    The Shoreline menu

This was our first time visiting the Shoreline and it was a nice place with a great view. The menu isn't huge but they have a lot of variety and some local fish. It's a very small place but you can't beat the view. We started with the Whitefish cakes which are source from local whitefish and a local fish company. They had great taste and were very crispy. I had the fish of the day which was grouper and I chose to have it blackened and it was served over a creamed corn grits, very interesting. My wife had the Sushi bowl which was very good but the tuna was a bit too over-cooked. All in all it was a good experience food wise but when I made the reservations on-line I could only choose between 5:00 or 7:30 for availability. We were there at 5:00 and the dinning room was less than half full until we left at 6:00.

We dined last evening and everything about our experience was exceptional. Everyone in our party enjoyed our apps and entrees. We ordered the fish dip, avocado tartare, and smoked salmon Rangoon along with white fish platter and chicken and grits. What I want to note is the owners went above and beyond to make our dining experience exceptional. They truly went out of their way to take care of us. We will be back and highly recommend!

Stopped in with some friends, for them to eat, and for us to sip a cocktail. Sat outside on the patio. The service was okay and my drink was good. I tried a bite of my friend's Buffalo Sprouts and they were good. The view was okay, but not exceptional (stuff between the restaurant and edge of water). Wouldn't mind giving the place another try.

This was our first time here and we came based on the location and menu. The view did not disappoint. We had reservations at 7 pm and got a beautiful view of the sunset. Each of us in our group got something different. We had the prime rib, whitefish, salmon, and scallops. Everything was really great and the hot bacon spinach salad was awesome. If you are looking for a nice view and yummy food, check it out.

Door County was always our happy place when we lived in Green Bay and when we visit, we always try to make the drive. Unfortunately so did many other people on a nice summer Friday. To escape the crowds we drove all the way to Gills Rock to have lunch. We weren't able to get a seat on the patio but did get the last view table inside. I think of the Shoreline as "old school" Door County - not pretentious with a more traditional menu. The decor is a bit dated and the carpet worn but it was cozy inside. The only vegetarian options were two salads. I chose the DC Cherry. It was a very generous sized salad with crisp fresh greens, plump dried Door County cherries, chèvre, praline nuts, onion slivers, and a few fresh tomatoes on the side dressed with champagne cherry vinaigrette. I savored every last bite. Hubby had the GR melt with smoked whitefish, bacon, harvarti, and mayo. It was ok and filling, a bit greasy but as he says, it met his Wisconsin standards! Quinn was a friendly attentive server.

    Sunset view from our table

Tracey D was our server with a friendly welcoming smile The salmon ragoon was very good as well as the whitefish soup I really loved my mushroom risotto with sesame crusted salmon Sooo delish Hubby had the pasta with shrimp and capers that he really liked Beautiful building with a great view of the bay

We had reservations for 10 people at 7 pm on a Saturday night. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and sat promptly. Our server KC was awesome, knowledgeable, and efficient! The maple old fashioned is one of the best I've had! We stared with whitefish cakes that were delicious. Scallops, filet, mashed potatoes all excellent! Must have the pumpkin crème brûlée! Our group is still talking about how good everything was last night!

Up to Door County for a quick weekend getaway from Chicago. We were recommended this place along our journey around the peninsula. I'm very glad that we took it and went! The food is great but the view is unparalleled in the area! We checked in and the wait list was a little over an hour BUT we ordered some appetizers and drinks and went outside to see the bay. It felt Ike 5 minutes before they came and got us even though it was closer to 90 minutes. The view and scenery were phenomenal! We had the cheese curds and whitefish dip as our appetizers. The cheese curds were good but the whitefish dip was AMAZING! I haven't had a better dip ever. Once we were seated, we ordered. I got the whitefish on the rock and it was almost as amazing as the dip! Very few times I scrape the plate but this was one of them. The S/O got an off menu daily special of shrimp scampi Rockefeller. I don't think I've ever seen her enjoy a dish so much! It was so good! After dinner, it was time for sunset over the bay. There is NO BETTER place on the peninsula to watch this! We sat with some drinks and watched the day come to a gorgeous end!

Finally, on our last trip, the stars aligned and we made it in. It was soooo worth it. We had a bit of a wait, as they don't take reservations, and it is a VERY popular place. We sat at the bar and enjoyed drinks until our time came to be seated. The bar area has ample seating at the bar and there are several tables, as well. On one end of the room is a small bump out where they have a few items for sale (shirts, et). On the other end is a huge stone fireplace that actually sits in the middle of the building and separates the bar from the dining room. There are animal mounts everywhere, but not overly so. I ordered Hunherschnitzel (chicken) and my husband ordered Jagerschnitzel. Both came with sides of sauerkraut and red cabbage. For dessert, I got a slice of cheesecake. Everything was so delicious! We love German food and were hoping for the best. We got it! I see that they are closed till 2026....I hope it's to expand or remodel and not to close, because I definitely will be coming here again! 9/2025

Both were very good, and the emmentaler that came with the pretzel made it even better. For the main course I ordered the hühnerschnitzel. I ordered it with the hunter gravy on the side, but they forgot to do so--luckily, although there are mushrooms in it, it wasn't overpowering and it wasn't bad. The meal was pleasant, as was the setting. Our server was very good, attentive, and knowledgeable. We went earlier in the evening and it was not too busy. I think I'd visit again if I was looking for a place to eat in Door County.

We came for the fish boil and returned for breakfast!…read more You can't visit Door County without experiencing a unique and traditional Fish Boil! We loved hearing the history behind the fish boil and watching it come to life at the Old Post Office Restaurant! The dinner and experience was very reasonably priced at $30 per person and they offer options of fried chicken or ribs for those that don't care for fish. I'm (personally) not a big fish lover but I had to at least try it and it wasn't too bad! Dinner is also served with 3 different types of bread and a slice of delicious cherry pie! (Cherries are grown all over the peninsula). We sat outside on the front porch and watched the sun slowly set and the sky fill up with brilliant colors as we finished our dinner. I left with both my belly and heart as full as possible! We enjoyed the restaurant so much that I wanted to stop by on our way out of town, the last day, and try out their breakfast menu. I splurged and ordered the fresh cherry pancakes with a side of one egg and bacon. I planned to just eat half of my pancakes but I almost devoured them completely! My mouth is watering - several days later - as I am thinking about them and writing this review. I highly recommend the Old Post Office if you are in the area. Unfortunately you have to call the restaurant to make reservations but it's definitely worth the little bit of extra effort.
