Herb's Tavern has been around forever and I'm embarrassed to say that it was my first time here ! And I loved it !!! There's a parking lot in the back, which is always helpful. We walked in for brunch on a Sunday morning, and we were able to snag the last seat on the patio. I loved the little shade sails over the patio! It really helped keep things cool. The wait staff seemed a little stressed. But we were waited on by a man and were brought our food by a younger girl. Both were very sweet and pleasant ! I was with three other people and we all loved our food! I'm kind of a French toast snob, and it was incredible ! My husband got a ham & Swiss omelette and loved all the cheese on it. He said it was great. We also both agreed that the hash browns were incredible. A perfect balance of crispy and soft. My only little complaint was that our food all came out at different times, so I was done eating before two of the people in my party even received their food. One of the other servers came over to apologize to us for the scene, which I was confused by. Apparently the next table over were throwing a fit because they couldn't split their checks. I had no idea! So kudos to the staff for handling it discretely. Afterwards though, we DID hear the disgruntled guests honking obnoxiously at the patio and flipping us all the bird. lol what in the world? Hopefully their day got better. Lol read more

Over all the food was good but this is ala carte ala carte. Order a sandwhich and that is what comes on the plate. The plate looked bare. No Chips. No Pickles. The food seems to have gone slightly downhill, still good but not above average anymore- way way way overpriced though. Breakfast for two people was $75 before tip, I think the service was adequate but not warm, I would come back but $75 for breakfast is hard to justify. read more

Husband and I decided to get a late Saturday lunch (1:30 p.m. at a place we always used to go to for burgers). The wagon wheel light fixtures, old dark paneling and seeing it hasn't been remodeled since we were last there in 1996 should have been the first sign. The second sign was the pricing on their menu - we should have gotten up and left - BUT we did not - our bad for sure. Ordered a patty melt, 5 oz cheeseburger, one small fry, ginger ale and a draft beer. MY GOODNESS - the bill was $54.00. Patty melt and burger were not worth $14 each, their small fry ($5.00) was not even enough for one person let alone two to share; $8 for a beer and almost $5 for a ginger ale? Food was ehhh at best - sorry to say - Herb's is one we will never go back to or refer anyone to. read more

A Rocky River classic. Some fun specials and different things on the menu, but the Herb burger will keep you coming back time and time again. A little small on the inside and feels like a time capsule but that just amps up the charm. Make sure to get the onion rings-- some of the best in the area. Went to Herbs last Sunday for brunch and the food was absolutely wonderful! This was the first time I had gone for brunch!! The only negative was that the patio was packed and there was a larger party there I think 5 adults, 3 children. They were super loud and disruptive to what I thought was going to be an enjoyable brunch with my family. The adults at the table were upset because despite there being signs saying "no splitting of checks, for larger parties" they were insistent that the staff bend the rules. The server seemed very calm, but the group was yelling, almost throwing a temper tantrum. I guess they felt entitled to an exception. Then the manager asked them to leave, which they didn't - so he asked them a little more forcefully. Also one of the cars from the group drove by, flipping the bird, and yelled something out the window (I'm not sure what they said because they were driving by). The staff seemed to handle them very well except the one server did seem a little shook afterwards. I can't imagine being talked to the way these diners talked to her. After this rowdy and rude group left, the staff apologized to all the other diners and we were able to enjoy our Sunday. read more

Came to Herb's with a big group including a 4 year old and a toddler. We sat down and they handed up crayons and blocks and immediately won me over. It has old school cozy bar vibes with good food and beer. The servers were quick, attentive and super friendly, especially to the kiddos. Will definitely be a neighborhood spot for us! read more

