I'm very surprised by the negative reviews relating to the customer service at this store, because my experience remains, to this day, one of the best experiences I've ever had. I love fashion. Do I have an extravagant fashionista budget? Nope. But that doesn't mean I can't look and aspire, and frankly, if I have to thumb through the ads for all of the fashion houses while I look through my Vogue and Elle, I feel like I have every right to go into the stores and browse. Now, Hermès is intimidating...let's face it, they sell $100,000 handbags, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. So, dressed in the traveling wear of jeans and a t-shirt, I summoned my courage and ventured in to look at the pretty, pretty scarves and leather goods, prepared to be met with disdainful looks and rolling eyes. What I found instead were sales people who were more than happy to tell me all about every detail of their products. They pulled scarf after scarf out for me, showed me bags, talked about fine craftsmanship and even sent me on my way with a shopping bag and this season's catalog. I felt like I won the customer service lottery. And when the day comes that I have the resources to purchase a lovely Hermès scarf, you can be assured that I will purchase it from this location. Why four stars? Security was a little enthusiastic with the hovering upstairs. Other than that, everything about the store was fantastic. Based on my personal experience with this store, I cannot recommend it. I purchased a scarf ring through the Hermes.com website. It was not a purchase that worked for me. I tried to have it returned it to the store. The management was disparaging and unkind. Apparently online purchases can only be returned to the store for credit. It does not say this anywhere on the Hermes.com website. I would avoid this store in the future unless you like spending a lot of money to be treated very poorly. read more

Are you all hiring reps that have 0 customer service experience? Where's the managers do they walk around and listen to the way customers are being treated? Let me start off that the reason I gave Hermes three stars instead of four or five was the prices (a little excessively high when you could go to Bottega Veneta and get fantastic leather goods for a third of the price) and the service, which feels at times snotty and oppressive and at times great and attentive: a little too varying and not consistent enough for a historically quality product. One definite plus is that, recently, I needed to get a refill for my agenda and had my car downtown for class in the loop; I didn't want to re-park my car on or near Oak Street for just an agenda. So I called them up and paid for it over the phone and asked them to run it to me, as I would pull up in front of the store. Although they didn't come to my car, I was ale to run into the store and grab it, as they had it sitting on the counter all ready to go. That was 3/4 of great service. Another thing is, if they don't have an item in store but able to get it in from another store, you have to pay for the item and the shipping to the store to get it in. That is an absolute crock for such a storied retailer. Hell, Brooks Brother won't make you pay for the good or the shipping to have something transfered in (I'd know: I used to work there). I'm a customer at the Beverly Hills store and was in Chicago so I decided to visit. Glad I did. Certainly like other reviews, the store is not as impressive as the west coast sites. But it is a nice store nonetheless. I was immediately approached and was very happy with the service. Your salesperson stays with you and ensures all your shopping needs are met. Other clerks are respectful of the process and are also helpful. It truly was a concierge experience. The other nice thing is that although there is duplication of product from other stores, I was able to find some nice pieces I did not see at the west coast store. A couple of my shirts needed some alterations and that process was speedy. Check out was a breeze and they ship which saved taxes. Great experience. read more

Contrary to others' experience, I am both young and not an established client, but was enthusiastically and warmly greeted immediately upon entering the store. Average Hermes location! I prefer the ones on the west coast! The people we dealt with here were friendly but they were not as knowledgable as they should of been. I was looking for a clic h in a certain color and hardware. I had saw it online but wanted to see the color in store since stock photos sometimes look slightly different. Anyways, they told me that combination doesn't exist....I had to pull it up on the Hermes site for them to see. They have a wide selection of jewelry! Bracelets galore! It would be great to see more handbags in stock! Especially Birkens!! But they're so highly sought after that this location never have any in store. Until next time.... read more

