This was my first time bringing my car for service to this dealership and I am so happy! My appointment was at 9 for an oil change and a couple of recalls that came out on my car. I made the appointment online and requested a rental for the day. I arrived at 8:30 and Kristin was more than helpful even though I was early. Because it was my first visit my oil change and tire rotation were free. And I sat in the waiting area for about 5 minutes and enterprise was there to pick me up and bring me to my rental. Simple I know, but I had a Hyundai previously and they gave me a hard time about a rental even if I paid out of pocket?? So they had me wait like 3 hours and 3 hours on your only day off is a lot of time lost. Really hate Hyundai village I brought it in for a coil misfire a part that cost $16 I had the diagnostic from a local gas station but they wanted to charge me $150 for their diagnostic and he said he would waive it and just charge me labor. They wanted to charge $500 for labor so I told them to pack up my car and he tried to charge my the $150 he said to waive. Hate them. Thanks Chevy for making my day easy! read more

Bought a truck from these guys in 2021, and at 64,000 miles it is at transmission failure, it is a perfectly cared for truck, and there is no excuse for this kind of issue. Asked the manager if he has seen this before and his response was "I see all sorts of stuff". I don't know how to break it to him that that means these cars suck. Nice people in both sales and service departments but make no mistake, they will rip you off just as often as any other used car dealer. You will pay a premium for a used car here but you won't get value or any kind of backing up from Herb Chambers. I bought a used Equinox and paid thousands more than a similar one at used car dealers nearby, and within a month I started having problems. Brought it back and they found two solenoids that had to be replaced at $361 each. Then they charged me $318 for a tire sensor, and $142 for a headlight bulb. Total bill came to about $1,300 because they also charge hundreds of dollars for a diagnostic as soon as you give them the car. I didn't mind paying for a headlight and tire sensor, but they totally gouged me in the price. And it's very apparent that they cleared the codes so the engine light would be off long enough to sell the car and pass inspection, and then it was OUT THE DOOR. I've bought from other Herb Chambers dealers and always had good treatment, but save your money and buy your cars elsewhere, you'll save thousands. Herb Chambers has gone downhill. read more

In 2023, I bought a 2019 Chevrolet Trax at the Herb Chambers Danver location with 19,000 miles and has been nothing, but a mistake! The vinyl molding on top of the car doesn't stay in place. Was replaced twice by Herb Chambers Chevrolet in 2024 after the Salesperson helped me out. Still flutters in the wind driving at 50 - 60 mph. Now at 41,022 miles, the AC stopped working. Are you kidding me. All of this is out of warranty with only 41,022 miles. This car was likely a used "piece of crap" and probably had issues from day 1. A lesson learned. read more

I have been buying trucks and cars from this dealership since 1984 and noticed the big rip off happening now I traded a pickup and did my homework at finding the trade in price and finding what the truck was worth it was worth 24k my bottom line on it was 21k because I know they need room for profit too when they told me that its only worth 16k because they could only sell it for 19k with all the high pressure I folded and settled for 17k after the sale a week later I went back to get my inspection done and had to wait I walked outside to see the used cars and there was my pickup truck with a sale price of 23.500 I felt so taken and ripped off did they really have to make over 6k on me I guess this is where they make there big money don't know if I'll be back read more

I had a lease with this dealership, and when I went to buy out my lease and purchase the vehicle, the sales person and finance person openly MOCKED the car and laughed that at the price and for that car, I need a warranty.. immediately walked away from them, I did end up getting a lease at a different Herb Chambers, and they were wonderful read more

