This summer my 12 year old Kia with 162,000 miles blew an engine. I bought it used in NH and I still owed $2,000 on it. I'm a single parent with good credit & a 650-Ish score with low income .. After calling half dozen dealerships in Mass & being told by all "no interest In your car & we wouldn't get you approved, good luck". An aquatince refereed me to Herb Chambers Honda Boston dealership. Not only did GM Tom take my dead KIA but he also gave me more money than I owed - and no they didn't play the trick of jacking up the price on what I bought to balance it out - I test drove 3 cars and settled on a 2014 KIA Soul. It came with no used car warranty and I chose not to purchase an extended OR GAP. I took my new/used Soul home. Drove it 3,956 miles in 6 weeks. Blew the engine!! Mass warranty is 1,250 miles. I was nervous calling the dealership back. They sent a tow truck the next morning and called me 2 days later to tell me "Jimmy the engine blew, you're well past your warranty & we are not obligated to do anything, but we WILL pay off your loan, we will not stick you with this car and this problem. You can either walk away or you can come in and we'll sell you another car." I was shocked but pleased I didn't have to deal with the stress of it. I went back and decided to buy a much newer car 2017 Ford Escape Titanium. LOVED IT for the 3 weeks I had it until someone totaled it! Yup-can't make this stuff up. Didn't even make a payment and here I am for the third time this year with No car again! Commerce is now paying the new loan off and they told me "we valise the car $800 more than your loan and your loan also consists of all your fees and reg, and GaP and a 90,000 extended warranty?! Wow you got a good deal on that car you're very lucky the value is above what you owe." So back to HC I go! Lol. I called GM Tom on Friday and told him.. I also showed him a car that HC in Braintree has that I want (same car) he said "I'll have it here Monday I'll see you then." Went back Monday & the car was waiting for me. To make the payment & deal the same they lowered the price $1500.. There is no way on earth I'd ever buy a car at another dealership ever again. These people went out of their way for me THREE times now and they didn't have to. And each time they made it happen within a few hours in one day! And yes each time that place was packed full of people buying cars . They deserve a lot more than 5 stars. And I am NOT an easy customer to please and/or deal with. read more

I felt personally disrespected by the service representative and the service manager and after finally recovering my vehicle I couldn't help being left with the feeling that the vehicle had been sabotaged to delay returning the it. My review about the Service Department, specific for service advisor Mary Horton at Herb Chambers Honda Boston. Mary definitely had very poor customer service skills (empathy, communication, responses, and professionalism) that require for customer service. She is rude and unprofessional behavior to customers. I had an appointment for B1 maintenance service for my 2025 Honda CRV Hybrid on April 10, 2026. I waited three hours for an oil change and tire rotation without receiving any updates from Mary, until I looked out the window and saw my car parked outside, waiting to be picked up. I checked with her to see if the work on my car was finished. Mary claimed falsely that the car had been ready for quite some time and that she had already sent me a text message, but I never received it. After I paid and requested the invoice as well as the multipoint inspection report, she informed me that they do not print hard copies, but would instead send both the invoice and the inspection report to me electronically. She gave no detail about the multipoint inspection or any other aspect of the service. I contacted her multiple times regarding the invoice as well as the multipoint inspection report, but she did not respond. First and foremost I just learned that Robert no longer works in service there. I've been a customer for close to 25 years and this was extremely disappointing to hear. One of the reasons I stayed with the dealership service was because of Robert, Sean and Nelson. My appointment was scheduled for 8:30 for a B127 routine maintenance. When I arrived it sounded like there were either a lot of sick calls or too many scheduled days off for the service team. Lots of unhappy customers in the waiting room. Called them to get a code for my radio because my battery died. I was told that I have to come in with the car and registration to get the code. I arrive at 2:30pm and when I was there they tell me that there's no one available to get me the code because one person doesn't have access and the other person who has access is locked out of the system. So, they tell me that I have to come back next day. I then ask if they want to do my inspection sticker and I was told they can't because the guy who does it already left for the day. This dealership and the people are so incompetent. I'm not sure why a simple inspection and tire change takes 4-6 hours. Our car is always dropped off early in the morning and it takes FOREVER to get it back. They open at 8, we get there at 8 and yet it always takes HOURS. This experience was the last straw. The customer service person Robert told us our car was ready and then ghosted us for close to 2 hours while we waited for them to get us a Lyft back to the dealership. We called and texted him multiple times with no response. We then called the dealership line and the front desk lady who answers general calls does not give af about customer service. We told her we were notified our car was ready and if she could help us and all she said was "Robert would speak to that" i.e. the man that's been ghosting us. We ended up getting our own Lyft and still had to wait upon arriving to get our car. No discount or reimbursement for our Lyft was offered and not even a sorry was said. read more

