Unfortunately this facility was closed due to code violations with little notification- some clients were able to be placed in other treatment locations but sadly not the case for all. Lisa was not resourceful over the phone and randomly started pretending that she couldn't hear me after I was asking her if this is Carol's Sanctuary and she said "no it's Lisa" and I said "no did I call carol's sanctuary?" And she said "no this is the teen project" so then I asked her if she was located in van nuys, off of sylvan. But in the middle of me asking, she started talking over me and wouldn't stop lol. So I just kept asking her the question over her talking over me. And then she started pretending like she couldn't hear me. And prior before that, I had asked for an emergency psychiatrist they would take us to in downtown by a hospital, she said she has no idea what I'm talking about. So I asked if I can speak (mind you I'm being very polite. I've worked telemarketing jobs - and was good at it. I know how to conduct phone mannerism) to crystal or Jen. She says they aren't there, so I asked who else may I speak to. She said she can take a message. Miss. I'm asking for an emergency psychiatrist. You are working in a mental health field. Let's put 2 and 2 together. Very disappointed in Carol's Sanctuary, The Teen Project for having employees such as Lisa. I request that your employees have a better understanding of the field they are working in. read more

This place was awful. basically "too much for them" bc I was in and out of hospitals with extremely high blood pressure coming off of benzos and heroin and methadone . Terrible protocol and one of the worst decisions I made. to top it off they violated HIppa rights by calling my family when I never asked them to do that. read more

My daughter was an inpatient at Teen Project TWICE. Sadly she lost her battle with addiction in May 2019. The staff was willing to take her back once more but due to her age and past recidivism she needed personal health insurance which I was unable to provide for her. When L passed, I reached out to The Teen Project. Lauri Burns and several of her staff and recovery mates attended her Mass and Funeral. While many silently blamed me for daughter's passing, Lauri and her crew were nothing but sympathetic and loving. Layla almost made it.... though I am deeply wounded, I will always remain grateful to Lauri and her organization for CARING and perhaps understanding my child more than I did..yes they are a tough lot. They have to be. People's lives are on the line. I sincerely wish to collaborate with her in the future should I get past my grief. read more

The Teen Project - Mother and Child. My heart is broken. - Rehabilitation Center Near Me - Van Nuys, California

I have been in treatment five times now since 2022. I have my name hidden on here, but my name is Allison. I can genuinely say that the best part of treatment at this facility was talking to the program director David. After five rehabs, it's incredibly rare for someone to show so much interest in whether you're actually bipolar or have an anxiety disorder... And then make that a priority to figure it out... I've been at high quality, luxury, "whatever" rehabs, and absolutely none of them did that for me. None of them cared enough, but this person did immediately... At a Medi-Cal rehab... That just doesn't happen.... trust me. That's just somebody who actually f*cking cares. On Thanksgiving, I was at the program and I cried all day, depressed out of my mind, until the director came and made a few of us clients feel very seen and heard, very appropriately so, I might add. He came out of his way on a major holiday just to visit the clients. Do I need to say anything more to that? I also am a certified drug and alcohol detox technician so I know how the job is done, I know this industry inside and out, and even though I can definitely say that these employees (the techs here) did not do their best lol... The program director was the only reason I stayed. He was motivating, made me feel seen, heard, and like I wasn't invisible. And I know you're gonna freaking hate reading this but after five rehabs, he's the only man who has not attempted to lay a finger on me. Ever. Not once. I'm just heard and respected. It blows my mind as well. I have never ever been made to feel uncomfortable. My therapist and my program director David were the only reasons that I stayed at this place. It's crazy how you can go to a Medi-Cal rehab and find the perfect program director and the perfect therapist... and yeah, you pay thousands of dollars for these bougie rehabs and they can't give you any of that. There were decent problems here, yes... But they could all be revived by the program director and how much he cares about his clients. It makes me cry how much he genuinely cared. With no ulterior motives at all. We need more people like David in the business of recovery and we need more therapists like mine who keep it soooo f*cking real with you. My experience was good and bad, but it was good because of these two people. And the food. The food was awesome. And my stay here was highly impactful due to these two people as well, and as a veteran of going in and out of rehabs and recovery lol, this really really really matters. You should come here for David and the therapists, specifically. They made me want to stay sober. read more