The best of the best. In my opinion, Hermes proposes one of the last true luxury purveyors of goods in the world. Both leather and silk intended to last a lifetime, and I also think they still have a dedicated in-house "nose" for designing their fragrances. If you wonder where Chicago millionaires probably source their $35 bars of soap, come to Hermes. Every shopping experience concludes with having your purchase lovingly and carefully wrapped in a custom orange box. And the signature orange shopping bag? Made in Italy, it says on the bottom! Check every other "high end" shopping bag - even if the paper is custom embossed and it still has the soft fiber handles, I've never seen another luxury shopping bag from Italy, at least from Chicago. And I've always been impressed when nearly every time I drive by this Hermes store, there is a FedEx truck delivering or taking packages, accompanied by a genuine armed security guard. Those are some serious packages. read more

Terrible customer service. Husband and I went in, no one greeted us or acknowledged our presence downstairs (except the guard at the door). Went upstairs , two male sales rep were there without customers but again no greeting or anything. Asked for the price on a tie, was replied by curtly saying it was "$200 like all the other ones". Wanted to try on belts and asked for help but the same sales rep responded by saying someone will help you. Why couldn't you or the other sales rep help us?? 20 min later still no help. Went to the shoe section, female sales rep was helping someone, but she saw me trying on shoes and could've easily said hello I'll be with you shortly but again nothing. Horrible service, snooty workers that really need to get off their high horse. Hope they all get replaced by courteous, humble sales reps asap. The service we get at Van Cleef, Cartier and Chanel is exemplary. Hermes needs to step it up read more

Awful. Always. I keep trying to say they are having a bad day. But after 15 or so attempts, I can say I have never felt comfortable, appreciated or attended to in nearly 4 years. This is coming from a client who has spent $250,000+ maybe more at hermes in the last 10 years at various locations. Someone needs to fly in to fire this management team and start over. Housing the most gorgeous scarves in the world! If you're looking for a special treat for yourself (either a ladies scarf or a men's tie is reasonable in comparison to those wildly pricey Birkin bags), No need to resort to their online store where the beauty of their fabric is hard to see on a computer screen. Hermes on Oak is the place to go. The staff is beyond helpful and they take away any intimidation of this place being snobby (which it's not) and just make you feel special, especially when you're there with the desire to possibly buy something. I could stay there all day long, looking at the beautiful silk in vibrant colors and a special story attached to most of the patterned scarves. I received the absolutely gorgeous Tyger Tyger scarf as a gift and after experiencing my awe of wonder, couldn't resist shopping for a Birthday gift there for my hubby. It's definitely a special treat kind of venue, but one that I won't easily or soon forget!! read more

I'm currently here & he didn't introduce himself. I finally asked him his name, Peter, who's supposedly "helping" me. I'm sorry I only came in for a few items & not a $10,000 bag. What an a-hole. It doesn't matter what you're wearing when you walk in either. As I saw an older man wearing flip flops, gross. People have raved about him, Peter, but he didn't leave me a card, nothing. I planned on coming back for a few scarves for my mom but eh, I'll order online. I dropped $3,000 today, the least he could've done was shown me other items. He has no idea if I'd be a repeat customer, but not with him. The majority of the sales associates are men & they're snotty. Please, you sell high end bags & silk scarves, not a cure for cancer. And don't get me started on the snob that walked in with her mom. No one cares that you've had plenty of relationships with other sales associates across the country and that you have to start all over again. Life is so hard for you honey! read more