I made an appointment for my Honda Prologue and brought it to Dorchester last Friday at 10:30 am. I had assumed it would be repaired the same day. (The transmission needs service light had appeared briefly last Wednesday, but not since then.) When I checked in I was told it would be ready Friday or Saturday. That was a surprise. I've never made a service appointment and had to leave the car overnight. I called early Saturday afternoon and learned it wasn't ready but would be by the end of the day. I heard nothing after that. I work weekends and had to borrow a friend's car. Now it's Monday morning. I called around 8:30 am and my service advisor is not working today. I learned that no one else except the service manager can tell me the status, and she is in a training and no one knows when the training is scheduled to end. Like many others, I received their "Moneyopoly" advertisement/lottery scam in the mail. You pull open some tabs (see attachments) to see that you have won $5000. Before you get too excited, you check the fine prints. It states, "No purchase or donation necessary to enter or win...If the symbols revealed match the combination on the board, please proceed to the dealership to compare your confirmation code to the prize board to determine what you have won." At this point, you may get a little excited but the better part of your brain tells you that if it's too good to be true, then it is. Surely enough, a simple Google will tell you that this is a recurring scam that dealerships run. You bring the winning ticket to the dealership, and the codes don't match! You have won nothing. But I'm sure there will be a sales rep ready to show you a new vehicle. Everything could improve... This dealership fits the stereotype of scumbag car salesmen. From the start they were unprofessional, refusing to honor an email for the trade in value of our car that they offered. They also showed sexism offering my wife thousands less for a trade in than when I went in. After negotiating for way longer than we should have, they still didn't honor the amount mentioned in the email and stated "it was sent out accidentally." We test drove a car we ended up purchasing that they apparently aired out before showing us because after all was said and done and we took the car home, it smelled like cigarettes. They did a terrible job detailing it so we brought it back to get rid of the smell and actually clean it and right when we picked it up we found a French fry and onion ring right on the floor so they definitely didn't clean it again. A week later we noticed two big chunks taken out of the rear tire and I found were there when we bought after looking closely at the listing online. We spoke to a mechanic (we are on a road trip with the car) and he said it looks like someone spray painted the damaged areas to conceal it. It never should have passed inspected but Herb Chambers Honda ignored/hid them and passed it anyway. They were aware we got the car because we have a baby and needed the space and still gave us an unsafe car and are now delaying offering any help. I simply asked if they would cover the cost of a tire replacement for the damaged one that shouldn't have passed and they are ignoring us. Be warned that Herb Chambers Honda will trick you into unnecessary and expensive service. I asked for a Honda-recommended 30,000-mile maintenance package, but Shop Manager DJ Jackson did not make it clear that he was also including an additional and unnecessary fuel injection service package along with the standard 30,000-mile package he had described. This service is not manufacturer-recommended and cost me an extra $300. It was extremely dishonest to group this service, commonly considered a "wallet flush," with necessary Honda-suggested maintenance. When I noticed this extra charge and questioned Mr. Jackson about it, he was extremely rude and aggressive. He told me it was my fault for not carefully reading the service order, raised his voice, and even swore at me. After this, I reached out to raise my concerns to the dealership and received a call from Service Director Susan Tarquini. Ms. Tarquini made no effort to apologize for Mr. Jackson's behavior. Instead, she called me inexperienced with dealership service centers and again told me the situation was my fault for not reading carefully. It was one of the most off-putting customer service experiences I have ever had. I still cannot believe that the dealership's stance is that their service advisors can say whatever they want, and it's on you to read the fine print. I asked to speak to the dealership's general manager, and Ms. Tarquini told me he would call me the next day. I never received a call, and the GM did not respond to an email detailing my negative interactions with Mr. Jackson and Ms. Tarquini. I can only assume shady sales tactics like these are common at Herb Chambers and that the dealership is fine with managers swearing and yelling at customers. Horrible Service-They Broke My Car-Beware! Terrible place. They sold me a car with a broken windshield which was not broken when I test-drove it a few weeks before the new wheels were installed there. Now I have a car with only 6000 miles but a broken windshield that has to be replaced by me and all the electronics put into play. They had no interest in making this right as it wasn't my fault that the windshield was damaged while it was on their lot, awaiting work to get it ready to be handed over to me. I paid $600 for a unique new remote starter with a screen as I had in my last Honda; they put in an all-scratched-up USED starter. I paid full price. Who operates a business like this? They were to place an applique on the rear bumper; they gave it to me in a box and said, it just sticks on, do it yourself but charging me for the installation. I hated every minute in that place. It is a BAD