Every touch point has been lousy. I purchased a 2023 High Country. I was promised (albeit verbally) all kinds of bells and whistles that I later learned I paid for (shame on me for taking his word though). When driving with my 10 y/o daughter on 495, the brand new, 90k car just stopped. I had taken it in multiple times to be fixed for the same issue and was told it was fixed. The last time I was even told, the oil engine light was MY fault for idling too long?! It needed and entirely NEW ENGINE. So, a lemon. Now the true frustrations begin. I've even had to involve a lawyer, never thought it my life I would. I figure the lawyer expense is less than the more than 30k I'm being told I'll lose for not taking the Lemon vehicle back. There many more layers, car took months to fix and in that time had to go in for multiple rentals. I've had to pay for towing, etc. This all for a 2023 high country that stopped. Heart gone from the body...NO working engine. Herb Chambers seems to have more power as a massive dealership and all the men talking down to me, trying to take advantage and mansplain. I contacted Herb Chambers Chevrolet of Danvers regarding selling them my 2006 Corvette which is in near perfect condition with about 53,750 miles on it. I utilized their website's trade/sell valuation tool and was given a value of approximately $18,300. This was relatively close to the Kelly Blue Book value, though close enough to continue working with them. When I went to the dealer the very next day for their inspection of the car they dropped the offer by $4,000 to about $14,300 for no apparent reason and despite acknowledging the high quality of the car. This was essentially a shady car dealer bait & switch tactic that should be a thing of the past. I would not recommend working with this dealership at all. If you can't trust them to honor their own valuation tool then why would you trust them with anything else. So i went to go look at a truck at Herb Chambers, that was listed on Cargurus a 2017 Ford F350 Lariat to only find out that was a 2022 and sold false advertisement off to a bad start. So instead the sale person said we have another truck that was actually a 2017 Ford F350 Lariat that i might be interested in. The sales person took me to see the truck but the truck was on the lift going thru their inspection policy before it can be sold. So I told the sale person i was very interested in buying the truck once its ready to be driven. Went back to the sale person desk ran some numbers so i knew what the truck would cost. Sale person said i will call you once its ready. The following day i get a call the truck was sold!!!!! .. I was told first come first severed. I told the person who called that is awful to get me out their and to be told its sold. The old saying a satisfied customer tells 3 an unsatisfied customer tells 9.. For the safety of you, your family and friends, avoid herb chambers. They inspect their own vehicles, passing otherwise failing problems. They don't invest in the safety of their vehicles. Anything to make a buck. My vehicles (gave them a second chance regrettably) had nothing but issues. They claimed were "wear n tear" within weeks of my purchase. The ECU went on 1, leaving me with no turn signals or hazard lamps. I was quoted 1200$ less than 3 weeks from my purchase. The next car had a bad clutch. They refused to even acknowledge the issue existed. A friend of mine had hid transmission go within the first couple of weeks as well. So I bought a Dodge Challenger from here, I got a check engine light and went to their service center because I got the extended warranty, the service center was almost adamant about not helping me, even tho I bought the car from here with the warranty, they sent me across the street to the dodge dealership where I didn't buy the car, claiming that it's a dodge car and has to be fixed at the dodge dealership, they gave me the run around and basically had me running from dealership to dealership about 3 times until a lady finally overheard and helped me get some results, the car was left with this dealership and I was given a rental car, later I get a call from the dealership apparently an animal got into my engine bay and ate the wires, and they said that wasn't covered under my extended warranty and I had to go through my insurance instead, meaning I had to return the rental then get a new rental through my insurance, the car sat in the dealership for a little over a week maybe two weeks before I was able to get it back, but when I got it back there was noticeable damage in the front of the car, so in short they were very reluctant to assist me and in the end damaged my car. And to top it all off the fuel economy ok my dash said like 13 mpg when I got it back which tells me that it was driven pretty hard, and they also left the animal chewed engine cover in the passenger seat rather than throw it away since they replaced the engine cover read more