Hermes is one of my favorite fashion houses. Everything is of top quality... but comes with a hefty price tag. I recently started my Hermes scarf collection. Love the classic orange and brown, but love the ribbed scarves even better. I want one in every color! Clothes are a little more "mature" for my taste, but definitely pieces I'd sport in about 20 years. Surprisingly, the people who work here are very nice! One sales lady spent a lot of time helping me pick out a tie recently. We had to order it from another store as they were out of stock. For men, I love their ties. So classic and beautiful. The L'Orange (misspelled) colonge is one of my favorites as well. Love Hermes leather accessories - belts, agenda books, enamel bracelets, etc. The Chicago store is not as large as the NYC and Boston stores, but is still a treat to visit. I never post a review on the first visit, as maybe you just had a bad taste in your mouth. But, now, after my second time, I feel the need to share my experience with other people. I went in last month with intentions of buying a belt. I walked in, and the only one to greet me was the security guard. After wondering aimlessly trying to find the belts for 10 minutes, I finally went to get someone, as I had enough of all these sales associates walking by without offering me any assistance (I'm 24, if that tells you anything about their habit to judge). I admit I could have handled this in a better manner, but I said that no one was helping me and I feel like it is because the sales workers think im not going to buy anything. The guy apologized, blah blah, blah. I ended up buying the belt because it is a beautiful belt. But I went back today to return it, as I thought maybe I made the wrong decision purchasing it. I went in and the worker did not even LOOK ME IN THE EYE ONCE explaining to me that they only do store credit and he cannot return the belt for me. He could not even be more personable to explain this to me, as he was doing this while talking to another employee while I needed his attention for one minute. These workers are definitely the ones who judge you when you come in based on whether they think you'll buy or not. Save your time and go to Chanel or Louis. read more

Look, this place is like porn for the fashionista. What's not to get off on here? I mean seriously, everything from riding saddles to luxurious leather bags to immaculately delicate scarves and fancy wrist cuffs--well, you get my whole fixation. I got a Mother's day present here last Friday. The people probably were more snooty than they should be but I am just assuming that it's part of the charm. Based on my experience in a few other mich ave stores I planned on just being ignored if I didn't look like I could drop $5k. I really wish I could give this store negative stars. I visited the Hermès in Paris and London and had great customer service. I felt welcomed the moment the doorman opened the door. I was immediately greeted and asked if I needed assistance by multiple sales people. My visit to the Chicago store was the complete opposite. Very disappointing because I live in Chicago, and I am embarrassed that there is such store employing pompous sales people! I came in to the store and it took the security guard a few seconds to decide if he should greet me. I made eye contact with him until he decided to say hello under his breath. No other sales person said anything to me on the first floor. I asked someone where I can exchange my belt, and was sent upstairs. Upstairs, there were two men sitting both looking at their phones. Let me spare you all the details because the whole time I was there they all made me feel like I wasn't worth their time. I asked for 2 different sizes of the belt (not at the same time), and the person assisting me basically said he wasn't going to get another size. So, I wondered around for 1 minute and disappeared from their sight for a second, and I overheard the person that was helping me said to his co-worker "it's nothing, just a small return". Seriously? These people are all sales people working for Hermès, they act as if they own the company. They get to wear a piece of Hermès as requirement for the job. Hermès needs to replace all these ignorant employees, train new sales people that know how to be one. Treat all customers walking in the same, no matter how customers look like, how one is dressed, etc. This particular store made me not want to ever shop at Hermès. The treatment I received was disgusting and unacceptable. The sales people here including the female manager are an embarrassment to the customer service industry. You all need to look at the mirror, you just work there, none of you own the company. Stop judging who walks in to the store and treat everyone with respect. Honestly, this place is oppressive and a terrible experience. I know, I know, they're making millions and millions of dollars in profit each year, but couldn't the staff be a little nicer and less stultifying? I went to purchase a gift for a friend today and it was so unpleasant I feel bad even now 7 hours after the sale. I should have just walked out and purchased nothing. The salesman kept putting away the pocket square I was interested in, actually putting everything away. And the negativity in the store was just so high: another salesman stopped someone from taking a photo in the store with the worst condescension, only equalled by my salesman's unpleasant cash-wrap experience. Oh. My. I love this store. Is it expensive. Yes. VERY. But you know what? You get what you pay for. I have mostly ventured into small accessory purchases in the store, but I did order a handbag several years ago. Love their hand-painted enamel bangles, and the watches are also a very nice quality (and I actually find them reasonable in comparison to some other high-quality watchmakers ). Their leather goods are the highest quality, entirely created by hand and by artisans who spend their entire careers working exclusively for Hermes. It is one of the few luxury labels that has maintained its meticulous standards of quality over the years, and especially in the last 10 years as the luxury market has exploded. My handbag has held up very well for as much as I get to carry it. (I have a toddler now, and for me, toddlers and Birkins do not mix...) I have sent it to have it "conditioned", and it came back looking virtually new. Any scratches or dings I had managed to get into the leather (and there were a few...) were gone. I personally have never been treated poorly by any of the sales staff in the store. There is a certain aloofness that they cultivate, but I think that is part of the experience overall. I always ask (and wait) for Mauricio when I stop in, and perhaps that is why I have not experienced what some of the other reviewers have discussed. Wish I could stop in more, but even though I'm getting what I pay for, I have to plan to spend my pennies. Have yet to be disappointed by a purchase or an experience in the store. read more