This used to be an amazing place. USED TO BE. Owner is a crazy person. Today we went for our annual birthday breakfast for my mom. We were a party of 8 and sat on the patio. Our server put tables together for us. Food was great, our server was great. The problem came when it was time to pay. We were unaware that checks could not be split. It was a hassle but we figured it out. I went inside to take my kids to the bathroom and the owner was very loudly complaining about our party stating we pushed the tables together and we don't split checks and just being nasty. I went back to the table and told the rest of the party that they were complaining about us. The gentleman who said he was the de-facto manager came out after our server let him know Id overhead the owner talking about us. I told him that it was unacceptable. He asked how they could earn our business back. I said as long as she was there, you couldn't. I told him our server was great but the cranky old lady ruined the experience. She came out and started screaming at us to leave (which we were since we'd already paid the check) and said they didn't need to be treated badly. We didn't yell at our server, we didn't yell at the manager. I just told them we'd never be back. I did mention maybe she needed a nap. Next thing I know she's screaming at us in front of my children to get the fuck off her property and she was calling the police. For what? Respectfully complaining that you shouldn't talk about customers? This place was great when Herb was there but she is an awful person and we will NEVER be back. Owner dropping the f bomb, screaming- completely unhinged. Take customer feedback politely, learn how you can improve, and move on. Her reaction was insane. We tipped our server well. She was wonderful. The manager was great. The owner needs a nap. Or a new job. She's awful. Did it eventually get heated on both sides? It did. My twins with a developmental disability were trying to get up and move as quickly as possible while she continued to scream at us to get off her property. Ma'am, we're trying. Quit spit yelling. Our $200+ check was paid, our server tipped and complimented. And we left. Owner continued to scream at us while we were walking to our cars. Perhaps she shouldn't deal with customers. read more

Apparently the go to local tavern in Rocky River...and it should be the go-to. Fabulous old school ambience, old school service, and old school food with a nice selection of beers. Specials written on the chalkboard on the way in and on the wall each day. Old school. Our party of three had a burger (delicious), onion rings (delicious), a salmon Caesar salad (delicious), the fish and chips (delicious, if a little heavily battered), and fries. Probably wouldn't order the fish and chips again as a result, but confident that the rest of the menu probably delivers as a good bar/tavern menu should. Three stars not a ding at all. It would be a solid 4+ in the tavern category -- just up against fine dining for stars four and five. It's nothing super special. Most selections are what we'd term as hardy, fairly traditional bar food. And nice, friendly, personalized service and attention by servers/owners. Things can be a bit on the high side cost wise - but satisfying, tasty, and very good quality - and not really surprising when compared to eating out nearly anywhere these days. read more

What an awful experience at Herbs today. Our servers were excellent but when it came time to pay our check we were informed we could not do separate checks for parties over 6 . Who carries cash to pay someone who is paying the whole check to reimburse them I come with my debit card to pay my own check. We had a party of 8 with 3 children . One of our people overheard the owner complaining about us for putting tables together and other things . She was coming out of the bathroom when she overheard this. Then the owner came to our table saying she didn't deserve to be treated like this and told us to get off her property ! She didn't deserve this treatment ? Sticking up for an an amazing mother and human. This was her recent experience--one that is so unacceptable. Well, I had a new 1st in my life! I got thrown out of a restaurant with my mom, my niece, my kids and Barbie! Why? We didn't know checks couldn't be separated and I complained to the manager that I overheard the owner badmouthing us for having a group of 8 and wanting to split the checks while I was waiting by the bathroom for Casey and Connor. We made it work. We paid our check, tipped our server. I just told the manager it was unacceptable that the owner was loudly badmouthing us and we wouldn't ever be back. She came out dropping the F Bomb, said "Get the F off my property! I'm calling the cops. We don't deserve to be treated this way." Called us bitches. MY MOM! She said that to MY MOM. She's lucky she's still breathing. You guys know me. I can't be rude. It's not a thing I do. So yeah, the owner of Herbs Tavern in Rocky River is UNHINGED. The price for product was poor at best, the burgers/everything is à la carte, $13 a burger (weak toppings for additional cost) (hey management, spend the .50 cents to add fries to the plate). The wedge salad was mediocre, , hope management figures out how to turn this around or else I envision this RR staple closing. Service was good! Ohh and no straws not even paper. read more

