We went here for New Year's and yes, it is in Pasadena. We were concerned about parking getting there getting away from there all of that, but it was worth it. The food is excellent and they have their own parking lot. Service was very good. I love the ambience of the place and we go there again even on New Year's. We were close to the parade, route so it did take a little extra time with traffic with respect to this restaurant check their hours. They are not necessarily every day, but if you want a unique experience, this is one in Pasadena that you will enjoy.

Location 5 stars: In Pasadena, on the West side of S. arroyo Parkway, just North of E. California Blvd. They have their own free parking lot! Almost unheard of in busy Pasadena. Very convenient. Venue 4 stars: Rustic indoor and outdoor seating with Southwestern motif. They are only open on certain Friday and Saturday evenings, so be sure to call in to make sure they are open before you go. Service 3.5 stars: Friendly and polite. Our specific server was super nice, but not very efficient or attentive. Food 4 stars: Sophisticated comfort food with a Southern flare, using fresh local ingredients. Small menu of 6 main plates and about 10 appetizers and sides. Concepts and plating are unique and creative. We had the Jambalaya Arancini (good), the Brussels Sprouts (great), the Brie Eggrolls (good) as appetizers. We also had the Beef Bourgogne (great), the Chicken Katsu Benedict (great), the grits (good), the Blackened Catfish (good), and the Baby Back Ribs (just OK) as our main plates. Drinks 3 stars: Beer and wine and a few Low ABV (Low Alcohol By Volume Content) cocktails (made with wine and prosecco, no hard liquor), soft drinks and tea/coffee. They do recommend wine pairing for each of their main plates. The Bottom Line 4 stars: Pleasant and unique experience, given the reservations that I have noted above. High potential concept that could benefit from further development and scaling. Recommended!

I don't remember what the cake was, but it was an amazing cinnamon ice cream!

The owners of this restaurant in Pasadena lost their home in the Altadena fires, so locals have been trying to support this restaurant. I'd been wanting to go so went with another couple and we had a great night. Everything was delicious!! All the starters sounded so amazing that we decided to get a bunch of those, and no main courses although I definitely need to go back to try the shrimp and grits. The fried oysters were exceptional and don't miss the biscuit! Only miss was the sangria, which tasted too much like cloves. Might have been better served hot! Our server was so friendly, and the owner came to say hello & chat with each table. Discovered that he does a LOT of catering business, so I will definitely keep them in mind for future events. We sat on the patio with heat lamps, which was lovely. Inside is nice too but a little louder.

The Angel biscuit is delicious. A must try. I was disappointed with the menu. They happened to change their menu the night before our reservation. I was looking forward to try a few dishes on the old menu.

We all enjoy comfort food! This is what henry parsons project is about. Local sourcing, fresh produce, creative menu. My favorite is gumbo, chicken katsu Benedict, and steak frites. Meat Flavorful, juicy and tender. Also i made sure i left room for dessert! Make sure you make reservations before hand. This restaurant only opens on certain week/days. I hear that it only opens when they are not out doing catering. So make sure you plan ahead and make reservation. Service is attentive and friendly. Attached parking lot.

    Bibb Lettuce Salad. Very good.

I typically pick a restaurant based on their cocktails but in the case of Henry Parson's Project it was solely for the food. I've been wanting to come here since it opened. I was enticed by the Southern inspired comfort food and the biscuits! Part of the issue with me coming here is that they are only open a few weekends a month. Thankfully, the stars aligned, and I was able to secure a reservation. HPP was founded by Chef Kevin & his wife Kari during the pandemic. The menu here changes based on local seasonal ingredients and features several Cajun/Creole staples like Gumbo & Etouffeé, but you'll also find something interesting like Chicken Katsu Benedict. The building used to house a Mexican restaurant, and the architecture reflects that. However, the inside décor emits a Southern charm and NOLA vibe. There is even a lounge area for live music. Our server Dalton was delightful. He informed us the dishes are family style. They don't have a full bar, so I had a glass of the Fratelli Cosmo (Prosecco). My niece had The Bruery IPA. The prosecco was lovely. I ended up having another and my niece enjoyed the IPA. Since my niece was treating, I let her pick. However, I did insist on the biscuit. We ordered the Bibb Lettuce Salad, Brussels Sprouts, West African Dandan and, of course, the BISCUIT! The bibb lettuce was buttery, soft, & tender and the homemade buttermilk dressing was so good. The Brussels Sprouts were perfectly charred and so yummy dipped in the garlic aioli. The house made Dandan noodles was also delish. The peanut sauce was tasty and the tempura okra & seitan were a nice accompaniment. The Angel Biscuit was AMAZING! It was huge - plenty for us to share. The outer crust was crispy & crumbly and the inside was soft & fluffy. It was everything I dreamed of and more! My niece and I enjoyed our meal. She wants to come back and so do I. The service was attentive, and the food was fantastic! I wish they were open on a regular basis and had a full bar. Special shout out to Chef Kevin & Kari for generously feeding the families affected by the Eaton Canyon Fire even though they also lost their home. Please support this wonderful, family-owned business. *Catering *Private parking lot *Beer & wine only

    Yummy Mac and Cheese Balls!

