I went for a dry martini with one of my favorite gins -- which was properly mixed and chilled. Since we were in need of dinner too, we checked out the menu. Lots of good options. I decided to try the whitefish sandwich. It was excellent. A nice filet on a decent roll with the right amount of sauce and crunchy veggies. I'd definitely eat it again. Generic but decent fries along side of the sandwich made for a nice meal after our first day on the road. I was told that it was my fault for asking for our focaccia, appetizer, and main course to be spaced out. (the only options that were given were to have all items at once or spaced out) At this point I asked for a manager. The manager (owner) came out hot, acting like the soup guy from Seinfeld. He had the waiter repeat what she told to me earlier and when I tried to interject, told me to stop and listen to her. I reiterated that at this point we'd been there for over an hour after being seated (late) (also at this point it was almost and hour and a half since being seated) and that it was unacceptable to still not have been served the main course, whatever their excuse was. There were at least 3 servers, and not over 20 tables in the entire place. Instead of offering anything at all to make up for it, acknowledging any of the issues, or least of all apologizing, the owner told the waiter to "get us out of here". The waiter wound up bringing the entree in a bag and the check (including the entree) to us. I had to demand I wasn't, at all, paying for the entree in order to get it removed from the bill. Finally after every single other person in the restaurant was served and checked on, the waitress walked by and stated " did the other waitress serve you?". I said no and began going over our order which included a non lactose meal which the waitress stated " I can read..." and walked away. Only to then be brought not only the wrong plate but not be brought bread or corn. I had to point it out and the waitress stated "oh, I guess you're right." Then clearly overheard that they were out of fish, clearly the reason my wife was given the wrong meal. I again want to be clear that the table next to us had their entire meal start to finish already at this point and this was a prearranged meal that should have been served with everyone else at that fish boil time. The manager did comp the meal however stated that "what did we want there was fish...?" again my wife never received her correct meal as they were out of fish. I am honestly so confused as to how or why the waitress wanted to completely avoid serving us, not bring food after we were the last ones left, get another server when asked for her manager to confuse us more, and the manager to clearly just want us to leave as soon as possible... as if we were the problem for eating there. We decided to give this place a try for dinner because we could smell the smoke while on a walk earlier this morning. We do our own smoking at home, and love to try other barbecue. This is a very casual place, like most of Door County. I think it's been renovated to add the outside area in back. The bar room is Wisconsin old-style paneled walls, the oval bar fills the room! It's tight and really a one-person aisle--you have to be careful of servers bringing large trays of food in the same aisle. The indoor dining room is plain and nothing special. We sat outside on the covered patio. The bay views are nice. Service was prompt and friendly. The food is ok. I had the smoked chicken and hubs did the brisket. We both felt the proteins were too dry. Good smoked meat is moist and flavorful, this really needed the help of the sauce. The sides (coleslaw, mac & cheese, baked beans) were ok as well. I did like the sauce! We ate our dinners and didn't leave hungry, but wished for better. It was a busy holiday weekend and maybe things just got a bit off for them? With so many other great restaurants in the area, we probably won't go back unless it's necessary, I.e they are open fairly late.
