It was far more active in 2016, but there are still low key events such as raps, occasional meet ups at restaurant bars. The first meeting I went to was great featuring Gay tech savvy LGBTQ employed by local engineering companies such as Raytheon, Aerospace Corp. They were encouraging attendees to master STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics). Cool to hear that the tech industries tend to be more inclusive on diversity. Once we met up at the Old Town Music Hall which features silent music w/ accompiment by an elaborate organ played by one of the founders of this esteemed musical venue which also features organ recitals on Sunday afternoons in the charming village of El Segundo. Strange that it doesn't sometimes meet at The Artesia nee Dolphin Gay bar in Redondo Beach on Artesia Boulevard. The center itself is open for visits, but consult their website: southbaycenter.org or telephone them at (310) 328-6550. SB LGBTQ Center is one of the very few Gay venues in the South Bay and so is an important asset to our community.

I would have a hard time believing that's the first time that's ever happened and no one should experience that I think especially in a house of sobriety. Instead of apologizing all he said was if you're gonna pay with a card for a two dollar Gatorade you have to pay an extra dollar because it's a dollar for a credit card or you can give a dollar tip. Well if it was my place I actually would've apologize profusely put the dog outside which he did not do and said no charge for the Gatorade that's on me. That's just the right thing to do at the very least. I hope this means something to anybody that can make a difference keep an aggressive dog out of any public area. And for the records I did nothing to provoke this dog.

I finally had a chance to visit for a Tarzana Music Night last week. What a fun event! Because the weather was being forecasted to be cool with the potential of rain, the event was held indoors. Things were comfortable, but we were in close quarters with the other attendees. The sound was great and the performances were a lot of fun. I was primarily there to see a good friend perform, but I also had the chance to see some other talented musicians. I think each one was a singer songwriter, and I enjoyed each performance. Each one of the people that was working at the venue, which I imagine may have been on a volunteer basis, was friendly and a lot of fun. Normally the music nights are held outdoors, and I can imagine that most of the year, it is a lot of fun being in the open air.

What a cool place I never knew was here! Check out their events on their website! If you write them…read morethey will write you back too. They have a small outdoor stage with string lights hanging beautifully all around, a few picnic tables and fold out chairs for when there's an event to watch. When the chairs aren't there I imagine thats what they use for the outdoor dance floor under the stars, too! A few people brought their dogs on leash. I saw a few people brought in their own food, chilled out and ate while they watched the live band. They do have a very small amount of drinks, chips, and cookies for sale at a stand but thats it so if you don't want junk food def bring what you do want. They do have an indoor bathroom. PARKING - Def uber/LYFT to them. There are only a few spots in the back you can get to from the side street (not from Ventura blvd) and thats it! So do yourself a favor and get a ride. Lyft must know about this place because the driver knew exactly where to meet us in the back when we booked our return. For us it was a calm but fun summer evening hang outside! I don't know what its like without a band playing but hope I get a chance to check that out too.

Enlightenment seemed like an esoteric, out-of-reach goal, and not one I was necessarily interested in pursuing -- not understanding, it had always struck me as an ironically self-focused pursuit. A Zen state of mind, with balance and equanimity -- that seemed interesting. But through the people at the Torrance Zen Center I found that the Zen path is not about the mind, but very much of the heart, and all the compassion the heart is capable of. The practitioners follow the Greater Path, with the intention of helping anyone and everyone through Zen to manifest a better version of themselves. And Enlightenment? It's about helping other people. Becoming in sync with the Greatest Good, however the name given by one's language culture. While the foundational practitioners natively speak Mandarin or Cantonese, they all make a dedicated and successful effort to speak English in teaching, sharing, and casual interactions, for which I am deeply and profoundly grateful. They have graciously and continuously extended a warm, including welcome. I have occasionally felt "odd man out," but: my doing. Their generosity of heart always surges back and I relax a bit more. Shortly after beginning meditation practice, I noticed, to my surprise, that many people - some I knew and some I didn't - suddenly seemed more comfortable around me, eager to talk and share whatever was on their minds. Positive feelings and experiences began to dominate my life, all while retaining and improving family relations, growing friendships, and more easily establishing new connections with people. Life is short. Five Stars!
