We had a family dinner here with our kids. We had a reservation and stayed in the waiting room until the had an available table. The service staff is very warm and friendly. I really like that this feels like someone's home and kitchen. It's beautiful candle lit with young, hip locals. We really enjoyed our meals, I started with the Brussel sprouts and a few cocktails. The drinks are very light and refreshing, I appreciate the drinks are not too sweet and very well balanced. One child ordered the pasta AND Burger, my other child ordered the kids steak plate with fries. My husband had the little beast burger and I had the Indian Salmon. When Little Beast first opened in 2013, I lived within walking distance but never had the opportunity to go. It's changed hands since then; however, new owners Chef Monique & Chef Paul have stuck to the original focus. (They also own Cindy's across the street.) The restaurant is a charming 1911 Craftsman bungalow. Inside emits a cozy vibe & warm ambience - just as if you were in someone's home. It's also a great date night spot if you're looking for someplace romantic. Menu offerings feature New American comfort food. Dishes change seasonally, as do the creative craft cocktails but the popular Little Beast Burger is a staple. Al fresco dining is available in the enchanting back patio, and there's a cute little parlor to chill in while waiting for your table. (Reservations are highly recommended.) I passed by enroute to another engagement and saw a parking spot, so I decided to stop in for a quick drink. The darling hostess asked if I had a reservation. My expectations for this restaurant was way higher than what I got. For many years I've driven past this place and have always wanted to try it. Finally tried it for my 9th wedding anniversary. I do appreciate they have a kids menu, since we did have to bring our son with us to dinner. The craft cocktails were very yummy. I was able to get a "mocktail" since I was pregnant. The salad and bread were excellent. My steak wasn't the greatest. Even though I asked for medium rare, it was still chewy. My husband's shrimp and grits were ok as well. The service was ok in terms of how quick we got everything. Took a little longer than it should've, it wasn't that busy for a Tues night. Our waitress was nice. I've seen Little Beast on Colorado for many years and have been wanting to try it out. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience. The food and quality were good, but the dishes weren't unique or memorable. Personally, I felt the flavors of each dish lacked depth. The items we ordered were the freshly warmed bread and butter, the Elote salad, the little beast burger, the pork chop, and the beef stroganoff. My husband and I came here years ago and not sure why it took me 10 years to come back. Because it's a great little gem. The dining room is small and cozy. There is another lower level I hadn't seen before, so the dining area is relatively big. They have a full bar at the entrance. I had a couple nice cocktails. Came here on a weekday night for our anniversary. It was pretty busy but the waiter made sure we were good and kept checking in on us. We sat outside which felt really nice since it wasn't cold or too hot. I love that they had live music that day. The food came out pretty quickly and for the starter we had the ham and biscuit plate which was delicious. It had 3 different spreads to try which all went well with everything. I just wished we had an extra biscuit since we had a lot of the dip / spread left over. The salad was delicious as well and refreshing. Little Beast is a small, date night type restaurant that's in a little bungalow and makes you feel like you're in a home. Good for when you want something a little more chill and intimate with some small plates and heartier entrees. We came on a late Saturday night for an 8:45pm reservation and was surprised they had a small outdoor patio tucked away with a few other diners. We got two glasses of red wine (Malbec and Tempranillo), their $16 Wild Arugula Caesar, $33 Shrimp & Grits and $35 Beef Stroganoff for entrees. Prices aren't the cheapest, but I was happy to note that their shrimp & grits were very hearty, peppery and roasted with a big flavor and plump shrimp and buttery grits, and their beef stroganoff was made with bucatini noodles and tender strips of beef, in a lemony cream broth sauce. The changes to classic shrimp & grits and beef stroganoff were welcome and comforting, and I was happy they were fair portion sizes, compared to other dining places. They closed at 10pm and we were the last ones there, quickly finishing up my glass of red and signing our check off. Emma our waiter was nice and let me try a sample of their Malbec or Sangiovese (Malbec with its smoky black currant won me over), and she didn't do too much except check in every once in a while, while we were totally okay dining in peace. The little beast in me was happy and full after dining here. The rich, bold flavors and well-portioned entrees and red wine to boot were great. I finally got to try Little Beast after many years of wanting to give it a go. I still remember when this space was occupied by Larkin's way back when. My lady had been here a few times with her girls and she thought I would like it as well. I certainly did, she was totally right... I made a reservation for Saturday evening and requested to be seated inside. Hannah was our server that evening and she was great. She checked in on us often and was helpful throughout the night. We started off with appetizers. First was burrata & caponata ($20) which had eggplant, tomatoes, capers, raisins, baba ghanoush & toasted hazelnuts. This was a nice & refreshing appetizer that we paired with their house bread & spread ($7) whose garlic-chili butter was real tasty. The burrata was smooth and we both really liked it. The bread was crunchy & worked well with the butter which had a slight kick to it. For our entrees, I went with the grilled flat iron steak ($39) which came with grilled asparagus & a worcestershire, mushroom cognac sauce. This steak was excellent. I loved the sauce, it went really well with the flat iron. Some of the asparagus was over-grilled & burnt which I didnt really want so I ate the parts that werent. What