Up until recently the only Parsons Project I knew was Alan's. "Something in the air. Maybe for the only time in my life. Something in the air. Turning me around and guiding me right." We were certainly guided right, arriving at the time of our reservation at the Henry Parsons Project. Something is in the air alright! Delicious aromas wafted in the air. We were warmly greeted and seated on the inviting outdoor patio. We excitedly reviewed the menu and ordered the Mac and Cheese Balls, the Brussels Sprouts, the Roasted and Grilled Cauliflower, the Cheddar Angel Biscuit, the Crawfish Etouffee, and the Shrimp and Grits. The mac and cheese balls were crispy on the outside and warm and lusciously cheesy on the inside. So yummy! The brussels sprouts were perfectly grilled and accompanied by a wonderful garlic aioli. We are weak for garlic anything and these brussels sprouts with the aioli were delightfully garlicky! The cauliflower was tastefully grilled and rested atop an achiote, salsa macha, gruyere, and Swiss mornay sauce. Excellent! The cheddar angel biscuit was a savory treat. The crawfish etouffee was a festival of flavors nestled on perfectly spiced Cajun rice. This selection brought to mind great memories of New Orleans for us! The shrimp and grits were magnificent! We finished this spectacular dinner with the Ginger Bread Sticky Toffee Pudding and the Hawaiian Style Mochi Donut. These were both a marvelous way to finish this memorable meal. We will definitely be looking for other opportunities to return to Henry Parsons Project in the future. Yum!

Duck and andouille gumbo, this might be my favorite so far

Amazing food, amazing service!! The whole crew was so warm and welcoming and the chef was the coolest sweetest dude! I appreciated how he was genuinely happy that we were enjoying our food. The ambience, decor, and layout was really cool! We ordered the duck and andouille gumbo, I would definitely come back and order 3 more orders of this. We also got the shrimp and grits and the half rack of lamb. Both were amazing! And the peach cobbler sealed the deal for us. The food and experience was wonderful, my partner and I didn't know what to eat the next day because all else pales in comparison.

    Duck/Andoille gumbo

I spent many years living in Louisiana and while I do not miss the humidity or hurricanes, I will always miss the food. It's relatively rare to find very much cajun/creole food to begin with, and it's even rarer for it to be up to par. HPP was extremely above par. It's easily the best food of this style that I've had since I left Louisiana, including food I've made myself. I'm really mad that it never occurred to me to use duck in a gumbo, it's like the perfect poultry for it. It was so so so good. My crawfish Étouffée was perfect. They didn't skimp on ingredients in either dish, every bite was loaded up with meat. Our service was great. We were checked on a lot and our servers were super friendly. The inside is really cool and unique. Eclectic art and pictures are all over. Looks like they must have live music sometimes too! My only regret is that I didn't leave room for dessert.

Oh hell, I feel like I was transported to NOLA. Intimate setting, interesting art and decor, beautiful bar, friendly and prompt service. As a former New Orleanian, I can tell you this is the best gumbo I've had outside of New Orleans. The mocktails are awesome, if you choose not to imbibe. We had a biscuit, as well. It was perfect. I ordered the hanger steak and he ordered the crawfish étouffée. Everything was legit and delicious. We had no room for dessert, but based on the rest of our meal it would've been amazing. This place has amazing potential to be super popular, but the signage outside appeared to be lacking. We'll be back whenever we're in town!

    Jiang bing crepe

Came here with my family and was pretty excited to try some new cuisine. The servers were really nice and the ambience was quirky and interesting, since it looked like a Spanish building but there was really fun abstract artwork and candles lining the walls. Out of the appetizers we ordered, I enjoyed the crispy oyster and brussels sprouts, flavorful chicken pate platter, and the huge buttery and flaky biscuit. The gumbo unfortunately was very bitter, I only took one bite and couldn't eat anymore of it. And the jiang bing crepe was unique, very thick and creamy, but I only liked it cause of the potato chips. Out of the entrees, I thought the crawfish etoufee tasted okay. It had so much crawfish, but it was kind of bland, not spicy or flavorful at all. They did really well in braising their oxtails, but we didn't like the flavor that much. And lastly I regret not ordering the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. We ordered the dos leches chocolate cake and it was bad, tasted really weird.

