We went to this restaurant with a gift certificate from Red Crow. While closed for renovations the sign in the window said gift certificates would be honored, but this one was not due to a technicality. The reasoning was sound on their part, but as a customer I don't care. The experience got better. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable, service was excellent. One suggestion: don't use the words "meat glue" when describing the special of the day - it made me think of a rendering operation for horses past their prime. Maybe "protein binder?" Maybe anything but meat glue. Yuck. The pork loin chop prepared with chateaubriand was superb, as were the fingerling potatoes, the french-cut beans and the risotto. The lamb was very tender, but otherwise unremarkable. Presentation was very good. Music volume kept going up and down, and the selection was puzzling, going from Runaround Sue to predictable Rat Pack standards. Odd for the theme; I would have expected something edgier, like some jazz fusion or blues. The decor was beautifully done, but the lights were overdone, ruining the ambience. Nobody wants to eat a $80 meal in the equivalent of bar ugly lights. If they keep up the quality of the food, they may become a favorite. I'm giving them 4 stars because they're 3 weeks old and still working out the kinks. One star lost for failing to honor our certificate. That's no way to start a new business. read more

Picked this restaurant based solely on yelp rating, and was NOT disappointed. While we were totally underdressed, the wait staff was very welcoming. The waiter graciously went over the menu in great detail, and was very knowledgeable and helpful in offering suggestions. The steak was perfectly cooked; the chicken was juicy; and the halibut was fresh and well seasoned. The waiter's suggestions on finishing was without fault. The old fashioned was fantastic, using cinnamon bitters and the right balance of simple syrup. The steak was so tender, and Brussel Sprouts are a must-have as a side! The only issue with our meal, and the only reason I am not giving a 5-star rating, was the wait time for the food; though this could be attributed to a 50th wedding anniversary the restaurant was hosting. I would absolutely recommend this place, but advise you to be willing to potentially spend some time waiting for you food. I assure you the possible wait is worth it!! read more

Incredible food!! Love eating here when in the Quad City area for work. The Bahn mi sandwich is lights out! Very nice atmosphere, good service, nice cocktail and wine options. They also have really tasty salad options as well. Like any great place, lunch is usually an hour or a bit more if they are busy. Out of the 3 visits so far, average time has been just over an hour. Finally a place in the QCA that understands what truly good food is. The menus draws inspiration from very different cuisines from around the world but stays in the European dining tradition. The wine selection is also very good. My husband and I went there for our wedding anniversary, but we will come back many more times. And with prices like that, I expect better service. I drove over an hour to eat here. I didn't know you could get boxes for leftovers until I saw other people walking out with them. Best New Restaurant in the Quad Cities The Hemispheres Bistro is newly opened at the former location of the Red Crow Bistro. It is in no way similar to the Red Crow which closed July, 2015. You have to try it! Entrees mainly in the range of $20 to $22. With 2 sides at no additional cost! Side dishes are plentiful: Potatoes ( various types), vegetables (brussel sprouts are the best), Rice and Noodles. They have 13 different sauces which you choose for your food. This is really continental style but it's still down to earth "Midwest" food: Chops, tenderloins, poultry, and seafood. It's a most unusual combination of continental type cuisine and the local restaurant next door. The owner and the head chef is Aman Razdan the former Red Crow chef under Laurie Sandoval, who founded Red Crow, back when Red Crow was The Restaurant in the quad cities. The kitchen has been enlarged anD now is proud to have the famous Tandoor Oven, which is used all through Asia (India, etc.) This is an oven made with Clay and has a mud or concrete type insulation. The great advantage is it maintains consistent temperature for hours after being heated to 900 degrees. The beautiful décor that Mark Romer built is still more or less the same. This is the perfect place for your romantic interlude. I would add that the Menu is not written in unintelligible French as some mgrs. and chefs did in the past. Every word is Down To Earth American. It opened October 22, 2015 and I ate at the Bistro on the 24th. I had the best Pork Chop on the bone I have ever had except for one exception which was a chop I had had at a fine dining place in Connecticut. It was not any better than Hemispheres. About 2 or 3 inches thick and the cost: $22. I have paid many times, $32 to $36.at fine dining restaurants. They are open for lunch with entrée sandwiches costing no more, than $11! One thing I want to mention; for dinner the appetizers are phenomenal and you can make a meal out of 1 or 2 of those. For example, the "grilled" cocktail shrimp which costs only $10. and includes asparagus and a coconut salad. There staff includes Sammy, the bar mgr, Rob, Dave, Erin, and Mary Ann and all are very attentive to your every need. read more

I've been 5 or 6 times, and I've never had a bad meal. I always have fine service, too. Emily, one of the owners, gives exceptional customer care. Chef Aman, despite having a menu that isn't at all limited, is always creating new features, and bringing on fresh concepts. He now does Ramen Thursdays, and an upscale Sunday brunch, both of which I am dying to try. I highly recommend. The Szechuan sauce is good over everything, but spicy. My favorite to order is any seafood with the dill-watercress veloute. Their cheesy mashed potato side is worth the splurge, and they do killer Brussels. I will never return to this restaurant again. We didn't realized that the old restaurant had closed, but were assured that this one was much better. Okay fine. My husband and I only ordered entrees and it still took them over an hour and ten minutes to bring us our food. When we inquired as to why it was taking so long were were told it was because we only ordered entrees. I also have food allergies and cannot have soy or wheat so I ordered just a rib-eye steak. It was the driest steak I've ever had, I even asked if it was a rib-eye, because there was no fat on it. The manager assured me that it was, and proudly told me that they hand cut and trim all the fat off. What, it's a rib-eye, it's supposed to have some fat on it. Finally, my husband ordered the salmon and what he received was cod, with the waiter telling him that's what he ordered. They did bring out the salmon, but by this point we were so frustrated by our experience here. As to the atmosphere, I know it's called Hemisphere Bistro, and I think it's supposed to be maybe familes with children on one side and adults only on the other. We were on the adult side, but honestly it was so loud that we couldn't even here the music that was playing. The family side was much quieter. read more

