After a very warm welcome from the hostess (twice because we walked in 2x, undecided) we were happily seated immediately in their beautiful dining room. Nice space warm yet white. They are a raw bar and had many oysters to choose from but we had already had a snack at an event but were still a little hungry. We decided to split the homemade bread with anchovy butter and the Mushroom steak. The flavors blew us away!! While we did prefer to add a squeeze of lemon to the butter, the flavor was outstanding, a little salty, smoky and luscious. The bread was crusty, warm and uniquely delish. Then we tried the mushrooms.... Wow, whatever sauce they put on those was phenomenal. The mushrooms were not overcooked but still had a bite ( a good thing) and the side salad complemented it perfectly, and I forgot to mention the mashed potatoes under the shrooms, perfect pairing! We stopped by here for a drink and snack while in the neighborhood. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience, and we will hit up this place next time when we have more time. Oysters are my wife's thing, and she said they were delicious, especially for the money spent. Great HH value. Bar area is as you walk in, and then the dining room is after you pass the bar. It is a nice setup, with both areas separated nicely. It felt like the perfect combination of energetic, yet classy. I find places straddle the line and fail, but they created a great environment. You might be wondering how it gets a 5 when we were there so briefly. Well, it was because of the service. Our bartender was named Vaughnee (hope I spelled that right), and I hope you get the pleasure of his service when you go to the bar. He was the perfect combo of efficiency, personality, menu knowledge, and humor. I made a joke with him that to be named that, he almost HAD to be a cool guy. He backed up his cool name. It was pouring rain the day we were walking around this neighborhood, and so glad we planned on swinging in. Henrietta red is a solid place to get your seafood and oyster needs met. Oysters are in the pricier side but they do have a $2 oyster happy hour! We were a group of 6, started off with beef tartare (tasted like a hamburger lol - still good but different than other beef tartare's I've had)! Also had an order of bread (their bread is delicious, and the dip it comes with was AMAZING. For dinner I got the grouper which is definitely the go-to move. It is delicate and very flavorful. My husband got the gnocchi and truthfully we weren't big fans - it was good well but the nori flavors were a little much and just not our taste. The service was friendly but a little slow - we had to remind our server of the appetizers we ordered after a while. The bartender we talked to before we sat down at the table was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed chatting with him. Not even sure where to begin with this review. Every single thing that touched my lips from this place was 10/10. I'll start with the cocktail menu - it was impressive! So many options, and even 3 great mocktail options. I had the mocktail tequila drink and it was fantastic. It was so fresh and tasted just like a real alcoholic beverage, but without the hangover! In terms of food, we were a party of 8, so I think we literally tried almost ever item on the menu to share. Every next bite was better than the last! Absolute stand outs were - mushroom risotto, summer panzanella, gnocchi, and scallops. But truly everything was 10/10. Lastly, the ambience was amazing. It was clean, aesthetically pleasing, and we LOVED the open kitchen concept where we could see the pain staking detail that was put into every food item. It felt very farm to table fresh. Service was also excellent - fast and efficient! This might have been my favorite restaurant that I have ever been to. We were only visiting Nashville, so when we were leaving, we were all so heartbroken knowing that there is absolutely nothing like this place where we were from. Located in the Germantown part of Nashville, Henrietta Red seemed to have a flavor for that part of town. A group of us had dinner served family style. The Wood Fired Bread was great, but the Anchovy Butter had a mixed reception. To me it was weird eating bread that tasted like ceasar salad. Of course you didn't have to put the butter on it! The Wood Roasted Oysters with Green curry Butter were actually outstanding. It could very well have been the first time I have ever had oysters, and I was very happy with how they were prepared. The Red Butter Lettuce with Green Goddess, Cucumber, Spring Onion, Aged Cheddar was a nice salad joined with the main meal. The Gnocchi - Dandelion, Mushroom Escabeche, Ricotta was unusual, but still good. The Snapper - Ramp, Agrodolce, Lentils, Almond was great. The Wood Roasted Garlic Sausage - Spaetzle, Bok Choy, Walnut, Onion Soubise was nice, but I thought there would be more going on for it than there was. The Poppy Seed Cake - Golden Raisin, Walnut, Anise Ice Cream also had a mixed reaction from the table, but I enjoyed it. Service was very attentive and the place itself is a super nice location. I had long been hearing great things about Henrietta Red, and finally went for my birthday brunch. Reservations are recommended a sit was pretty packed. We parked on the street was nearby. The atmosphere was very bright with lots of natural light and modern table settings. