On installation day one of the pre-fabbed pieces wasn't right, so they took it back to the shop, and came out to re-install the next day. When I got a chance to really look at the piece, I wasn't thrilled. I waited a couple days to make sure about whether I wanted to pursue asking them to fix it. I called about 5 days later, and they responded immediately; validating my opinion that this one little corner wasn't great, and offering to fix it straight away. They were out the next day, pulled the counter top, took it to the shop, and reinstalled a couple hours later. And I'm thrilled.

They did a stellar job and the floors are super clean. Communication was great and everything went well. The insurance company paid for the job, so I'm not certain what the costs were. After nothing for 30 minutes past the time, I call and they said they would be there in 20 minutes. Shows up one hour past the scheduled time...it happens, I understand, but maybe you should at least apologize and give me a heads up? Apologizing after I call you out is not comforting. Very nice in person, Takes measurements and discusses. This was a Friday, so I understand we might not get the estimate soon. I'm told, if not this weekend, I'll get it to you by Monday eod. No worries, that's reasonable. Heck, it can be any day, just do what you promise. Monday nothing. Tuesday nothing. Call Wednesday. Says I'm really busy, No apology until I call them out on what they promised. I didn't set the expectation, they did. I tell them, if we don't even have a contract and you're being like this, what am I to expect? Next day, I get a text about the room to be done, is it upstairs or downstairs, and the bathroom, is it being done? I'm totally confused, we never spoke about a bathroom and the room is upstairs. I get the quote finally. It's ~$30k more than another quote I got from a 5 star Yelp business. WTH. Looking deeper into the quote, it's talking about terracota tile and grout...we never spoke about that, we spoke what I already have downstairs, which is laminate. They even stated, that's a manufactured piece we can't get anymore but we can get something close to match. Don't always believe Yelp reviews, but I'd believe this one.

We selected California Kitchen Creations, they were within 5k of other bids, we selected them over others for a few reasons. 1. Our first encounter with Emily was wonderful. She eased our nerves and she knew exactly what I was looking for, rustic minimalist with a Mediterranean touch. She walked us through the process, how they work and we put a tiny fee, which gets credited to project amount, for a quote and mock up of our design. 2. The quote was very specific and laid out costs for everything and had no hidden charges. There was a definite timeline. This made us relaxed in knowing so we could plan ahead. We also liked the pay as you go process. 3. The design was beautiful and Emily met me at the tile store and was always available for our questions. We rented a pod, which I suggest because the team was able to store their equipment at the end of the work day. Each day they came at the scheduled time and worked until 4:30 pm. No erratic hours. The team cleaned up and put what they could away each day. They were polite to us and my doggies, even though they barked at them. We had a total gutted kitchen so of course there is noise and dust. And there was a plumbing surprise, which really was not a surprise. The supervisors were always one phone call away for issues or answers. I can't say enough. They created a beautiful kitchen for us that we could never imagined. The square footage of our kitchen has not changed, but it feels and looks so much larger now. Our house is so beautiful now. It was a bit overwhelming when we first entered the showroom, but we received orientation as to the options and where to find each. Though we originally went in thinking of engineered hardwood, like we have upstairs, with the water considerations, especially in the kitchen, we are thinking of new generation laminate. It's easy to install, and has great waterproof functionality. It has texture and varied pattern, too. We're just about ready to finalize our measurements and place the order. Their prices are extremely competitive and many styles are in stock for immediate availability. Tony has been very helpful getting us up to speed on this big purchase.
