Wow! This strip mall restaurant located next to a Salvation Army really knows how to put out some great food. Tonight we had the Beef Salad, Red Curry with Pumpkin - Chicken, the Mongolian Thai Style - Pork, and Thai Iced Tea. The Beef Salad is amazing. The beef is plentiful and the dressing is perfect. The salad is a perfect start to a hot day's evening meal or for a complete lunch as the salad is plenty for two as a starter. The Red Curry with Pumpkin - Chicken is a nice offering. The pumpkin really makes the dish which has a very mild spice to it. The bowl is big enough for two to share. The Mongolian Thai Style - Pork was nicely prepared, but for me, the white onions were a bit over powering for my taste today. I do believe the dish was prepared per the menu and I thought I'd give it a try, but this one is just not for me. The Thai Ice Tea is perfect and not overly sweet like found at many Thai places. Service was Outstanding from walking in the door until walking out after our meal. It is really rare to find such attentative service these days, so the owners must be proud of their team. Every time we go to Herb and Spice we are met with kindness and thoughtfulness. We brought our two year old with us last night and asked for a water for him and they put tape around the lid so he wouldn't spill. They offered plastic utensils and paper plate to accommodate him. Herb and Spice is located in Simi Valley on a small strip mall by East Los Angeles street next to a variety of other stores selling your daily needs from 99 cents etc.. As a Thai restaurant, if say their most stand out dish is their Pad Thai which is a little more classic than others, fresh ingredients galore and nuts enhanced by a little sweetness and the taste of Thailand. Pad See is great too but seems to be more average than exceptional. They have many other dishes on the menu and prices are average and not too expensive. They also have a seafood combo which is similar to any other Thai food restaurants. You can dine at their restaurant or take out, plenty of parking and also accessible to the 118 Freeway. One of my top Thai spots in simi. I like the fried fish. It's super crispy and packed with so much flavor. The beef combo is really good as well and is actually a decent amount of food for one person. I also love the sauces that it comes with. Chicken tasted like it had been microwaved into jerky. Called them with our issue , and they absolutely did not apologize for the quality of food. Our first time here and our party of four enjoyed a quick early dinner. The dishes appeared to be more home style, although still the commercialized menu for the American palate. The only thing I noticed was that most of the dishes were on the sweeter side, raising a concern for lots of hidden sugars. Service was outstanding; our server was so polite and attentive. I have been ordering from this Herb and Spice for years. I get the same thing, spicy fried rice and a Thai Tea. Ordered tonight from doordash and when the food arrived I was extremely disappointed, my fried rice came with absolutely NO spice, they completely forgot the spices all together. Usually their spicy fried rice will include chili flakes is a fried color. My rice is 50% white rice. My wife ordered yellow curry and her chicken was 50% fatty chicken that was not editable. Also, my Large $7 thai team was small and full of ice making even less drink. Where my disappointment really came in was when I called the restaurant and a gentleman answered. I explain the situation. After putting me on hold for 5 minutes he came back on the line and asked if my rice came with bell peppers. I replied saying yes but it's missing the spice. He said.. that is our spicy fried rice so you got exactly what you ordered, if you want to drive here and bring it back we will add the spice that was missed and give it back to you. Also he said that the regular size drink is now their large. Service here is normally amazing and helpful. Not sure what has changed in the last month but looks like we will have to find a new Thai restaurant in simi. read more

The food was great, but the service was pathetic. I was given a gift card for Herb and Spice Thai. The gift card was paid for and issued at the restaurant and was given to me by a friend. I had forgotten I had the card until I discovered it in my dresser drawer. So I took my wife to eat there. When I arrived, I present the gift card and asked for the card balance. I was told that the balance would not be determined until my bill was presented at the end of the meal. We ordered and enjoyed the food. The bill was presented in the amount of $47.19. I handed them the gift card to pay. A few minutes later, I was told that the card balance had been $50.00, but that it had expired. I questioned their process since the card was issued at their restaurant. They had been paid the $50.00 when the card was purchased but refused to honor it because it had expired. I told them there was no expiration date on the card. I had no alternative but to pay the bill. Sadly, they made money when the card was purchased and then again when I had to pay for the meal. They had great food, but if this is the way the restaurant operates, they don't deserve my business. I plan to never eat their again. read more

