This store sells many nice things for the home that you can buy on the spot, but the store is also the base for people who want to get a professional to help decorate their homes Yates & Kennedy occupies about 500 square feet on Commercial St, and owner Mitch Yates has created areas throughout the shop that teem with personality. The shop, which has been around for over 10 years is chock-a-block full. Antelope horns lean against agate bookends, watermark pillows rest next to small oil paintings, and claw-foot candlesticks, magnifying glasses and a jewel-encrusted crown share table space. A variety of vintage wallpaper serves as backdrops to the diverse assortment. Yates has even created a space for a great assortment of espadrilles and hand screened T-shirts by his best friend, John Kennedy. The shop, like a room with character, is spirited and charming. When you visit, plan to spend some time there; you never know what you'll uncover.

Another associate saw me in the fitting room and walked right by, right to my friend who was still being helped. The second associate said "he's been helping you shop, would you two wanna share a dressing room?" talking about the other associate. My friend declined until it was uncomfortable and silent, meanwhile I'm trying to ask for another size and still being ignored. Adam's artwork makes me laugh, makes me think, and reminds me of why this place has a special place in my heart. I had the privilege of asking Adam during my last visit to sign a linen bag. He graciously did, and it made an already memorable visit even more meaningful. I may have left fanboying a little. As a gay man, I have enormous respect for those who came before my generation--those who lived through Stonewall's legacy, the AIDS crisis, and continued creating spaces filled with hope, resistance, resilience, joy, and authenticity. Adam's work reflects that spirit. His messages celebrate queerness, courage, kindness, and the importance of being unapologetically yourself. If you're visiting Provincetown, don't just stop in to shop. Take your time. Look around. Read the messages. Support artists who have helped shape the soul of this remarkable town that rekindles hope, reignites the embers of resistance, inspires courage, celebrates queerness, and gives us the will to keep going.