I did love on my dish was the accompanying potato gratin. It was great. I loved the layers of creamy potatoes & cheese. It was excellent... The lady got the red wine braised short rib ($38) which was served on a bed of mashed potatoes & came with house made ham & green beans, sweet pepper & sun dried tomato chimichurri and pan jus. I had a bite of it and it was really tasty. My lady has had this dish before and couldnt pass up having it again. We ordered crispy brussels sprouts ($15) which came with red mole, toasted cinnamon, queso fresco & pickled onions. This was a nice appetizer to cut the richness of the meat dishes we ordered. The lady had a glass of malbec and I had a Mexican coke... We had a great dinner at Little Beast and would return again possibly after a menu change next season. Street parking only. We had a lovely evening at Little Beast; the atmosphere and service are truly wonderful. However, the food was a bit of a hit-or-miss for our table. I had the chicken dish, which was incredibly flavorful and well-prepared, though it leaned quite heavily on the salt. We also noticed several other dishes were oversalted as well. We tried the salmon and were surprised to find it served quite rare--we were told that's their standard preparation, but it felt a bit underdone for our preference. Lastly, the charcuterie board felt a bit small for the price point compared to other local spots. I've known about Little Beast for a long time but never ate here until a couple of nights ago. I was eager to come to this building, having fond memories of it when it first opened as a restaurant called Larkins over 20 years ago. Since we were headed to the theater in Pasadena, I snagged an early reservation for a pre-theater meal. Upon arriving, a young gentleman referenced our reservation and proceeded to seat us on the patio. When we inquired about dining indoors, he seemed put off. He checked his device and finally agreed to seat us inside. We were not fond of the front patio as it is right on a noisy street and it was cold outside. I'm still perplexed as to why a host would not ask our preference for indoor or outdoor seating, but rather choose for us. That knocked off a star right off the bat. Thankfully the rest of the evening was much, much better. Our server was so sweet. she was able to assist us in answering questions about the menu and the selection of cocktails. We immediately ordered two drinks called "We'll Sleep When We're Dead". Love the name, but loved the cocktail even more!!! We also ordered the chicken liver mousse as a starter. As I mentioned, the cocktails were perfection. They were so nicely balanced. The chicken liver mousse arrived accompanied by some slices of fresh bread. The mousse was topped with an aspic and a sprinkling of pickled onions. The mousse itself was quite good slathered on the bread but the aspic was rather tasteless and the pickled onions tended to overpower the mousse, though I understand the need to counter the fattiness with something tart. Next we split the Wild Arugula Caesar salad. We love a good Caesar so this one was intriguing as it was made with arugula instead of romaine. It also had some shaved brussels sprouts and a few slices of persimmon, all tossed in a dressing that was reminiscent of Caesar without being a Caesar dressing. For our entrées, we chose the Beef Stroganoff and the Pan Roasted Ocean Trout. The stroganoff was easily the better of the two dishes although it was oddly served with pasta rather than with add noodles. But the sauce was to die for and the meat was incredibly tender. The trout was nice but was a little dry in my opinion. But the accompanying couscous with vegetables, the onion jam and the harissa broth more than made up for the fish. Rather than picking a dessert, we chose to end our meal and head into the bar for one more of those delicious cocktails! The bartender was very nice and we enjoyed our conversations with him. As we left, we both decided that we need to return to Little Beast sooner rather than later. And we both look forward to visiting the bar again, not just to have that cocktail a few more times, but also to sample the other selections. I've been here before and I've been disappointed by the price versus quality. Tonight I made an 8:45 reservation for a special occasion. I called ahead to let them know that I was going to be late by 10 minutes. The hostess was very rude in the manner that they informed me that the kitchen was closing at nine and they wouldn't be able to see us because we were delayed by 10 minutes, even though we called ahead. This place is so cute - I wish that the food and service were worthwhile. They should not accept 8:45 reservations when they are closing at 9pm. Update: The owner's response ignores the fact that: (i) the Resy page used by the restaurant does not convey that the kitchen closes at 9pm; and (ii) it does not make clear that a party with an 8:45 reservation will be showing up to an almost-empty restaurant and will need to immediately put in their order right after being seated. For a place that charges $35 for beef stroganoff, they should realize that people want to eat in a relaxed environment - not to be rushed out of an empty restaurant while the staff is in the process of closing up. The owners should not offer a reservation time 15 minutes before a hard close - period. It may help their cash register to squeeze in a very-last-minute seating, but it will result in dissatisfied customers. Further Update: I don't normally get sucked down a rabbit hole with a bad review (check my profile), but I am so annoyed to get a response from the owner acting as if I was unreasonable for calling ahead of the reservation time and asking the restaurant to hold my reservation for an additional 10 minutes. See the screengrab from the reservation confirmation below which explicitly says, "We will hold your table for 15 minutes, so please call +1 323-341-5899 if you're running late." I did call. They did not hold the reservation as promised. Instead they acted rudely as if my request was extremely unreasonable. And then, when I posted my review, the owner doubled down - insisting that they had been reasonable to engage in a practice that directly contradicts their written policy. read more