This program saved my life. Not once but twice. Sometimes I cannot find the words to express what this program has done for myself and so many others. This is a medi-cal facility for women and it's a beautiful place to recover. It feels like a family. There will always be a special place in my heart for TTP. The detox is wonderful given that it's the hardest part to start your journey in recovery -- there could be some changes to make it even better but it will do with what they have. I think the biggest complaint I had and others had was the food and snack situation. Unsure if it's changed since I've been there but it should improve considering the fact. Not every program is perfect. The dorms were comfortable and felt like home. It can get crazy but they have great staff that gives the women the support and care they need. They will work with you to help and accommodate your journey. Great therapist, counselors and directors!! This program is a 6 months program typically but if you need it to be shorter they can work with you. But they will always suggest 6 months and I understand why. They find aftercare for you. They help with schooling and career building if you need or want it! They also help with mothers getting their children back. They are a DCFS approved facility/ provider--- I've seen sooo many women get their children back through this program. Many stay sober through this program. I've made great friendships for life from this program. They accomplish what they set out to do for women in Southern California. They help those who need and want help. They go above and beyond to make you feel at home and help you do the work on yourself. I recommend this program to anyone who wants to get serious and cannot stay clean and sober. It is a strict program but there's a reason for all of it. TTP! read more

No, a meeting at Denny's was never talked about, in fact they told me not to call you anymore, but aside from that. My sister passed away this year, a call was made to reach out to us for a donation, but I don't think that was the intention... they wanted information like "oh, may I ask how she died", "do you think it might've been drugs?" Who asks those questions when it happened a few days before? But thank the staff for not letting me see her as much as I could have, especially during the holidays and a forced 15 min birthday visit. read more

They stole my ride pods by conveniently forgetting to put them with the rest of my things when I was getting discharged. They kept them in an office because some things aren't allow to stay with you . Also no phones at anytime , can only make calls with counselors , one counselor was out of work for three weeks. From 6:45 am till about 7 or 8pm force to be in living room or dinning room , no going back to rooms before 7pm. Wish I could give zero stars . Food was horrible. read more

Everytime I came to visit my sister, most of the staff was very rude and unwelcoming. So I can't imagine how the girls in there felt around them. I got denied from visiting a few times, and for even two months in a row because she was being "punished" for not being compliant. The only reason I found out is because she called me one day, because they allowed her a phone call, and she told me her punishment was not being able to speak to or see family. This was around thanksgiving and Christmas. When I tried to ask more about it, she whispered to me saying that she wasn't allowed to speak about it or she'd get in more trouble. She sounded afraid to speak up. Then when I went to visit and try to see what was going on. They denied me and wouldn't even speak to me about it. I asked how long she was going to be punished since it had almost been two months of her being punished like this, and I got no answers. The staff was very dismissive. My sister had a child and they showed no empathy. One time they didn't allow her to accept a shampoo and lotion my mom had bought for her. And when she asked them why they allowed certain other girls in the facility to accept things and take them in without a permission slip, they quietly told her to stop arguing or else they would write in her folder and extend her punishment. Keep in mind I was about 10 feet away when this staff member tried to whispered this to my sister. But I was able to hear what the lady had said. I was so shocked. And my sister stayed quiet and tried not to cry in front of anyone. This is so infuriating, my sister kept all these things to herself about how the staff would treat her and make her feel like she was a Nuisance to them. The only way I found out is when I read these things in her journal about the staff. The only person who showed her any kindness and empathy was Anashesh. UNACCEPTABLE STAFF. They do not treat their patients with any empathy or compassion. Unless they have some favortism towards them. read more