My first experience with them was absolutely horrendous. I reached out via their web form about a car they had on the lot. Because the dealership was effectively closed to the public at the time, and I don't live in the same state, I received an email back from some young girl that basically said "we don't want your money." (to be fair, it stated that the dealership was closed and they couldn't sell to out of state residents - both of which were actually false). I ended up buying a car from them and got an ok price for it. The process was a bit clunky because of changes due to COVID, but overall manageable and received reasonably courteous service. The finance office was nothing but upsell pressure to take a warranty of any kind, including the absolutely laughable comment that I could get it for the same price as "his family discount" because I refused immediately at full price. They also wanted to sell other "protections" as well and I wasn't having any of it. Couldn't get him to understand that it simply wasn't happening and he kept the pressure on... HARD. They also steered me into a very specific bank's finance option because they got the best back-end kickback and NOT because it was the best deal they could get for ME. I specifically asked them to shop the interest rate they got from a lender I don't like back to a lender that I do and was told "no." I couldn't get a better rate on my own, so I went with what they offered. The car I bought had sat on their lot for about nine months. Going through a full New England winter, it developed water spots on the paint that were never addressed and resulted in them etching into the finish. I tried broaching this topic with the dealership many, many times and they would not even acknowledge it. At the same time that I was trying to get the water spot issue addressed, we were discussing trading the car out for a different one. They not only low-balled me badly on the trade value of my car at a time when used car prices are through the roof, they also tried using shady practices to get me to buy by calling and telling me that they had another buyer lined up for the vehicle we were discussing. When I pushed back on them HARD about the original car's issues and them not standing behind what they sell, all communications ceased. Stay away. just so you know - this garage charged double for evaluations and repairs over the past year. and said I had a total of $8000 to do in repairs - what a racket.  The service desk reps must be working on commission.  One time they said I needed to replace the radiator - I had a local mechanic check it and he said he couldn't make it leak... and it's been working fine for over a year now. I have been a customer for over 6 years and had relatively good service until this past spring.  Now that I've found that Sudbay in Gloucester is far better at diagnosing, repairing, providing courteous customer service and their prices are affordable - less than half the cost of yours - I will NEVER RETURN to any Herb Chambers dealership for anything. These guys are running a scam. I went through the online process for setting up a deal ahead of time and was given a quote that had "MSRP", the "Dealer Price", lease terms, taxes and fees. Then I dealt with a super shady sales manager named Corey Upton. He first pretended like he didn't have any of the deal information I was quoted, and gave me a price $5k more than the "dealer price" that I was quoted. When I called him on it, he suddenly found my quote, but then gave a 20 minute speech about how they weren't bound by the quote and refused to honor it. I read the fine print of the quote out loud to him. It said that the quote was subject to verification of information. Nowhere did it say the the quote was subject to the dealer deciding to change the price once you come in. This is such an obvious bait-and-switch. I ended up filing a complaint with the FTC (ReportFraud.ftc.gov) and the BBB (https://www.bbb.org/file-a-complaint/search). read more

My husband and I bought an Equinox in 2015 and had bad experiences with the service department from the start. 1. Any oil change took 2-3 hours 2. When our car started randomly stalling, we were instructed to bring the car in every 1k miles for an oil consumption test. After 6 VISITS (and HOURS of sitting at the dealership waiting), we were told they weren't sure what to do next to fix it. 3. When our car started making a weird noise we brought it in and they didn't have any rental cars available. They would reimburse $35/day through Enterprise. They refused to reimburse us after we decided not to move forward with the repairs, after the car was sitting there for 2 days. A VERY small cost to Herb Chambers to make a customer happy, they instead fought with me over the phone because we took the car elsewhere. Will never purchase from another Herb Chambers again. Nothing but great things to say here. John Puleo is a great guy, I have purchased 4 RAMS from him at Herb Chambers, I highly recommend John! I tell all my friends to go there. I've seen him so much he's now Uncle John! Smooth negotiations and a pleasant experience each time. Annoying Engine lights are not fun or a sign of good tidings ahead... Well, it happened on a Sunday. I was running errands and the engine light on my company car was starving for some attention. My first thought was great now what is going on and how am I going to get this fixed. I was just imagining all the hoops I would need to drive thru. Monday morning I called the company fleet service and was informed to take it to a Buick dealer since it was still under warranty. I called the dealer to schedule and appointment for the next day. I would have a co-worker pick me up in the morning....later that afternoon work jumped up and well I missed the appointment the next morning.... Ah......fudge....! The following morning I drove up to the dealer. I told them that I missed my appointment. The service rep wasn't sure on when a tech could get to it. I told them that I could leave it and pick it up whenever. I was happy to see they were flexible and accommodating. Score one for customer service... Later that afternoon I received a call saying the car was all set. It seemed that a part was defective causing the vacuum seal to leak. The tech replaced it and everything was good to go. I drove up after work and picked up the car. The check out was pretty quick and painless. The car now has now engine light and seems to be running better too. High regards to Scott, he got my cobalt in very fast with my overtime schedule. I bought it here in 05. Did one oil change and never came back. They charged me to fill a full wiper fluid which I just filled in the parking lot. This is my second ignition switch replacement. My Nissans needed none. Very expensive. I passed on the $70 replacement key. My locksmith did it for $3. Almost $400 for the ignition. Scott is very helpful, this place is fair at best. read more

