Allow me to paint the picture of my weekly visit for you... Upon entering the office, I'm welcomed by the friendliest possible smiles from those who occupy the front desk. They have always done everything to make sure scheduling, transactions, etc., run smoothly. In addition, the calming musical scores, and aromas, relax me immediately. I had never had acupuncture before last April (2018), so going in, I didn't know what to expect. Dr. Amy Wolf is brilliant at what she does, and truly cares about overall well-being. We have devised health "plans" to help with minor muscle spasms and abdominal pains, as well as attempting to connect eastern medicine to a certain dietary lifestyle. Essentially, her "needle work" is gentle, as she only wants me to be comfortable. Dr. Wolf will also use other tools to help with our goals, including Moxibustion, Tui Na Massage, and even cupping. My overall health has improved, and I no doubt, believe that Dr. Wolf is a part of it. After my appointments with Dr. Wolf, I'm fortunate to move on to a phenomenal massage therapist, Heather Hug, who has also helped me tremendously in many ways, whether it be focusing on lower back issues related to my swimming and golf, or just simply using a method of massage that allows me to zone out! Heather always has a smile, and always wants to know what needs to be done to make my body feel better. It's not just about going through the motions for her, but rather the desire to make sure I'm as healthy as I can be - and that I leave the office feeling better, and more relaxed, than when I walked in. I would highly recommend Heather for massage therapy - both for relaxation, and therapeutic goals - and I will vouch for her performance! The "team effort" at Herb and Ohm is something that I boast about to my friends, and anyone I run into, who is looking for these types of treatments. Being able to focus on multiple issue within one office is extremely helpful, and sets them apart from most. From the wonderful ladies at the front desk, to Dr. Wolf, to Heather, once I enter, it's as though I'm able to put my well-being in their hands, total comfort and trust. I initially stopped by Herb and Ohm since I had some digestive issues, knowing I was feeling nauseous, I wasn't sure what to except - since each acupuncturist different, they utilize different tools and techniques. Prior to this I started seeing one other acupuncturist within Palmer Square area, but for some reason I had an itch to look elsewhere. My first appointment with Ioana, I was skeptical as usual, even though I had many acupuncture sessions before, sometimes it comes down to the acupuncturist if you can connect with em. I for one do not, trust everybody especially knowing I had a bad experience with acupuncture before. However, Ioana assured me everything was gonna be fine, she listened to what I had to say, made some suggestions, knowing I was dealing with a lot of issues at the time, with family/friends and all of this has impacted my digestive system knowing I was stressed out as a result I couldn't sleep well, I had anxiety ect. All in all, after number of acupuncture sessions, my digestive system started to improve, I improved my diet as well, but also took some herbs which were suggested by Ioana. Additionally, I tried not to focus on the past so much - I needed to let go because all the pain I was dealing with was causing me grief and it was affecting my immune system/digestive system. I did meditate as well which kept me grounded and focused. A month or so two afterwards, I ended up injuring my lower back again. I thought it was L4+L5 again but then found out it was S1 I believe or the tailbone. I thought I'd have to go twice a week, knowing I was in some discomfort, however, didn't have too. Once a week was enough knowing Ioana used various treatments alongside acupuncture to treat my lower back. Overall, I have been feeling much much better, thanks to Ioana - she's very professional, top notch, she understands which tools/treatments to use, how to utilize them accordingly so one can recover/heal faster. I'm very thankful I found Herb and Ohm everyone there has been very professional from front desk to the rest of the acupuncturist. Carissa is amazing! She has changed my life from the first day I met her. I had always wanted to try acupuncture but was embarrassed to go for weight loss. I would hear that it's used more for people who have some type of pain or injury, never weight loss, which was my issue along with chronic fatigue. I didn't have pain but I really needed help! I've been on every diet, worked with trainers, exercised and ate right and still I'd end up gaining it all back and then some. Since 2012, I've been dealing with almost debilitating RSI (repetitive strain injury) from sitting at my desk on my computer upwards of 10 hours a day. Prior to meeting Amy, I would see a massage therapist every few weeks to unlock my muscles and work out knots. Ultimately, the pain came back almost as soon as I got back to my desk. In 1 session with Amy, after 4 years of pain I was better--the