Both the owner and the junior guy inspected my car. The junior guy showed me the comps. I asked if could go higher based on the data points. He said it was out of his control and he needed to ask the owner who was helping a couple at the time. The owner (think his name is Charles) proceeded to scream at me that the offer is the offer, essentially a take it or leave it. Very confusing and rude. From the outset, I made it clear to Sean that I had received a compelling offer for my car and would only consider selling to them if they could beat that offer. Sean assured me via email that they could indeed provide a better deal. Regrettably, my experience took a turn for the worse when, after taking a half day off and rearranging my schedule to meet with Sean, he informed me that they couldn't beat the offer. This left me feeling both irritated and inconvenienced, as I had driven 45 minutes to their location, only to be met with disappointment. What struck me most was the inconsistency in Sean's communication. To promise a better offer and then fail to deliver on that promise reflects poorly on the professionalism of Boston Car Buyers. The time and effort I invested in making it to the appointment, combined with the frustration of learning they couldn't fulfill their commitment, have left me with a negative impression of the company. It's disheartening when businesses do not uphold their word, especially when it involves inconveniencing customers who have made an effort to engage with them. I would advise others to approach appointments with caution and perhaps seek alternative options to avoid similar disappointments. In the future, Boston Car Buyers should be more mindful of making promises they cannot keep and ensure better communication to avoid wasting their customers' time. It only took about 6 months of living in Boston to realize that we didn't have much use for our car...or car payments...or parking costs...or car insurance costs...or, well, you get the point! Once we committed to getting rid of our car, I went to autotrader.com, filled out the info and was provided a list of potential buyers. Before I could even explore the list of options, Charlie, from City Motor Group reached out. Within a day we were sitting in their office, handing over our keys, and cashing our check! City Motor Group is an unassuming spot, with their tiny office surrounded by a ton of cars (relative to the lot size, that is) of all makes and models. Charlie was really nice, fair with his offer, and in less than 30 minutes, our car was gone. The entire transaction was very professional, efficient, and thorough, but not without a dose of friendly, casual conversation. The real highlight, though, was post-sale, when our bank claimed to have not received payment after 2 weeks. I reached out and Charlie, who showed sincere frustration with our bank's operations and empathy for us and our fears, quickly found a copy of the payoff (which had happened the next business day after we left their office). Just like that, our bank recognized and fixed their error. The fast, personable service we encountered during our initial sale didn't end that day, and that was nice to see. I got an email from Patrick from City Motor Group, in response of my post. I was a little hesitate when i got the email, but after i checked their yelp review , I decided to drive in to take a look at this place myself. Their location is very easy to find, pretty much across the street of Lechmere subway station and it is very close to CambridgeSide Galleria mall where I shop all the time.. So the location makes me feel comfortable. After I met Patrick, he is very nice , polite and professional, much different from what I have imagined that a car dealer would look like . They took out my car for a test ride , and Charlie did some research on his books and computer, then he made me an offer. I had been trying to sell my car on my own for a while, but too many tire kickers and so much time was wasted. Plus I think Charlie's offer was very reasonable , So I sold my Honda Civic to them on the spot. The whole process took about 15 min till I got a Bank check. Painless and very professional. Absolutely believe the reviews! With my lease ending soon, I started to look into buying my vehicle outright. I checked what the local market (car dealers, mainly) were selling Highlanders that were similarly equipped and good condition. Using very conservative estimates I determined that I had some equity in this vehicle. Not a huge amount, but around $1500, definitely worth my time! After my wife indicated her preference for a new vehicle, I decided to see what local dealers would offer to purchase the vehicle from me. Now that I've sold my car for fair market value (not to these guys) I will post a review on my experience with this dealership. I had a used car I took impeccable care of, had a thick folder of all maintenance receipts for the years I had it, car runs in top condition, no rust, waxed twice a year, etc. I LOVED that car and took care of it like a baby. No kidding. It was however, time to upgrade so I went to City Motor Group because I read all the yelp high star reviews. Pros; not pushy. Cons; I went through the same salesman style; we'll-take-that-unsellable-used-car-off-your-hands-for-1/3-the-value-of-Edmunds/Kelleybluebook/NADA. I got that -But don't worry your lucky to get what we are offering- pitch. Then came the same old dealership 'good cop, bad cop' that so many of us have been through at many a dealership. After giving me an outrageously low first offer from the initial younger salesman, he handed the ball off to the older guy 3 feet behind me (within earshot) at the next desk (manager?, owner?). He went out to my car and looked at it for all of 60-90 seconds and came in with a slightly higher yet still ridiculously low offer. Was I suppose to feel lucky I was getting his offer instead? Being the respectful level headed guy I am I politely declined, thanked them for their time, and said an easygoing friendly farewell and excused myself. Note; I got a significantly higher offer for my car as a **trade-in** at a dealership not far from this place. I ended up selling my car to an individual Cash buyer (not a dealership) at the Edmunds/KelleyBluebook/NADA fair market value elsewhere which was SUBSTANTIALLY higher than what these guys were offering. These guys are not pushy but bottom line is that they are no different than any other dealership trying to get your car for 1/3 the true market value. They just do it in a sanitized way. If you want a fair price for your car this is not the place to go. Needless to say NOT recommended. read more

We asked for a couple of days to think about it as I was out of town and my husband and I wanted to discuss the offer. They said okay and when we called back to move forward they said they wouldn't honor the offer anymore. Complete waste of our time and frankly their offer wasn't great to begin with.
