I'm an experienced first responder with many tac trainings under my belt, and this was one of the worst courses I've ever attended. The course was exactly as described on his web site. There was no bs, no fluff, you hit the ground running, literally. Even though I had some experience with shooting, I still learned a lot. The course was realistic in teaching you skills so you are prepared under stress / under attack, in various situations such as a moving vehicle, and defending yourself against various weapons, just to name a few. I found this archery area while trying to find fun activities to do in the DMV area since I love trying new things. I have done archery in the past in my youth, but it has been awhile since I've held a bow and arrow. The DC Archery Club, which meets here, practices on Saturdays. They have a free 1-2 hour lesson taught by a volunteer who has been part of this club for numerous years. She actually helped setup the electronic aspects for the club to make sure it has more of an online presence in this world. It's optional to donate to them, but they also note that you could donate $10-20 for those who could afford it to help keep the club alive/offering free lessons. I went at 1:45 pm for the 2:00 pm start time, and I had brought a friend with me. They have parking available (regular parking, not parallel), and it's free! When I arrived, they had greeted me with a bright smile, and Gorge, an older gentleman, also joked with me, making me feel like I'm already part of the family. I was tested for eye dominance, given gear quickly, and we were then taken to the lesson range. There were about 7 people taking the lesson for the day with two instructors. I love that the instructors took the process step by step and provided us tips as well. They did not overwhelm us with all of the information at first but instead focused on our form and then added more information as we got better at aiming at the target. At the end, balloons were setup for us to aim at. If we hit the balloon, we were also given one golden coin, which I loved the gamification aspect of things. It made things even more fun! At the very end, I even tried splitting an arrow (which I failed to do), but it was a fun experience. I'd say definitely give this a go! It's a really fun and welcoming experience. In addition, bring your own water! They have some bottled water, but if you're just visiting or trying it out, I'd say be kind and bring your own (be prepared). :) My advice: bring a hat, sunscreen/sunglasses, and bug spray. We're on the grass for all of it in direct sunlight, but there are some shady spot to rest. I've gotten quite a lot of bug bites from this experience!

While the drive is actually quite easy compared to Adelphi from where I live, and the area much nicer, I have to say that the range itself is not. Major problem is the layout. It's excruciatingly ill thought out. I have never seen such a poorly laid out archery range in all my life and I am no stranger to archery ranges mind you. I know space is a premium in the DMV area but to design a range so small, with targets facing multiple directions and one nearly aligned right behind another is just insane and easily jeopardizes the safety of all on the range. The layout also has a real cramping effect on the range. This is exacerbated by the fact that the range is rather popular and has many meetup style clubs that conglomerate upon it during the weekend. Don't get me wrong, I think its great people do things like that but given the circumstance, this is just not the range for this type of thing. Things get even further complicated by the many different styles being practiced on this range in which some people need a particular target to use and then things become territorial. Some clubs (not all though) have a tendency to try and throw their weight around on the range creating problems. This can potentially happen at Adelphi too (archery 'coaching' and clubs is quite a DMV thing apparently), but given how well thought out the layout of the range is there, its less likely to occur. Needwood really looks like a mess actually at times. I think a redesign would benefit the range greatly. I now appreciate Adelphi even more despite how hard it is for me to get to it and regardless of how unappealing the area is.

As a budding gun enthusiast and someone who's new to shooting (2 years in), I've been looking for places to get target practice in and to improve my skills. XCAL is the nicest gun range I've ever been to! The facility is only a couple years old, so everything is still shiny and new. I arrived here on a Tuesday late afternoon around 4ish and there was already a line. Seems like a popular place, so get here early if you want to avoid lines! While I was waiting, I checked out their retail area. The counter staff was very knowledgeable about all the guns I asked about and had helpful suggestions on other options that they though I would like. When my lane was ready, they called my name on the intercom. The staff who helped check me in was also super friendly and asked me how my day was. I told her it was my birthday! She threw in a free target with balloons on it! I asked to rent a PCC and full automatic glock with a couple boxes of ammo. They said the glock rental was on the house for my birthday! Sweet! Normally full automatic glock rentals are about $85. I ended up paying for the PCC rental, a couple boxes of ammo, plus eye and ear protection (about $109 in total. this included ear/eye protection for my wife who joined me in the range). The full automatic glock was incredibly fun to shoot! I felt like I was in a John Wick movie! I highly recommend trying it out. The range staff took all the helpful safety precautions on site, including for this particular gun. A range safety officer was required to be next to me to use the full auto, and loaded the magazine for me. For the PCC, I was able to load it myself. Best range experience I've ever had! The facilities were state of the art and all the staff were so helpful.

We have been going here for a few weeks now and having a wonderful experience! We tried so many…read moreother swim schools over the years, including GoldFish, but Safesplash is the first location where my daughter has felt comfortable. The pool size is smaller, as are the class sizes and this helps with comfort level. The staff are exceptional, and the trainers are attentive to each child, though I do wish they would communicate updates to the parents more frequently. As for the location itself, it is very clean and well kept. The waiting area has lots of toys, tables, activity items for kids while they wait for class to start. There are benches for parents to sit and observe the class sessions. The locker room is large, spacious, and again well kept and clean. There are plenty of showers. I do wish they had one more bathing suite dryer though. If you are the parent of a young child in the Montgomery Village area I highly recommended Safesplash. There are a few areas that need improvement, some of which I listed (more bathing suite dryers, more communication post class with instructors), but I am happy to give this business five stars!

IWLA is a great place for outdoor activities. You have to be a member or a guest of a member, but I have totally gotten my money's worth out of the membership. Here at the Loudoun Chapter, they have a rifle and pistol range, a skeet range, a static archery range, a dynamic archery range, and a stocked lake for fishing. All the ranges are outdoor ranges. The Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month from 1 to 4 p.m. is excellent. Dan Davis is a great teacher. They rotate topics - archery, rifle, pistol, and shotgun. They provide all the firearms, the ammunition, the clays (for the shotgun class), and instruct the kids on safety and range rules and walk them through a course of fire on the range. Kids that shoot well enough can earn an NRA Marksmanship award. NRA certified classes cost less if you are an IWLA member.

Actually, just having looked back at pictures, it is very CASTLE - esk. It's practically a large castle. So, you get into the center and it's more like a large gym space though. The ceiling is very high which is nice- makes the room very airy. I was here for the Maryland Ensemble Theater's Retro Prom. They decorated the place nicely. And the venue seems like it could easily fit 500 people reception style. There is a lack of parking, but the large expansive room makes up for it. If memory serves me right, there were basketball hoops attached to the ceiling. It is very much like a gym feel. There are fields around the building. A great large event venue in a town where not many at all exist.

I don't get why anyone would complain about this recreation center. The staff have all been very…read morepleasant every time I go and it is a great resource to have in the community. It's alway clean and in very good condition. All the equipment is in good working condition and shows very little wear and tear. The only exception is one of the the pool tables has torn felt and is expensive to fix. The tables are good quality but smaller than regulation tables and meant for beginners. A serious pool player wouldn't use these tables anyway. It was obviously very inexperienced players damaged the felt and I've never seen skilled player use them. Their gym is as good as any you would pay a monthly fee and the centers fee is a fraction of the cost with much more to offer. The center is a great resource for the elderly of varying degrees of mobility with their many different activities. There are table tennis players in the 80's that would smoke most players 50 years younger.
