Our server was very nice and professional. They were very busy with take out orders constantly coming in through the phone and pick ups, but he would check in with us to see if we needed anything and reful waters. Food was excellent, not too salty, doesn't seem like they use msg or not a lot of it if they do. Nothing was bland, good seasoning on the dishes and came out hot from the wok. Portion sizes are huge and easily shareable and good deal for the price, even large dishes. Restaurant was clean, and I enjoy the decor. I did take out so didn't get any good photos and not sure about service, but really surprised by how good and authentic the food was! The inside looked really nice as well. I ordered from the lunch menu and it was really affordable. My order included the beef and snow pea with white rice and hot and sour soup and orange chicken with corn soup. Both entrees and soups were really good! Didn't love the white rice so much because it dry. But overall only spent $25 for a decent amount of food. Can't wait to try to dine in soon. read more

I have to say that this location puts out some pretty good Chinese food, all made to order. The food not sitting on a steam table like there are other competitors. There's a few other locations in San Fernando Valley, but this is close to my residence.. I've come at different times and days during the week never the same day always different. This is a solid Chinese Restaurant in Simi Valley. It's probably overlooked by many because of the location. The food is made fresh and the quantities are large. The one item we did not like was the dim sum appetizer plate because the dumplings were a little tough and chewy, but the bbq bao was good and soft. The won ton soup was good and large enough for a family of 5-6. They charge extra for rice which I think should be standard and complimentary. Overall, it's a nice and clean restaurant that services freshly cooked food. Tables are a bit small, so don't recommend coming in large groups. read more

In Simi Valley to visit our new grandson, and trying takeout from this local Chinese restaurant before heading back home. We'll be familiarizing ourselves with some of Simi's local eateries. After reading so many favorable Yelp reviews I thought this would be a good place to start. Not quite up to the hype we had hoped for. Stepping inside around 1:15 to a totally empty space, we were given a friendly welcome by the lone server. Our menu choices were 3 lunch specials which all included chicken corn soup and brown rice. We also both ordered their Thai iced tea. The Consensus: Sesame Chicken: Not my favorite sesame chicken recipe, cooked in a very dark sauce. $11.99 3/5 Steamed Chicken With Mixed Vegetables: Somewhat bland is all I need to state. $11.99 3/5 Chicken Chop Suey: Again, bland and nothing special. $11.99 3/5 Chicken Corn Soup: Not bad but a bit too salty. 3.5/5 Brown Rice: Too dry. 2/5 2 Thai Iced Tea: The best taste of the day here. $7.98 4/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: It seemed cozy enough and very clean. 3/5 We probably wouldn't return anytime soon. read more

This is my first time at this restaurant located on Madera and Royal. The restaurant use to be a take away only location until recently remolded to be a sit down restaurant. The restaurant offers an extensive menu broken down by types of entrees. The menu even includes a couple choices of dim sum. As my friends have been to the restaurant multiple times, I did not get a chance to get through all the offerings. I settled on Chow Fun, wide rice noodles with shrimp. The noodles were good. My only complaint was there were too many onions in the dish. When I looked at my friend's plates, they too had a lot of onions. A cheap filler. Next time, I would request no onions in my dish. Our server was very attentive. We were super thirsty, so we appreciated his attentiveness in making sure our glasses were full. Plus getting us sharing plates, before even asking. Five star! This is now my "go to" Chinese restaurant. Everything tastes fresh and no "chewy bits" in the meat like some places. My favorite dish is the mango chicken, which is great if you like the combination of sweetness with your meat. Other standard items are also top notch: egg flower soup, sweet and pungent chicken, and beef chow mein (soft type) to name a few. The vegetables are always cooked to that perfect "tender but crisp" sweet spot. Must-try dishes: * Garlic Fried Rice: Honestly, it's the star of the show. Especially great! * Kung Pao Chicken: Perfectly balanced heat. * Beef with Snap Peas: Super fresh and flavorful. Jasmine tea is also an excellent complement to your meal. Now that the weather is (finally) warming up, my thoughts turn to fresh, crispy, savory salads. One of my favorites is Chinese Chicken Salad. Apparently, my search will take some time to find fulfillment. I noticed that there was a chicken salad on their menu, but no information on what the ingredients would be. My idea of perfection for this dish includes sugar snap peas, cashews or peanuts, mandarin oranges, green onions, Romaine lettuce with a hint of cabbage, and chicken. Then the crowning glory - a tangy dressing with ginger, soy, sesame, and a hint of sweetness, and crispy maifun noodles. The maifun and the mandarin oranges complement the chicken so well. It's a party for the taste buds. Unfortunately, Gourmet Palace went for a much simpler preparation. The lettuce was very fresh, with a hint of red cabbage and shredded carrots. The chicken topping the greens was plentiful and tasty. Won ton strips and ginger rounded out the main ingredients. There was no prepared dressing, which really proved disappointing. Sides of vinegar and soy sauce didn't makeup for the salad dressing taste I was craving. On the other hand, Dear Hubby, who went out to order the food and bring it home, ordered Sweet & Sour Chicken for himself. He shared a sample with me. He really enjoyed it, and I can understand why. The chicken pieces were substantially sized, covered with a light and tasty coating, which went well with the sauce. I caught a few pieces of green pepper. I don't know if pineapple was part of the dish. Ideally, it would be. Verdict - freshly prepared ingredients deserve an in-house experience next time. I would like to try their dumplings (DH forgot to order some), especially. I'd also want to try a shrimp dish as it's hard to get that right at home, versus with a trained chef at the stove. The service was good, but there were some things I didn't like about the place. First, none of our food came out hot? I'd rather burn my tongue than get cold food. The Hot & Sour soup was good but it wasn't hot! The only food that came out hot were our Shu Mai & Dumplings. Also, I found this place to be very expensive?
