Our insurance company paid for a Hertz rental while our car was being repaired. We picked up the car at the California Drive location in Burlingame. The car was in good shape, the only complaint I had was the front windshield was filthy. There were rings from the previous driver's stick-on GPS suction cups. What a treat! Normally walking into to car rental shop is like walking into the mall on Black Friday. Bunch of crazies and a long line of the waiting game. Thankfully no Black Friday madness for me at this hertz rental. My car is being serviced next door at Mazda and they recommended that I use hertz next door. They walked me over and introduced me to the manager,Chris. Unfortunately they were out of car at that moment but the manger was nice in explaining when more cars should come in. I had to cheat on them and go to enterprise. Boy was the a mistake. What a waste of time. They had me waiting for over an hour on a car and when it finally "came" it had garbage in it from the previous driver. It was so filthy! I refused to take it and called hertz later in the day to see if any cars came in. It was around 5 something in the afternoon and they close at 6. The manager Chris said they had a car and they would save it for me. I jumped into my lyft from sf and headed over there and walked in at 5:51 and Chris took care of me as he promised. I was in and out less than 10 mins. And get this... The car was CLEAN!!! It was a pleasant experience working with someone professional who didn't waste my time. thank you again Chris!! read more

This place has terrible customer service and are horrible neighbors. For some reason they are unable to put a garbage can by their door, so there is always trash in front of their door (which is actually located in Highland Ave. and NOT on California Drive). They are constantly blocking the street and driveways of the residences. They send their customers across the street to smoke in front of houses. They have had several issues with the police and building departments. Do not rent from here! read more

Sometimes you write a review to commend great service and sometimes the review is to right a wrong. I am attempting to do both. I have no idea why some folks have written really petty reviews about this Hertz location. First I want to start by saying, there is absolutely nothing bad about this Hertz car rental establishment. Let's me start by the location. It's perfectly located in Burlingame where it is not difficult to find. Contrary to the other negative reviews about the customer service, I found the customer service to be excellent. The lady who helped me named Janae was extremely pleasant, helpful and friendly. She was very competent and efficient. One of the earlier reviews mentioned something about the gas tank not being full. My tank was not full either; however, this information was fully disclosed and you are clearly told that you had an option of buying the gas from them or taking the car the way it was. It was an option not a requirement and by the way, this is common all over the country. The other negative reviewers also stated that this was not a "nice" place. It's true that this was not a gigantic new facility like you normally expect at the San Francisco International Airport but the trade off is that this location is in a neighborhood and it substantially cheaper to rent here rather than at the airport. It was also unreasonable for one of the reviewers to complain about them not accepting cash. Let me get this straight. We are not in the 80's. Car rentals facilities don't accept cash. In short, I had a very good experience at this Hertz location. For those of you that read the negative reviews against this positive one, my suggestion is to look at what the bad reviews are bottomed on and you will find that they are based on unreasonable expectation and lack of understanding the car rental experience. Come on, this is not a daycare facility. If the car is 1/4 full instead of 1/2 full when you drove off or you are dumb enough to let them fill up the gas tank for $9.29 per gallon, which is untrue because that they would fill your car up without your consent, then you deserve to be duped. read more

Honestly the worst decision I've made. If you want to drive to make extra money, go through Uber. This hertz location has the most unprofessional, disorganized workers. I had a nail in my tire and came in to have them fix it. when I came back a few weeks later they had no record of fixing the tire and the manager, who helped me the first time, kept asking me for the dates of the maintenance. I was talking to him again and he didn't give me eye contact and was texting on his cell phone while I was asking him questions. do no come to this location. read more

Don't use this location or hertz in general They charged my credit card over $1500 in rental charges , I had the car 2 days and returned it to the valet at my hotel, same place I picked up the car. Customer service is no help and are rude and have no customer service skills. Use enterprise , stay away from Hertz. Trust me, this company is a mess and the most unorganized group I have ever seen. Hotwire has address at 101 California, Burlingame, CA. Spent $16 for a taxi to the new location on Bayshore. Mgr wouldn't honor the refund. Then they lose my taxi receipt. What a bunch of losers! But the counter Rep was a nice and appropriate. He needs back up. Slow service. read more

The very best thing about this location is their Manager Cecil, he really cares. The thing that makes it so tough for individual off airport rental sites, is so much is out of their control. All auto rental companies try to only keep the exact number of cars that are reserved for each location. All it takes is a few of us to return our cars hours or days late and they are left with less than anticipated. You may say "that's their problem not mine." Well your right. But the people behind the counter are human beings too. They are just trying to pay their rent and keep food on the table, a lot is out of their control. Be kind to the employees of rental companies, rip the company a new one on Twitter, Yelp, FB for not providing them what they need. I rent constantly and let me tell you compassion will get you much more from all your travel needs. They deal with crappy attitudes all day long, would that grind on you after a while? I recently rent a car from their place and the experience was horrible. I was charged $19.75 after retuning my car. I called back and was told I prepaid the gas - A BIG SURPRISE - I clearly told John, the guy who prepared the rental document for me that I would return the car with the same gas level and not elect the prepay option but this guy still put this option on my agreement without telling me. When I called back their attitute was really bad. I finally called their customer service and argued back the money. Reminder: Please check carefully when you sign the agreement! There might be any hidden fees you thought they wouldn't charge you. Don't trust that guy. read more