My husband and I enjoyed dinner at hemispheres bistro tonight to celebrate his birthday. We both got lamb dishes, the shank and the tenderloin and they were delicious! We loved our sides too, especially the brussels sprouts. Our waiter was great and gave us great suggestions on the menu. The atmosphere was perfect for us for a quiet night away from our kids. I traveled here for business. I live in Chicago where there are many restaurants to select from. This restaurant has rapidly moved up to one of top 5. Ridiculously good! The lamb shank fell apart, the reduction was tasty and the Brussels sprouts, oh the Brussel sprouts, were crazy good. The corn fritters that I paired the dish with was out of this world. Ughhhh, so sad, so disappointed. Ate at Red Crow very regularly....now, a new place, eager to check it out. It is beautiful aesthetically. Waiter was kind, we felt badly for him. Ultimately, the food was DELICIOUS, but 3 we didn't receive it until nearly 3 hours after we arrived, so by that time, I really didn't care. Yes, we were there on a busy Saturday night, but we had a reservation. I think they have taken on more than they can chew (so to speak). It took nearly 30 minutes to even order appetizers (thankfully, we'd ordered drinks at the bar while we waited for our table). BTW-they only carried 1 type of tequila, didn't have any of the 4 beers my husband requested (Amstel light...not super exotic). After waiting nearly 1.5 hrs & still not having even our appetizers, I was BEYOND frustrated (and hungry). I went to the bar & found our waiter, (think he was hiding-he was embarrassed, LOTS of others were complaining about the wait) to request our check, we were leaving. I could tell he was pretty horrified & overwhelmed, definitely not having a good night either. As we were gathering our coats to leave & he was profusely apologizing, food was delivered. We acquiesced, sat down & ate. It was delicious. Waiter indicated that the chef personally oversees each plate before it leaves the kitchen? Nice idea, not realistic? I feel bad writing such a negative review, I remember the chef, he used to work at Red Crow. He's a nice guy & an amazing chef & the place is beautiful. However.....bar was lacking the basics & slow doesn't begin to cover it & it was very pricey, which given the overall experience, made it all the tougher to "swallow". Unfortunately, there were several very frustrated patrons that night & one guy in particular was particularly loud & rude. Every once in a while you run across the impossible, in this case, one of the finest restaurants that could have been lifted from any major city, plopped down in a strip mall in Iowa. Hemispheres Bistro is just such a miraculous place. Elegant and contemporary interior? Check. Friendly and competent wait staff? Check. Perfect martinis and an adequate wine list? Check. Interesting menu and appetizing presentation? Check. This place has it all. We came on a Monday evening. The place was buzzing but we were seated immediately. We ordered drinks and the Tikka Chicken appetizer. The chicken was juicy and flavorful and presented with an artistic flair. The saffron cardamon dip was a perfect accompaniment along with the cheese fritters and heirloom tomato relish. Delicious! On to the main course. I ordered the pork tenderloin with the pear apple saffron chutney. The pork was perfectly cooked and paired quite nicely with the chutney. I ordered the Yukon gold purée with the white cheddar cheese and the brussel sprouts. OMG! The sprouts were out of this world good. Despite being full we were on a roll. So for dessert we had the sticky toffee pudding. If I knew I only had one meal left to eat, I would finish it with this dessert. It was a religious experience. Even my companion, who didn't want dessert, fought me for the last bite. Amazingly delicious. Two rounds of drinks (including a martini), a starter, two entrees and dessert came in at $111 plus tip. This appears to be a nice restaurant with delicious meals. I say appears because we never received our main dish. My wife made these reservations for Valentine's Day and arranged for a baby sitter weeks ago. We got there a few minutes early and we're seated in a cattle call at 7:30. We tried to order appetizers while we decided on our main course and were told that we should order everything at once to help the back of the house in some way. Ok, fine, no big deal, a little out of the ordinary for a waiter to tell a customer how to do things but, cool no problem. We put our entire order in at once and promptly waited 30 minutes for wine, another almost 30 minutes for some tuna tartar tacos (which were delicious), another 30 minutes for a BLT salad (also delicious). At the 2 hour mark we had to leave to make another engagement. We asked the waiter for our check for what we received and it was another 10 minutes to get that. At that time we were told our entrees were being plated and asked if we wanted them boxed up. We decided that we would rather not eat a $50 Wagyu Ribeye and $45 Chilean Sea Bass out of a box on Valentines Day, or ever for that matter, so we bounced. Nothing was comped, nothing reduced. We still paid $66 for one glass of wine and two appetizers over a 2 hour period. We were not the only ones this happened to, the entire vibe of the restaurant was weird with people talking in hushed tones and shrugged shoulders as to what was taking so long. The waiter was a nice enough guy but we never received any explanation as to what was taking so long. The only saving grace was that it was wonderful spending time with my wife, I can always count on her for a great evening. Unfortunately those great evenings will never be at Hemispheres Bistro again. Also sad for them is that I regularly hold marketing dinners for 15-20 people on an expense report at nice restaurants in the area and this was also a scouting trip. The food looks great but I can't risk this happening again for a large group I'm trying to impress. It was a bummer read more