Kept our car that was sent for collision work by insurance company there for over a month and the insurance didn't even cover a rental for that long. Insurance tried calling collections on us for rental car they were supposed to pay for and agreed to pay for ad our truck was sitting there for a month without being touched. A month and to weeks goes by and they call to say we can total the car or have them fix it which will take another month or two. We loved the car but to save us the headache we had them total it and got a crappy used car, as it was the most I professional process all the way from the accident and law enforcement to the insurance company to herb chambers. I don't have a Chevie. I wisely bought my one and only ever new car, a 2009 Saturn Outlook, about 10 minutes before Saturn folded (**tips**). This girl has foresight. This left me and every other Saturn owner who still had warranties seeking out dealerships that would service our trusty soon-to-be dinosaurs. Herb Chambers is one of a handful of Authorized Saturn Service Providers in MA, and by far my favorite of the bunch. I've always found this location to be friendly, efficient and much more thorough than other service providers. They've handled my regular maintenance (oil changes, tire rotations, brakes etc...) as well as more one-off concerns for the past few years. I recently went in for my 45,000 mile maintenance and had some concerns about a persistent air leak in one of my tires. The soapy water test (scientific!) turned up nothing so I asked them to please keep checking. They went the extra mile to find and patch the problem even when it wasn't immediately obvious and they had me on my way. You can make service appointments through their website, but sometimes they take awhile to respond to online requests so I'd recommend just placing the call. I've rarely had to wait more than a few days for an appointment and overall, they've been super accommodating to my schedule. Added points for the comfy waiting room if you plan to hang out while they fix up your whip. Well stocked with free water & coffee, 2 vending machines for snackage and a TV (just make sure you grab the remote early so you don't get stuck watching Fox News with your fellow patrons). read more