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating (a server even walked me to the bathrooms when I inquired where they were located). Our server walked us through the menu. We ordered oysters, fries and Poppy's caviar for starters. All were incredibly fresh and seasoned well. The caviar was some of the best I've had for a reasonable price. Oh my gosh. Amazing. I tried this place out because it was on the New York Times top restaurants in Nashville and it did not disappoint. Everything was so so good. The gnocchi was the best gnocchi dish I've ever had in my life. The oysters were fresh. The bread was fantastic with that anchovy butter. And the drinks were amazing as well. I tried the margarita and the espresso martini. I don't remember our waiters name, but it felt as if we were best friends. He was so kind and always made sure we liked every single dish. This is a nice restaurant in the germantown area of Nashville. We ate on the patio and there were four of us. We had 4 different oysters each. Being from the south, we were very familiar with the murder point oysters. The restaurant is known for the green curry but they recently added the mustard butter oysters. I think we all loved the mustard ones! We each had different entrees and they were all fabulous but the clear winner was the mushroom risotto. I believe the menu changes frequently as most of the of the pictures from prior Yelp dinners were not on the menu. I dined at Henrietta Red after it was recommended by a close friend who used to work here. It is apparent immediately after entering their establishment that this place is special. The service is excellent and the vibe is inviting. I was obsessed with the fact that they have an open kitchen concept and would highly recommend eating in the main dining room. I was seated with my back facing the kitchen but awkwardly turned my entire body around to stare at what they were doing and couldn't help it. When I made my reservation I specified in the comment box that I was a vegetarian and they provided me with an extra menu that exclusively listed the vegetarian options. This was the first time anything of the sort has ever happened and it was a lovely touch. Their menu is unique and you can expect to see some innovative dishes. I was very tempted by the wood fired bread (vegetarian version offered on my menu but typically comes with anchovy butter) but GF reminded me that I also wanted the Spaghetti Squash Toast and that may be too much bread. I had already consumed a few drinks but in retrospect, this is concerning if you know who GF is lmao. I was convinced, and we started with the Spaghetti Squash Toast with ajika (i had to look this up and holy shit just when I think I'm cultured and in the know about food I am aggressively reminded I don't know shit), pickled date, cream cheese, dill, almond. This was absolutely wonderful. Who puts spaghetti squash on toast? I don't but I have been royally missing out. GF ordered something seafood to start but I can't remember details and neither can she. For our mains, we shared the gnoccchi (pepitas, more squash, greens, parm) and the fettuccine (carrot, castelvetrano, fennel, orange, pimenton). The gnocchi was FANTASTIC. I initially thought the gnocchi were way too soft and mushy for my liking which GF couldn't believe because she thought they were cooked perfectly. I later discovered that what I thought was gnocchi was the squash. This testifies to the strength of their drinks! The fettuccine was also very good but it was way too salty for my liking. It might be more of a regional preference as much of the food I ate in Nashville was on the saltier side. The salt overpowered the other flavors. We ordered the cookie platter for dessert which I felt was a touch pricy for 6 cookies. They weren't exactly your run of the mill, tollhouse shit they were like butterscotch miso and double chocolate rye. We did not achieve perfection here but the meal was lovely and worth the visit nonetheless. read more

The open kitchen is a really cool aesthetic and gives it a more intimate emotion. Loved the oysters. Tried oysters from Florida for the first time. Ryan the bartender (I sat at the bar top) is a sweetheart and very attentive. I tried the sausage entree which Ryan informed me that it's a hearty dish. Amazing meal. I enjoyed some raw oysters and the green curry cooked oysters. I had the grouper as my main and it was great. The bread with the anchovy butter is great. My sister had the peels which was root veggies tempura fried. It was amazing. I would order it myself. She also had the beet salad and raved about it. The panna cotta was spectacular. Going to eat at a seafood restaurant with a vegetarian can be worrisome but she had plenty of options and loved her food. They even brought out a vegetarian menu for her. To celebrate our anniversary, I wanted to find a special restaurant. Based on other reviews, Henrietta Red seemed to fit the bill. As it turned out, the food was great and the service was superb. My only complaint is with their wonky online reservation system through Tock, which was not working properly. With our friends, we shared an order of their wood-fired bread, a red butter lettuce salad, an order of mushrooms, spaghetti, grouper, and gulf shrimp. All were delicious. The restaurant is nothing but hard surfaces, so it can get loud. Parking is available in a nearby lot. read more