I was at the women's shelter behind Teen Shelter. This facility is so restrictive and some of the staff are very dismissive and quite frankly rude! I asked for over a week to get my medication for bipolar disorder corrected and treatment of my hiatal hernia that gave me constant heartburn to be addressed as it was in the prior hospital stay! Protonix was never given to me to help this and my Lamictal was half what I was prescribed To ask for an allergy pill you need an act of Congress! Dr. Cho is horrible and creates a diagnosis of instability just to make the patients feel horrible about themselves. The "nurse" should have been named Nurse Ratchett. Cherisea or Theresa, I never really knew her name is beyond rude! They lock you up and you get 30 minutes at 4pm for phone and 2 30 minute times online. You can only watch cartoons and breakfast is fruit loops...you feel like a 7 year old with a bedtime and NO is the only answer you'll ever get. Mostly you get..."stay positive, it's a process, this takes time" My life was literally being destroyed on the outside and no one there gave any assistance to resolve the battery and domestic assault charges. It's all about control and feels like a jail! I left AMA and then they gave me my things...minus a 24k white gold pendant and several other items. Apparently, even if it's on the inventory sheet...things can disappear and you get a big F you because you didn't follow to process! There is NO counseling or real therapy. Unless learning about High blood pressure and learning a budget counts as therapy! There is NO domestic violence or substance abuse counseling whatsoever! It was a dreadfil experience and I left because thier idea of helping is to stuff you in a room with lights out at 10pm. Whatever happens throughout the day is viewed as acting out. It's basically "shut up", "do what you're told" and NEVER ever question your meds or property. Eat crappy food and watch the cartoons like a good little child! They preach advocacy for yourself....just don't say it out loud! read more

The Teen Project has reversed our experience and opinion about the addiction recovery business. The key here is empathy and compassion. A large segment of those involved in the Detox and Sober Living business, see it as a money maker where the desperation of parents and addicts alike produce customers willing to pay any amount and I mean ANY AMOUNT towards a true recovery for their children. Lauri Burns, a person who has personally experienced the horrors of addiction and learned what it takes to achieve and maintain sobriety, has established a program based on mutual empathy and respect among her teen-aged charges....an approach that not only works but enables a healthier and more permanent form of sobriety. Many of the girls have no means of financial support coming directly off a life on the streets into her program. State and private donation are the financial backbone of the Teen Project which oftentimes barely cover the basic essentials of the program. Our daughter, after years of addiction and rehab programs, is finally sober and currently has received several job offers from reputable companies. None of this had been previously possible. My daughter was an inpatient a Vera Sanctuary.. For Domestic violence and drug abuse.. This is an excellent rehab for women. It's an impatient facility, with around the clock staff and they introduce them to other women in sobriety that helps them with their recovery through meetings I must said the I personally found the treatment Veras Sanctuary which is located in very unique setting , beautiful and peaceful. the staff was professional, ( her son 4 years old) visited every weekend ..to bond with his mother and regain custody.. Staff was amazing, friendly and caring. Not only for my daughter, but to me and my grandson... ( they ensured my daughter got medical treatment for conditions she had. They also were helping her get the help she needed for the domestic violence she and he son had endured and were subjected to.. Regrettably her husband was let of of jail, contact her and she relapsed .. Very shortly, she contacted Laurie and told her I need help please , I need to detox and get back into treatment... Laurie was so caring and professional, She personally answers her phone and will also texted her immediately ..My daughter asked her please can you help me detox ( which she did) .. She currently is at Teen Project in Sun Valley detoxing.. And was granted the ability to return to Veras Sanctuary to complete treatment and get her life back together and regain custody of her 4 year old son.. The Teen Project is amazing treatment center and more.... Laurie was so kind, caring professional , Our family was blessed to get the chance to get the help to recover mentally, physically In such an amazing program. read more

This was the worst rehab I have ever had the chance to experience. The staff was extremely unprofessional and unorganized. The case manager assigned to me barely made time for me. I understand that she was assigned several girls. However, I expect the time that she made specifically for me, to be for my benefit. It was not even remotely close to it. She showed up late, and midway passed me off to my therapist. I was not able to have done the things promised to me for my time since she left without even letting me know. The tech staff are absolutely flat out rude at times and do not take the time to speak with you regarding something that is bothering you. They have favoritism that is very obvious and they make up rules and call them protocol. I did not learn anything regarding my addiction or touch base on any of my problems that I was promised I would be able to talk about. I'll never forget my first day. I arrived at 10 am and did not receive my luggage until 4 am the next morning. I went to see if I could have my luggage at 3 pm and I was told no. When I asked why I was told they were busy. There were three women in the tech office, two on their phone and one on the computer. When I went to complain to the lady in charge about how I've been there since 10 am ans haven't received my luggage, she told me that I hadn't been there since 10 am. I was baffled. Do not recommend this rehab to your loved ones and do not even waste your time to come check it out. This was absolutely appalling. read more
