Looked to be a very nice place. Very large selection of sausage, brats, and jerky as well as beer and wine and a nice deli counter. We stopped in and looked around and was offered a sampling of 4 brats with descriptions by the owner. They were all very tasty. We talked to the owner for a bit and then said that we were going to do our sight seeing and stop in on our way home to get some meat and cheeses. That way they didn't set in a warm car all day. He told us that he would be open until 6pm. We rushed through our dinner at Tin Mill across the street to get back over to the Wurst House before 6pm. Arriving at 5:35pm we found the door locked. Talked to about a dozen people out front and they confirmed that they found the store closed as well. There was someone walking around inside but they wouldn't open the door. Sadly, most of this rating is based on their poor business practices. We came from 90 minutes away and didn't get to bring anything back with us. Loved it, loved the location and we'll definitely return! Everything we ate was delicious: bratwurst 2 types of potato salad and other basic sides. My husband even ordered the largest pretzel we've ever seen which came with melted beer cheese. The place isn't fancy but it's fast and good. You order and pay the cashier, grab your bottles drinks (water, soda, no refills), then pick a table and wait just a few minutes for the food to arrive. There are rolls of paper towels on the tables along with salt and pepper, plastic ware is located in bins nearby, but I think staff will get it for you if you don't. Weird place. The people working here aren't too pleasant.. . and when we were there on a weekday, there were 3 patrons besides us in there. They have a lot of things, great selection of soda, candy, and bratwursts. Maybe I don't "get it," but their bratwursts aren't very good, or weren't during the visit. I wish them well. Food was good...although they forgot our order when it wasnt very busy claiming the ticket was lost. They made up for it by giving plentiful sides which was nice. The hours on the door say 2, but online it says 4 and the open sign was still lit, but that is no excuse to treat the guests like a burden. Can I give a zero star rating? Wurst people skills. Went out of my way to visit the shop today having purchased over a hundred of their sausages previously. Prepared to purchase at least another forty today. Noted the hot cooked samples of four of their varieties; we were ready to taste the ones in the pan. They provide samples, but only if you attend a group 'class'. None if the staff were particularly engaging but the sausage demo guy was just plain unfriendly. Once a few of us were assembled he is ready and hides the toothpicks! My partner was unable to get a sampling toothpick because she was 'late to his class' After he starts 'class', the front row (of three) get a sample, he moves to the next sausage. I move in to get a sample of the first one; he slaps it away and says "no, you can't have that one". What an idiot. I tossed my basket back in the stack. It's in a big room, with a deli counter in one part, meat display cases in another part, and places to sit and eat in another part. Excellent bread pudding as well - good consistency and not too sweet, though the pecans on top tasted a bit stale. Also had a great house-brewed German style beer on tap. If you're not fully sated, you can grab a pack of frozen brats for the frying pan or campfire from a selection of fifty different varieties. My girls (11 & 5) and I decided to come visit Hermann and have some authentic German food. We were originally going to try the Vintage Restaurant at Stone Hill Winery, but this place was recommended as a great place for kids. My kids were not impressed. We didn't come to try BBQ, which is what the place smelled like, and while the bratwurst I had tasted okay, I'm not sure what kind of potato salad that was. I had a grandma and mom who made German potato salad, and even in comparing it to other German potato salads I've had, this one did not compare. Worst. Ever. It just tasted like hot cooked semi-mashed potatoes with no flavor. None whatsoever. The pickled cabbage was okay, but warm. I wasn't sure if it's supposed to be warm or not. Overall, I feel like the meal was a huge waste of money. Neither of my girls liked the hot dog they each got, and the best part of their lunches was the chips. We stopped in here about a week ago during the horrible winter weather. I was hesitant to come here because I'm not a huge fan of sausages/brats (with the exception of breakfast sausage). We sampled their daily offerings - pear Gorgonzola, the medal winner one, and 2 others. The pear Gorgonzola was AWESOME! I think we all ended up purchasing it with their lunch special. I liked everything so much I took advantage of their 5 for the price of 4 offering. I'm also not a huge sauerkraut fan, but it pairs well with their sausages and whatever mayo stuff they drizzle on top. I had cheesy potatoes and bread pudding for my side. I loved the potatoes and the bread pudding was just so-so. I will definitely come back on my next Hermann visit. read more

I liked the brat but the staff, excluding one young lady, had the worst attitude. Unfortunately on their website the hours for a Saturday was open until 4 but started closing on customers at 2 or 3. Women in tie dye with black short hair was rolling eyes with a sour attitude about not being out of here while taking our order. I took the making bacon class here on February 15th, 2020. This was my second class at this business. Mike Sloan did a good job of explaining the process of making bacon at home. The process we used was the dry cure process. This is a totally different then the wet cure process of most commercial bacon. It was especially helpful to have Mike actually break down half a hog, and explain each component as he butchered it. I feel the instructions were clear and understandable. The class began with sampling several varieties of bratwurst. Why? Mike wanted to impress upon our thinking that there is more than one way to make bacon, other than just the traditional bacon flavor most would be able to relate to. After having the Apple Maplewurst for dinner the night before at a neighboring restaurant, we went to the source. This place make some of the best, traditional German-style sausages I' ve ever had. We were having a ladies wine weekend in Hermann, but this place dragged us off of the wine trail with their tasty offerings. I loved the huge variety - they had 30 or more options for sale, each one delicious-soundings. The sausage maker was one sites and described each kind we were interest in and provided samples of 6 different kinds of their sausage. We loved the Apple Maple of course, and the traditional German Wurst was delicious as well. We decided to get the Rueben and Mettwursts as well after sampling. Each pack of 4 was $5.99 & they were running a promotion of buy 4 packs and get 1 free. Of course, we had to stock up! I'm pretty excited to try the Gorgonzola & Carmelized Pear sausages and the Alfredo-flavored Chicken sausage seemed interesting as well. They ship also and I'm sure I'll be ordering more before long. The place is half deli as well offering hot dogs ($3.99), bratwurst combos ($11.99), cold cut sandwiches and a variety of local beers ($3/bottle) and wines to each right there. Stopped in here for lunch as we were strolling the streets of Hermann and this is a must see if you're into meats. You can taste the day's offerings for free - this day they had 4 types of brats. Once we tasted, we made our orders at the deli shop (I got the original brat on a bun with chips; my husband got the currybrat on a bun with chips) and they have fountain drinks along with a wide variety of bottled drinks and brews. They deliver the food to the table you're at and be ready to dig right in and not have anything left on your plate. The brat's taste goes really well with the pretzel bun it is served with. Food was awful! Our sausage was burnt, the bread pudding was like glue, the potato salad was lukewarm. Absolutely terrible. The 3 people working there had absolutely no joy or enthusiasm, monotone voices. Made us felt like we were a burden with our orders. Overpriced and gross food!!!!!!!