I purchased a used vehicle from Herb Chambers Danvers less than a year ago. For starters which is very minimal (but had to take a day off from work) I brought the car back after a few months because the tires kept losing pressure, had to keep filling them up every week, what a pain. Not even really sure what was wrong but whatever they did fixed the problem. A few months later asked to make an appointment because the side detection system was not working. They wanted my car for 3 days to figure out the problem. Not sure about anybody else but unfortunately in my situation I need a car to get to work and couldn't afford a rental. Needless to say I took it somewhere myself and it was fixed in a few hours and haven't had an issue since. Later I brought the car in for the standard maintenance, had an appointment, said I would wait because it would only take 1 1/2 hours, instead was there for 4 hours. A week later brought the car back to have the brakes looked at because they were squealing. There for 2 hours to tell me that I need new brakes and rotors and if I want them to do the job, it would cost $1500. Now I understand used cars will have some issues, but I guess that is what I thought the 2 year warranty I received would cover. Going back to when I first purchased the vehicle less than a year ago, after less than a week of owning the car I brought it to my mechanic for a once over. Right away he said the brakes are no good. Immediately I made an appointment to bring the car back to the dealership. I was assured by the service department that they were fine. So after being told I needed new brakes I brought up this fact and was told that at the time of purchase the vehicle's brakes were considered "safe" to sell? I was just in awe. One of the service managers said I will look for any documentation on this and see if there is anything that he could do. I was gracious that I might actually get some help with this situation. Nope instead he said he would call me back after Memorial day weekend. I was ok with that because it was a long weekend. Well a week later and no call from him. I decide after a week I would call the service manager myself, maybe he forgot. He said he was just getting into work and would need to call me back in a little while. Here it is over a week later and no call. Obviously they don't want to help. They made their sale and are done with me. This all my seem not very aggravating or worth a post on here, however the used vehicle I purchased was worth over $20K. A big purchase like this only to have to later come up with another $1500 because I was told the car was "safe" is absolutely absurd. 200 miles from home check engine light comes on because of a recall problem that was not corrected at my home town service department........ Herb Chambers service department saved our butts! The service manager Ryan had the pieces we needed to have replaced overnighted and had us back on the road within two hours of bringing in the car. . I had a notice from OnStar about what was said to be a "recall" and made an appointment with Herb Chambers in Peabody which is my local dealer. They couldn't tell me how long the service would be but when I dropped it off the service tech said 45 mins to an hour. In 1 1/2 hours I returned and they hadn't even gotten to the vehicle yet. So I left expecting I will NEVER RETURN TO HERB CHAMBERS ANYWHERE!!!!So I called Quirk where I purchased the EV to get more information about the recall. BEN in service was GREAT!! He told me it was not a recall but a customer satisfaction issues and he explained the entire issue as well as the fact that it should take 20-30 minutes at a certified dealer. I took my car for a new battery and the service guy did an oil change which I didn't ask him for on top of that he said I need it a 4 wheel alignment, 4 tire balance, air filter and cabin filter. Very conflicted about this dealer. My wife and I have leased two cars on different occasions with Herb Chambers. The first time we leased was outstanding, from our salesman all the way to the person who wrote up the lease agreement. Each time we went back, whether for service or to lease our 2nd vehicles they seemed less interested in dealing straight up. We ended up leasing a 2nd time with some reservations. Our 2nd lease was expiring this past December and we made numerous visits to Herb, and each time we left more aggravated with offers and with the overall experience. This dealership is the reason GM is laying off factory auto workers. The salesmen are an old boy network. Salesman play the old shell game with the managers and leave you sitting for hours while pressuring the customer. Service is Horrendous, I'll give an Example. I dropped my truck off for a front end alignment. I get a number, paperwork and I'm on my way. Eight days later I get a call from the Service Department, " Yea, You need to come in and drive your truck to our other dealership we ain't doing front alignments on no trucks here playa" exact quote. Financing Dept wants to sell you gap insurance, Tire and wheel insurance, Extended Warranty insurance and teflon coating insurance. Went to herb chambers to take a look at a vehicle we saw an add for and to see what they could do. We walked in there asking for a deal or one similar as we knew our credit score wasn't the best but also not bad either. We went in looking for a Chevy Silverado and somehow our sales guy Alex tried to sneakingly manipulate us into "running numbers" when he came back with the price it was mortifying. We let him continue to show his numbers etc and listen to what he had to say, he was requiring a co signer and blah blah due to the car shortage etc. needless to say we laughed in his face when he showed us the bottom of the barrel chevy Trax SUV that was 2 years old and smelled like cigarettes. When I told him the car reaked and I would never buy it because no matter how much cleaning you do tobacco smell never goes away- my current used car proves that well. Alex's response was "you can get a fabreeze clip it works wonders" so he tried to sell my a 2 year old, cigarette smelling car for $425 a month with a cosigner for 72 months. He and the rest of the sales people laughed in my face like he didn't believe me when I told him we paid the same for a 2020 Ram 1500 special edition just last year that sadly got totaled (we decided to wait to buy a new car again which we now regret) with a similar credit score (so similar that pulling it would not have even shown the change) for the same price. We walked out and will not be going back - do not feel like this was a car shortage issue but more of a sleeze ball company. Also sales staff are very sneaky etc. The look on Alex's face when we walked out and told him we would never pay that for that piece of shit.