place even to go in, never mind buy a car. Avoid at all costs. I will attach photos of the windshield I received at $23,500 for a 2019 Honda Fit EX. That's 3K over list new! STEER CLEAR! This is by far the worst "dealership" I have EVER encountered. I am sure they prefer to cater to one group of people. For starters, I've never been here, but made an appointment online for a minder b service (per my car dash). I am here from another state so called to ensure everything would be covered and honored here prior to me bringing in my vehicle. The dealership advised they would need to reach out to the dealership where I purchased the car but it wouldn't be an issue. Fast forward to my appointment at 8:30, I get there and no direction or signs as to where to go. So I start to walk inside, and someone yells pull up over there and wait. So I wait for the guy to come to me, for him to tell me to go inside and wait, he then brings a piece of paper to me and I hand it over to Nelson. Clearly Nelson doesn't want to be at work nor help customers. But this is who you have as the face of Honda service. I proceeded to explain I had an appointment in which I was on time for, and the services I needed. He told pointed his finger at a price on the desk. I explained the maintenance plan I'm apart of. He told me "that is them, we are us, it's not the same." I explain I have a maintenance package and he shows me the $159.95 price and tells me there's no plan with my VIN. So I would need to pay. So I ask for a manager and he says she's not there but I see her, and he follows my eyes and then says okay, but he doesn't move. While waiting for him to get the manager, I call the dealership that sold me the car and they provide all of the information to verify my plan. I write it down on the paper they provided me. I ask another gentleman to get me the manager, and he returns with Susan. Now susan susan susan, you are the service director ? You would think one would have empathy or at least pretend to. This was my first service on my car since I purchased it almost 2 years ago. My mom has stage 4 cancer, and the vehicle had been being used more than it had been previously. So I expected her to understand why I was so adamant about not wanting to pay anything extra, especially when I have a maintenance plan to cover it. No, instead you tell me "it's Boston not Georgia and you guys are direct, talk fast and move faster". After I mentioned this is nothing like the dealership in Georgia I purchased the vehicle from. I explained the services were supposed to be covered in full per the dealership and the company in which I have the maintenance plan with. Susan and I begin to go back and forth, because she was very abrasive and like Nelson, acted as if was a bother. Service clearly is just for cars as there's no CUSTOMER service. Long story short. Nelson needs, at the very least, customer service and integrity training. Susan is in over her head which clearly results in being a robot and not acknowledging human emotion and/or human error on their end. If I am quoted that my services are covered, then that is what I am expecting. But I paid to have to my car serviced and I will NEVER return to this horrid location again. Take your money elsewhere. But this has been the single worst experience I have ever had with a company. *DO NOT* go to the Dorchester location on Morrissey Blvd for car service. TL;DR my car was in their shop for over 100 days until I finally had to sell it to them for scrap. They turned an already crappy into an absolute nightmare. Here are the highlights: -My 2008 CR-V was perfectly fine other than the fact that my catalytic converter was stolen. In the end, I sold it to them at only a $250 profit because I had no other choice. -My appraiser with Geico originally did not show up to his appointment. When I asked him about it, he told me "the woman at the front desk was so terrible to me that I couldn't get any information on your vehicle." I experienced similar situations with the office staff, who were extremely rude and had their faces in their phones constantly. -The first agent assigned to my case told me that he would work with my appraiser to find an aftermarket cat converter, but never did so. This first agent ended up getting either fired or "abruptly moved," and I ended up getting passed along and waiting 4 months for a factory part before giving up, since the part was (and still is) on backorder. They knew this from Day 1, and decided to order a factory part instead of an aftermarket one without first consulting me. -The shop never once called me for an update. They would give me dates 3-4 weeks out; I would call them to confirm the week beforehand, and they would tell me "oh, whoops! Your date has been pushed back another month." I ended up having to buy a new vehicle because I had no transportation for 4 months. -When I told them I wanted to give up waiting, my agent Victor told me it would be $170 for the diagnostic. When I got to the shop in person, his supervisor told me that she could charge me $161 a day for a storage fee -- that's $16,500, since my car was in their shop for over 100 days. Not one thing was done to my car during that time. She eventually agreed to "be extremely generous" and release her hostage of my vehicle... for $500. Again, they did not service my car at all, lied to me repeatedly, and still charged me $500. -After paying $500 for my car to sit in their uncovered lot, their sales department ultimately offered me $750 for my 2008 CR-V with 108k miles. Since I paid $500 for storage, that was a $250 total profit for my vehicle. I signed over the title, resigned to the fact that I had been scammed, and *then* they decided to tell me that my check wouldn't be cut for several days because someone who needed to sign it was on vacation. -As the cherry on top, my name was spelled wrong on the check once I finally got it. read more