Foods pretty good but I got a DoorDash order and the restaurant took my ice coffee wrapped it in a plastic bag and stuck the cup sideways inside the bag with all the food. Naturally ice coffee poured everywhere. When I called the restaurant they actually said they do that on purpose so the door-dasher doesn't forget the drink. My deceased brother-in-law introduced us to this place. And we've dined here a few times because we love the food, the people, and the service. However, we had a very disappointing experience today. I traveled from the east coast to LAX; my sister picked me up at the airport, then we drove to Simi (home). About half an hour to Simi (around 5:30pm), we ordered 4 items online because we were thinking, the order will be ready by the time we get to Simi. The system advised us that the order will be ready at 6:14pm. We arrived at the restaurant a couple minutes before 6pm but I told my sister to go inside and ask, maybe it'll be ready earlier. The order isn't ready and it seemed they were not aware of it. My sister showed the order, and the Lady said "Oh you ordered it online" then she said it will be ready in 20 minutes. So we patiently waited. 30 minutes passed by, we started to wonder what's taking long. I started to fidget and asked another person who's also waiting. I believed we were there ahead of her and she also ordered hers online but she had more than double the number of items we ordered. She was worried too because she still has a long drive home and has a meeting at 7:30pm. Her order was finally ready a few minutes past 7pm. And we're still waiting! When I asked earlier how much longer, I was told they're waiting for 3 more items, what?! We've been waiting for almost an hour and only one of the 4 items we ordered is ready?! Meanwhile people who came in (to dine in) after us were getting their food in a timely manner. I'm very disappointed, they didn't even come up to us to apologize or keep us posted. The one guy only apologized because I went to see him and started following up. We finally got our order around 7:20-7:30pm. To add to this very bad experience, our food was not good, the chow mien was bland and dry, the other noodle item we ordered had chicken that's too hard. Their chicken bbq was/were very dry. And we paid almost $80 for 4 items. I told the family, we're never going back to this place. We could've gone somewhere and have been able to eat dinner the whole time we were waiting. read more

I've been eating at Herb & Spice for many years without a problem with MSG. I had been told they didn't use MSG. That has changed. I had a severe reaction, had to rush to the restroom. When I asked the waiter if they were now using MSG, I was told they are, but I could request no MSG. That would probably mean I couldn't have any of their soups because they're made ahead of time. read more

I rushed to get my food because I was hungry. My boyfriend went in..got my food and when I opened the bag there was no utensils inside. After noticing the poor service, I went to check the food my noodles smelled bland and there was no spice added. Mad af I went back inside and they fixed my order right away. I noticed how sad it looked inside and you can tell they don't care about the place. I finally was able to dig into my food after all that craziness and the food was terrible!! My soup had large chunks of tomatoes and mushrooms in it?! I've never seen hot and sour soup like that before.. Ridiculous. I will never be coming back here. Chicken sauté was excellent generous portion of attention to detail on everything there were sweet marinated cucumbers excellent peanut sauce the chicken was wrapped in foil and it was moist. We did get the spring rolls some places have these tiny pinky finger size rolls these were big. They were super tasty and were not greasy. Next was the pad Thai with shrimp Big portion lots of shrimp very very good. I got the large war wonton soup outstanding lots of wontons all kinds of spices and bok choy very satisfying. We ate everything we are definitely coming back here for sure! You will not be disappointed. Seemed overall that there was a significant attention to details. The food was hot and the flavors were outstanding. Even a little paper doily that goes under the spring rolls to prevent them from burning the Styrofoam. That paper was not soaked with oil.
