It's a challenge to know where to start in answering, "What do I recommend about Bub's Honey?"…read more Brian & Jenny contribute so much to their Wisconsin community in myriad ways through this labor of love. First up: the honey. It is easily one of the best I've ever tasted in a lifetime of honey-loving. It also happens to be 100% natural and untreated. Not a single "extra" is added at any step along the way. $15/jar and worth every penny. If you live in the College Ave. area of the historic district, you can even walk to their porch for a pickup. Next: the experience. I had no idea that Brian had hives at Eco Justice Center (& a nearby plot) until I meandered across a mention of a one-time mini-course he was giving during summer. Full disclosure: my interest in honey has always been on the consumer end not the production end. However, JO has been OBSESSED with the idea of learning beekeeping here or in Ireland for awhile now. Brian & Jenny were gracious enough to let me arrange a private "Bees 101" experience for his bday. I went along just for the fresh air but returned wholly captivated by beekeeping, myself. As a physics teacher, Brian's unique take on innovative twists and experiments for his hives is fascinating. What really got me, though, is his storytelling. I am all about the storytelling. Each hive has a different name and a completely different setup. Learning about the differences in personality and habits of Italian vs Russian bees... I haven't stopped reading about them since our visit. If you don't know much about the health benefits of consuming LOCAL honey, have yourself a Google-- especially if you suffer from allergies, hay fever, immune disorders... If you are an educator, yourself, consider reaching out to Brian about a field trip. If you are a grant-giver, please do consider learning more, too. This is an extraordinary asset to your community. Oh... and Jenny is a fellow NU Wildcat so #GoCats! This is located just an hour north of campus! Perfect fall trip! Just call ahead to make a date!
