If you are looking for brats, this is the wurst!! I tried the samples and all were great. I opted for the Curry Brat. I'm not sure where the "curry" in the name came from, but this had a very mild taste with a hint of heat. So I got the Curry Brat which came on a pretzel bun, (I added mustard) and potato chips and a crisp pickle spear. I also hit the beer tasting bar. All were good. Two of my faves: I like darker beers that have some flavor and the Buck Ale was smooth and flavorful. The Blackberry Cider which would be great for dessert. read more

I see all the positive reviews, but unfortunately, we did not have the same experience. I ordered a turkey sandwich, and it was pitiful. The turkey was slimy and looked like something you would buy at a gas station deli. (I don't mean to knock on a gas station deli, but we are talking about expectations here and my expectation of a 10.00 sandwich is a bit more than gas station cuisine.) It actually is not the bad sandwich that caused me to write this review. It was the way I was treated when I took the sandwich back. I apologized and stated that I just couldn't eat the slimy turkey sandwich. The response was an aggressive "why!" The angry woman with braids at the counter offered me another sandwich, but I politely declined. She then turned her back on me and that was that. My husband had to go back to the counter and request our money back. By the way, my husband had the bratwurst, and he said it was "average" and surprisingly bland. I have to update my review after a year of eating the sausages I bought on my first trip, and upon my return visit. I have to say that every time I eat something I bought at the Hermann Wurst Haus, I spend a moment reflecting on the fact that that's one of the best sausages I've ever had. This was our first stop on our first trip to Hermann and it was the perfect jumping off point. The food is amazing!!

Well this was a wonderful spot. The owner snagged up upon entering and invited us to do a taste test. It was awesome! The selection was wonderful. The meals hearty, but not too filling, and the staff friendly as can be. I had braunschweiger, chips a few brats and bread pudding. Wow...it was amazing! I can't wait to go back! This was one of the highlights of Hermann, and I look forwards to having another go at it. The owners were wonderful as well. Very talkative and friendly. I honestly can't say enough! Hmmm...seeing lots of good reviews on the pear Gorgonzola brat...we tried it and it was not good...very mushy on the inside...like maybe not cooked through? Could be why we had the "wurst" stomach cramps (as well as what follows) after our meal. The "award winning" brat that we had was delicious...and the mustard potato salad we are still talking about...awesome. Bread pudding was just ok...did not taste incredibly fresh. The moment you walk into this Hermann eatery you will be hit with the clear....distinct....unapologetic....smell of....SAUSAGE. The smoky musk floats in the air and pulls you into the store. We chose this place because of the other Yelp reviews on a planned day trip for Father's Day into lovely Hermann for lunch. The shop is right off "main street" among many other quaint little shops, wineries and restaurants. When we walked in there is deli counter off to the right and we were greeted by a friendly young woman who asked if this was our first visit. We said yes and she suggested we sample before making our selections. The "wurstmeister" who hand-makes all the sausage was the doler-outer of the samples. He was knowledgeable and knew his spiel very well. He seemed a little grumpy but was generally ok. We liked all the varieties sampled and were ready to place our order. We chose to split a couple of platters with two bratwursts atop some kraut with two sides of our choice. You wouldn't think this is much food but it is PLENTY! The wursts sneak up on you and you will find yourself feeling full after 1/2 a sausage. Good mustard potato salad, great kraut. The ambiance of this place is perfect for Hermann....it's a bit country store, a bit deli - it's got an old time feel with a modern twist. I liked the look quite a bit. You'll find buffalo heads on the walls with chalk signs too. What would make it better? I know this sounds strange but....something more to cut the fat of the sausage. If you're not used to eating like that it can be overwhelming. Also, the beer and wine is sold on the other side of store separate from the deli...the layout was weird. Discouraged on my visit to this place last time in town. I travel a lot and came to the Wurst Haus twice in the same week in the last few months. I hadn't been here for a few years but was always pleasant before these visits. The owner has free samples which are of the 4 brats they are serving for lunch/dinner time. There were around 6 of us tasting the brats. The owner is cutting the samples and makes it as quick as possible. At the same time he has a microphone on and is basically trying to sell the product to the store while we are right in front of him. A few people had questions and were ignored and basically felt like a routine that wasn't genuine. Might as well just have a free sample sign, have the brats cut and labeled, and have someone else lift the lid. Just felt very weird and two of the people walked out afterwards. We all have bad days so I went back on the weekend for breakfast buffet thinking it was just one of those days earlier in the week. While I have been to this place a number of times before I have never had breakfast buffet. You pay at the counter which is common, I grabbed a drink, and went to the buffet line. They gave me a ticket at the register but that was it. I am in line and have a few things on my plate already. The owner comes up to me and asked if I have my ticket. I said yes they gave me one at the counter and it is in my pocket. You can literally see it halfway out of my pocket. He literally said you can't advance unless I have that ticket. I was holding my plate in one hand with food on it and a hot lid with the other. I said you are going to have to wait a minute until I put the lid down. He looked pissed off and felt like I was a thief the way he treated that situation. I am in my 50's and this is the owner doing this. While I was eating I noticed there was an employee lifting the lids, stirring the food, and taking tickets. When I walked up to the buffet there was no one doing that. Either the front person at the register needs to tell the customer about what to do with the ticket or need to have someone at the buffet each minute it is going on. Also, glad I took my time with the lid as I saw the younger girl at the buffet burn her hand with one of the lids. Cheap pair of heat resistant gloves might be nice for your staff. I would avg the food at 4 stars on my visits, quality customer service took the week off for vacation. I think the food is above average, staff for most part is friendly, but definitely not putting anymore money into this place after the owner acted like that. read more

