The Wurst Haus is the worst. Over the years we have given this place multiple chances to win us over. Every single time we have visited we have had a bad experience. I will admit the food I've had there has been good. However service is atrocious. Today we went there to eat 40 minutes prior to closing. All of the hot food was already put away. They would not serve anything but cold items because they had already cleaned for closing. This was Valentines weekend so their were plenty of potential customers in town. I just want to reiterate every time we have been there it's been a bad experience service wise. Not the workers but the owners. The Wurstmiester and Misses Wurstmiester appear to think they are town celebritys. They are arrogant and don't believe in customer service. A t.v. commercial for the Hermann Wurst Haus was the catalyst for a Saturday excursion to Hermann. We packed a cooler and planned to fill it with wursts. When we arrived at the Wurst Haus we had already eaten lunch but, the delicious smells made me wish I had room for a second lunch. There are several items hot and ready, from wurst to schnitzel and beyond. It's counter service and there is plenty of seating in the store. We will plan to have lunch here the next time we're in Hermann. The grocery section offers a number of specialty grocery items including sauces, cheeses, crackers, local beer and wines, and more. We looked around for a bit and then decided to do the wurst tasting so we could make an informed decision on which ones to take home. Mr. Wurst Haus himself was manning the tasting bar. As other helpers have mentioned, he's not the most personable and had very clear directions on EXACTLY where each person was to stand while tasting his wursts. It was quite humorous and reminded me of a certain character on Seinfeld that was passionate about soup. We were offered 5 sausages to taste. The ones that stood out were pear Gorgonzola (sooooo surprisingly good!) and their award winning best of show. The others were still good, but those were my favorite. Not just a butcher shop my friend. They serve breakfast, lunch, & early dinner. They have so much to choose from it could make your head hurt. But take heart no matter what you order you are getting some of Lower Missouri's best Sausage. Even in the country! Plus you can pick up items to take home with you. They will even ship it to you for a small fee, but well worth it. The Braunschweiger was off the hook. I would order this alone just because it is the best I've ever had & trust me I love to make sandwiches with that & Onion! You place your order at the counter then they bring it to you, It isn't long before you are dining on the best sausage or hot dog you have ever tasted. It's a quaint shop & has that old world charm with the old style service & quality. That's the key, the quality of the food is off the chart. They are true masters of this meat. Certainly glad we picked this place to have lunch. I had the bbq brisket sandwich with loaded baked potato salad and a pasta salad with Gouda cheese. Wife had the chicken salad sandwich. All very good. We then tried the samples of brats - ended up buying 3 pkgs to take home. I am not a huge fan of brats ( the kind you buy at grocery store) but these have totally different taste. It was a slow day but you could imagine the place packed with people with the beer flowin! But the food was so so bad! Wife, and I made this trip to Hermann. We had their Buffet Breakfast which is served by a server. Gone are the days when you can get on the line and choose your food item. Their refrigerated meat section is very extensive with so many choices of Bratwurst, Hot Dogs, Bacon, Boudin Sausages, Head Cheese, etc...and they have a special of purchase 4 packages ($7.99 each), and get the 5th one free. My fiancé and I decided to stop here as we read great things. I'm half German so I was eager to possibly share a small part of my foodie culture with him. Upon entering it was total chaos and there really wasn't any organization. A bus of tourists had just been dropped off so they were filled to maximum capacity. We were hearded to an area where they had a little spiel about their sausages and have samples. The man presenting seemed very put-out and impatient. When i asked if they make Rindswurst, he rudely exclaimed, "no! We don't make that here". Once we finally got our order in for food-which for the price should have been served in a real plate and not styrofoam and plastic as it was mediocre at best. Although the German potato salad was decent, I'll give them credit for that. The The bartender didn't know a thing about the different beers nor could he even say whether or not they sold Pilsner glassware, which I was prepared to buy. As we exit, we thought about purchasing quite a bit of product. We saw a sample table full of venison sausages. There was a sign for "hunters only" but we thought it was a quip because it was all venison meat. We went to sample the sausage and the same man came over and quickly covered the food up with a blanket and said, "this is for hunters only!!" Truth is, if you're offering free samples to hunters providing meats to your butchery than keep them in the back away from your customers! Let me end by saying this place wasn't hurting for money, nor were they going to go broke offering up some small sample of the venison. Not only did we feel uncomfortable, we felt like we were being treated like children and scolded for taking a sample by mistake Needless to say, this business lost a big sale today and we will never return. I really like German food. I have been known to plan travel around the availability of German food. That's how I landed here for lunch on a Thursday. I'm really glad I found this place! My lunch was not exactly what I expected to find when I programmed their address into my GPS but I am delighted with the overall experience. I had a bratwurst with two sides. I generally consider sides to be a mixed proposition: when they're good, I'm happy; when they suck, I don't usually care that much. My two side dishes were both delicious and I ate almost all of both. I had the German potato salad (served warm, little bits of bacon, very faint taste of vinegar) and their braised red cabbage. Yum! They weren't offering a plain brat so I was forced to choose from amongst several varieties, each of which included additional ingredients. I selected the caramelized pear and Gorgonzola variety. It was a perfect combination of flavors. The fattiness of a pork bratwurst matched nicely with the sweetness of the pear and the stinky cheese attributes of Gorgonzola. Add in a pronounced level of smokiness, stick it on a pretzel bun and you have a seriously impressive combination. Note: they sell their brats from the cases in the back of the store area. We stayed at one of the few places in town that does not serve breakfast. I was worried that we wouldn't be able to find something, but lucky for me, Hermann Wurst Haus has a delicious breakfast platter! On Saturdays and Sundays, they start serving breakfast at 8 AM. They have cinnamon rolls and then breakfast platters. The breakfast platter comes with scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, a 1/4 cinnamon roll, and then two biscuits and gravy. All of this is for only $8.99. I thought it was the perfect size and the food was delicious. My favorite had to be either the sausage or the bacon. Both were excellent. The service was fast and friendly. I also appreciated that we were able to sit either inside or outside. I will definitely check them out again when I'm in Hermann and am in need of a great breakfast! read more

I loved this place! I felt as though I was in Germany. During our trip to Hermann we walked by this place a few times, and the amazing smells that came out drew us inside. We were reconnected to go there for lunch by our trolley driver, and I'm so glad we did! I would have gone there over and over. The food was ready so fast and was delicious! This place was the wurst! We went during ocktoberfest which is the busiest time of year. Food was great! Some of the best brats money can buy. Their potato salad was very unique german potato salad. They had their own beers, great local selections, and you could buy whole bottles from the different local wineries. Staff were nice and the place was clean. The only reason this is a 4 star review is because this place was closing at 6pm during the busiest weekend for the town. I didn't have any expectations when our group picked this restaurant on our trip to Herman but I was still disappointed. The waitress was untrained and unfamiliar with the menu. I picked the elk steak and I still can't figure out how freshly grilled steak can be served lukewarm. It would have been good except for that. The vegetable medley was also cold and unseasoned. The others in my group were equally underwhelmed with their selections. We visited on a Saturday night and were surprised to find that the restaurant closed at eight o'clock as the staff lurked about waiting for us to leave.