I really wanted to like this place but left pretty disappointed. My partner and I cane here for dinner and ordered the biscuits, gumbo, and the roasted chicken. Biscuits: 7/10. This was good but nothing special. Gumbo: 6/10. This tasted off to me and was nothing close to the gumbo I've had in New Orleans. The smokiness overpowered the rest of the dish. I feel like the roux wasn't freshly made. Roasted chicken: 5/10. The chicken was cooked well enough and was tender but very lacking in flavor. The collard greens were also bland and would've benefited from the addition of a smoked meat. Service and ambience were nice. Prices would've been reasonable if the food was better. Sad to say we probably won't be back.

    Shrimp and grits
    Caroline T.

Interesting flavors in a colorful and fun setting. We came on a Sunday evening and the restaurant wasn't very busy. The service was attentive and the server gave great recommendations. In fact, we should have just kept to his recommendations- when we started, it was a mistake. We would come back for the fried goat cheese salad with crispy prosciutto. It's a great balance of textures and flavors. We would also get the shrimp and grits again. The shrimp is well-spiced (stay away if you can't handle a Cajun spiciness) and the grits have rich shrimp flavor that pairs exceptionally with the mushrooms. The biscuit was a disappointment. We expected something flaky and buttery but instead got what we thought was more of a large bread roll with a nice crust. Had they called it a bread roll, we would have been more satisfied.

Shrimp and grits (bottom) and fried chicken with collard greens and sweet potato fries (top).

This bar is tucked inside Vroman's Bookstore (already one of the most charming and iconic bookstores in the area) so the entire experience feels like stepping into a warm, literary universe. What makes 1894 truly special is how intentionally it celebrates literature. Everything in the bar pays homage to the bookstore. The drink menu is full of clever, book-inspired names. You'll find cocktails like Pride and PearJudice Pride, Fifty Shades of Earl Grey, and other fun literary twists. Every drink feels like a little wink to readers, writers, and book lovers, and it adds such a unique charm to the experience. The vibe is super quaint and warm, dim lighting, and a creative atmosphere that makes you want to stay for hours. The wine is on the pricier side ($19-$21 per glass), but the quality delivers. Customer service was excellent. One of the bartenders spent time chatting with us. He pointed out a chalk artwork behind the bar a dramatic portrait he drew himself featuring expressive, literary-style faces, like Edgar Allan Poe, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, etc. It fits perfectly with the creative, bookish aesthetic of the bar. If you're into books, wine, and unique experiences, 1894 is a spot you absolutely can't miss. Being in a party of 4 girls coming from high tea, we were dressed in elegant dresses, first comment was asking if we were coming from church, followed by eye flutters, short "okay" with an upward inflation to a joke about the day, an impatient comment about hurrying up and trying the wine while we were talking, asked for water when we were out, were left to pour the rest of our wine, didn't ask how the food was all the while was attentive to the table behind us, the cherry on top comment was when we were discussing the bill at the end, he was hovering at the table behind ours, then when we were ready, we asked to split the bill into 2, my portion on mine and the rest on another card, he then said "this isn't like a drive through, we can't do it that way" so I asked him to explain his comment, cause it was passive agressive and rude. After he wasnt able to becuase he wasnt expecting me to call out his rude comment, I had to then break it down and specify what I had ordered, he then sold "okayyyy....so how much, cause we don't itemize?" I had to again express for him to specify how they do it cause he has still yet to explain where his attitude is coming from and explain how they do their check splits, from my understanding it just felt like he wanted to play dumb and make me to the math, one I did he was like "ohh, okay" should have asked for the manager but we paid and left, I hasnt had this experience before being a returning customer, but he needs an attitude adjustment as his attitude was completely out of pocket. Do better Manuel, you alone got your place of work a 1 star. The rest of the staff was kind, facility beautiful and food and wine was good. This restaurant is not reflected in the 1 star.

