Best of Show Bratwurst with potato salad
    Steven M.

I don't get the hype. I understand it's a German thing but we just didn't think it was that great. We went on a Saturday in mid-December at about 2pm and it took a few minutes to get a table. Two Best In Show wursts, potato salad, slice of chocolate cake and two bottles of water. Cost just over $40! The wursts have a.....how can I explain it....an authentic taste and I just don't like it. It's like a liver/organ meat taste. The only thing that comes up when I try to look it up is caraway seeds. That can't be it but I just don't get it. We had just come back from Bavaria a few weeks ago and several dishes we tried had that "funk". Please tell me if you go there and order this dish. Message me, leave a thumbs up, I just need to know if other people can taste it like my wife and I both do. The potato salad was ok. The chocolate cake slice was a typical cake slice you get anywhere else. I think it was the best thing we had there. We walked around the store part of Wurst Haus and they do have quite a selection of things, quite a selection of wurst if that's what you are looking for. Quite a few spices, soup mixes, etc. If it wouldn't be for the gift card we received from our German friends I don't think we'd be back. Again, I just don't get the hype. Let me know what you think.

Oh my! I had read one erroneous review here about how small the brats were and I must say, whoever said that was very picky. I'd like to think I'm picky but this was delicious. The casing on this bratwurst is very thin and easy to chew. We had the sauerkraut and baked beans plate, and I can honestly say that if you are looking for a place to eat in Hermann, come here. Enough said. There are high recommendations for this place, and you would be a fool to not at least stop by a sample something. I ended up buying some brats to take home and I later bought some for my son who lives out of town. The service is good too, as they make sure if you have any questions they get answered. Another cool feature is that outside they have a vending machine to purchase brats after hours. How cool is that?

Excellent. What a gem of a place. Stopped by later in the afternoon on a weekday on our way to Jeff City. Tried a few of their sausages. All of them were outstanding. Really liked their potato salads as well. Wife liked their mustard. Definitely a must stop/visit. We're already planning to go back and stock up (buy 5 get 1 free).

Went to Hermann Wurst Haus for a late dinner and tried their pulled pork as well as their Braunschweiger sandwiches. Holy cow they were fantastic! We also ordered sides with the sandwiches, they had German potato salad as well as baked beans, Cole slaw and an assortment of other sides to choose from. We also ordered the carrot cake for dessert, that was wonderful, so good....check them out, they also have sausages you can grab and go!!

I enjoyed a hot turkey with swiss on a pretzel bun with mustard and a side of red cabbage. People were around, but not too busy on a weekday. Food was ready quickly with friendly staff. Street parking was available. Interior is very cool with a lot of brick and wood styling. It is a combination of a sandwich shop and deli store with various and sundry food items.

Aside from Bavaria, arguably some of the best German sausages you will find... We've been coming to Hermann Oktoberfest for years and always stop by the THWH. If you've ever been to Schmidt's Sausage Haus in Columbus (which has been featured on the Food Network and is widely considered one of the best German restaurants in the Midwest), then you will love THWH. We're Schmidt's regulars, but honestly, THWH sausages are better... We buy all their brats, etc. online and they're nothing short of outstanding - THWH is a complete gem and must try when in Hermann.

We were in town for a few days and needed somewhere for breakfast. Looked online and saw they had an all you can eat buffet 16.99. We were both very disappointed. The biscuits were rock hard the sausage and gravy were spicy and very salty. The scrambled eggs were dry and just blah. The bacon was very good but got salted the more we ate it. The sausage was honestly very good. Plus the donut holes and the quesadillas bites. Overall don't waste your money. Service ---walking in the lady greeted us told us what we needed to know but kept talking to her coworker. The Lady that served us the buffet was super nice and I give her kiddos she was the best of the experience. The ambiance - was a nice open bar with plenty of seating.

Stopped in with a group of friends to stock up on some sausage and bacon from the award winning sausage masters. Love this place, great service, awesome selection of everything smoked.

The brats were dry and tough. We were here right at lunch time. We will not come back.

Overrated. I went based on the Yelp ratings. Disappointed. The cashier was brusk and unfriendly. The brisket was cold.

About 2 hours in we see signs on highway 54 for "Barnyard Smokehouse". Drooling over the signs and starving my wife start calculating by the time we arrive at our destination it'll be too late to eat with family so we follow the signs. There's no offramp, just hang an instant right off the highway onto the dirt road at the barnyard. Used to clearly marked offramps I missed it and had to take a detour. Luckily in Missouri you can make u-turns on the freeway :-D The entire property is the "Central Missouri Meat & Sausage". There's a deli, market, and restaurant called "Barnyard Smokehouse". Beef and pork is locally raised and butchered on site. Walking in the door we're greeted by warm and friendly people telling us to sit wherever. The restaurant is inside the market/deli to the right. Lots of tables. To start we order some fried pickles. They're sliced thin and battered in cornmeal and served with ranch dressing which is one of the food groups in Missouri. I wish the pickles used were more sour but they tasted really good. For dinner I had their smoked brisket with Texas toast, BBQ beans and Mac-n-Cheese. My wife had the same thing but with "bacon, cheddar, and ranch potato salad" and mac-n-cheese. When it came out I was skeptical since the tri-tip came out in paper thin slices but I shouldn't have judged a pile of meat by its looks since it was fantastic. Beef was saturated with smoky goodness and due to the thin cuts it was super tender. On the table was several made in house BBQ sauces. I really enjoyed their spicy one and my wife liked the sweet one. Side dishes were great too. Due to our odd flight times we only had a tiny sandwich on the airplane so we both devoured everything on our plates. While waiting for our food I walked over to the dessert case and perused. Another standard item in Missouri are refrigerated whip creamed based "pies". We ordered the oreo cookie one. It was gut busting rich. Thick slab of dense vanilla custard topped with crushed oreos and whipped cream. Super rich and decadent. We both felt like we were going to burst after our meals but it was a great start to our vacation. When walking around the market after we saw these giant 6 to 7 foot cured meat sticks made from pork. Since we were going to a potluck in a few days we got 4 of them and at the party cut them up into bite sized pieces. These pork sticks are AMAZING. The BBQ flavor was the favorite followed by the jalapeno. They have them in more reasonable sized pieces too that are vacuum sealed. I bought some for myself and some co-workers. If you find yourself driving on Highway 54 through Fulton, MO do yourself a favor and follow the signs to this great place!!