Awful experience today. Was sat very quickly, no wait. Had a party of 8 for a birthday. The waitress pushed 2 tables together to accommodate us on the patio. We said we would have 3 checks between us, 3 of which were children. No issue with that as we ordered. Out of an item on the menu so they replaced it with something else and apologized. When the checks came, we were told we could not split the check. We were upset, but said we can put it together and figure it out amongst ourselves. The waitress said she would talk to the owner and try again. At this time one of our party took the kids to the restroom and when leaving heard the owner and staff complaining about how terrible our table and group have been. Loudly and in earshot of many inside the restaurant. When returning to the table we asked to speak to her, they sent another gentleman who also couldn't help with the check issue. After payinf the check the owner came our furious and started cursing at the table. Telling us to get the "F" off her property or she would call the police. She screamed at us and the children at the table for no reason as we were already leaving. Extremely rude to talk to customers and her own staff like that. We have been going for years and will never return. I can not believe the service here from the owner. The waitress we had was not an issue. Out to dinner with friends who raved about the burgers. We started with three appetizers. Poutine Fries(awesome) cauliflower bites( great) Zuchini sticks (great) On to the burgers. The menu says all are cooked to Medium Rare. Sold! I did a build your own and built a Big Mac. Food came quick Unfortunately the burger came well done. Could have been an off day. What a weird dinner experience. We recently moved to Rocky River and have been told Herb's is a staple of the community but has gone downhill since a recent change in ownership. I have tried going 3 times and each time they have been closed during normal business hours. We went for an early dinner on Saturday and were told they would be closing at 6:30. Starting with the good - the server was very friendly. Kids' meals come on plates separating food making it easy for them to eat. The bad - we started with tater tots which arrived frozen in the middle. They forgot to enter one of our entrees. After they made it, they threw it away because of the bread and made it again. They were out of french fries. They were out of burgers. We were told to conserve napkins as they were nearly out of those. This feels like a poorly run establishment. Outrageously priced for the options, quality and portion size. Much better options in the area. Unfortunately, this is a one-and-done for us. read more

I get the herb burg. The big one is the super burger as I recall. Cooked Medium. They're just perfect burgers. The best. It's a cool bar area too. So the story is this place was a funeral parlor. It does have crosses on the windows in the back. Front bar room does look like a gathering area for the bereaved. I'm gonna snap some pics. There is a door heading to the cellar oh lord what went on down there ha. Enough. The funeral parlor myth has been disavowed by the staff but what fun is that. They say it was just herbs house! The crab bisque was great. Very hot nice tomato base. Underrated. Cute waitresses traipsing about. Is that a word? Grilled hot dog was perfect, good bun Stadium mustard. Used to be a good place to eat. Now, the prices are way out of line with the quality of the food. My Diet Coke was flat, my friend's bourbon and coke didn't really have any bourbon in it. Won't be coming back here. I just couldn't believe how expensive it is now. No value. When we got our food it was not good. The onions and mushrooms on my burger were cold. The burger tepid. Voted best breakfast in Northeast Ohio, we had to check it out! We got a couple seats at the bar and immediately noticed the amount of regulars here which shows it must be a good place. With an old tavern feel this place has a warm welcome and a coziness of a small space. I wouldn't have pinned this as a breakfast spot, but alas it's become one, and a pretty good One at that. We both ordered omelettes and I had to try the sourdough toast with mine. Was a huge portion and cooked superbly. I was very happy to see real milk available for the coffee! An unexpected yet enjoyable breakfast had here. Would definitely add this to the list of breakfast places to return to in the future. read more

We were so pleased! It looks very unassuming from Detroit Road, but it was great. They seated us immediately and took our orders as soon as we were ready. The waiting staff was very friendly, and attentive. We had a phenomenal set of appetizers - The stuffed tater tots and the gazpacho were both sublime. Without missing a beat, our dinner was served as soon as we were finished with our appetizers. My partner had a turkey Reuben, and I had fish and chips. Both were very good. During our meal, the manager stopped by to check in on us, and she was very keen on ensuring we had a good experience.