Fun local fun. We did come on a Sunday, so it was not crowded and there was plenty of opportunity to browse. The staff was friendly. I have spent several years in Germany, but this was a nice themed restaurant that did a good job trying to capture the towns heritage. I will return to sample the huge variety of in-house wurst and various other goods. I do have to agree with the other reviews regarding the wurst presenter. He might need a break. This Wurst House was recommended as "the best bratwurst I've ever had" from some good friends of ours who are chefs, so we decided to make an hour detour from our destination just to check it out. What I was not expecting was for my husband to start looking for real estate in Hermann after having such an amazing experience here (let alone scoping the location out for a cot in the back). The entire staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful. It was also very clear that the owner not only knows exactly what he is doing when it comes to making the most amazing bratwurst known to man, but also welcomed us in and immediately brought us back for samples and a full explanation of the process. Wonderful hospitality aside, the food was beyond amazing. The location is well worth taking a trip off of I-70 to see an idyllic and historical town that will take your breath away with its quaint beauty. Not only will we do our best to find an excuse to come back to Missouri for this awesome location, but we will be lifetime customers as they also have online ordering and nationwide delivery for their extensive selection of meat and home-brewed spirits (in addition to a bunch of other things but those were the main things we tried). As a heads up, don't expect white table cloths and candles, but expect a low key, friendly atmosphere with lots to try and literally some of the best flavors to ever touch your tongue (unless you are a vegetarian-but the house made German potato salad is also to die for). If you want a taste of German food, this is the place to go. My husband and I recently spent a weekend in Hermann, MO. As we drove around the small town we quickly found the Wurst Haus. We stopped for dinner and ordered a couple Brats on a bun with sauerkraut, which I usually don't care for, but they were delicious. Wish they had a sample platter. The German chocolate cake was moist and delicious as well. There was much to choose from as well as a market to take some home along with cheeses, jellies, etc. It was a large indoor casual space which is most likely packed during Oktober Fest. I spent the weekend in Hermann with my family enjoying the wineries and beautiful scenery. We attended the comedy night at the Wurst Haus, which was the one planned event of the trip. What was unplanned, was our enjoyment of every single meal at this hidden gem. We originally planned on dinner at the comedy night, but that soon evolved into trying their breakfast and lunch offerings. My family has been visiting this town for decades and managed to somehow overlook this wonderful deli/restaurant. That is a mistake we will not make again. The family running this shop is so friendly and the variety of traditional German meats is quite large. The pear and gorgonzola wurst was my favorite. I highly recommend their food! Their beer is good, or you can purchase one of the many local wines that they carry. Just walk into this store and you will be greeted by Mike (the owner), who will gladly answer all of your questions. Their wurst samples are a great way to decide which flavor you prefer. They also have samples of their other meats in the refrigerator cases. Also, for the reviewer that complained about the price. These are artisan meats crafted by a man that grew up practicing the art of traditional German meat curing. Go somewhere else if you want a cheap bite.
