This was my go to BBQ place for years. We drive almost 30 minutes, past half a dozen other BBQ places to get here but it has gone really downhill the last two visits. Gave it another shot and ate here a couple weeks ago but both my wife and I were extremely disappointed, again. First thing we noticed was how gross the dining room floor was. Didn't even look like it was swept in a long time let alone mopped recently. The brisket was tender but tasted like unseasoned roast beef from the oven with some generic bbq sauce squirted over it before serving. There was no "bark" or smoke flavor at all. Wife had the St Louis style ribs and again they tasted like they were just baked in an oven and then dipped in sauce before being served. They were tender and all but had no smokey flavor whatsoever. Didn't taste like either of those meats ever saw the inside of a smoker. Two sons both had burgers and the one was so greasy that the bottom bun practically disintegrated. Youngest son got the hotdog meal which is ridiculously large and oversized for a child's meal. He could barely get the thing in his mouth. The baked beans were flavorless and generic, like they were from a can. Onion rings were just ok. Mac and cheese and the mashed potatoes were still really good but I can't spend that kind of money for this. read more

The food was "okay", and the service was ok. The ambiance was meh. What really annoyed me - they do not offer tap water; nor do they have ice, so they said. Bottled water is available for about $4 as I recall. I brought a beer with me; it seemed to be an inconvenience when I asked for a bottle opener. Henri & Co. make it known both verbally and with a sign on the door that they do not serve fast food, so expect a wait. My personal favorites are the pulled pork, fried chicken, mac and cheese, and macaroni salad. My husband and I don't eat out at a lot of BBQ places since we love to cook BBQ at home, however, Henri Hott's does not even compare to any of the chains you'll find in South Jersey *cough* Famous Dave's *cough*. The best time to go, in my opinion, is Sunday afternoons when they feature their BBQ buffet. It's always so hard to choose what to get on a normal day because everything they have is so delicious. I have never received such horrible service at an establishment in my life. I ordered a chicken platter that took well over an hour to receive. The waitress was very sweet and tried her best to accommodate us but, the restaurant was very unorganized and lacked communication. While waiting for my order, I watched many people arrive after me, order in person and received their food before me. A few of these orders were large trays and I couldn't help but to ask the status of my food after 30 minutes. After informing the waitress of the issue, the female owner/cook came to our car & assured me that the food would only take 8-10 minutes. I felt hopeful and was ready to receive the food to leave. However, after waiting additional 30 minutes I grew restless and asked kindly the man owner about the status of the order. He was extremely rude and dismissive. I explained that I did not intend on waiting this long for food and tried to have him understand my frustration. He replied "either you could get your food or leave". Furthermore, he did not offer compensation. When I finally received the food, the woman owner came outside and told the man owner how she did not know the order was on two slips. She did not acknowledge her previous promise that the food would arrive earlier. Once I finally paid, the man stood close by the waitress as if I was going to give her a hard time. The whole experience was very disheartening because I drove an hour to support a fellow Black establishment. In addition, I spoke extremely highly to my colleagues about the experience at this restaurant. However, after today I will not continue supporting your business. No customer should ever walk away from a service not feeling acknowledged or dealt with a lack of consideration. Sad to say, you lost a customer smh. read more

What happened? I heard about this place and was excited to be able to get a car to the place for a takeout. I'll just get to the point. Full Fried Chicken was just a HUUGE thumbs down. The Chicken was soggy because it steamed in the bucket, I guess. The breading reminded us of a TV Dinner Texture. The Breast was fair, parts of the piece was dry. It needed salt, some zing, The Dark Meat was more moist, by again very little flavor and NO CRUNCH to the chicken. This would not be even in my top 25 fried chicken places. What drew our attention was the mouth-watering smell as well as the giant smoker smoking out front! We decided on our way back, we'd stop in. When we went inside, there were quite a few people! There was a buffet set up, and a karaoke machine in the back. It was spacious on the inside, and decorated with sports paraphernalia. We approached the counter and stared at the menu, kind of unsure of what we wanted to do. We were warmly greeted by woman happy to help us out. We had MANY things to choose from... They have platters which come with corn and cornbread, sandwiches, tons of sides, family and party packages which tell you how many people they serve, and our personal favorite, just buying meat by the pound. We went with two pounds of brisket and one pound of pulled pork. The price of $8 a pound is GREAT! The woman helping us kindly made recommendations and was incredibly patient with us while we tried to make up our mind. We took the meat back to my parents house, and we were all blown away by the flavor... I usually don't eat meat, but when I tasted the pulled pork I swear I heard cymbals crash and trumpets play. The following day we took our leftovers to my sisters where her family was equally as impressed. We recently ordered some food for a late Christmas party we just had last weekend... We went in where Henri himself helped take our order. Again we got some meat by the pound, but this time we added some cornbread. When we arrived at 1:30 to pick up our food, it was all ready to go and still piping hot! This cornbread was moist and full of flavor!! It was a pleasure to eat! Usually cornbread is dry and pretty much just acts as filler, but I kept coming back to Henri's cornbread! I might have eaten about 4 pieces of it. Why you are still reading my review and not driving there right now is beyond me. Seriously - this place is special. It's owned by down-to-earth, good people who love what they do - making GREAT FOOD! They are insanely easy to get to, right by the intersection of 54 and Black Horse Pike. I head great thins so we went for the buffet. It's a great deal with about 25 selections but everything was kind of bland. Ribs were tender but lacked either a smoky flavor or a saucy flavor. Same with the chicken and pulled pork. Same for most of the sides like mac and cheese, but I did like yams and the corn pudding. I don't mind going to a place that looks and feels lived in but the BBQ got to be better.