The decor is also very nice, it's like a transformation walking into a tasting area in a winery. I get why this place is the way it is, it is a different persona from the other owned establishment, but wine can be intimidating. You have the reds, whites, the sweets, the sparkling and etc. Not only the difference in profile, but you can pair it with food to enhance the overall flavor. There's potential to display educational decor or have sessions to educate. They do provide a wine club, but small steps can establish commitments with a new customer base. The pizza is delicious. The sauce is great, the crust is solid, and the toppings are of quality. If you want something light and fresh, the Margherita. The most underrated pizza since we are all accustomed to a lot of toppings on pizzas. This is a must try. This place out of the other owned spots has burrata cheese. I think adding mozzarella with burrata would improve this pie, but nonetheless still good. The truffle pig pizza was also good. If you're looking for meaty and something not too light, this would be a good option. I definitely will be back. Thanks for everything!

Definitely would recommend the mushroom pizza, one of the best I had. Wine selection was good. Waiter was helpful and knowledgeable when it came to selecting wine.

Loved it! Lunch and shopping all in one place!…read more Located on Green Street. It's a shady walk to the resto and you can sit inside or outside. It was too hot and humid to sit outside. There was so many options and only limited belly room. We ordered: Tinned fish board Cheese board Cornbread eclair - OMG! The eclair was so unexpected and so delectable A few cocktails Dessert Afterwards, we went shopping in their little bodega and purchased cookies and crackers to be enjoyed at our next Hollywood Bowl outing. Enjoy!

Food: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5…read moreService: 1/5 I've been wanting to come to Agnes for years, so when my fiancé booked it for our anniversary I was very excited- but the experience left me disappointed. Our waiter was incredibly passive and at times it felt like we were being completely ignored. He would attend to tables around us but never checked in with us, had what seemed like a limited knowledge of the menu, and offered a half assed apology at the end of the night. The table next to us was clearly someone of importance, because they kept getting "gifted" foods, cheeses, drinks, etc. - which is fine, but only magnified our poor service. We also saw our food and beverages as well as other tables food and beverages be delivered to the wrong tables. My fiances sorbet was given to the special table next to us, but they had already had their dessert, and so the wait staff left with it and a minute later delivered it to our table melted. There was one staff member that was wonderful, and it seemed like he was a busboy who was filling in for our waiter (sorry I did not get his name) but he was very kind, personable, and would be the reason we come back, aside from the great food. There was also no acknowledgement of the special occasion we were celebrating, which is a minor thing but at other restaurants it's usually never missed and helps make for a nice experience especially when we mark that we are here celebrating an anniversary. All in all it was a disappointing experience. We may return for the food in the future, because it was excellent, but the service needs to be worked on.

We started with the artisan bread as an appetizer, and then the sweet potato fries. The bread and butter was really good. The sweet potato fries were a solid choice almost got Brussels sprouts may do that next time. I was really considering the Wagyu beef stroganoff as well. . A co-worker had the spicy pasta and loved it. We were there celebrating a special occasion, a retirement celebration. . I ordered the rainbow trout top 5 I have had in a really lon time. They brought out a card for her retirement, which surprised her, and they provided a dessert too. The food, the service, and the experience were all five star. If you want to go somewhere for a special meal or to celebrate, Granville is a great choice. I definitely plan to come back. I picked my meal from looking at the Yelp pictures, not the menu. I posted a few pictures as well. great vibe speakng If I lived closer I would come more often. I hope you enjoy my pictures.

It was nice to get out of the summer heat into an air conditioned restaurant. What we ordered: Drinks (included with $25 dineLA prix-fixe) - Berry lemonade - non-refillable - Craft soda (cream soda) - refillable Appetizers - Grilled mushrooms - Farmhouse beets Entrees - Poke bowl - Pasta alla Vodka Dessert (gelato) - vanilla fleur de sel - dark chocolate - cherry almond chip The berry lemonade was salty. I wasn't expecting a salty drink. I had to wash it down with iced water. My friend enjoyed her agave vanilla cream soda. She gladly accepted a refill. The grilled mushrooms were nicely seasoned. We enjoyed the variety: oyster and trumpet mushrooms. The farmhouse beets were served with arugula, feta, candied pecans, and a lemon vinaigrette. These were nice starters. I ordered the poke bowl. The portion size was perfect for lunch. It contained tuna, soba noodles at the base, small cubes of mango & avocado, toasted coconut, red onion, basil, and sesame seeds. The ingredients were fresh and beautifully presented. The pasta alla vodka was slightly spicy. It consisted of "mezze maniche" or large tubular pasta, pungent pecorino cream, tomato, garlic, and shallots. It was topped with grated Parmesan cheese. This was a heavier entree. Each of us had one scoop of gelato. It was a nice finish to a pleasant Friday afternoon.
