All the coaches are great but big shout out to Jacob Palomino and Ray Jimenez. Jacob dedicates so much time to these kids not only teaching the classes but doing privates. The same with coach Ray, except this guy brought the organization that every team needs. He will hand out a schedule of events during every season so parents know which tournaments Smash plans to attend. Coach Jacob and Ray are truly amazing and the kids love them because they truly care for the kids and have great energy. Now, I have been a fitness trainer for 5+ years and recently left my previous gym to get more involved at Smash SJ (where my kids have been). On top of being a trainer, I also keep up with my workouts. I have been in bootcamp classes, TRX, personal training, strength training, some kickboxing, jiu jitsu, etc... I started to take Smash's fitness classes; Bootcamp, Strength and Conditioning and Kettlebell. Their selection is endless. Every coach knows what they're doing and they know how to motivate you. However, a big shout out goes to the kettlebell coach Ash. This guy truly knows the mechanism of the human body and has a great vibe and energy. Now on to the great part, for me. My girls start each class with seriousness but leave with light hearted smiles. It was honestly one of the best experiences of my life. Tons of friends and even had a fling or two. Looking back, this place built me into the man I am today. Confident, strong and disciplined. This place set me up to teach Taekwondo at my church in a life group, another great experience.. Overall.. The dojo is set up like a warehouse, but don't let that fool you. The extra space, hard carpet, and high ceilings were all pluses, training wise. They had sandbags set up, vending machines, training gears, even weights. I was an assistant instructor but I never forced impossible stretches as the above reviewer said, but you can always tell them not to do that. Come on, they aren't there to hurt you. Unfortunately you can get a bad instructor but in my hay day, the instructors were great. Like a sensei. The training is intense and works up a real sweat, with the occasional sparring three times a week. This was my favorite part of training, and I would do it without gear, but for kids, its extremely safe and fun. It builds up self defense confidence and replaces fear with fun. I would recommend this dojo for kids/beginners or those that want to dabble in martial arts or mma.
