    Cast Iron Chicken

Wonderful dining experience! The meal was outstanding, the ambiance was excellent and the service was great. I had the Cast Iron Chicken and my wife had sesame encrusted Salmon ? Portion size was very nice reasobly oriced and perfectly seasoned. Best meal I have had in DC in recent memory. Would definitely recommend and will definitely plan on going back!

Stopped in with some friends, for them to eat, and for us to sip a cocktail. Sat outside on the patio. The service was okay and my drink was good. I tried a bite of my friend's Buffalo Sprouts and they were good. The view was okay, but not exceptional (stuff between the restaurant and edge of water). Wouldn't mind giving the place another try.

    Chicken and grits

We dined last evening and everything about our experience was exceptional. Everyone in our party enjoyed our apps and entrees. We ordered the fish dip, avocado tartare, and smoked salmon Rangoon along with white fish platter and chicken and grits. What I want to note is the owners went above and beyond to make our dining experience exceptional. They truly went out of their way to take care of us. We will be back and highly recommend!

This was our first time here and we came based on the location and menu. The view did not disappoint. We had reservations at 7 pm and got a beautiful view of the sunset. Each of us in our group got something different. We had the prime rib, whitefish, salmon, and scallops. Everything was really great and the hot bacon spinach salad was awesome. If you are looking for a nice view and yummy food, check it out.

Door County was always our happy place when we lived in Green Bay and when we visit, we always try to make the drive. Unfortunately so did many other people on a nice summer Friday. To escape the crowds we drove all the way to Gills Rock to have lunch. We weren't able to get a seat on the patio but did get the last view table inside. I think of the Shoreline as "old school" Door County - not pretentious with a more traditional menu. The decor is a bit dated and the carpet worn but it was cozy inside. The only vegetarian options were two salads. I chose the DC Cherry. It was a very generous sized salad with crisp fresh greens, plump dried Door County cherries, chèvre, praline nuts, onion slivers, and a few fresh tomatoes on the side dressed with champagne cherry vinaigrette. I savored every last bite. Hubby had the GR melt with smoked whitefish, bacon, harvarti, and mayo. It was ok and filling, a bit greasy but as he says, it met his Wisconsin standards! Quinn was a friendly attentive server.

    Sunset view from our table

Tracey D was our server with a friendly welcoming smile The salmon ragoon was very good as well as the whitefish soup I really loved my mushroom risotto with sesame crusted salmon Sooo delish Hubby had the pasta with shrimp and capers that he really liked Beautiful building with a great view of the bay

We had reservations for 10 people at 7 pm on a Saturday night. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and sat promptly. Our server KC was awesome, knowledgeable, and efficient! The maple old fashioned is one of the best I've had! We stared with whitefish cakes that were delicious. Scallops, filet, mashed potatoes all excellent! Must have the pumpkin crème brûlée! Our group is still talking about how good everything was last night!

We didn't have any plans for dinner so my companion started looking for acceptable options on his iPhone. "How about this one," he said. "The 'Fresh Water Tavern' in Gladstone. Gladstone is just a few miles away." Having been to the Terrace Bay Hotel recently I said, "Actually, it's just down the hallway." "Really!" He replied. "Yep, it's the restaurant and bar right here in the hotel," I said. "Let's go!" He replied. And so we walked from our room to the bar. Once seated at the bar we ordered drinks. I went for a dry martini with one of my favorite gins -- which was properly mixed and chilled. Since we were in need of dinner too, we checked out the menu. Lots of good options. I decided to try the whitefish sandwich. It was excellent. A nice filet on a decent roll with the right amount of sauce and crunchy veggies. I'd definitely eat it again. Generic but decent fries along side of the sandwich made for a nice meal after our first day on the road. I didn't expect to find five star food in Gladstone, but tasty three star food with a properly mixed cocktail at the hotel restaurant/bar after a long drive is actually worthy of four -- so kudos to the Freshwater Tavern!

The appetizer salad was beautifully constructed with crunchy, wonderfully fresh veggies. And a ranch that was delicious (I don't usually love ranch). My entree was the chicken katsu which was huge and so crispy with a a sweet lovely sauce drizzled over it. And the cherry pie for dessert was the perfect ending. Food was good, bartender (ahead of being seated) was great, atmosphere was good. Service was SLOW and inattentive. There were multiple times where we waited 10-20 minutes with no food or drink in front of us. No one ever followed up for additional drink orders outside of the first. After about 1 hour & 10 minutes, I flagged down a bus boy and asked them to find out why we still hadn't gotten the main course. They said we were behind a big table and it should be about 5 minutes. 5 minutes later I flagged down my waiter and asked what was up. I was told that it was my fault for asking for our focaccia, appetizer, and main course to be spaced out. (the only options that were given were to have all items at once or spaced out) At this point I asked for a manager. The manager (owner) came out hot, acting like the soup guy from Seinfeld. He had the waiter repeat what she told to me earlier and when I tried to interject, told me to stop and listen to her. I reiterated that at this point we'd been there for over an hour after being seated (late) (also at this point it was almost and hour and a half since being seated) and that it was unacceptable to still not have been served the main course, whatever their excuse was. There were at least 3 servers, and not over 20 tables in the entire place. Instead of offering anything at all to make up for it, acknowledging any of the issues, or least of all apologizing, the owner told the waiter to "get us out of here". The waiter wound up bringing the entree in a bag and the check (including the entree) to us. I had to demand I wasn't, at all, paying for the entree in order to get it removed from the bill. (I left it on the table) The bottom line is that, the entree could've been the tastiest dish in the world, but this place doesn't deserve your patronage.

Once at our table we waited 40+ min before I could flag down a server. During which the table of 10+ next to us left, they cleaned the table, sat 10 more people and served them the fish bowl. The server served every other table in the restaurant before talking to us, including checking on two of the tables near us again to make sure they had everything included in the meal. Finally after every single other person in the restaurant was served and checked on, the waitress walked by and stated " did the other waitress serve you?". I said no and began going over our order which included a non lactose meal which the waitress stated " I can read..." and walked away. Only to then be brought not only the wrong plate but not be brought bread or corn. I had to point it out and the waitress stated "oh, I guess you're right." Then clearly overheard that they were out of fish, clearly the reason my wife was given the wrong meal. I again want to be clear that the table next to us had their entire meal start to finish already at this point and this was a prearranged meal that should have been served with everyone else at that fish boil time. It was clear that our server would rather die than speak to me as I raised my hand again and again every time she passed by. Finally she stopped by the table and said that they were cooking our food in the back and that it would be out shortly. I asked for an explanation as the entire meal should have been cooked in the fish boil and not separately. The waitress laughed and said "it's boiled in water out there, it's boiled in water in the back, what's the difference..." my wife then said we need to speak to a manager since that's not the experience. Another person stepped over 5-10 min later and said let me explain that we are cooking it and it will be out shortly, confused we asked if it was cooked in the fish boil and if she was the manager, which she said no. Finally the manager did come over, however after an hour and a half my wife had already left. I felt completely unwelcome, like we were the problem. The manager did comp the meal however stated that "what did we want there was fish...?" again my wife never received her correct meal as they were out of fish. I am honestly so confused as to how or why the waitress wanted to completely avoid serving us, not bring food after we were the last ones left, get another server when asked for her manager to confuse us more, and the manager to clearly just want us to leave as soon as possible... as if we were the problem for eating there.