Ok, it's been over a month and Casey is gone. According to the staff, it was voluntary. Coincidence? I think not! Regardless, the new guy, whose name I'll need to remember next time, is much better, nicer and most importantly, quieter! I also want to make it clear that I have no beef with the Lyft guys and gals! They're much more helpful, understanding, and seem to value the drivers more. The rest of the Hertz staff aren't exactly the happiest people on the planet, but slightly improved by treating drivers better, as well. Great experience with the rental. I booked online at Hertz.com a month in advance, and upon check-in,the vehicle was available as planned. The Initial check-in was quick and friendly, the look-over and review of the vehicle to be rented was very detail-oriented, with a full report being emailed to me of any dings and scratches that were there previous to my rental. The fees were exactly as described (caveat: watch out for toll fees, recommend you pay cash always as we did), and the return process was quick and painless. Both hard and soft copy (via) of the final check out fees were provided to me. In particular, I'd like to recognize Chris at the rental location for his exceptional service, friendliness, and thoroughness in ensuring my complete satisfaction. Terrible service - I reserved a car online, and walked over to their location to pick up my rental, only to be told they wouldn't have any cars for a couple hours. When I asked the counter agent why I was able to make a reservation even though they had no cars, he said "great question, I don't know how to answer that." I've worked in the car rental industry in the past, and I know this is difficult for them to deal with, but even a simple "I'm sorry" would have helped. He said nothing, just looked at me like I was the idiot for reserving a car. I definitely won't be going back there. read more

I want people to know that the manager here and Sara will give you the most nightmare to add charges on your rental agreement . WORST SERVICE. I remembered well our conversation while we (SARA AND I ) WERE outside showing me the vehicle and asked me if I would like a damage fee which I told her clearly that whatever insurance pay that's all and I Agreed that no other charges. I signed and left believing that all is taken care of. Because I trusted her that no other charges will be on my card and guess what when I returned the car and I did clean it. She checked and I asked that whatever pending charges will be returned on card. She told me that its a charged. I freaked out and told her that I made it clear that no other charges. she cant look at me and the manager said that you signed for it and I told him that of course I signed the paperwork but I didn't authorize any additional fee. I returned the car super clean and same condition as they provided. I was talking to Sara and she can't look me in the eyes and stay quiet, She knew that I didn't agree with that. These people are scammers and the manager will get money. They will not listen. I think they have been doing these to a lot of people. This is ABSOLUTELY THE WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH IN THE WORLD. I am a Lyft driver and I rented a car from this company is so disorganized between the corporate and the people at the location. They have absolutely no communication. The manager told me not to worry I could keep the car that I had, your suppose to switch them out ever 30 days. Corporate is calling harrasing me, the manager is telling me I can keep the car until they get another car for me to use. Well corporate ends up reporting the car stolen after the management at the counter tells me I can keep the car until another one is available for me to switch out. I ended up with a $20,000 warrant for my arrest for A CAR THAT WAS RETURNED!!!!! I HAVE NEVER EVEN HAD A SPEEDING TICKET IN MY LIFE!!!!! PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST!!! I've only had really good experiences here. I have rented about 4 or 5 times while my car is in the shop. I have always gotten served pretty promptly, with the exception of once when I had to wait a bit, and upon return they are very prompt. Janae was especially helpful and friendly. They also take and pick me up to the auto shop and I get a good rate due to a deal they have with the auto shop (Shafer Tire and Auto). read more

Amazing service. I was treated like a vip, even though I was simply renting via my auto insurance while my car was repaired. They gave me the car I wanted, answered all of my questions, made eye contact and greeted me as soon as I entered while they helped other customers. This was by far the friendliest rental car experience I've had. Worst experience ever. I would give negative stars if that were an option. Our insurance company had confirmed our reservations a week prior. We called Hertz when we got to the auto body shop to jump start the rental process. 2 hours later we are sitting in the Hertz waiting room still waiting for a car. There are 3 other people sitting in the waiting room all waiting for a car. During the entire time, as we all take turns to inquire about our cars, we get the response "we're waiting for the cars to come in and we can't do anything if we don't have cars." How long does it take to pick up cars that are supposedly 1.3 miles away? Hertz may have a reputation for being the cheapest but what's the point of being the cheapest if don't have any cars available, are rude to their customers, and don't know the first thing about taking care of customers they will not have any more by visiting this location. read more

Well, they were off to a good start. The gentleman who picked me up was very professional and courteous. I walked in and waited for one of the agents to help me, the lady who helped me was OK... she tried to make conversation as she helped me but she forgot to explain a couple of things like how my card was gonna get charged a deposit which wasn't gonna be returned to me until 1 WEEK later instead of "48 hours" as she had explained when I signed for the car. The vehicle's condition was horrible. It easy to tell that it had been in a wreck and that that one of the employees used it for his personal use.. since the lady kindly asked me to wait as she went to look for the guy who had driven it home the night before. The interior of the car had cigarette butts on the floor, one of the seats was torn and it of course smelled like cigarettes. Next time i have to repair my vehicle and get a rental car i WILL definitely go with Enterprice. If you ever have a choice of choosing between Hertz and any other auto rental company, go for your other choice. Much better service and much better vehicles. read more

The customer service at this Hertz is terrible. I have been here twice to rent a car while my car is being serviced at Putnam Jeep. They never have a decent selection of cars available, and you cannot reserve a car in advance when are getting it through the service deal. Mind you, this is not a free rental. Today, they only had one car available at 8:15 a.m. - a Ford Focus. I have a toddler with a car seat and stroller, and I commute a long distance, so I don't want a tuna can (no offense to anyone who has a Ford Focus). I was told that if I didn't mind waiting 15-20 minutes, I could get a Subaru Outback that was just returned and waiting to be cleaned. An hour later, I was given a hosed-down Subaru. The Subaru is fine, good even, but it is not clean. The employees at this Hertz really seem to not care about customer service and making the customer happy. Perhaps they know we have our hands tied as far as car rental options when taking our car in for service, so they are not at all motivated to be friendly, courteous, or timely. I am not sure that I will take my car back to Putnam Jeep unless I have some other option for a loaner/rental car. read more