pain was gone! She performed acupuncture & cupping on my seized/contracted muscles and they released & stayed that way. I saw her again and she worked on my range of motion in my neck. I told her "It's not my neck, don't waste my session there, focus on my shoulder blades" --because I had been in pain for so long in my back, I didn't even realize how bad my neck had become. Amy performed 2 Eastern medicine techniques, (I can't pronounce, nor spell) my neck is far more relaxed and my range of motion much improved and relaxed. I can't change the long hours I work, I thought how 'crunched' my spine, shoulders and neck had become was just the cost of doing business and getting older. I was treated by Ioana Vanca who works at Herb + Ohms. Last winter, the time of high CoVid19 season, a Chinese Medicine Doctor, Dr Sha, kindly referred me Ioana Vanca, a NCCAOM certified acupuncturists to my house to treat my back pain. In two visits, Ioana used multiple Chinese Medicine skills to fix my back problems. The skills were the needle to unease the muscle spasms on my upper and middle back. Her finger pulpation and knowledge on the back muscles are amazing. In addition to acupuncture, she used fix cupping and scraping (guasha) to remove the muscle toxins. I felt a huge back relief with just one visit. On her second visit, Ioana used acupuncture and moving cupping to further treat my back. With her two visits, I can feel 99 percent recovery. My back issue has been caused by the long years of office sitting, a very common work-related issue. I have been doing Yoga yo keep my body flexible, but my weak core muscles gives in from time to time and causes the back pain, a very painful and inconvenient situation. In the same time, Chad, my daughter's boy friend had a flare of back issue when he lifted a heavy object. The use of heat pad relieved some pain, but the pain persisted. He said it usually takes a month to recover. I asked Ioana to treat Chad's back. Ioana treated Chad twice and Chad's back pain issue was over. I have been to many acupuncturists in the past but finding Amy to help me through some difficult personal issues as well as chronic headaches has made her an integral part of my healing process. In full disclosure, Amy (the main acupuncturist) is my sister. I have seen her transition her career from a high-power accountant at a Big Four accounting firm to an eastern medicine practitioner. Despite her extensive training in, and passion for, eastern medicine (four year full-time education, countless exams, clinical hours, third-party seminars, etc.) I have always been very skeptical about acupuncture. No matter what Amy or her patients (who rave about their experience with Amy) have told me, I just wasn't interested and didn't understand how it could work. Yesterday, I was playing with my nieces, tripped, and re-injured my rib. The pain was radiating in my chest, back and neck. I have been suffering from symptoms of endometriosis since I was 12 years old. I cannot say enough positive things about Herb + Ohm, specifically Amy and Carissa! It took 8 years and 6 different GI Doctors to properly diagnose me with GI issues that I was told I would have the rest of my life. To see if there was a better alternative, besides medication and "learning to live with it," I started doing some research and found that acupuncture was a potential solution. I figured it would not hurt to try and I'm so glad I did! At my first consultation, Amy was great about listening to my concerns and offering suggestions. I first went to see Jennah in December of 2019 because I was suffering from a constant ringing in my left ear and was told there was nothing I could do by my ENT. Dr. Rivera has played an instrumental and pivotal in not only my physical health by my mental health as well. Amy is a true professional and such a pleasure to work with, as she personalizes each of her services to client's needs and goals. I came to Herb + Ohm for preventative skin care. I am 27, but wanted to try SkinPen to help start an anti-aging regimen. I really loved the results I saw with the treatments and I feel like my skin looks smoother, more even and the fine lines have become less noticeable. In addition, Amy was available for consult on all of my skin care questions -- she even researched a few products at length for me, too. While in this beautiful city visiting a dear friend, I arrived with neck & shoulder pain that had started about 6 months ago, and was now affecting my sleep and daily activities. I cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Amy Wolf at Herb + Ohm! I went to Dr. Wolf for fertility help. After having two surgeries to correct a condition called Asherman's Syndrome, I was left with a very thin uterine lining that no amount of estrogen was helping. Out of desperation I decided to give acupuncture a try, and literally within 1.5 months my lining went from a 4 to a 7. With the help of Dr. Wolf I got a pregnant naturally after my fertility doctor expressed doubts I would ever be able to conceive. Every session was such a positive experience.
