There is plenty of parking, and we were the only customers at the time of our visit. As soon as you open the door, you get slapped in the face with the smell of fish (of course!). I wasn't expecting the wide variety of offerings, though! Saltwater and freshwater fish, as well as scallops. If you're a little queasy about such things, there is a table about 20 feet from the door where they process the day's catch, so you may want to look away or have someone else do your shopping for you. The shopping area is small, about 6 by 15 feet, maybe? A counter with fresh fish and scallops on display and two freezers with frozen goodies. Prices were reasonable; we picked up some smoked salmon and went to a little park nearby to snack. We had a wonderful time comfortably riding through "Death's Door" on the 20-minute trips narrated by personable Captain Voight as he pointed out two famous lighthouses and informed us of the history of the area. Departing from Gills Rock, this ferry does not take cars, but transports many passengers' bicycles. With indoor and outdoor seating, people in the same party with different preferences can all have a good time. This company also operates the Viking Train that provides two-hour narrated tours of Washington Island, and the Yankee Clipper that tours Plum and Pilots Islands. Very enjoyable!

During the time of COVID-19 I'm looking for shopping experiences with minimal human interaction…read more Popped in tonight to pick up a few things and was eager to use the shop & scan feature in the Meijer App. Normally, self scan means you have a contactless shopping experience. You scan your items and pay for them- all on your phone. Here's the weirdness that is this feature at Meijer. Scanned my items with my phone (so far so good) but then to pay for them I had to go to a "self serve" check-out, scan a QR code on the screen, have the employee come up and tell me they are required to scan "3 of your items" (I was buying 4 things)- and then you can scan your credit card at the self checkout to pay. That's certainly not scan and go, nor is it contactless. There is really minimal benefit to scanning on your phone vs scanning all your items at self checkout. The other really unbelievable aspect of Meijer in the time of a pandemic is that they will charge you $4.95 to pickup your order at the store and you can't use pickup for any alcoholic items. Meijer needs to take some cues from WalMart- which has order pickup down to a science. They bring the groceries to your trunk quickly, for no charge, and will bring out your alcohol (with a convenient curbside ID check). I don't want to go through the checkout nor have the front of store staff touching "3" of my items. It's a no- brainer that for a contactless experience- Meijer is not the right choice. Shop and scan was really disappointing.
