While we were standing in line to pay, an employee named Lesly stopped us and asked to see the tag on her clothing in front of everyone. Her tags are worn out, so they could not verify that it said swimwear. She was singled out and made to feel different. She was then not allowed in the pool because of her clothing, even though her brother was wearing the same type of swimwear and no one questioned him or asked to see his tag. I understand that pools have rules, but rules should be applied consistently and with compassion. My concern is not just the rule -- it is why my daughter was singled out when another child wearing the same type of clothing was not. I spoke with the supervisor hoping to resolve the situation. She asked to speak with Alexa, but by that point Alexa was already too stressed and overwhelmed to go back in. The experience had already affected her. She was hurt, embarrassed, and felt left out while watching her siblings enjoy the pool. The supervisor told me she trusted her employees, but I did not feel that my concerns were truly heard or that anyone took the time to understand the impact this had on my daughter. I also contacted the city's Human Resources department to report what happened and request follow-up, but I have not received a response. I hope the city reviews how situations like this are handled and provides better training for staff. A little understanding, patience, and kindness could have prevented a very painful experience for a child with autism.

The place isn't big and if it is crowded, I can see it being a drag to wait. Fortunately for us we didn't have to wait and within an hour, my kid was beat. Recently used the hall for a party. Overall, I had an ok experience, but they are very unorganized…read moreover there. When I arrived to set up, the hall was still dirty even though you pay a 500 cleaning fee to have it cleaned. I had to wait until the guy cleaned it to set up. The blinds in the hall are broken and the ceiling tiles were all loose. We had to fix them even though I had told them a month earlier that I wanted them fixed. The trash is not thrown out regularly and there was fruit flies everywhere, we had to throw our food out because they got into it. To top it off, the power went off during our party and the band couldn't play for 1 hour. The next day we were supposed to pick up our rental tables and chairs and no one came to open the hall. I waited for hours to see if someone would show up and they didn't. I had to return the next day again and pick up the rentals. My guest really liked the place though and it is really big inside and out for a party. The staff was very apologetic and as helpful and they could be.

It's great that there are dog parks here but the experience is a little weird…read more The large dog park was closed and there were lots of people around walking dogsvin the regular park, but no one in the small dog park. There are water foundations with fountains at floor level for dogs, but they shoot out so far the water doesn't go into the bowl, in fact, it squirts the waiting dog in the face. There are curbs along the driveways that say no parking but everyone seems to park there instead of in the parking lot. Adult soccer games were going on so there were groups of adults hanging out by their cars on the street, it seemed like quite the party going on in the middle of the day. Overall, it seems like this park has a lot of potential, but it needs some tweaks to be running properly. Best part, there was a cool butterfly garden near the dog park area!

There has been numerous new shopping plazas and businesses that have sprung up where rundown locations used to sit. And one tell tale sign of the area's improvement is this small park sitting along Slauson. I was pretty surprised to find this place, and I came here one day to see what I can find. As it turns out, this place is an oasis of sorts. The trails in this park, however short, provide for an escape from the concrete jungle that surrounds this park. There is lush greenery, ponds, and best of all, a peaceful vibe. A visitor's center sits near the entrance, and provides a place for the local community. There are sketchy characters who wander here every once in a while, much like in Tongva park in Santa Monica. Not surprising, but not a good thing either. There are families with kids who come here. I've talked to friends in municipal about it, and I have no doubt they'll find a solution for it. This green space is definitely a step forward in the improvement of Los Angeles. I hope more places like these start popping up in the near future. Let's make LA a better place to live.