My friend and I made a reservation for brunch on a Saturday and were seated right away. The environment was inviting and the service was incredible. We have been visiting Henrietta Red for years now. Whenever we get to Nashville, we stop in. The food is always great and the service is too. We ate at the bar today (as we often do in restaurants that have them) and our bartender, Leah, has been there almost since they opened. I can see why...she is very good. Okay, it was my first trip to Nashville and I wasn't sure what to expect besides oversized portions of BBQ. Well, let me tell you, if you're a foodie and you're looking for a taste of New York or San Francisco Michelin level cuisine look no further. First, the service was friendly and knowledgeable. The acoustics in the room allowed for easy conversation even though the dining room was 75% full on a Thursday, and the minimalist decor was classy chic, but still relaxed and casual. I'm not sure how they got super fresh oysters to Nashville, but they did, and the food was not only beautifully plated, but the flavor that was packed into the appropriately sized portions left you satisfied and content. We came here for the New Year's Eve dinner for the first time and were blown away by both the service and the food. Items ordered: 1. Assorted raw oysters 2. Red snapper crudo 3. Roasted oysters - salsa macha 4. Chicken liver with burnt honey gelee, wood fired bread 5. Broccoli toast 6. Gnocchi with oyster mushrooms, butternut squash, hazelnuts, and ricotta 7. Black eyed peas with collard greens (a new year's must order!) 8. Steak with blue cheese and potatoes Clearly this was way too much food for just 2 people on top of getting a cocktail each and splitting a half bottle of champagne, but our leftovers were great the next day so there was no food wasted! My favorite dishes were the roasted oysters, broccoli toast, and the gnocchi. I was really skeptical when my boyfriend ordered the broccoli toast, but the florets were extremely crispy and combined with the garlic labna and hot honey, it was heaven. Gnocchi was pillowy soft and melt in your mouth, and has inspired me to consume more squash! We felt attended to our whole dinner and our server made great recommendations. Henrietta Red is closed Monday; we went Sunday night and discovered they were out of much of what we had planned on eating. I wanted monkfish, our son wanted one particular oyster and he and our grandson had planned on splitting the duck; all were sold out. The oysters we all ended up having were perfect, our server, James H, diligently communicated with us and the kitchen so that my wife, who has IBS, could have the seared scallops. She said they were delicious, as was my trout, but those were probably the only 2 options large enough for a meal. Our grandson and DIL both had gnocchi and our son had the sausage; very good but not quite entree size. With a nice bottle of red our tab was $432, which included a 20% service charge. This restaurant would be ideal for a group who wanted to share numerous different sides along with a couple of larger plates, but that wasn't feasible for us with both monkfish and duck unavailable. read more

Okay, maybe this review just shows that I am an old fart in training, but I didn't like this place. Also, I came with four college age boys who arrived "hungry"... I fear they left the same way, so I took them for spicy chicken. Bottom line - I would steer away from this place if you want to eat much. I should have taken these boys for steaks, as it all would have worked out better. The boys had heard that the bread was great, so we got some of the warm smallish loaves. They got five over the meal. That was $35 in bread and butter which didn't sit quite right from the start. From the outset I should have realized that this is a "small plates, sharing" sort of place... I would have made a different choice. The menu was odd. Things on the menu that seemed to be starters were smeared together with entrees making hosting a group difficult. "People usually get two dishes" doesn't really help much. At the end of the day, we had five mini loaves, 24 oysters, two smallish tomato salads, four (bad) small spaghetti with seafood dishes and one (good) small fish dish for the cost of a heavy meal at a steak place. The server was very, very nice, though the service was glacially slow. Midway I asked her why things were so slow, asking for more attention. She apologized though I think that much of that was outside her control. Other points: - The water was served in small glasses without ice. They left the carafe on the table. I know, I am behind the times, but hate having to ask for a larger water glass, ice and some salt and pepper for the table. - I ordered an ice tea which was refreshed once during the two hour meal. As she had to fetch a new one, this took 15 minutes. They only had natural sugar, no sweetener, which again bugged me. - The restaurant added an automatic 20 percent to parties of five, the junior manager pointing out a disclosure on their menu to that effect in microprinting. They waived that with some dispute after a more senior manager got involved. read more