This Chicago location is pretty much the same you can expect at any Hermes, the culture of the company is aloof, salespeople are helpful if they already know you, so when we shop we make sure to ask for our salesperson. Well, they are at the mercy of Paris...but I have had a little leather agenda waiting for service for over 8 months-for a little metal ring holder doodad that I should have made with an old wire hanger before sending it out there. On November 3, 2019 I wore a backpack and a sneaker going in this Hermes store and was treated like a homeless. I had a magazine got from next door and needed to set my backpack down on a table or a chair. Indeed they have no place for you to do all these things. I saw a chair lying in a dark place so I set my backpack down there was a staff named Andrew rushed coming next to me shifting me away and put a sign on the chair without saying anything nor any greeting or saying a hello. I took my glasses out and look down carefully what he put and the piece of paper states that that chair is not allowed to sit. But at least he didn't need to treat a customer that way. First time I visited Chicago and the first store I went in in Chicago and was pissed off by this kind of untrained and uneducated staff was indeed a very disappointing experience. I told this guy that I have traveled around the world at least one hundred countries and visited at least 50 Hermes Stores around the world and this time visiting Chicago I left all my Hermes handbags, Hermes scarves, Hermes clothings, and Hermes Accessories at home as I was told by many people that Chicago is a very dangerous city and had to avoid bringing expensive designer belongings with you. And indeed after two weeks' visit in Chicago I figure out it is really true. I felt I was kicked out of this Hermes store by this guy because I did not dress very well. If I could give no stars I would. I'm disgusted with the whole experience buying from this store. First of all, when you are in the store or even call, the customer service is terrible and rude. But most importantly, I purchased a belt for my mom from Hermès.com and then did an exchange in the store. My mom took the belt into an Hermès store in San Diego for a broken part of the belt and after taking it in, "fixing it" and giving it back to her-she was told the belt was FAKE. She was demanded to sign an affidavit that it was not a real Hermès belt. She would not sign it. She called me to get all the original paper trail which I did get through the customer service number online. They were able to give me my original invoice, reference number, etc. So, the belt has only been handled by Hermès stores and to where they send their product out for repair. If this belt is indeed "fake", who switched out the real parts? They've helped in NO way figuring out the issue. Don't they have record of dates that someone came in, who helped them, who handled it when it was sent out for repair, etc? There's no way of seeing where something changed? This is SO absurd, wrong and unhelpful. Both stores, Chicago and San Diego are not able to give any answers or offer any help sorting through the issue. I don't know if they bank on people never noticing if a part is switched out or if they don't value their customers money and business but either way it's wrong. I would never buy anything from them again and I would highly recommend that you don't either. If you're buying a lavish purchase for someone, I'd stick to other luxury brands that handle your purchases with much more care. read more

