junk. Wonderful store with lots and lots of cute stuff, great friendly sales staff and sweet events, too! I discovered the store and started shopping here during the last couple of years and they are always courteous, sanitized and clean in there. Plus the purchases help support kitties and puppies (my fav!) and have a homeless outreach program that is useful to the many locals who appreciate and value their services. I recently rescued 2 dogs from euthanization. I'm not in a position to have them but I had to save them. I posted on NextDoor seeking help and Karim was one of the first people who responded and immediately provided me with resource information and offered to donate food, toys, etc. Karim is the store manager at START and she is a gem! I finally went into the store today to pick up the items. I was absolutely FLOORED at the generous amount of food and goodies that she had put together for me. I have two 50 lb, very active dogs, so they need to be fed well. I honestly cannot say enough nice things about Karim. She actively followed up with me since I had to reschedule a few times, and she put a lot of thought into the items she donated. Making sure I had a substantial variety of food, treats, supplements, toys, blankets, etc. I needn't worry about feeding my dogs for a long time! The staff was also very accommodating. When I first interacted with her I had to call the store a few times and spoke with different people at different times and they've ALL been so warm and lovely, they went above and beyond to help me. These people really do care. You can see that they have a passion for what they do and it's important to them that their customers are happy as well as those of us who rescue. Just a tremendous amount of compassion. While I was there another woman came in and she recently rescued a kitten. We talked a little and she spoke so highly of her experience with this business and the wonderful staff. Great customer service is very high on the list for me. Sadly I didn't have an opportunity to shop because that's not why I was there. I did peek at a few things and I will definitely be back! They have some really awesome luxury items as well. They also have parking in the back, accessible through the alley. They had someone load all the items in my car. I wasn't even expecting that. Honestly I cannot recommend this business enough. It's so essential that we support small businesses too. Especially ones like these with a charitable objective. Just the nicest, loveliest people who genuinely care. Try on a used hot pink Chanel jacket on sale for $2000., a feathered designer frock for $$$$ and get bonus Covid cooties from the unmasked manager standing by the MASKS REQUIRED sign. It's her decision to vax or not, (NOT!) but city requires masks. Her boss walked in without one as well. Go to Neiman's for the after holiday sale...at least you will be sure that upscale bag with tags is authentic or not from a recent heist. The worst part of the experience was to hear Betty White dissed for donating to the zoo. read more

stumbled upon this store while walking down the street. My first time in. pleasantly surprised by the quality of the items. some great finds but very overpriced- particularly for a donation center, resale shop. my biggest turnoff was actually the attitude from the owner/sales person. she never acknowledged me or offered help or a simple hello. in fact when i did ask a question about an item that was on sale she basically barked, " its a good deal" and walked away from me. while there i heard her complaining to her co - worker about some of the items that were donated as she didnt like them. Not a good thing to do with customers in the store. overall i think the store has some unique and charming finds - even if overpriced. If i visit again i just hope its a different sales person working as the woman today was a huge disappointment and rather insulting all around. read more

I have found quite a few designer label pieces that were in near perfect condition and cost a fraction of the price.
