We had a wonderful time comfortably riding through "Death's Door" on the 20-minute trips narrated by personable Captain Voight as he pointed out two famous lighthouses and informed us of the history of the area. Departing from Gills Rock, this ferry does not take cars, but transports many passengers' bicycles. With indoor and outdoor seating, people in the same party with different preferences can all have a good time. This company also operates the Viking Train that provides two-hour narrated tours of Washington Island, and the Yankee Clipper that tours Plum and Pilots Islands. Very enjoyable!

After reading countless reviews, we picked this one as our #1 dinner choice because it seemed to have great vibes and a beautiful outdoor garden overlooking Lake Michigan. The setting absolutely lived up to the hype, and that alone earns it a star. We arrived a little early for our reservation and decided to grab a drink at the bar. My mom simply asked if they had any watermelon or pineapple seltzers, and instead of answering, the bartender just handed her a drink menu and walked away. It was a small interaction, but it came across as dismissive, so we decided not to order drinks. We were seated shortly after in a wonderful spot in the garden. We had our dog with us, and it was the perfect outdoor setting for her to relax while we enjoyed dinner. Our server was pleasant, but she didn't seem very attentive or able to read the table. We started with the Brussels sprouts, which were delicious and probably the highlight of the meal. We know this restaurant is especially known for its whitefish and lobster boil. After tasting our meals, my mother said she wished she had ordered the whitefish since we'd heard such amazing things about it. My mom ordered the ribeye, and she said it tasted more like a sirloin and was totally overcooked. It lacked the rich flavor you'd expect from a ribeye and had quite a bit of fat. She only ate a few bites before giving most of it to the dog. The vegetables (I believe asparagus or broccolini) weren't good, and the au gratin potatoes were equally disappointing. The only real win was my son's chicken tenders. He's an extremely picky eater, and he genuinely enjoyed them. What disappointed us most was how the situation was handled. When our server checked back, she asked how everything was, and we replied, "It's alright." Later, when she saw that our plates were still mostly full and asked if we wanted boxes, we said no. That would have been the perfect opportunity to ask if something was wrong or if there was anything they could do. Instead, the conversation ended there and the check was placed on the table. At that point, we just wanted to leave. Between the underwhelming service, the bland food, and the high prices, the experience simply wasn't worth it. During the time of COVID-19 I'm looking for shopping experiences with minimal human interaction…read more Popped in tonight to pick up a few things and was eager to use the shop & scan feature in the Meijer App. Normally, self scan means you have a contactless shopping experience. You scan your items and pay for them- all on your phone. Here's the weirdness that is this feature at Meijer. Scanned my items with my phone (so far so good) but then to pay for them I had to go to a "self serve" check-out, scan a QR code on the screen, have the employee come up and tell me they are required to scan "3 of your items" (I was buying 4 things)- and then you can scan your credit card at the self checkout to pay. That's certainly not scan and go, nor is it contactless. There is really minimal benefit to scanning on your phone vs scanning all your items at self checkout. The other really unbelievable aspect of Meijer in the time of a pandemic is that they will charge you $4.95 to pickup your order at the store and you can't use pickup for any alcoholic items. Meijer needs to take some cues from WalMart- which has order pickup down to a science. They bring the groceries to your trunk quickly, for no charge, and will bring out your alcohol (with a convenient curbside ID check). I don't want to go through the checkout nor have the front of store staff touching "3" of my items. It's a no- brainer that for a contactless experience- Meijer is not the right choice. Shop and scan was really disappointing.