I have to write this review. I worked over the phone with Greg/Craig and placed an order ($1600.00)for my wife. Yesterday we went in to pickup the items and while we were waiting she decided on a handbag ($9200) and perfume. He made us wait (yes, he knew it was me) and continued to chat with two men who purchased nothing and continued to ignore us when he was finished. We left without any of the items. Clearly $10 or $11,000.00 is not a large purchase for them and we have done business with this brand and others in New York and else where and have never experienced this level of disrespect and ignorance. This is a store of wants and not needs but it's clear they don't understand that. I waited a day before posting under the foolhardy assumption I would get a call and apology. This was not to be. This store is located in a beautiful area of Chicago IL. Because of all that this city, state and country suffered the past year I truly commend the Directing Manager and staff for an exceptional job well done in maintaining to the quality in store and experience that we expect from the iconic Hermes brand. I can't image the difficulty in managing a store to this caliber but it has been done here and that's why I'm writing this review. I'm impressed with the superior customer service even though travel is extremely difficult for us out of towners. I still feel welcome and I'm catered to all that's on my wish list and every question answered to perfection. I commend this location and the good people here and I hope to visit this location in person some time soon once it's safe to start traveling again. It makes me sad to give such a negative review to a design house that creates such beautiful products, but when your customer service is beyond uppity, I have no choice. My experience with luxury stores, hotels, etc. has always been that the higher-end you go, the more down-to-earth, friendly, and amenable the customer service will be. So, Harry Winston is always super nice while Tiffany's can be a bit rude. Barneys (designer floor) is always fun and friendly, while Barneys Coop tends to look you up and down and sniff. And so on. I think that the sales associates at luxury design houses have figured out that you can't judge a book by its cover, while those at "lesser" companies are still trying to determine the size of my engagement ring so that they can decide whether or not to help me. So, when considering whether to take the plunge on a Birkin or Kelly, I walked into Hermes thinking that I would get the best service ever and that the sales associate would become my new best friend. WRONG. If the sales associate's nose went any higher, he would have been staring at the ceiling the entire transaction. At a certain point, after I asked to try on one of the bags, I could practically hear the inner machinations turning in his head: "Do I let her filthy hands besmirch the leather? Yes? No?" I left with a sour taste in my mouth and certainly no money spent in that store. read more

Never. Going. Back. I love their clothes, particularly their ties, so I decided to stop in their store on a recent Saturday. I walked in and looked around, and within 30 seconds I noticed there was a security person clearly watching me. Not a big deal, though she was so blatantly locked onto me I found it a little odd. I then went upstairs to the second floor, and she was literally 10 feet behind me on the stairs! She was more than halfway up the stairs when I got to the top. The layout of the second floor is strange, and there was nobody up there but the two of us (no employees or customers) - and she made absolutely zero effort to hide the fact that she was watching me and preparing to pounce as soon as I "made my move." I am lucky enough to be able to shop in a lot of high end clothing stores, and this was unlike anything I have ever experienced before. In fact, never once have I had a bad shopping experience on account of anything like this. It's not something I'm sensitive toward or ever typically notice. Hard to accurately describe how bizarre and uncomfortable of an experience this was...but suffice it to say that I'll stick with Barney's. In this day and age, technology makes it possible for stores to secure and safeguard their items without being intrusive and offensive. I was put on a waiting list for an H bracelet I wanted. 5 weeks later, I heard nothing so I called them and the store told me that the sales person who took my information left the company and they no longer have me on the wait list or any of my information. They also dont have the salesperson's list, so they dont know the bracelet that I wanted. I traveled to Chicago to try different sizes of the bracelet, which the salesperson wrote down. Now I dont know what size I am, have to go back in the store to try it on, and start all over with the waitlist. I seriously cannot believe how disgusting the customer service is at thsi company. read more

I came in to have my bracelet repaired. At first it was a very smooth experience. I filled out the form and was told 4-6 weeks and that I would be getting an email soon after I left the store. I never received an email and about a week and a half later I had to call and ask the woman who helped me to resend the email I never received and made sure she had the correct email in my profile. Then about 7 weeks after I dropped of my bracelet, I still hadn't received an email that it was ready to be picked up. So then I had to call, again, to see what was happening and she said the email had been sent over a week ago. I never got that email, it was not in my junk and never got to me. I had authorized someone else to pick up my bracelet and when that person went in, the woman told her that her name was not on my profile as the person authorized to pick up the item. This turned out to be a very stressful and bad experience overall. read more