It has been several years since I went to Little Beast. I had very good experiences there in the past, but visiting recently after many years it was not a pleasant experience. A friend and I originally went there for happy hour. It turns out there no longer is a happy hour so we were offered a seat at the bar. We decided to just stay for dinner. Although the patio was about 1/4 full, the hostess chose to seat us in the absolute back of the restaurant table. It was next to a concrete planter which large, overgrown succulents growing out of it and onto the tiny table. The plants were half dried, dusty and filled with insects. I would have asked for a different table on the spot but my friend did not want to move. My friend ordered a burger rare. It came out at a temp medium-well. He just ate it, not wanting to complain. I had a gazpacho, which was refreshing and a side of fries, which were cooked fresh and very well. Our cocktails were made well and refreshing. On our way out, I gave feedback to the hostess about the table and she just nodded once. No smile, apology, or assurance she would take care of it. I did not appreciate the curt service. At least our server was attentive and nice. Unfortunately I am not encouraged to return after this experience. read more

Cacio e pepe was very tasty but no pepe (pepper), which seemed to be substituted with chives instead? Steak frites - steak amount was quite small to a couple pieces where it almost looked like it was a side to the fries instead of the main. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The fries were too soft and I was looking for more of that crunch. And yes I understand it's an outdoor patio. But instead of having a bunch of cute plants, grow some lemon grass, citronella.. there's ways to repel them. Candles, fans? It feels weird to admit, but I first heard about this place when Aziz Ansari tweeted about it many years ago (before he was canceled!). I had bookmarked it back then in the year 2013, yet didn't try it until 2023. You'd think that waiting ten years would place my expectations on a pedestal that couldn't be reached, but in all honesty, I didn't really have any expectations. I didn't read any other reviews and went in without much anticipation. Parking is kind of a disaster here as they don't have many spaces in their lot and you have to figure out where to park in the neighborhood without getting a ticket. I was able to find a spot not too far away and when we got to the front, it seemed like we were in someone's house. Apparently that's kind of true because this used to be a home that was made into a restaurant. The hostess escorted us to our seats in the back and it was a completely different scene there than in the front. You would never know it from just looking at the front, but there is actually a lot of seating here! It's been too long since I went here to remember what I ordered, but I do remember that all of the food was delicious. It's a great place to take a date or for a special night with your significant other. You do need to make a reservation online, which is pretty easy to do using their website. Although Little Beast may be a little esoteric, it isn't shallow or pretentious like many places that are as clandestine. read more

I ordered the steelhead trout, which was fantastic and perfectly cooked, with 7 vegetable couscous as a side. My friends had the short rib and the beef stroganoff. I gotta say that beef stroganoff was some of the best I've tasted in a very long time. It was tasty, filling and just perfect for a cool fall evening. All of us vowed to come back again to try the other main dishes! We also had roasted carrots as a side (which was finished very quickly) and I also had the bread pudding as dessert. For our appetizer (Smaller plate) we ordered the Local, Wild Sea Bass Baja Ceviche, which was packed with a lot of flavor. I ordered the Shrimp and grits, I give it a 9/10. My boyfriend ordered the Grilled flat Iron, 10/10! The steak was so tender and delicious. The steak was sauteed in their housemade Worcestershire, which was AMAZING. We also ordered the Brussels Sprouts, which I rate 8/10. The only reason I rate this place a 4/5 is that we did notice that they did take a while to bring us our food, I also noticed that happened to the couple next to us. What a date night gem this cute little spot is! Little Beast was an unexpected surprise when my husband and I came here for a low key date night. Our server was so amazing. She constantly checked in with us and was very attentive all night. Our food was running a bit late and she let us know the timing. She was super sweet. The tomato and burrata salad was surprisingly delicious. The pesto brought out the tomato's refreshing flavor to the creamy burrata. The duck confit was well done. Typically, it's a bit dry. But this duck confit was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The roasted chicken was amazing. I dislike chicken a lot, but I enjoyed every bite. The sauce was aromatic and very tasty. Definitely a super cute date spot and wasn't busy on a Friday night. It looks like their menu often changes which is nice if you're always looking for fresh new dishes! read more

Not bad but not my favorite. Service and ambiance were fantastic, we were seated promptly and the server was lovely and attentive. Food and drinks came out quickly, our group of 4 ordered 2 wines and 2 beers, simple enough. Lemony, Tuscan Bean Dip - really nice, light, and fresh, a perfect savory starter and the tomato bread was a great addition Cacio e Pepe - not much pepper at all, definitely more like a carbonara. Good for a few bites, heavy for a whole meal. Fish & Chips - very good but A LOT of fish, it's funny in the US there's usually complaints about the pieces of fish in the dish being small or thin compared to the UK, but these were huge chunks of fish, so that's a plus. Flat Iron Steak - too much worcestershire, potatoes were nice and very soft, but the steak was way too overwhelmed by the sauce and it was overcooked. Asked for medium rare but more like a medium well and very hard to cut - should've tried the short rib. Malfadini & Mushroom Ragout - our friends had each of these and enjoyed them. Overall nice atmosphere and staff but not too keen on the actual food. read more
